A/N: Thank you all for going on this journey with me. This story has been a fun ride, and I'm sad it's ending. I hope you enjoy!
Harry wrapped the ridiculous contraption that was basically just a long piece of fabric around his torso and grumbled in frustration as he tried to get Selene secured to his chest for the day. Selene was loving it as she seemed to think it was some sort-of game to get her adjusted. Severus was no help as he just watched with a smirk on his face. "It needs to wrap under her as well," he commented, getting a glare from his partner who did awkwardly shift a coil of the fabric under the baby.
"There has to be a better way to do this," Harry sighed once Selene was secure in the sling. "I think she might need a diaper change," he groaned since now she was securely not going anywhere. The baby's face was definitely turning a bit pink as she seemed to be working on needing that diaper change soon.
Severus shook his head and walked over to kiss Harry's frustration away. "There's only a month left in the term. You can self-study if making it to class is too difficult. I would wager you can already pass several of your NEWTs if you needed to take them tomorrow."
Harry huffed but he wasn't willing to give up just yet. "We have to at least attempt today. They'll be releasing the court's decision later today, and I want to know as soon as the papers come out. Selene is already all over the Prophet after us showing up at the Wizengamot session yesterday. Plus, I don't want you to have to field all the baby questions without me, and besides…you're definitely taking her for Potions class at least anyway," he gave his partner an unrepentant smirk.
"We can't have Selene breathing in fumes from my cauldron, regardless of if she's immortal or not. Fawkes says we have to make sure her first burning day isn't until she's at least older than us. Mine was too early for a normal phoenix, and you were turned young for a vampire."
Snape frowned down at the wrap contraption. "I'll have to figure out how to work this thing then," he pulled the now smelly and fussy baby out of the sling, having to disentangle her talons that she still seemed to not know what to do with from Harry's shirt. "All right, you change the drool monster, and I'll try to figure out the wrap-thing so I can carry her later."
"Fine…next poopy diaper is yours though," Harry gave him a playful glare before making faces at the baby to get her to calm down enough for him to change her diaper.
Harry and Severus stood outside the Great Hall where most of the school was already eating breakfast after their morning of horrific smells and difficult baby apparatuses. "Are you ready for this?" Severus asked Harry who was standing tall with Selene strapped to his chest and already napping after her morning bottle.
"You think it'll be better or worse than you walking in as a nineteen-year-old?" Harry asked, really wanting to know his assessment.
"The students are afraid of me," he replied with a smile that definitely said he liked that dynamic. "You have a cute baby strapped to your chest…I think you're going to be mobbed."
"It's not too late for you to carry Selene in," Harry turned hopeful eyes up to the man.
"I'm not waking up the baby!" He gave a mock gasp and chuckle at his partner. "I'm still trying to determine if sleep deprivation can actually kill a vampire or not."
"Wimp," Harry snorted but took in a deep breath and readied himself for the chaos. "Right…so Ron, Draco, and 'Mione are sitting at the Slytherin table today…the bunch least likely to lose their minds over a baby, so I just have to get over there to them."
Severus looked around the doorway to see the hall surreptitiously. "Lovegood is with them…I think you're out of luck. She has a pink balloon and what looks like a plushy toy waiting for you."
Harry rolled his eyes and grumbled, but he loved Luna and knew Selene (honestly her namesake) was going to love her too. Plus, she was probably the most reliable of his available future babysitters, especially if she brought Neville along. "Right…well, you deal with the faculty, and we'll call it all even."
"No killing or maiming any of the students," Severus kissed him quickly on the lips before giving him a little supportive shove into the hall.
The student body went completely silent as they both walked in. Severus gave the entire school a collective glare before very visibly kissing Selene on the top of her head and then striding off towards the head table. "Papa is going to give so many detentions today," Harry whispered down to Selene before he hurried towards where his friends were saving him a seat beside the visibly vibrating Luna Lovegood.
