Chapter 7- Unknown Soldier
Crossing the border into camp, Percy grimmaced at the signs of the recent battle. Although it had been nearly a month since Kronos' army invaded camp, their was still a great deal of destruction. It pained the son of Posiedon to see his home so destroyed.
"Percy!" A voice called from down the hill. The demigod looked up startled.
"Nico?" He called back, as Nico di Angelo ran up Half-Blood Hill to great his cousin.
"I thought you went to track down leads about your mom?" Percy asked, warily. Inwardly, he was praying Nico wasn't here for what he had asked Percy about on his birthday. He still wasn't sure that Nico's plan to beat Kronos was the best.
"I was." Nico replied. "But my dad contacted me, and told me I needed to be here, that Chiron needed to see us."
"Do you know why?" Annabeth asked.
Nico shook his head. "No. He told me to wait on you guys. And Thalia."
"Thalia?" Percy asked. "Why?"
The son of Hades just shrugged. "Great." Percy sighed. "Well, we better head to the Big House. Let's go."
It was a good hour from the time Percy and Annabeth arrived, before Thalia and the Hunters showed up.
"Thals!" Percy called to her as she walked up. Smirking slightly she head over to the porch of the Big House where they were waiting.
"Hey, guys." Thalia called walking up on the porch.
"About time you got here." Nico grummbled.
Without even turning to the disgruntled son of Hades, Thalia answered, "Shut it, Death Breath. So, Annabeth, Percy. Do either of you know why we got called here?"
Exchanging a look with Percy, Annabeth answered, "We were hoping you'd know."
Frowning, Thalia replied, "I don't. Lady Artemis knows something, but she's not talking. As a matter of fact she wouldn't even come to camp with us. It was almost like she was scared of something."
"What?" Percy yelp, startled. After all, what could possibly scare an Olympian?
"I don't know," Thalia answered, "When I asked Artemis about what was going on, she just ignored me."
"My dad did the same thing." Nico added.
"That can't be good." Percy sighed.
Just then the door to the Big House creaked open, and Chiron rolled out in his wheelchair.
"Chiron w-" Percy began, but was quickly cut off by Chiron speaking.
"All three of you are here, good. Annabeth, please go wait in your cabin. I need to speak with Thalia, Percy, and Nico in private"
Deciding that Chiron looked rather anxious, the daughter of Athena complied without an argument. Once Annabeth was out of sight, Chrion turned to the other three, "Come inside. We have a lot to discuss."
Walking into the rec room of the Big House, the children of the Big Three noticed two things. One was the distinct disappearance of the Camp's Director, Mr. D. The other was a very muscular man with a red tattoo that went over his eye and Annabeth's mom, Athena, sitting around the Ping-Pong table, talking.
Wheeling himself into his usual place at the head of the table, Chiron motioned for the others to sit, and began speaking. "Lady Athena, Lord Kratos. This is Percy Jackson, son of Posiedon, Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, and Nico di Angelo, the son of Hades. The demigod children of the Big Three."
"Daughter of Zeus?" Kratos asked. "So I have a little sister. Interesting."
"You're a son of Zeus?" Thalia questioned "How?"
"Yes." Athena interupted. "All will be explained shortly, sister. These are your new students, Kratos."
Before any of the demigods could question the goddess, Kratos burst out, "Them? You want me to train children?'
Responding before the offended demigods could speak up, Athena answered "Yes, Spartan. Although their age hides their skill. You won't be disappointed."
"If you say so." Kratos grunted.
"Excuse me," Thalia began, "but who is he?"
"He is the reason the gods have called all of you here." Chiron replied. "Lady Athena, if you would, please?"
"Of course, Chiron." Athena stood facing the young trio before continuing, "This is Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta, son of Zeus, and Former god of War."
"Wait, 'Former God'?" Percy asked, "How is that possible?"
