Chapter 13
Seto Kaiba was sat across from Kisara in his office, a frown set on his face. It was the day after his birthday and although he had enjoyed his day immensely, this conversation was worrying him.
She stared blankly at him, thinking of Marik and his decision to sacrifice more of his life force so that she would have more time to get the rod for him. Kaiba sighed and shook his head.
"Kisara, you need to go back to wherever you came from..." He was gentle in his approach to the subject, knowing how emotional she would be. Her indigo eyes glistened and she shook her head defiantly.
"I cannot. Not without that which I came here for..." She frowned at his pained expression. "Why can you not just give me the rod?"
"It's a replica! Kisara, it doesn't work!" Kaiba barked rudely. Kisara gasped and looked away for a moment, before looking back at his stern face.
"If it yields no power, then why does your acquaintance have knowledge of the past?" Kaiba sighed again and pinched the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb.
"She knows because I told her, alright?"
"No, not your past. Her past..." Kisara's statement echoed throughout the room, as Kaiba mulled over everything that had happened over the past few weeks.
"Look, I don't know, okay? But just go back to Egypt, or the afterlife, or wherever you came from. You're not supposed to be here!" Kaiba stood and stared sternly over her.
"I. Need. That. Replica." Kisara stood and attempted to match his gaze. Their stare was interrupted when Kia walked into the room and stood awkwardly near the door.
"Am I interrupting something?" Her icy question cut the eye contact between Kaiba and Kisara, and Kaiba's eyes lit up when he saw his fiancée.
"No Kia, Kisara was about to leave..." Kaiba smirked at Kia and hoped that Kisara would get the message. Instead, she turned around to Kia and narrowed her eyes. Leaning closely toward her, she whispered something into her ear and then proceeded to walk out of the office.
"What did she say?" Kaiba asked immediately after she left. Kia looked blankly at the floor for a moment, before looking up at him and shaking her head.
"Nothing..."
"It's not nothing Kia, you're obviously upset by it..." Kaiba made his way to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Tell me..."
"No Seto... I need to go, Mai and Serenity said they might visit today..." Kia unwrapped Kaiba's arms and walked out of the office, giving Kaiba the cold shoulder as she did.
"Seto Kaiba, I have some dark news for you..." Ishizu Ishar entered his office no more than thirty minutes after Kia left and stood delicately beside the chairs in front of his desk. Kaiba stared at her, knowing that this somehow had something to with Kia and Kisara.
"Yes?" He waited, almost unwilling to sit and listen to what he called 'Mumbo Jumbo'.
"I unearthed more information about Kia's past life..." Ishizu stopped and took a breath. "She is in grave danger Mr Kaiba."
"How?" He scowled at her. This annoying Egyptian was hesitating telling her wh she meant and this infuried him.
"I heard that she is carrying your child... In all the information I found of her past life, she... Doesn't survive the birth of her child." Ishizu looked down at her feet and waited for Kaiba's reaction.
"She'll be fine."
"Mr Kaiba, now is hardly the time to deny what is front of you!" She took a step toward the desk and rested her hands on his desk. "You must protect Kia!"
"Don't tell me what I must or must not do! I am protecting Kia! I just dealt with Kisara a while ago and told her to go back to wherever she came from!" Kaiba stood and leaned across the desk. Ishizu gasped and stood back, her eyes widening.
"Kisara... Was here?" When Kaiba nodded, she shook her head and began pacing back and forth. "Oh no Kaiba... Did she say how she's here?" He watched her as she contemplated what he had said.
"She mentioned Marik Ishtar several times..." His uncomfortable reply unnerved her and she shivered, not wanting to think of her younger brother being involved with such a dangerous predicament.
"Kaiba, I believe your family is in danger," was her gentle reply, "Marik disappeared to Egypt some months ago and although I had taken no notice of the missing artifacts from the museum, this makes perfect sense now." Kaiba raised an eyebrow and sighed with frustration.
"What? Stop talking in circles and just tell me what you mean." His cold glare was enough to unnerve the already nervous woman and she sighed, shaking her head.
"Artifacts that were discovered in the tombs of resurrected spirits were reported missing some few hours after I realised Marik was missing. I assumed the it was a mere coincidence, but now I believe that he took those artifacts and brought Kisara back from the afterlife to do his bidding." Ishizu's response surprised Kaiba and he stared at her with disbelief.
"So what has this to do with myself and Kia?" He finally blurted out. Ishizu pursed her lips and pondered for a moment.
"In your past life, Kisara was your lover. Jealousy perhaps?" The suggestion angered Kaiba and he stood quickly, causing his chair to travel backwards.
"She mentioned needing the Millennium Rod, so she can't be jealous." When Kaiba said this, Ishizu sucked in a quick breath.
"The Millennium Rod? But it was sealed away with the Pharaoh... Doesn't she know that? Unless..." She stopped her pacing and her eyes widened. Kaiba, tell me you didn't give her the replica!"
He studied her worried expression for a moment, before looking down at the floor in exasperation. "Of course not, it's mine. But it's a replica..."
"It may become a true millennium item, should Marik need it!" Ishizu spoke over him, temporarily angering him but he refrained from shouting. Instead, he faced her and frowned, confused. "Marik can perform an incantation using the artifacts of ressurection to recreate the millennium items!" Ishizu explained, causing Kaiba to stiffen.
"That makes more sense... The millennium items will allow them to stay in our time stream, that's why Kisara was desperate to get the replica from me..." He pursed his lips and thought of all his options.
"There are only two paths you could possibly take now, Kaiba." Ishizu brusd her fingers along the replica of the millennium necklace she wore around her neck and she winced, missing her ability to see the future. "One; destroy the replica, so to avoid any danger of this in the future. Or two; have the replica hidden and live with the constant danger of having it stolen."
"I already live like that, Ishtar." Kaiba frowned though, thinking of Kia and how her life would be altered, even more than it was already. And his thoughts automatically led to their baby.
Again, thank you!
