Prologue
POV: ODST Gabe & ODST Mason
Three years before the events of Halo: Fireteam Tiger...
Wooshhhh! The ramp-door of the pelican opened. The four ODST troopers walked hastily out of the vehicle, exhausted from their recent mission. The two ODSTs in the front, Jonah Gabriel and Jacob Mason, were the two stars of the team. Jonah's excellent mind combined with the valor of Jacob made ODST Fireteam Stripe one of infamy to those covenant factions against the UNSC. The two had been childhood friends on their homeworld of Earth, and had been lucky enough to make it into the same team. Though Jacob was several ranks higher than Jonah, the two treated each-other as equals in battle and in leadership.
Unfortunately for them, their contact was to be cut; on the night of the next day, ODST Gabe and ODST Mason would become Spartan Gabe and Spartan Mason; volunteers for the Spartan-IV program, and they had already been assigned their fireteams. Nevertheless, Jonah and Jacob promised each other that they would reunite again; once again in the same fireteam.
POV: Spartan Kidd
One year prior to the events of Halo: Fireteam Tiger...
"Spartan Kidd? Are you ready?"
The scientist's words sounded warm, almost comforting; like she was actually concerned about my well-being. I knew it to be a lie, her voice merely covered up the harsh reality of the situation. What he was about to do would change him as a person. Nathan Kidd after this would not be the same Nathan Kidd as he is now. Even the thought of completely redesigning the personality that I spent my life forging scares me a bit inside.
Then again, I like change. This new me will be better; I won't make the mistakes I used to. But more importantly, if I do find another mistake to make, I won't feel anything about it. A clear head at last, internal peace. That is why I signed up, after all.
"I'm ready, but make it quick. I don't have all day."
POV: Spartan Pelo
Three months before the events of Halo: Fireteam Tiger...
"Round over, Red wins."
"Round over, Red wins."
"Round over, Red wins."
Pelo had gotten used to the sound of a War Games victory after hearing it repeated for so many months. Spartan Pelo was the Spartan equivalent of a jock; he was one of the strongest, fastest, and most enduring people ever to don Mjolnir armor—according to him, at least.
"Great job out there, Pelo."
"Nice double kill!"
"Thanks for saving my ass, man."
These words seemed to be repeated over and over by the rest of his fireteam; and Harrison Pelo was getting bored.
Spartan Pelo wanted a new challenge, and he wanted new people.
This was why he requested a new fireteam. He wanted a new adventure, and he wanted to tap into the pilot skills that got him into the Spartan-IV program in the first place.
Three months later, he was assigned to Fireteam Tiger, along with three other Spartan-IVs pulled from their own respective fireteams: Fireteam Leader Spartan Gabe, Designated Marksman Spartan Mason, and Heavy Weapons Expert Spartan Kidd.
Pelo should have never wished for more than he had.