Looking at the son of Poseidon with a hint of annoyance and distaste, the goddess of Wisdom answered, "It's not. At least It's not possible in this universe. In the universe Kratos is from however, He became the god of War after he killed Ares. He became mortal again after he was killed."
"Killed... Ares? How?" Nico asked in awe.
Sighing in annoyance at the constant interruptions, Athena continued, "This isn't working. Perhapse it would be better to show you."
With a snap of the goddess' fingers a bronze mirror appeared in the middle of the Ping- Pong ball table (A/N), and as the children of the Big Three watched, Kratos' story began to play out before them.
Hours later, Athena stopped the Memory Viewer, and with a wave of her hand causing it to vanish.
"I believe that will be sufficiant enough for you to understand what I was talking about." Athena continued, "I stopped it before he was betrayed by father, however. Once Kratos became the God of War, he led the Spartan Army to attack every city not controlled by Sparta. Because of this Zeus took action and tricked Kratos into putting all of his Godly Power into a single weapon, and after seperating it from him, turned on the Ghost of Sparta and killed him."
"However, Kratos once again fought his way from the Underworld, and set out on a quest for vengence against Zeus. The Titans that remained, such as Atlas, gave the the last of their power to Kratos to kill Zeus. He even went as far as to kill the Sisters of Fate, so that he could go back in time and steal back the weapon that contained his Godly Power."
"Right before Kratos could strike the killing blow, however, the alternate version of myself took the blade for Zeus, and he escaped. After that, Kratos went back and saved all of the Titans he could from destruction adn brought them back to wage war on Olympus. Unfortunatly, the Titans also turned on him, and Kratos simply slayed them all. Gods, Titans, even all of the Humans were killed off because of Kratos. Everything in Kratos' world was obliterated."
Finally be shook out of his state of horror and awe, Percy asked, "If everything in Kratos' world was destroyed, how did he survive? How is he here?"
"He tried to kill himself," Athena answered, "However, when he opened Pandora's Box, he gained the Power of Hope, and before he could die for the final time, it saved him. It transported him from his dying world, to ours, and it kept him from death."
"So, he's still immortal?" Thalia questioned.
"I don't know, sister." Athena replied.
"Wait," Nico interrupted, "Hold up. Time out. I got a question."
"What?" Athena asked indigenetly.
"If he did all of this in his world, why hasn't he done it here? In fact why hasn't lord Zeus tried to kill him yet?" Nico questioned.
"The Fates stopped father from doing anything too rash." Athena answered worriedly.
"No doubt Father would've loved to kill me," the Ghost of Sparta mused, "but it would appear that I have a higher purpose."
"Which is why all of you are here." Athena said. "Kratos has been comissioned by the the Fates to train you three for the continuation of the war with the Titans."
the entire room, with the exception of Kratos, Athena, and Chiron, was shocked into silence.
Percy, Nico, and Thalia walked out of the big house with purpose. Appearently, Athena wanted all three of them at Olympus within the hour. Since it had been proven a long time ago that their was a traitor at Camp Half-Blood, Athena decided that they should train in secret on Olympus. That way when they met Kronos again, he would be caught off guard by their strength. More or less, the Goddess of Wisdom wanted them to be a secret weapon.
Intending for the three of them to stay on Olympus for the training, Athena commanded them to say their good-byes and pack all of their necessities, before teleporting to Olympus with Kratos.
Naturally, Percy took off in the direction of the Poseidon cabin, while Thalia made her way towards the Artemis cabin, and Nico ran straight into the shadow of the Big House and disappeared.
(Percy POV)
My main thought about training on Olympus was that my mom was gonna kill me for missing school. Especially since she worked so hard to give me a normal life whenever she could. I didn't expect her to be mad at me, but I was really dreading the look in her eyes when I tell her that i'm going to be MIA until the war was over.
Walking inside my cabin, I gave it a quick once over, and started packing. I grabbed the shield Tyson made me off the wall, clicking it back into watch form, and grabbed a duffle bag out of my closet, and put a couple pairs of jeans and T-shirts in it before zipping it up.
