Valka expected to be greeted by the smell of fish cooking by the fire, but never did she expect to wake up to the sight of the teens still sleeping. All but Astrid, Stormfly, Hiccup, Stoick, Thornado, and Toothless; they were no where in sight!
"Stoick?" Her head spun around the area but didn't see anyone but the teens and a path of smashed tree branches. Well at least she hoped those where tree branches, it's hard to see with all this fog.
"Valka! Oh finally your awake!" Astrid run out from the lath way with her dragon not far behind her while he cheers woke everyone else up. "You would not believe what those Haddocks are up to now!"
"Wait Stoick? What?"
"He was up all night clearly the path way with Thornado to find the smokebreath nest and finally he found it with Hiccup's help too," Astrid explained, nidging the nightfury to get up. "Come on I'll show you but you're going to have to be very quiet with this." Instead of walking, Valka ran ahead of Astrid, following the pathway that led to an enormous opening of a cave!
There hiding from the smokebreath's eye sight was Stoick, Thornado, Hiccup and a half awake half asleep Toothless.
"Stoick?! Did you find it yet?"
"Shush! I don't have it yet," Stoick whispered, trying to get Valka to be quiet. "But I do know that those dragons have everything they took from the ship in that cave...Valka?! Wait, what are you doing!?"
Valka was racing ahead towards the opening as she whispered, "I'm going to get the ambulant...You try to keep those smothering smokebreath dragons distracted."
"No but we have to wait until they leave-" Valka already went inside the cave as Stoick mumbled to himself in annoyance. "Such a boar headed woman."
"Uh dad, I don't think she's going to listen," Hiccup answered to the comment, then whispered to Toothless. "She kinda reminds me of mom."
"You're right," Stoick sighed, then turned to both dragons and his son. "Looks like we're going to keep those smokebreaths distracted. Thornado, sonic boom! Hiccup, you know what to do."
"Way ahead of you," Hiccup winked. "Toothless, plasma blast!" Said dragon woke up from a quick nap, only to shoot his fireball which combined with the sonic boom, causing every smothering somkebreath dragon to look up from their metal nests, their atttention mainly on Stoick and Hiccup. They were hissing and growling as Stoick turned to Hiccup for translation.
"They're telling us to come forward and meet their human leader," Hiccup translated, then gave the dragons a confusing look. The two got up to walk forward, or in Hiccup's case, he had to on top of Toothless since he didn't have his leg."How strange...I never thought that they had a human leader."
"That's because I've only been here for a few months and these dragons still jave two more days before I go home," a female voice interrupted, and out from one of the piles of metal was a girl the same age as Hiccup but with dark hair tied in a braid, her clothing was a darkish tunic and brown legging along with furry boots. She was a completely opposite image of Astrid warrior like clothing but like someone fit to be a non fighting viking. The girl approached the father and son while the rest of the teens came to the scene.
"My name is Heather, and in case your wondering I was on a research exploration until I helped these dragons out of a trap so they wanted to repay me by making me their leader for two months. Well until the end of my exploration days then I'm no longer thier leader." She then glared at the smokebreaths who kept hissing at the riders. "But sometimes they never listen so I don't really consider myself their leader."
"So they'll attack anyone who will take back what they took?" Astrid asked, eyeing on the small dragons.
"Yep," Heather nodded, then she inpected Hiccup and Stoick closely before she gasped in realization. "I don't believe it! You're Stoick the Vast, the man who went from a nightfury to a viking human! And you're Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third! The boy who can understand and talk to dragons!"
"Does everyone in the archapilego know them?" Snotlout sighed, as Heather nodded until she saw Toothless and one of the taller looking smokebreath dragons glaring daggers at each other, then roaring at each other. "So Hiccup, you wouldn't happen to know what your nightfury friend and this smokebreath are growling about?"
"Uh sure Heather," Hiccup then turned his attention to the two dragons until his eyes widen. "We gotta get out of the way, Toothless just made those dragons think that my dad is the enemy!" Soon those dragons began to toss a ton of metal at Stoick while everyone gave Hiccup a look to explain in details.
"Appreantly Toothless demanded the smothering smokebreath dragon to give back the bag with the ambulant but he also mentioned that dad can fight them off single handedly," He show that Toothless was roaring in encouragement. "And now he's telling them to through more metal." Soon Snotlout and twins were joining in the encouragement.
"Yeah keep throwing that stuff at him! Stoick can handle is metal!"
"Keep it coming scale brains!"
"Our chief can handle any piece of metal thrown at him!"
"Toothless, what do you expect from all this trouble!" Hiccup asked in annoynace, as said nightfury shrugged."Well I'm trying to get those thieves to throw every scarp of metal at us until they run out."
"Uh Toothless but this is a cave full of metal we're talking about!"
"Oh...This is going to take a while..."
"You think!"