The silent hall exploded in sound, almost waking the baby who just grumbled and snuggled into Harry's chest further. Several students stood as if to come over to him, but the Slytherin table was collectively looking as off putting as possible at them when Harry joined them. "Hey guys," he breathed in relief while Luna just melted at the sight of the baby.
"So, Potter…" Blaise began as everyone around them turned to look at the shock of red hair sticking up out of the sling around Harry. "Nine months ago was right before the term started…who were you shagging before Snape? It wasn't the youngest Weasley was it? That red hair is a bit concerning."
"Hey," Ron frowned at Zabini. As Draco's friend and his fiancé, they were making an effort to start getting along out of necessity, but still… "I do take offense to that!"
"Ginny and I broke up well before then, and we definitely weren't shagging," Harry winced at the speculations that were going to be heading their way. It didn't help that he was probably the only male wizard in existence to have had a child…well, he wasn't really human, but still…
"Harry's mum had red hair," Neville entered the conversation to remind them all. "Was it maybe a muggle? You were keeping to yourself a bit then, mate. We met up for dinner once though and you didn't mention anyone."
"Look…I really don't want to get into this," Harry sighed, really, really not wanting to talk about the whole pregnancy thing. "The important bits of information is that I'm not human…"
"Old news, Potter," Pansy Parkinson rolled her eyes and drawled beside the sulky-looking Nott. "What you are is still up for debate though."
"You don't like me," Harry sneered at her for trying to get in this conversation, even though half the school was trying to listen in.
Pansy shrugged. "I still hate you, but you're clearly a dark creature, so less of the perfect Light hero we were sold on. That's a tick in your favor in my book…plus, the kid is cute."
"Right…well," Harry didn't know how to respond to that. "Anyway…I'm part-phoenix actually…" Harry trailed off and turned a bit pink, not really wanting to tell the whole school the next bit.
"Really?...Which means…?" Daphne Greengrass asked impatiently, wanting to get to the good gossip, even though part-phoenix was definitely more than they had all guessed moments before.
"Phoenixes reproduce asexually," Hermione tried to save him from having to explain, but they were still getting questioning looks from the table.
"Harry laid a bloody big egg and has been carrying it around in that leather bag all year," Ron rolled his eyes and just bluntly told everyone. "My godbaby hatched a few days ago. Now…someone please pass the bacon," he held his hand out like he hadn't just shocked the entire school as the gossip was passed along the tables. The entire Slytherin table was just staring, open mouthed at Harry and the baby while Ron loaded the new father's plate down with food so he wouldn't have to reach over the baby for things.
"I want it noted that while I may have feathers, veela do not lay eggs," Draco informed his friends, getting a laugh from Blaise at the hilarity of the Malfoy heir laying an egg and breaking everyone out of their stunned stupor.
"It wasn't fun, mate," Harry smiled at him and joked, trying to make light of it all. "Selene is worth it though."
"Her name is Selene?!" Luna's head shot up from where she had been making quiet cooing noises at the sleeping baby. "Oh, Harry! You ever need a babysitter, I'm in! Nev too! We'll go looking for nargles, and I'll teach her all about the crumple-horned snorkack…" Neville shared a look with Harry over her head knowing there was no getting out of weekly dinners until the end of time now.
Up at the head table, Severus was similarly walking into the questioning looks of his co-workers. He gave a little sigh when he saw his normal thermos of blood sitting by his plate from Kreacher. He was definitely going to need it. "Good morning," he drawled to the group that was uncomfortably staring him down.
"Severus Snape," Headmistress McGonagall pinned him with a look. "Which of my students did Adam Morris come by to help deliver a baby, and why wasn't I told?!"
"Really, Severus…we should have been informed of a pregnant student for their own safety in class…" Sprout began as she was quickly running through all the dangerous plants she had exposed students to in the last year.
"Healer Morris did not deliver a baby," he sighed and sipped from the thermos tiredly. Newborn babies, even ones that were more like a month old in their development, were so very, very tiring, especially at 3 in the morning.