Reaching over into the fountain by the dresser, grabbed a couple dozen golden drachmas and pocketed them, before grabbing another one and throwing it into the rainbow created by the fountain's mist.
Here goes nothing, I thought as I chanted, "O Iris Goddess of the Rainbow. Please accept my offering. Show me Sally Jackson, Upper east side, Manhattan."
(Thalia Pov)
I quickly left the other two and made my way to Artemis' cabin. I finally understood why my lady refused to come to camp. Our brother must have scared her away. As odd as it was to think of Lady Artemis being afraid of anything, especially a man, I knew it was true. Hell, even though he refered to me as a sister, he scared the Hades out of me. Not that I would ever admit to it.
Plus, I wanted to get away from Percy as quick as possible. Even though I had become a Hunter, I still harbored feelings for him. I always had, but I had noticed how Annabeth had looked at him. I didn't want to take away from Annie's happiness. Besides, I wasn't even supposed to be alive honestly. I was supposed to have died that day on Half-Blood Hill. However, it seems the fates had decided I deserved a second chance.
I wasn't about to argue with them.
"Thalia," A voice called from in front of me, "Is your meanting in the Big House finally over?"
Looking up I realized I was already in front of Artemis' cabin, where Pheobe had appearently been waiting for her.
"Yeah, Pheobe," I replied, "But looks like I'm not leaving with you guys. The gods gave me a job to do with the a couple of the campers. Looks like your in command for a while. At least until I get back."
Pheobe looked surprised before answering, "We're not leaving. Artemis was just here. Apearently, she wants us at camp for the rest of the war. To help back up the campers in case Kronos attacks."
"Good," I sighed, "I hated us not being able to help them in the last battle."
"I know." Pheobe answered, "Even though it means helping a bunch of boys, I still hate missing a battle."
I shook my head. She might be a Hunter, but Pheobe still acted a lot like a typical child of Ares. "Well, i'm just grabbing a few supplies, some clothes, then I got to leave with the others."
Pheobe just nodded before going inside with me to help me pack.
(Nico Pov)
The moment I shadow traveled in the shadow of the Big House, I reappeared just outside the camp I had set up in the woods of South Carolina. It only took a few moments to gather my things, and shadow travel back to Half-Blood Hill. I sat down on the grassy hill, and waited. I hoped that Percy, and Thalia didn't take to long. I wanted to get this show on the road. Maybe now I could finally catch up to Percy streangth-wise.
I hated being the little kid of the group.
Oddly enough Thalia was the first one to meet me on the hill.
"Hey," she called out, "Where's Percy?"
I frowned. "Really? No 'Hi Nico. How have you been? Good I hope.' Just where's Percy, hunh?"
Looking past her, I said, "Here he comes."
(Percy Pov)
"I told you, I would tell you what was going on if I could, but your mom gave pretty specific orders, Annabeth." I reasoned, "I can't. It's hush, hush. Top secret. Sorry."
Annabeth sighed, "Fine, but can you tell me why it's top secret?"
I hesitated. This was gonna sound bad, but I had to tell her why at least.
"Because, your mom doesn't want the spy to find out. It could ruin everything."
Annabeth's gaze turned so cold it could've frozen the sun. "I see. So, you don't trust me, hunh? My own mother doesn't trust me anymore? Whatever. I'll see you later, Percy." she said before turning around and taking off.
"No. Annabeth!" I shouted at her retreating back. "I didn't mean it like that! And Neither did your Mom!"
"Dammit," I said a little quieter. That was gonna cause a lot of problems. I couldn't worry about that right now though.
I turned towards Half-Blood Hill to find both Thalia and Nico already waiting for me. Right now I had to catch up with them and prepare for what was sure to be the training of my life. Taking one last deep breath, I ran up the hill towards the others. It was going to be along time before I seen camp again.