Meanwhile Valka was running around the cave in search for her bag while the smothering smokebreath dragons were distracted throwing metal at Stoick. "What is that man thinking these days?" Her eyes wondered around the piles until her eyes landed on a shed of red, her bag!
"Found it at last!" She made a grab for it, pulling out her ambulant only to see a babgy smothering smokebreath with it's teeth chewing on the edged of the pendant! "Oh no.." She gently tried to pry the hatchling out but it was difficult, the baby was practically attached to that necklace!
"Okay time to get off now little one...Go on now shoo!" She finally got the baby out but the moment she hand the nevklace around her neck, she saw the hatcling ready to cry. She looked at him with pity until the baby cried very loudly, "MOMMA!"
In an instant, all small scavenging dragons were glaring sowrds straight at Valka, forgetting about Stoick, as she waved her tailfin casually but fearfully. "Uh hi?"
"Valka...RUN, O-OR FLY!" Stoick yelled in fright, but said dragon was too frightened to fly, she ran as fast as she could. Meanwhile before the smokebreaths took off, they threw two last things on Stoick's face: Toothless's metal rod, and Hiccup's leg!
"Oh, thanks," Hiccup smiled, retrieving his leg to reattach it, then reattached the rod for Toothless's tailfin. "Now we're ready!"
So they were off, going after the chasing smothering smokebreath while Heather rode with Astrid for two reasons. One, Astrid doesn't trust Snotlout or the twins, and Fishlegs will get slower and two, she wouldn't let Heather fly with Hiccup for the sake of her relationship with him.
Valka was running so fast that she didn't even have a second to breath while the dragons were hissing at her in anger.
"hey you upsetted my baby!"
"Give back what you stole from us lady!"
"You're in for it now!"
Stoick watched how Valka was running out of places to hide or run through, especially with the ocean getting into view. His mind was racing as he urged Thornado to fly faster until an idea finally popped up. "Valka go in the water!"
"Stoick I'm pretty sure that they'll still get me!"
"JUST DO IT!"
Without any other option, Valka raced into the ocean, swimming around while she held on to the necklace tight so she wouldn't lose it. The moment she did, she dived in since the whole pack of wild dragons swormed above her, and on cue, Stoick had Thornado do a sonic boom at them! Making every dragon fly to different far away directions!
"Okay Val, you can come out now!" Valka rose from the water, catching her breath while coming to shore as the rest of the teens caught up to see the smothering smokebreaths were gone.
"I see you handled those smokebreaths well," Heather smiled, then she pointed up tat the other side of the island. "I have a ship over at the other side of island, you guys seem you can use it, unless you're planning to ride your dragons to whereever your going."
"Thank you, we're exhausted," Astrid smiled in return (a fake kind).
"Why don't you join us?" Fishlegs suggested, making Astrid's guard spark up really fast.
"Of you don't mind."
"Of course not, you're welcomed to come," Snotlout nodded, Making Heather nod her head politely. "Thank you so much, I look forward to this. Follow me, I'll show you where this ship is." The teens followed her while Hiccup watched how Valka and Stoick were busy praising each other on how awesome they were.
"glad you lighten up a bit Val."
"what do you mean lighten up? I'm always fun."
"you weren't yesterday."
"now see here!"
Hiccup then decided to leave them to their business, walking away to follow the rest of the gang, if he didn't ask Toothless to lead the way then maybe they would have caught up. So the duo ended up taking a totally different way thanks to nightfury but with the fog, they were ready to fly off to catch up instead. If a strange, dark figure hadn't approached them, who was very familiar, making the two get into defense mode. The stranger was none other than Eret Son of Eret himself.
"Easy there dragon lover, I'm not here to fight you, yet," Eret held his hand up, circling the teen who stared back at him with a glare. "I see you dad and that dragon are getting along very nicely are they? Oh I hope they don't end up falling in love with each other."
"And what's wrong with that? My dad can choose whoever he can love!"Hiccup demanded, getting a little afraid of what Eret might be referring to.
"All I'm saying is twhen he starts falling for her, he'll forget all about you." Eret shrugged, his finger tracing the edge of his sword. "He won't have anytime for the two of you, and eventually he'll decide to turn back into a dragon. Leaving you alone, and orphaned."
"He'll never do that, he's my father!" Hiccup argued, not sure if he's trying to convince Eret or himself.
"You'll never know," Eret smiled, "Join me, you'll avoid troubles like this."
"I'll have to pass, I'll never join you," Hiccup snarled, his forest green eyes glaring at the dragon trapper. "No matter what you say, I won't join you."
"Alright fine then, but the offer will remain open incase your father betrays you and leaves you alone for a woman," Eret shrugged, walking away in the shadows from the two. "All I have to say to not trust that man if I were you."
Then he was gone, Hiccup quickly shook his head to try to forget about that encounter, focusing on his trust in his father. Afterall, this wasn't the first time Hiccup has encountered someone who'd tell him to not trust Stoick. However, Hiccup couldn't help but feel a bit scared, but just not enough...