"Clearly your partner hasn't been quite faithful…" Laimar started, but ended up stopping mid-sentence at the glares from Snape, Flitwick, and Percy sent her way.
"Harry is part-phoenix," Snape rolled his eyes and pulled the porridge over closer to himself. "Phoenixes reproduce asexually. Did any of you even wonder what he was carrying around in that bag all year when he'd get hostile if anyone got near it? It was Selene's egg. She hatched just a few days ago."
"How is that possible…?" Sprout's eyes widened in shock.
"And…I would ask that you refrain from speculating about mine and Harry's relationship. What happens between us is none of your business," he informed them firmly.
McGonagall's eyes were latched onto the teen and the child sitting at the Slytherin table. "Merlin…" she breathed out in awe.
"I'm going to go meet the tyke!" Hagrid stood up with a huge, excited smile on his face. He was stopped as Percy held onto the back of his shirt and wouldn't let go.
"She's asleep, Hagrid…maybe wait a bit. Your voice does carry," Percy informed the half-giant with a chuckle.
"Oh, right, yeah…" Hagrid sheepishly sat back down and said in a slightly quieter tone. "It's just so excitin' though!"
"And her name is Selene?" McGonagall asked the vampire sitting beside her.
Severus just turned a proud smile over to where they were sitting. "Selene Soleil Potter…my partner is a marshmallow that always wants her to know she's his sun and moon, or something ridiculous like that."
McGonagall scoffed and turned teasing eyes on the man. "I've only known of her existence since the picture in the Prophet yesterday, and even by your face in the picture, I already know she's your sun and moon as well."
Snape took a sip and shrugged. "I at least have the good sense to not say it out loud."
Flitwick broke down laughing. "Oh, Severus…kiss that stoic reputation goodbye! You're as much of a marshmallow as Harry!"
After a very long day of uncomfortable questions about his reproductive system from everyone and their mum that Harry didn't even know the answer to, he finally made it to his last class…Potions. "I love you so much, my back hurts, and she needs a diaper change," Harry passed a very awake and fussy Selene to her Papa as soon as he walked in.
Severus gleefully took the soggy baby, realizing that Filius was probably right in his assessment that morning and went to his desk with the diaper bag to change her. He saw Harry tiredly sink into the seat beside Hermione who mercifully began to give him a shoulder massage. Severus immediately resolved to take Selene during all his free periods from Harry so that he could rest some or he wasn't going to make it until graduation at this rate.
"Were you good for your daddy today?" He booped the baby on the nose, getting a laugh as he fastened the dry diaper around her. Selene grabbed onto the end of his ponytail and wouldn't let it go in her surprisingly strong grip. Her hazel eyes sparkled as she giggled at him.
With a chuckle, Severus just shifted his ponytail over and picked up the baby so she could play with it (really put it in her mouth) while he carried her around. The class was staring at him with open mouths when he stood up and turned back around to them. Even Harry was looking at him with a little smirk on his face.
Severus huffed and gave them an uncaring eye roll. "The instructions are on the board. Get started, and I'll explain the theory behind the potion once you get it going. If anyone even gets close to exploding your cauldron, then I promise you that you've now volunteered to be my personal blood donor until the end of term."
The Daily Prophet was set to have a special evening edition with the decision from the Wizengamot on the proposed new laws. Everyone was on-edge, especially those of creature heritage in the castle. Even Laimar looked a little concerned and most people hadn't figured out she was veela yet.
"What are we going to do, Harry, if they vote it in?" Hagrid asked the teen beside him. He was taking up a huge portion of the bench he was sitting on at the Ravenclaw table where he had sat down beside Harry and was currently holding a very happy Selene who was playing with his beard.
"I don't know, Hagrid," he sighed. "Fleur and Bill will move to France, so I was thinking we would go with them since Selene and their baby will be close in age. If Selene can't attend Hogwarts, and I can't get a job with any wixen, then there is no sense in us staying."
