New chapter! Sorry for the delay ^^; I'd been in some other projects and also in University. And my parentes want me to limite the time I expent in the computer.
But enough talking about me! Lets get goign with the story ^^ Hope you all enjoy.
Spyro groaned as he shifted his weight over himself. He found himself back in his bed, with plate with food and a glass with water right beside it. Spyro closed his eyes tightly, praying that it all had been only a dream.
He moved his body, and tested each of his muscles, until he felt something missing.
With his heart heavy, Spyro looked over his shoulder to his wing, to find that it was no longer there. It was only a small protuberance in the place it used to be, wrapped in bandages.
Spyroi groaned as he clenched his eyes shut. One single tear escaping from them as he realized it had all been real. This was more than enough proof of it.
Spyro heard the groaning of his own belly, and clutched it in discomfort. He looked over the food in front of his bed, covered in paper. He reached it carefully with his paw, and unwrapped it.
He found out some chicken cooked with steamy vegetables. Spyro groaned to himself, and grabbed it with both paws, and gave a huge bite. It was cold, and seemed tasteless, but Spyro already ate rotted things from the thrash, he took a big gulp of the glass and forced himself to swallow.
He ate it until there were only bones left. And drank down the rest of the water. He placred the plate back on where it was, and remained in the bed without thinking for almost five minutes.
After a time, he finnaly decided to get out of the bed. He jumped to the ground, but was only able to walk two steps as he once fell to the ground. His missing wing was leaving him unbalanced, as there was different weights on the sides of his body.
Spyro groaned as he got up and tried to walk again, only to fall to the ground again. He felt like a hatchling that just came out of the egg and was now learning to walk.
He fell to the ground a few more times, before he finally was able to walk through the room without problems.
He stepped out of his room, and walked straight into Cynder and Yuri, startling both. For a long moment, they all remained there, in silence, all wondering what could be the right thing to say.
"So… Spyro." Said Cynder "Do you… Feel better?"
Spyro stared at her for a second, and lowered his head "How do you think I feel?" was all he said before walking straight through them.
"Spyro." Cynder called, but the purple dragon ignored her as he went upstairs. "Spyro." She called again, and was about to go after him, when Yuri stopped her "Let him be." He said "He need sometime alone."
Cynder was about to rely, but she got a second thought, and nodded. And they resumed their way to their respective rooms.
Spyro had arrived in the rooftop, one place that seemed decorated with a small garden, with many flowers. They were all closed now, it was night, and the moon was full on the sky.
Spyro thought he must have really dozed off for quite a time. But he didn't felt in the mood to think about it. Instead, he resumed back to his.
He gave a look to the talon that once was it, and for a moment he could swear that he was still feeling his wing in place. But those thoughts soon proved wrong.
Spyro lowered his head, and just stood there. His mind wandered with all the thoughts of all the things he ever dreamed: flying. He never was teached to flight, but he always imagined what it would be like.
He always imagined himself flying over the city, seeing everything from far above. Flying right beside his parents, a thought that now seemed silly. He imagined himself feeling the wind in his wings, without any weight, to the sunset. Free.
But now those dreams were far away. Crushed like his wing was. Took away from him… by his parents.
Spyro opened his eyes, both with tears and filled with anger. His parents. The ones who were suppose to care about him. They only mistreated him his whole life, and they were the ones who took his flight away, and almost took his life. Spyro noticed shine.
He looked over, and saw that the sun was raising. He had been in there the whole night. And he heard the song of birds humming. He looked up, and saw two blue birds flying over him.
They danced together in the air, and sang happily as they made a light fly over him. Spyro narrowed his eyes and growled at them. Feeling like the two birds were mocking him. Saying "Look here! We can fly and you can't!"
Spyro snarled, and opened his mouth, aiming to shot a fireball at them. But he was only able to let out a puff of smoke. Spyro groaned, imagining how ridiculous he should look.
