Hey! I know that Some of you are concerned about the time in between my updates but I am in my final part of my college years and am working part time as well. Please be patient I do write on these stories every chance I get.
On that note I was rereading some of my old stories to get some inspiration. I found the world series and forgot that in how in Clash and Collide when different animes came in and like then towards the end of Breaking Boundaries it looks like Payton dying and coming back was the release.
I have a poll on my profile asking if you would be interested if I continued it on. I have a plot I can follow but I wouldn't know if it would be interesting to all of you who have kept up with me. If you say yes, you can go look at that chapter then choose one of the animes or even choose another anime. However now I am open to even Video game suggestions.
This story is not part of that timeline. The Payton in this story is not the same as the one in the others. This is more of a made up thing.
Thank you!
Payton had never been one to get a hangover. She had woken up enough to say goodbye to her housemates...for whatever reason they were moving out. She didn't blame them, with all of this happening. Mari left to go live with her mother again. Payton was happy about this. A sweet girl like her should have never been given to this stress. Abel finally proposed to his girlfriend and he moved out to live with her to plan the wedding. This left her alone, but she knew if anyone could deal with this, she could. The only thing is that they had both brought it up a few days ago. With all of the trouble, she guessed she had just...forgotten. She was happy for them, honestly. She would just have to find new roommates to help her pay rent. She was sure both would be coming back in a few days to get the rest of their things, but the morning they had gotten some people to help move the majority of it.
The houseguests had come and gone, some tried to talk to her but...she just wasn't up to it. She would talk about what happened with her roomies but...they would have to find a way to leave the planeswalkers out of it. What happened did concern the planeswalkers to a small extent but she would try and fix it before she had to result to that. She sighed softly not really caring where they were at this point. She thinks Nissa had gone outside with some of the others, something about sparring helping them let off some steam. Tibalt had poked fun at her but...that was just not as fun when she just stared at him with a smile. Tezzeret hadn't been seen all morning...maybe he was a lightweight.
She turned on some random series on Netflix and fell in and out of sleep. She hadn't ate yet she didn't get up to change that. She would make dinner tonight. She was enjoying a lazy Saturday. After such a long week with everything that had happened, she needed to relax less she found herself driving away from the house for a week and just disappearing for that time. She couldn't do that, especially not right now. She opened a beer and sipped on it. She wasn't looking to get drunk, even though she knew full well she had nothing to do at all. However the noises that would come in from all over the house, inside and out, she was certain it wouldn't be a good idea...or maybe she just didn't care. Gideon was there after all and it looked as if even Tezzie was on her side. She had to hold down her giggling. She had slipped up last night with Mari and they kept calling him by his hated nickname. She thought he was going to slit their throats, but he just sat there giving them a 'pleasant' smile. She was sure that revenge would follow sooner or later.
Her eyes closed and she didn't know how long she had dozed off. She was woken when something sounded beside her and she heard heavy breathing. She rubbed at her eyes and sat up, thinking that maybe one of the guests from outside had come in from sparring. Brown eyes met blue...a lot of blue...She shot up and slowly backed away, keeping as quiet as she could. Jace was knelt over on his knee, gripping at his head. He opened his eyes after a minute and he looked angry...very angry. She had barely made it to the edge of the living room when he finally turned and met her eyes. Putting up her hands she began to talk...or at least tried to.
Jace stood up abruptly and moved towards her with surprising speed. She barely had time to try and turn to run before his hand clamped around her mouth and he pulled her closer. What was up with him?! From everything she had read about him, she had yet to see, or even remember, anything about him losing his temper. Gotten angry? Yes. But this rage? No. She told herself to close her eyes, but fear made them wider. His eyes started to glow blue and she mumbled through his hand. She was trying to tell him not to do anything. That if he used his mana now, he could lose it forever, or at least while he was here.
"I can't pull mana...what have you done," he questioned in a quiet voice. Of course since she couldn't answer he continued, "I'll find out...myself..."
"Jace," a smooth voice came from behind her.
Payton's heart beat faster. She watched Jace look over at Tezzeret and tried to read what he was feeling in that moment. She saw confusion and anger. That much was certain. She finally got over her fear and gripped at Jace's wrist to try and push him off of her. However, his clothing hid how strong she knew he was so she soon gave up and settled for punching him in the jaw. It hurt her hand, she wasn't a fighter by any means after all. Jace grunted and his hold on her loosened for a split second. She used it to slip under his hand and almost out of his hold. He recovered fast and grabbed her again though.