"You're still up for that lordship though," Ron reminded him from where he had his arm around an equally anxious Draco.
"One he can't vote with though," Hermione sighed. "I'm up for one too, but I don't think I want to stay either if you're both leaving."
"I'm leaving?" Ron frowned at her assumption. "I mean…yeah, I don't want to stay, but I haven't thought about it…"
"I'm a veela," Draco raised a disbelieving eyebrow at him. "I can't work here, and we could never adopt any kids either if we stayed."
"Oh, yeah," Ron nodded firmly. "Of course, yes, let's go…France you say? Merlin, I don't know French!"
"Olympe is in France," Hagrid nodded in decision. "I'm going too."
"Maybe we all hold off on the French invasion for just a bit," Andromeda Tonks startled them all from where she'd walked up behind Harry.
"Andy! When did you get here?" Harry gave her a nervous smile and scooted a little closer to Hagrid for her to sit down with them.
"I flooed right through to Minerva's office from the Daily Prophet's office," she held up a copy of the Prophet in her hand with a smile. "I bullied them into giving me an advance copy."
Draco reached out and grabbed it from her. "You're brilliant, Aunt Andy!" He flipped open the paper to where the court's decision was discussed.
"What's it say? Do I have to learn French?" Ron asked impatiently.
Tonks and Severus had hurried over with Percy and Filius following behind them as soon as they saw Andromeda sit down at the Ravenclaw table. "Do we still have jobs?" Tonks asked equally impatiently.
"I'm getting there…it's a bit buried…" Draco ran a finger down the page. "It wasn't the only law up for vote…Potter, Granger, and the Weasley family were all approved for lordships."
"Like that means anything if we have to move anyway," Harry grumbled and took Selene's little pudgy hand in his, feeling Severus put a hand on his back in support.
"More funding for Hogwarts…"
"This is ridiculous…" Tonks huffed at her cousin.
"Here it is!" Draco sat up a little more and frowned in concentration while he read. "They tallied the ballots from the Wizengamot vote…it was overturned!" He looked up with bright eyes. "It was almost unanimous!"
"Oh, thank Merlin!" Andromeda breathed out and took Teddy from where Percy had been holding him.
"The reporter says Aunt Andy was amazing, that Shacklebolt has proposed new legislation for even more creature rights, and that no one will admit to being one of the few people who voted to pass it," Draco finished with a relieved laugh.
"Did you hear that Miss Selene," Harry kissed his baby's cheek and smiled at her. "You're going to get to go to Hogwarts in about eleven years!"
Filius chuckled and leaned over to Severus. "I might need to retire before then with a Snape-Potter baby coming to school. She'll be both dangerously charismatic and devious!"
"Just Potter," Snape smiled back at him, agreeing. "I'm changing my name when we get married."
"Besides…you can't just leave me here alone with Tonks," Percy threw an arm around his small roommate's shoulders. "I'll never lose a game of wizard's chess again."
"Well, we can't have that then!" Flitwick laughed. "I can't leave you to deal with Teddy, Selene, a Delacour-Weasley, and whoever the new Malfoys eventually adopt all descending on Hogwarts at the same time."
"Hey!" Draco frowned. "Who says we're adopting anytime soon?!"
"Well…you are getting married first," Hermione reminded them with a snicker.
"Merlin…we do have a wedding coming up!" Ron turned pale as it sank in once more that they were actually getting married. "Did I even get robes?! Do we have a cake?!"
"I got you robes, dear, and there will be cake," Draco rolled his eyes and huffed. "Like I was going to let you pick out what we wore to the wedding!"
Epilogue:
Graduation was anti-climatic since none of the eighth years were actually, technically graduating. They still had a little ceremony, but mainly they took their NEWTs and set off for whatever new adventure awaited them. Harry and Selene did make it their last month of classes with so very much help from everyone around them. Selene was held by so many people that last month, she pouted whenever she had to stay in her playpen alone since she was used to always being with someone.