Spyro felt defeated. It was all his parents… no… Terrador and Nova's fault. He bared his teeth. He was going to kill them!
But for a moment, he second guessed. He couldn't even kill two birds. How he was going to even make them any harm? It was fruitless. More than fruitless, he would only get himself killed by them.
But Spyro thought It wouldn't be better? He was already alone in the world. All the others wanted him dead. He would never be able to fly in his life. No one wanted him. He had nothing to life for.
With this thought, Spyro looked forward. His eyes empty of any emotion, and raised his paw, with his claws turned to himself, and closed his eyes. And approached the claws to his neck.
Just one quick slice. The purple dragon thought Just a few instants, and it will all be over.
Spyro tensed his arm as he readied himself to end everything. When, from nothing, something grabbed his paw and a voice screamed "What are you doing!?"
Spyro looked over, to see Yuri's worried face. The wolf was holding tightly his arm. But Spyro did not let himself down "I'm ending this!" He said bluntly "They all want me dead? So I'll give them what they want!"
And Spyro, as spook this, tried to slice his neck with his claws, but Yuri stopped him "Spyro no!"
"Let me go!" Spyro snarled, and he and the wolf started wrestling. They went to the ground, Spyro trying to escape from the wolf and kill himself in peace, while Yuri seemed determined to not let Spyro end his own life.
They wrestled for almost two minutes, before SPyro was finally able to push the wolf away, and snarled at him "Why don't you just let me be!?"
"Because I can't!" Said Yuri, trying to resonate with the young dragon "No matter what your reasons, I cannot simply let you throw your life away, like I couldn't let you die back there!"
"Oh yeah, lets talk about there when you 'saved' me!" Said Spyro, catching Yuri out of guard. "You should let me die! I would be better having left this world. Why you had to put himself in the middle?"
Yuri stared at Spyro for a while, and he sighed "Spyro." He said very calmly "I know that you may be feeling lost. But I can assure that dying is not the answer. I know perfectly what you're going throu-"
"NO! YOU DON'T!" Spyro yelled, startling he wolf. He had tears perking from his eyes "You have no idea what is like!" Yuri recovered "Spyro, calm down." He tried to say "Do you want to hear another of my musics?" He said, remembering how his song made Spyro seems to forget about his problems. "I have one that I wrote for the first person I fall in love with-"
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR SOME DANM MUSIC!" Spyro yelled at him, making Yuri flinch. "Stop talking like you understand what I'm going through!" His face was contorted with anger "You have no idea what is like to be an outcast!"
This last one made a effect. Yuri's face hardened as he stared at Spyro, he seemed almost angry. But Spyro did not noticed as he continued "You grew up with your own people. You never were rejected or mistreated in your life! You have no idea what is like to feel that everyone wants you dead!"
Yuri's face was hard as stone, the wolf closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Spyro not seemed to notice that the wolf was not like normally. "I don't want to hear some music you wrote for your first love! You can sing it if you want like you sang to her, but let me be!"
Spyro said as he walked past Yuri. The wolf closed his eyes again, and took another deep breath, and said "Him."
"Huh?" Spyro said, turning to him, Yuri turned to him, with his face serious, and said "The first person who I fell in love with, wasn't a she, but a he."
Spyro's eyes widened when he heard that, and he stared at the wolf, who glared to him. "He along with all the others after." He said, looking Spyro straight in the eye.
Spyro took a few moments to process what he had just heard. He already heard about… people like Yuri. And he was really surprised, because Yuri did not behaved or looked like what they said he would.
Yuri sighed and looked away "I was twelve when I realized it. They said it was just a phase, that we both would go through it. Well, he did, but I didn't." Yuri then turned back to Spyro.
"I had another love one year later. It was when I opened up with my parents." His voice seemed to become somewhat hurt. He sighed deeply "It is amazing how news go fast among the wolf tribes. In the next day everybody knew."
