Clarion was completely caught off guard by Tinkerbell's question, "Well it starts out with a sparrowman and a fairy, they have to fall in love, and- Do you really want to hear this tonight? I mean it is quite late after all."
Tink herself let out a yawn, "You're right, Queen Clarion."
"Another time then?"
"Sure..." Tink showed herself out of the Queen's chambers.
The moment the wooden door clicked shut Clarion flopped down onto her bed. She let out a relieved sigh, now was certainly not the time for answering any question about baby making given the current situation, and thus she could go the rest of the night not having anything to do with "the birds and the bees". Even if reproduction was one of her most important duties that she had know most of her life, it was still an awkward subject to discuss, especially with a fairy as young as Tinkerbell.
Clarion groaned in frustration, she had to agree with the ministers' proposal. It wasn't all bad considering she was being given the chance to choose who she was going to end up spending the rest of her life with, but the fact that everything was being so rushed did not put her at ease. Spring will be over in a few weeks and then comes Summer and by the end of the season she's supposed to be married and impregnated. The bachelors though, what if she didn't like any of them? They were her last hope! Well now's the time to start lowering standards.
There's probably dozens of minor qualifications she has flying around in her mind. For example, height, talent, etc. She'd have to narrow it down to at the most three. They'd have to be protective, so she feels safe around them. Then Clarion also needs someone understanding and sensitive so they can understand that she gets stressed a lot and that she needs to be comforted. Finally, she wants them to be intelligent, enough to at least help her with royal duties. Yeah, those are good, and they definitely don't make her seem shallow, but that's something that will be addressed tomorrow. Now was the time for sleep.
The next morning, Clarion awoke to a shining sun and blue skies. She could smell her favorite breakfast, banana nut muffins, coming from downstairs. Clarion changed out of her night gown and into one of her plain golden dresses. Her hair always took the longest to take care of since it was so long when not in the normal updo. She spent a while combing it out and then she took several pins and put it up. Lastly was her crown. After a few moments of looking in the mirror, Clarion had positioned it perfectly and it was now time to go and get some breakfast.
The Queen walked the corridors until she came to the dining hall. Not only did she and the ministers eat here, but most every other fairy in Pixie Hollow did as well. When she entered there were many tables piled with food. Clarion took a small plate and put a muffin on it. That was it because she was too nervous to eat anything else. The ministers were expecting an answer and she had to tell them her decision.
"Queen Clarion," Hyacinth greeted as she approached the table in the center of the room.
"Ministers." She sat down beside him and it was quiet for a moment as the five of them all silently ate, until Red spoke up.
"Queen Clarion, have you come to a conclusion about our proposal?" he wiped the corners of his mouth.
"Yes, I have." Clarion could feel a pit in her stomach begin to form. Oh she couldn't believe she was going to agree to this. "For the good of Pixie Hollow, I agree to your terms."
"That's, fantastic, your majesty! We'll start going through possible suitors this morning and we'll have you meet the most eligible ones this afternoon," Red stated.
"Very well."
The ministers got up to dispose of their plates, leaving Clarion alone to nibble on her muffin. Snow came back over for just a moment, "Don't worry your majesty, I'll make sure they pick suitors that are good for you, and not just for the kingdom."
"Thank you." Clarion let out a sigh as the minister left once more. She no longer had an appetite since she was more nervous than anything about what would come later that afternoon. So she got rid of her plate and went down to the library. There she'd be able to get some time to herself and some peace and quiet.
Once there the librarian greeted her and Clarion went to the back of the library. There was seclusion and comfortable seats at that section of the library. She also had a little hiding place for the book she had been trying to read, Two Fairies of a Heart. Clarion pulled the book out of its hiding place and began to read.
The story was about two fairies falling in love, but they had to keep their love a secret because the fairies were from two different worlds. One was a light fairy from Pixie Hollow and the other was a star fairy destined one day to become a star. They had met one day when the light fairy had flown too high and ended up falling. The star fairy caught her and as they looked into each others eyes. He fell in love with her at first sight. So one night the sparrow man went to visit her because star fairies sleep during the day, but the only problem was she was asleep.
The next morning he went to see her again. He was really tired and when they saw each other he passed out. Everyone found out about their love when he was taken to the infirmary. They were forbidden from seeing each other again.
Clarion shut the book and wiped the tears from her eyes. It was now close to lunch time. She hadn't realized she had been sitting there for so long. Luckily, part of the ministers' deal was to take care of her duties for her.
Since she had little for breakfast that morning her stomach was grumbling. Obviously her appetite had come back. Clarion put the book on the shelf she had found it on for ever ago and made her way back to the dining hall. She may be hungry, but that didn't make her forget that she was about to meet her possible husband .
