Subaru stood before his half-brother's decapitated body, he couldn't believe the sight before his eyes. The fact that Yui was capable of beheading Laito with the blunt end of a shovel spoke volumes about her strength, seeing that it is extremely difficult to sever someone's head with something so blunt. The fleeting thought of what she could do to him, made him regret his choice to let Shuu run off to the manor by himself. Subaru silently hoped that his brother could handle Yui for the meantime until he got there.
Subaru shoved his hands in his pockets, still surveying the body when he noticed Laito's arm was extended, angled towards something to the down right side of his body . His brow furrowed as his sharp, ruby eyes followed the direction of the down stretched arm. Subaru turned around and started walking in the direction of where the arm instructed him to go.
In less than 15 steps, he found himself standing in front an area where there was loosened earth. He kicked the dirt with the edge of his foot, the dark soil fleeing from him. He knelt down, removed his hands from his pockets, and reached out to feel the soil.
The dirt was fresh which meant...something was buried here not long ago.
Abruptly, Subaru fell to his knees and started clawing at the ground, flinging dirt in various directions in the process. After a minute, he huffed in frustration. His bare hands weren't fast enough to gouge out all the dirt. He quickly stood up and hurried over to retrieve the bloodied shovel before returning to the unmarked plot.
Subaru worked away before he heard the shovel hitting hollowed wood. He swiftly cleared away the soil, the word "Hurry" repeating in the back of his mind.
Mindlessly, he pried open the wooden box not caring about the small pieces of splintering wood lodging into his pale palm. The rusted hinges creaked before giving way allowing the cover of the box to fly off.
Subaru was truly unprepared for the sight before him. His stomach lurched as he viewed a soiled, disoriented Kanato lying in the makeshift casket. Subaru's throat convulsed as his gag reflex threatened to bring up the uncomfortable, searing pain of bile, he forcefully tore his gaze from the horrid sight before him. He attempted to suppress the rising panic that rapidly grew from deep in his chest but he was slowly failing to do so as images of his deceased mother attacked him. Subaru fell on his backside, the emotions bombarding him were overwhelming.
His chest rose and fell rapidly, he felt that he couldn't fill his lungs with enough air. Without warning, his stomach heaved as his nose finally picked up on the horrendous smell emitting from Kanato's body. Subaru slapped his bloodied hands over his nose and mouth, muffling the scream that attempted to escape from his mouth.
"I can't do this" he thought
In a flash, Subaru was snapped back to reality when he heard a breathy gasp, followed by a barely audible groan and slow shifting from within the box. He allowed himself to take a quick look towards the coffin just in time to see Kanato reaching out to him gasping his name, his foggy purple eyes pleading with him.
Subaru started, reflexively scuttled back to distance himself from the disfigured boy.
"Pl..ea...se...S-S...uuu...b-b-b...ahhh," Kanato managed to say before trailing off, it was obvious that the mere muttering of those words used up most of the remaining energy that he had left. Subaru mustered up whatever strength he had left, ignored the stench as best as he could, rose to his feet, and started hesitantly towards his half brother. He stepped around the plot, his gaze catching on various details from the scars peeking out from under the shredded fabric of his shorts, to the ribboned flesh around his wrist, the deep gashes in his arms, the acidic yellow stain splayed across the front of his torn, white oxford but among some of these details the disfigurement on his chest was the worst. His stomach churned as he stared at the raised, seeping skin around a cross shaped wound that was poorly sewn back together, words could not explain the monstrosity upon poor Kanato's chest.
Subaru's attention was redirected to Kanato's face, when the boy's body rocked as he burst into a fit of coughs.
"Bl...oo...d," Kanato grasped the air, trying to signal Subaru, who gulped, nodded, and dropped to his knees beside him. Without another thought, Subaru bit the inside of his forearm and lowered it to Kanato's dry, eager mouth. He winced from the feel of Kanato gnawing on his arm, greedily trying to lap up and swallow every drop of blood he could get. Subaru could hardly blame him though, Kanto had been without blood for at least three days, his injuries didn't heal properly for some reason especially this gruesome sight on his chest, and he was buried alive.
Subaru waited patiently until Kanato tired of drinking his blood. When he removed his arm from the smaller boy"s mouth, Kanato tested out his strength by gently propping himself up on his elbows in an attempt to rise from the coffin. Subaru watched his older brother wordlessly.
Miraculously, Kanato was strong enough to get out of the plot by himself but that didn't offer any relief to Subaru because Kanato's wounds weren't healing.
Hey it's been a while. I was hesitant on uploading this mini-chapter because it isn't finished. I wanted to move on to Shuu and Yui's confrontation in this chapter but I couldn't remember how I wanted the scene to go.