He turned back to Spyro, his face hard as stone "The wolfs are very close to each other, we have a very strong tribal bond. But when a wolf is different, like a threat to the pack, the rest of the pack rejects him."
A silence fell between them. Spyro processing what he heard "It… It happened to you?"
Yuri nodded "I was too different form the rest of them. My old friends went away, the others looked strange at me, and even my youngest cousins would stare at me like I was dirty."
Yuri sighed "And for the best part, my father told me that he would prefer that I was dead."
Another long silence, and Yuri started again "I leaved the tribe one week later. It was impossible to live there, they were all happy for I was gone." He turned to look to Spyro. "Can you imagine it? A thirteen years old boy, having to leave his home, and having to survive in his own out there?"
Spyro could not answer, and he looked to the ground. Yuri took this silence as an answer, and start talking again "I managed to survive with all the things my pack teached me. I passed by many other villages, and had other loves, but I never was accepted after they discovered I preferred males over females."
He sighed "I bet you have heard many things about people like me." He said to Spyro "They told you that we were all a bunch of immorals? That we were disgusting? That we all lived in pure sin? A freak of nature?"
Spyro did not answered and Yuri continued "I bet they have. I never hid from Warfang my preferences, and practically everyone in the city knows. I see that they look at me differently, I notice that they make the children stay away from me, I notice that the people who buy things from me talk to me different from the others, I hear what they say from me in my back. I know what they think about me."
Spyro remained silence, Yuri sighed, and walked to him, knelling right in front of him. "Spyro, look at me." The purple dragon remained with his gaze locked in the ground "Spyro, I'm serious, look at me." The wolf insisted, his tone very serious.
Spyro slowly raised his eyes, to meet the wolf's eyes, his expression had really softened "I have been openly gay since I was thirteen, in my home village and in everywhere I went next. I know how life can be cruel. I know it can hurt very much. But I also know, that you can still living."
Spyro looked at him for a few moments, finding worry and comfort in those amber-colored eyes. After this time, he looked to the ground "But…" said Spyro "I lost my home, my family, my wing. What can I do of my life now?"
Yuri remained silence for a few moments "Did you made the lyrics?"
"Huh?"
"The lyrics I said you should do." Said the wolf, remembering of the first time they meet "The lyrics for the melody. You could write them."
Spyro eyed the wolf for a few moments, he highly doubted that he could write a song, and doubted also that it would help him "But, I don't know how to write a song.
Yuri shrugged "Like I said, it is not that hard if you put your heart to it." He said, offering a sincere smile "Do you promise me you will try?"
Spyro remained silence for a few moments, and said "I… I promise."
Yuri smiled, and patted his head "Good, now, why don't we go downstairs to eat our breakfast?" He said, getting up and walking off. Spyro remained in place for a few seconds, and then followed him.
Down there was Cynder, she was sitting in the table, with her plate in front of herself. She was a bit startled as both came, but soon she calmed down, and they all sat to ate their food. Some cereal and milk.
An awkward silence fell over them as they ate. Spyro had no will to talk and Cynder seemed insecure of saying anything, and Yuri was still not thinking he needed to say anything after the talk he and Spyro just had.
They finished the food rather quickly, and Spyro, before anyone could say anything, picked up all plates, and walked to the sink to wash all of them. Nor Yuri or Cynder tried to talk to him, thinking it would be better leaving him alone.
Yuri just said, as he passed by Spyro "Don't forget, you promised."
Spyro looked at him briefly, and remembered full well of the promise he did to the wolf minutes ago in the hoof. Spyro finished the dishes, and then he went to the living room
In there, laying in the couch, armed with paper and feather, he tried to put himself to write, but he found himself with no mood. But he remembered he had promised to Yuri he would at least try, and so, he decided to put himself to work.
He stared at the paper, for minutes, that dragged for hours. He tried to think of something to write, but everything he thought seemed or silly or not to fit. He tried to approach the feather, but soon put it far again.