"It would be in your best interest to not-"
"I should have known..."
It was the last thing she heard before she could feel him entering her mind. It was painful; he wasn't even being careful! Tezzeret finally jumped in and broke her away from Jace, but she was out cold in his arms, tears streaking down her face. Jace stood there staring in shock at the woman. This made the artificer raise an eyebrow in question.
"This girl...has been lying to you all."
(a few hours later)
She must still be hungover. But she hadn't drank that much had she? The pounding in her head told her she wasn't as careful as she thought she had been. She groaned softly and a frown set on her lips when a warm towel was pressed onto her head and she heard a male speaking. Hadn't her roommate already left...?
"I didn't mean to be that hard...that damn dragon must have messed with me somehow..."
".d..ragon...?" she cringed at both the tone of his voice and the loudness of it.
"Lower your voices," a female said right next to her in a low whisper. "She's waking up."
Payton opened her eyes slowly as things started to come back to her. Jace had shown up...that was surely why she had a headache like this. She remembered him entering her mind and she sighed. The jig was up. Well...they hadn't actually lied to them. The lot of the visitors asked no questions about if they knew who they were or about them. But at the same time...pretending they didn't was just as bad probably to them.
Sitting up, she sighed softly and looked at all of them. She didn't look scared, nor did she look like she regretted her decision. She slowly stood up and finally broke the silence.
"Just follow me...I'll show you everything."
"Not so fast," Gideon said, making her sit back down. She blinked up at him for a few seconds before relaxing back into the couch again. Once she had, he crossed his arms as he stood in front of her. She met his narrowed eyes with bored ones. She was just mind raped by a guy with a blue fetish, her roommates just walked out on her, she had lost her job at her mom's office because her mom had found out about her guests, and she was failing a class because of that one paper she had turned in late when they first came. On top of that, she hadn't kept up with her meds. Her emotions were haywire and the last thing she cared about was what she knew he was going to start saying.
"Why would you hide such a thing from us," he asked.
She chuckled at him, "I knew you were going to say that..." she sighed softly and rubbed at her neck. "Listen to this."
She sat up and gave a smile as if just meeting him again "Hey! Gideon Jura! You look a lot taller in person than you look on the cards you're featured on! Also would you sign one of my cards that I use in my mono white mana deck? OH! And want to see the armor I commissioned for me to dress like you?"
She dropped her smile when he gave her a look that was both surprised and slightly disgusted. "See? We were planning on telling you if there was a possibility that Jace showed up, but I didn't think he would come on his man-period."
Ok. So maybe smack talking planeswalkers was a bad idea, but for some reason she knew that she was safe. In fact, this was the safest she had felt in a long time. Even with Tibalt leaning against the wall giving her a huge smirk. Like he just won the lottery with her. No...something in her told her that she wouldn't be harmed...or killed at the least.
Jace rolled his eyes and pulled his hood over his head again. She didn't bother looking at him. Gideon was her concern right now. Out of all of them, she knew if she could convince him that she had done the right thing in keeping the card game a secret she wouldn't be up all night with questions.
"Look guys," she said with this in mind, "I'm not going to tell any of you anything. There isn't really a true canon with any of your stories asides from a series of books and what I would consider fanfics online. Even with those, I just don't think it would be in anyones' best interest if I did more than tell you that, yes, you all come from a card game called Magic the Gathering. Each of you are featured as powerful cards named planeswalkers...well Tibaly got the shit end but I'm still holding out for him." At this Tibalt gave a soft chuckle of amusement.
"I can even show you how to play this game...I have decks with each of you in them...and then some, but come on...the only one that can even tell you that I'm telling the truth has already convinced you. None of you just want to hear this but..."
She paused as she studied each of their expressions. Maybe she shouldn't say this...but she felt like it was the right thing to do. Plus she was just at the point of not caring.
"All of you don't exist...at least not for real...at least not here. This is NOT another world in the Multiverse. You didn't not planeswalk here...but I don't know how else you could have gotten here..."