Draco and Ron's wedding was a spectacle. Narcissa was finally out of house arrest, but she'd been cooped up so long with nothing to do besides plan the wedding, that it really was the most glamorous, beautiful, elegant, and well-attended event of the year. Most of Ron and Draco's classmates attended, even Pansy who had finally come to their side. Nott was still decidedly not invited nor wanting to attend. Many of the Hogwarts faculty showed (minus Vector and Laimar whose contracts hadn't been renewed for the next year). The Minister of Magic was there…flirting with Narcissa Malfoy to everyone's surprise. And Viktor Krum even made an appearance, walking in behind Fleur and Bill and carrying newborn baby Victoire.
Draco did an excellent job in picking out their robes and he looked resplendent from where Narcissa stood with him as his parent and Filius Flitwick stood with Ron. Ginny did make up with all her brothers, especially Percy, and they eventually put everything behind them. However, Molly and Arthur were never seen by their children the same way again. They agreed at the last minute to attend the wedding, but they sat in the back and were basically avoided by most of the guests.
Harry and Severus attended the wedding as their first event out without Selene who Luna had stayed with to babysit. They were anxious the entire night, even if they had a blast dancing and seeing their family. No one was surprised when they snuck out a little early to hurry back home and check on the baby.
Ron was exactly correct in his prediction that Harry and Snape would eventually just tell everyone they eloped instead of having a wedding. Honestly, they just both showed up with new rings one night for family dinner and announced that Severus was no longer a Snape. Kreacher popped into Malfoy manor behind them and plopped a large cake on the table which Selene happily got all over herself not long after.
As for jobs, Ron got accepted into an apprenticeship with the manufacturer of the Nimbus brooms where he always gleefully had access to the newest and fastest brooms for himself and his husband. Draco grumbled the entire time but took up the Wizengamot seat and lordship. He was exceptionally good at politics even if he complained about it and even without any veela magic.
Hermione joined Andromeda Tonks in starting a law firm that specialized in creature rights and cases. It got to where any lawyer they were against were terrified when they heard Granger and Tonks were their opposing counsel. Even the ICW reached out to their firm on occasion to represent international cases.
Severus got his apothecary. He loved his little shop just off of Diagon Alley that had the highest quality ingredients and made to order potions. More importantly, he loved that he could now experiment to his heart's content. This was helped by all the creature ingredients from everyone that seemed to flock to Harry as well as his continued friendship with Hagrid.
Harry had a hard road ahead of him. This was because he ended up having to make amends to the entire goblin nation to be able to get an assistantship in warding with the bank. Flitwick and Bill both helped immensely, but they were really upset about their dragon for a long time. They did eventually hire him on, and he loved the work and the regular hours to be able to get back home to Selene every evening.
Selene grew up as a normal little girl with the added creature characteristics of her father. Teething was a very high stress time in her family as it took a while for her to realize that she could absolutely not bite people. Harry did end up with several fang marks from where she'd chewed on him, but thankfully he was immune to her venom. She was a very sweet child though that got along with all her cousins, especially Teddy who viewed her as more of a sister.
It took a few years, but life did settle down for everyone as they found jobs, significant others, places to live, hobbies, and interests. Neville and Luna got married; Percy and Tonks both stayed on at Hogwarts; Flitwick did eventually retire but he ended up moving to just down the road from Harry and Severus; and Lucius Malfoy did eventually die in prison…leaving Narcissa to almost immediately marry Kingsley Shacklebolt to everyone's surprise but also everyone's support.
It was Selene's fifth birthday when Harry and Severus hosted a party at Grimmauld Place for everyone to attend and celebrate. Harry tiredly sank down at the kitchen table while Kreacher put the finishing touches on the cake. "Merlin, this party has been a production," he sighed out but with a large smile out the window where he could see the kids playing in the backyard.
"Here you are," Severus stuck his head into the kitchen before coming in and sitting down as well. "I was wondering where you were hiding."