He remembered what Yuri said, about writing about his emotions. He tried to focus on the emotions he had in mind in the moment, he felt angry, he felt sad, he felt depressed. Think about his emotions was taking making he feel worse and less inclined to compose. So he stopped thinking about it.
He then tried other thing, thinking about people who were important to him, his mind fluttered to his parents, and all the bad things they ever did to him. He felt even worse. Because it passed by his mind that he was completely rejected, and the ones he thought that cared about him, actually didn't. He felt more lonely than ever.
Spyro jerked when he felt a hand in his shoulder "Oh, easy there." Said Yuri "You can give a break now, it is lunch time."
"What? Already?"
"Yeah, it is past mid-day." Spyro could barely believe he spent so much time doing it, and he felt, for the first time in hours, his stomach growling and the smell of food.
Spyro soon walked to the dinner table, and found himself staring at some delicious-looking steak with rice. He liked his lips, and didn't even waited for the others to sit to start chewing.
"So, Spyro." Cynder tried to put up a conversation "You have been in the couch the whole morning. What were you doing?"
Spyro stopped for a moment and looked at her, and back to his plate "I… I was trying to write lyrics."
This surprised Cynder, and Spyro completed "It was Yuri's idea."
Cynder looked at the wolf, who only smiled as he ate his food. The lunch passed without many talk, but after they all finished, Cynder asked again "So, in your lyrics… Did you make any good ones?"
Spyro looked at her "Actually, I didn't even started yet." Yuri and Cynder looked at him "It is hard. Nothing I could come with sounded good to be a song."
The two noticed that Spyro seemed somewhat depressed, and after a moment of silence, Yuri said "So, I'll go look for crystals now. Cynder, why don't you and Spyro do something together while I'm out?"
Both dragons looked surprised at him as he got up and went to the door "You could please wash the dishes? And when you finish you can go outside to play, but don't go far from home, and don't do anything I wouldn't." He finished, winking at them as he picked a long cape and a basket and went outside the door.
The two young dragons were left alone in silence. They shared a look.
"Well…" said Cynder, "Better I wash the dishes." She reach out for them, when Spyro said "No, you did it yesterday. I do it." And he picked up all the plates and walked to the sink.
Spyro filled it with clean water, and starts washing down the dishes, he did that until they were shinning. Cynder offered to help, and she was drying the dishes as Spyro finished, soon it was all cleaned and well stored.
"So… I'll go back to my lirics." Spyro sdaid as he walked away, but Cynder intermitted "Maybe you should have a break." She said "Why don't we go outside?"
Spyro took a moment of thinking, and only nodded in approval. So, they went outside. The day was calm and clean, with few clouds in the sky and the sun was shinning. Spyro Sighed in happiness as he felt the sunrays heating his skin, the soft grass tickling his paws, and the warm summer breeze blowing in his face.
He was called back by Cynder, who suddenly touched his nose, startling him. She smiled and said "Tag! You're in it!" and she ran away. Spyro stood there for a moment, and then she called him "Can't catch me!" A smile creped in Spyro's face, and he ran after her.
Spyro chased her for quite a while, they ran over the fields, both laughing as they trotted togheter, Cynder running form Spyro as he chased her.
Spyro could not remember the last time he played, nor the last time that someone wanted to play with him. For the first time in his life, he was having real fun with someone else.
Cynder went up and down the hills as Spyro chased her, they jumped over logs and ran over the grass fields near the house.
After a few minutes of chasing, Spyro almost touched Cynder, that was when she flapped her wings and took flight. She shoared in the sky as she said "Try catching me!"
Spyro's smiled disappeared, and he looked to the ground. Cynder realized her mistake, and went back to the ground, landing next to Spyro. "Sorry. I forgot."
"It's okay." Spyro said, trying to offer a smile, but it didn't came right. "I never learned to fly, anyway. I guess not having a wing don't change things that much."
Cynder looked at him in silence for a while, and then looked up "The clouds are beautiful." She said, Spyro looked at her, and looked up.
