A/N: This chapter is the last for this story, with an epilogue to follow. Please note that in order to differentiate between modern day Seto Kaiba and the High Priest Seto, I have referred to the High Priest as Seto in this chapter. Read, review, enjoy :)
Chapter 14
Kia found herself lying in an alleyway between two sand-coloured buildings. Her head throbbed and she clutched at it, bemused as to where she was and why she was sore. Her clothes seemed to have once been a sign of wealth, but were now tattered and torn. She noticed a small burlap bag nearby, but decided to ignore it.
She stood and looked around, realising that this was what she was waiting for outside Ishizu's office. The rod had given her a vision of her past! She suddenly remembered Kisara and shivered, looking around herself and rubbing her arms.
The sky was dark and stars twinkled brightly, the moon a large beacon to provide enough light for her to see. She began walking toward the end of the alleyway and found that she was in a small town, with small sand coloured buildings adorning both sides of the road. She spun around, taking in the colours on the buildings and the objects for sale outside various smell of spices filled her nostrils and she sneezed, unused to such a pungent scent.
"Are you not Kazuko?" A surprised voice from behind her startled her and she turned around quickly. A young woman with caramel coloured skin stood there, her brown eyes wide with confusion. "Should you not be at the Pharaoh's home with the High Priest?" Kia cocked her head to the side and watched the woman with a weary gaze.
"I'm not sure... Where am I?" She looked around again. Although it was night, tanned civilians moved through the town, buying food and wares from shopkeepers. Kia suddenly remembered the small cloth bag that lay beside her when she woke, and wondered if it contained any money.
"Cairo..." The woman was uncertain whether or not she should talk to Kia. Her clothes were torn and tattered, and she didn't know where she was. Last she'd heard, she was carrying the High Priest's child and if she was out here at night with such little clothing, it seemed unlikely that she was thinking of her baby.
"Cairo... Egypt? Oh... The rod! I'm here! Where's the palace?" Kia was suddenly frantic and gripping the woman's shoulders with panic. She needed to find Seto and her darling child.
"I shall bring you! Please, release me!" The woman struggled under her grip and Kia let go with surprise. "This way..."
"Wait please! I need to check something, I'll be right back!" The woman nodded slowly as Kia ran back in the alley and found the small cloth bag. Opening it, she found an array of gold coins and jewels. She gasped and smiled broadly, now having a way to pay the woman who was kind enough to help her.
The woman led her to the gates of the large palace and waited, wanting to see Kia walk through the gates safely. Instead, she reached into the bag and pulled out two gold coins, holding them out to the woman.
"For helping me. Thank you so much!" The woman's eyes widened once again and she shook her head, scared of such a fortune.
"This is too much! I simply brought you to your home!" Kia smiled.
"Take it, please..." The woman reluctantly agreed and took the coins, marvelling their shine. Kia smirked again and all but ran through the gates. Before she could enter the palace, two stern looking men stopped her. They were wearing metal armor plates and held large spears in their hands.
"Kazuko? Wife of the High Priest?" One of them seemed to recognise her. "This way, the High Priest has been awaiting your return." Kia smiled as the one who recognised her led her down a long corridor and deep into the palace. They eventually came to the quarters that Kia remembered from her last vision and she blushed, looking at the pristine bed. "Wait here, I shall find the High Priest." Kia nodded as the guard left the quarters.
"I wonder where Mizuki is..." Kia thought aloud. She looked around the sandy room, marvelling at the golden furniture and running her fingers over the Egyptian sheets.
"Kazuko?" Kia turned around at the sound of Seto's voice and smiled a broad smile.
"Seto!" She ran toward him and hugged him, taking in his musky scent. She noted tat the High Priests smelled the same as Seto Kaiba did, even though there was no cologne in Ancient Egypt.
"Kazuko, darling, you disappeared at dawn. Where were you?" The High Priest held her at arm's length and gazed into her blue eyes. "Your eyes are different. Did something happen?"
"My eyes are different? What do you mean?" Kia frowned and blinked her eyes, wondering what he meant. Seto smirked and shook his head, running his thumbs over her eyelids.
"Never mind. Come, we shall eat." He took her by the hand and was about to leave the room, when he took note of her clothing. "Perhaps we should dress you in better attire... Our child will surely not survive should you leave in such little clothing." Kia smiled, bemused.
"Where is Mizuki?" Seto frowned in confusion.
"Who do you speak of? I know no-one by that name..." Kia gasped and looked around herself, taking in her surroundings. "Kazuko? Who is this Mizuki you speak of?" Seto held her shoulders and waited for her to answer him. She shook her head and suddenly felt nauseous.
"Seto... I need to find better clothes..." She smiled and he nodded, dropping his hands and leading her to the next room. A large golden chest sat in a corner of the small room and Kia wondered if that was her wardrobe here. The High Priest took a small brown dress from inside the chest and handed it to her, before kissing her lightly and leaving the room.
Kia looked at the dress in her hands for a few moments, then looked down at her stomach with nervousness. 'Am I pregnant here too?' She wondered, peeling the torn dress from herself and climbing into the new dress. She looked around for a mirror, and remembered that they didn't have mirrors in Ancient Egypt. She finally walked outside to find the High Priest waiting for her.
"Come. We shall eat with the Pharaoh." He took her by the hand and led her to a large room, with a long wooden table with a golden trim and allowed her to sit on a small bench. Kia stared as the Pharaoh, Atem, greeted her with warm eyes.
"Kazuko, the High Priest was concerned about your whereabouts. Thank the Gods for your return! And now, we feast!" His deep voice startled Kia and she gasped, watching as slaves brought in platter after platter of food. Seto took his seat beside her and helped himself to various dishes, offering her food as he did so.
"Isis foresaw the birth of a girl, on the night of a full moon." Seto informed Kia with excitement. "A healthy girl. She was unable to determine when this will occur, but she senses it is soon." His hand rested gently on her stomach, and she felt her eyes brimming with tears.
"I'm pregnant?" She wanted to see Mizuki. Not have to wait for her... When she looked down at his hand on her stomach, she frowned with dismay. She couldn't be more than four months?
"Pregnant? What on earth is that?" Everyone around the table stood and crowded around her, touching her forehead and asking questions.
"My lady, are you ill?"
"What does that word mean?"
"Is it fatal?"
"Please, give her some space!" At the sound of Isis's voice, everyone moved away. Kia's head whipped around to face her and she almost laughed.
"Ishizu? You're here?" All eyes were on her. She suddenly remembered that this was only a memory from her ancient past and of course, no-one here knew modern day names or objects.
"I believe Kazuko has been through a traumatic experience today. She needs to calm herself and mind the child, we must all help her to do this." Touching her necklace, she closed her eyes and nodded. "All will be well."
When Kia went to bed with Seto that night, she expected to awaken in the Kaiba Mansion the following morning. Instead, she awoke next to the High Priest.