"You's allowed to hide in here for ten minutes, but then you have to get everyone together for lunch," Kreacher warned them, but he also gave them an indulgent smile.
"Fawkes is handling things out there," Harry motioned absently towards the window.
Snape snorted and shook his head, wrapping his arms around Harry to rest for a minute. "He's flying around with Saanp wrapped around him, playing tag with the children. I don't think that's exactly handling things."
"Hey…did you notice, Percy showed up with Tonks," Harry waggled his eyebrows at his partner.
Severus rolled his eyes. "I know you're trying to set those two up, but they both came here from Hogwarts. It's not unusual they came together."
Kreacher put another candle in the cake and raised an eyebrow. "Kreacher thinks snogging in the entryway is a little less usual…"
"Yes! Pay up!" Harry grinned at his partner and held out a hand. "I win!"
"Hermione has been a bad influence on you over the years," Severus laughed and passed a galleon over…the same one they really just passed around their family back and forth in their bets.
Harry plopped it in his pocket before leaning into Severus's side more with a sigh. "Merlin, I'm just so tired. I haven't been sleeping very well. I think I might be coming down with something."
"Should Kreacher get Healer Morris?" The elf asked with a frown. "He's in the backyard."
"He might have a point," Severus kissed Harry's forehead and felt for a fever. "Your stomach has been giving you some problems as well. You might be coming down with a wizard's flu. We wouldn't want Selene to catch it from you."
"I don't think I have a fever," Harry frowned and thought over the past several days. "I'm just really tired even when I've slept a lot, and my stomach has been upset occasionally. It doesn't seem that serious though…what's wrong with your face?" He asked with a raised eyebrow as Kreacher's mouth had twisted into the largest grin he'd ever seen.
Kreacher clapped his hands together and happily danced around the kitchen almost crowing. "What's up, Kreacher? I don't get it," Harry looked to Severus who just shrugged, not knowing what the elf was so excited about either.
"I's go get Healer Morris!" Kreacher ran out of the room ignoring both men in his rush to grab the healer from where he was chatting with Andromeda over by the punch bowl.
"Why would Kreacher be happy you're sick?" Severus just looked at the door the elf had run through in confusion. "That elf loves you as much as I do I'm sure…"
"Maybe more," Harry snorted but really thought about it. "Wait…" His frown deepened and he sat up and away from Severus.
"What?" The vampire looked at him in concern. Harry's eyes grew bigger and bigger before he put both hands on his stomach.
"Are you going to throw up?" Severus asked, taking out his wand to conjure a bucket quickly.
"Merlin! I'm coming, Kreacher!" Adam Morris grumbled as the elf almost shoved him into the kitchen. "What's wrong? You both look fine to me," he exasperatedly looked at the two men sitting at the table.
"Nope!" Harry shook his head firmly. "No, not acceptable!" He staunchly protested. "We're not doing this again!"
"Yes!" Kreacher clapped his hands and jumped up and down.
"I'm lost. Do you know what's going on?" Severus asked the healer in frustration.
Harry groaned and hit his head on the table with a couple thumps. "Kreacher…we're going to need pickles, and ice cream, and those Tesco biscuits we like, and I demand foot rubs every night."
"Oh my…" the healer's eyes widened, and he pulled out his wand. "Are we expecting another Little Bit?"
"What?" Severus almost completely stopped breathing.
"You're picking the name this time. That was bloody difficult before," Harry just waved a hand at his partner and stood with a grunt. "Go ahead…throw some spells at me. Kreacher…you still have that bag somewhere? I think we're going to need it soon."
"We're having a baby?" Severus's eyes widened in surprise, and he looked up at Healer Morris who just smiled at the results of his diagnostic.
"We're having an egg," Harry nodded firmly. "Foot rubs…Every. Night."
"Until the end of time!" Severus stood and kissed him firmly in agreement with a laugh and smile.
The End