Spyro never really had the chance of stopping and looking at the clouds. This was one of the few chances he had to really do so. The sky was beautiful, of a deep blue color, while the clouds puffed over it with their pure white color.
Spyro noticed that some of them remembered familiar shapes. Spyro turned back to Cynder, and noticed she had laid on his back, and was now facing the sky. Spyro looked at her for a few seconds, and did the same, laying by her side.
"Look!" said Cynder, pointing for a particular cloud "Don't look like you?"
Spyro noticed that in fact, the cloud looked somewhat like him. The body style, the horns, and one wing.
"And that look like a dragon fruit." She pointed at a cloud that remembered the grape-like fruit. It approached the cloud that remembered him, and then on curious thing happened.
The Spyro cloud seemed to open it's mouth, as the dragond fruit cloud seemed to move on it's direction. The two clouds united in a way that seemed that Spyro was gulping down the fruit.
Cynder chuckled "You are a glutton." She said joking, and Spyro chuckled with her "Yeah, this fruit must be really good."
The kept looking at the clouds, some remembered dragons, other remembered other creatures, some remembered objects, like trees and karts, and some remembered food.
They made all kind of commentaries to each other, laughed, and talked together. Until Yuri's voice called them back "Hello, kids."
They both raised their legs to see the wolf standing in there, a smile in his face and a bag full of crystals. He smiled at them "Good to see you two are coming along nicely."
They chuckled, and only then they noticed they were there for hours, and the sun had changed position in the sky. It was the late of the afternoon.
"Wow. We stayed here for all this time?" Spyro asked, surprised, as he and Cynder got up. The black dragoness chuckled "Yeah, when you're having fun, time really flies."
She immediately regretted saying this, because Spyro adopted another sad look, and stared at the ground. She and Yuri looked at him worriedly, and Yuri walked to him and put a hand in his shoulder.
Spyro sighed, and before they could say anything, he said "I'm fine, is just…" he paused for a second, and then said "I always wondered how it would be like to fly. But I guess now I'll never know."
There was a silence. Yuri thought for a moment, and small smile formed in his face "I can show you." He said, and Spyro looked at him.
"Honestly Yuri, I don't think that being carried by a wolf feels the same as flying." The purple dragon said, thinking it was what the wolf wanted to do.
To his surprise, the wolf chuckled, he turned to Cynder "Could you please take this inside dear? Thank you." He said as Cynder picked the bag and went inside, while he turned to Spyro and said "Follow me." And he walked away, Spyro took a moment to follow him.
They walked across the trees , with Yuri guiding. Spyro was worried "Yuri." He called "Are you sure we should come this way? They said that predators live in this forest, and apes." He sounded worried, but Yuri said "Don't worry. I protect you."
Many dragon's would find funny what the wolf said. Since when a wolf could protect a dragon? But considering that Spyro had poor physical shape and was very lousy at using his natural powers, it was really more likely for him to have to be protected by the wolf.
They walked for a few minutes, and the wolf was looking at the sun, that was not far form setting. Spyro imagined that he was worried because at night it would be more dangerous.
"Here we are." Said Yuri, Spyro looked at the place they had arrived: it was one regular sizzed cliff, covered into lust grass. Spyro evaluated the place for a while and asked "Where is here?"
Yuri looked at him smiling "A place where anyone can know what flying feels like." Spyro was about to ask him what he meant, when he said "And just in the right time."
As soon as he said these words, there was the sound of blowing wind. The grass moved at the sudden influx of wind came form down the hill upward.
Spyro got a bit startled, but Yuri remained smiling. The wolf walked forward, right at the edge of the cliff. He opened his arms, and let himself fall forward.
"Yuri!" Spyro exclaimed when he saw the wolf about to fall, but, to his surprise, the wolf didn't fall, instead, he remained in the air! His feet still in the edge, and his fur agitating by the wind that came from down. It seemed like the wolf was flying!