She counted on her fingers as she went and stopped. All of them had stood and gotten closer to her. She lowered her hand and tensed up. She knew she had been way too harsh, but it was something they needed to get through their heads now, rather than later.
"Little girl...we all certainly feel real...," Tibalt said in a low voice.
"Card game or not," Nissa said from beside her, "You can't say we don't exist when we are sitting right beside you now."
"I must say I am hurt to hear you say that," Tezzeret said in a voice she knew meant he was being sarcastic and spiteful.
Before Jace or Gideon could put their two cents in she shook her head. "You're right...I should have said 'you're not supposed to exist'. Not here at least."
It didn't look like she had done any better. Everyone jumped when her phone started to ring loudly from her pocket. She pulled it out and answered it, standing, showing that she had to take the call, even if they still didn't understand what the device was. Jace was the only one who stared at the Iphone with confusion.
"Hey dad," she said into the phone as she walked through them to kitchen. She would use this halt in the conversation to get some asprin as well as make dinner. She took the medicine and started to pull ingredients out for pasta as she listened to her dad talk.
"Hey. What is this I'm hearing about you having guests over there," came his stern and angry voice.
"It's fine dad," she responded in a bored tone that showed she was used to it by now, "They are just some cosplay friends that needed a place to crash for a few months...You haven't met them...Their names? Nadia, George, Timothy, Jack, and T...Yes dad he likes to go by T..."
She listened to her dad rant and rave about her mother firing her then about how she herself was irrisponsible and how she needed to get her life together and stop with all these cosplay things. The entire time she kept the phone on her ear as she started to boil the water and season some chicken to go on top of it. She kept her responses to short "yes sir"s and "I know"s.
"Well are they paying their way?"
"Yes dad," she lied.
"I know you're lying Payton..." he sighed "Well don't call me for any help until they're gone."
She stopped what she was doing and stared at the wall with wide eyes. She was trying so hard not to cry through everything else, especially now when she saw that the planeswalkers had ventured to listen to her conversation, most likely sensing her distress. She closed her eyes and let the tears perk in her eyes.
"So because I'm being nice and letting my friends stay here even though they ARE helping me out..."
"Damnit Payton," he yelled loud enough for her to have to pull the phone away as he continued "You keep doing this stupid shit! You always say they are paying their way or that they will get you later and then come crying to me when things don't go your way! You nee-"
"Well dad I guess I won't call you unless I'm the next President of the United States!"
She hung up the phone and tried to keep herself from throwing it. She placed it calmly on the counter and continued on the chicken calmly...too calmly. She had even started to hum. Jace saw through it and slowly stepped forward. He didn't need to read her mind to see that she was about to break down. A strong pulling in him made him slowly put a hand on her shoulder. He frowned when she didn't stop what she was doing, cutting the chicken. She didn't react until Gideon had stepped forward and did the same. She turned with the knife in her hands and waved it at them, a scowl on her face. They stepped back with their hands up. She knew they were only trying to help but she HAD to keep it together. Her life is falling apart and she's alone in this now, yet she still knew she had to keep it together.
"...Just leave me alone...dinner will be ready in an hour."
"No," Nissa said, finally speaking up, "You're being irrational and hasty."
Hearing that, she knew what Nissa was thinking of. She appreciated hearing it, but she glared at her.
"Oh sure. Lost my job, my parents, my roommates, and failing a class and the only thing you think you're worried about is me being irrational and hasty," she said in a dark tone, "All of you came here and caused this. You didn't ask for it, and I sure as hell didn't either!" her voice started to raise and she threw the knife onto the counter. "I don't expect you to care about my well-being, I don't expect you to be my friend, but when I tell you to leave me alone it's the fucking LEAST YOU CAN DO."
Her phone started to ring again and she picked it up "SHUT IT!" she threw it at the wall and it silenced. She knew she hadn't broken it, the otterbox was on, but she had probably jarred the battery loose.
Staring at it she felt it coming before she could really stop it. The tightening in her chest, the lightheaded feeling, the sounds around her slowing down. She grew pale and darted from the room, barreling past all of them to run outside. The lack of a dog barking told her Tic Tac was gone, but right now that was a good thing. She pushed past the gate and crawled into the huge dog house still there. It had it's huge bed in it still and she curled up on it, holding herself letting her panic attack take over her body.
What the hell was she going to do?