Spyro looked at him jaw dropped for a while, before the wolf's voice snapped him back "Hey Spyro! Come on! This won't last long!"
Spyro stared, and approached cautiously. And so, he straightened his body forward, his hind paws not for a moment leaving the edge. He felt the strong wind coming from under him, supporting him in midair.
Spyro opened his eyes, and looked down. He saw a small fall and lusty green grass under him. He then looked at Yuri, who was smiling at him "So, what do you think?"
Spyro could barely form words to describe what he was feeling. He felt weightless and free. He felt amazing "This…" the purple dragon said laughing "This is too good!"
"I know!" was Yuri's answer. For a minute they both remained there, letting the wind carry them. Spyro let himself go in the moment, and opened his wing.
Before he realized it, he was blew upward, spinning like a top and screaming in surprise. He flipped across the air, and after a while, he suddenly felt the wind stop.
At first, Spyro felt relieved as he stopped spinning, but soon he felt fear o discover that nothing more was going to sustain his body, and he fell.
The purple dragon screamed as he fell, but abruptly stopped as he felt something grab him by the hind parts, and hold him from falling. Spyro was confused, and he looked over his shoulder to meet Yuri holding him. The wolf pulled him back and helped him get back on the cliff.
They both laid there panting "That…" said Yuri "Was way too close for my taste."
After a few moments of silence, Spyro said "Sorry. I-", but Yuri interrupted him "No, I'm the one who should say sorry." He said panting "I should have told you that opening a wing with such a wind is not a good idea."
Yuri looked forward "The same thing happened to Cynder first time she did that." He said chuckling. Spyro stood there, the adrenalin already subsiding "This is really what flying feels like?"
Yuri smiled at him "According to Cynder, is almost the same thing. It only differs that you have more control." The wolf then looked at the sun, that was almost setting "Lets go back home."
Once back in home, Yuri cooked some fish for them, and they all ate it.
"Delicious!" said Yuri, patting his belly. He recoiled all the plates and put them into the sink. "Now, for dessert…" He brought some dragon fruits, one for Spyro, one for Cynder, and one for himself.
Cynder dig in while Yuri ate calmly. Spyro tried a bite. It was the most delicious thing he ever ate! So sweet and juicy. Spyro finished it in two big bites.
They all sighed happily. But Yuri noticed that Spyro was still down somehow. "What is wrong Spyro?"
Spyro looked at him, and then back down "Is just…" The purple dragon said "I… I'm all alone."
Cynder and Yuri looked at him surprised, the purple dragon closed his eyes "I have no longer a home." He said "The only two who I thought that cared about me actually didn't. I can't even fly anymore, and no one cares about me."
Cynder and Yuri looked at Spyro. Yuri's face then hardened, he got up and walked off. Spyro and Cynder watched as he walked and soon came back with another dragon fruit in hands.
He placed the fruit in Spyro's plate, as he said "Normally I only would let you eat only one. Bu toyu can have the second. But only if your promise not to say you have no one again."
Spyro looked at the fruit, and then at the wolf "Why?"
"Because we are someone!"
Spyro looked surprised at him. The wolf was able to smile back at him "You have me and Cynder." The black dragoness smiled at him too. Spyro looked at them both, and tears start forming in his eyes.
He turned back at the fruit, and give it a bite "Yuri… Cynder…" Tears slipped from his eyes "Thank you!" he said as he devoured the fruit. Yuri smiled at him, and Spyro said "And I'll finish that lyric! I promise!"
Yuri chuckled "I'm anxious to hear it when it's ready."
Yes. Spyro would finish that lyrics, for Yuri. The wolf give him a home when he was alone, feed him when he was hungry, was nice to him when he most needed, and made him feel better.
He was eternally grateful ot the wolf. And he was going to show it through a song. He would write a song of how Yuri changed his life to the better. He would do that, would be his way of thanking Yuri for all he'd done…
