If there were an award for inconsistent updating, would I be a contender for it? I would think so.

Have some fluff.

Enjoy.

One thing became painstakingly obvious to Skoochy within moments.

'You haven't eaten in a day?'

Jinora was about to say something when gurgling sounds began to resonate from her stomach. Skoochy could hardly contain his amusement at the sight of little Jinora sitting on the ground, struggling to hide her embarrassment as she buried her face in her knees which she hugged to her chest. He took a moment to take in the all familiar scene. Despite the time apart, it felt as though nothing had changed between them. Jinora being red faced half the time she was with him, while he made fun of her for it. He couldn't help but smile.

She was here. That's all that mattered.

'Well.' Skoochy piped as he sat himself down next to her, 'Welcome to my life.'

Jinora turned her head toward him, and immediately he saw the look in her eyes. It was the sort of look as though she had said something she shouldn't have. Quickly he realised why she had that look and suddenly he began to feel bad. He had meant that remark in a jokingly fashion, but now Jinora was feeling guilty that she had complained about hunger him, a homeless youth. It didn't matter to him, but he knew Jinora's conscience would never allow that to simply slide. He needed to divert her thoughts away from it.

'Uh… So, airhead,' Skoochy started awkwardly, 'What took you so long? To get here, I mean.'

To Skoochy's relief, it seemed to have worked. The topic of conversation swayed as Jinora regaled the past few weeks to him. Her father's reprimanding, the confiscation of her glider and disguise, the excessive use of White Lotus sentries watching over her and not to mention all the frustrating boredom among other things. It sounded like she had had it rough lately, and he could tell by the tone of her voice how overjoyed she was to be away from Air Temple Island. However, it drew concern about how her family would react to finding out she had run away. Such thoughts went away when an abrupt sound of gurgling came from Jinora once again. And once again, colour rose in her face out of embarrassment. Skoochy couldn't help but laugh at her.

'Right then!' Skoochy announced as he stood himself up, 'Time to get some grub in your belly.'

He leaned down and took Jinora by the hand. Despite her protests, he led her along at a quick pace, weaving through the commonfolk as he laughed without a care in the world. He didn't know where he was going, nor did he have any particular place in mind. But it reminded him of when he first met Jinora, when he found the shy, quiet bookworm somewhere where she obviously shouldn't have been. When he took her by the hand and took her out for a night on the town. Showing her a world she had yet to be exposed to properly. Doing a deed that made Jinora smile so brightly. It made him happy.

He was happy.

Skoochy turned his head back for a moment, and it quickly became apparent that Jinora was struggling to keep up with him. He stopped to allow a moment of respite. As she caught her breath, an aroma caught Skoochy's attention.

Yes!

Off he went as he followed his nose with glee, reluctant airbender in tow yet again. Some more ducking and weaving, pushing and shoving, and they soon found themselves by a quaint, little roadside stall. His mouth began to water as he took in the sight of generous chunks of skewered meat, sizzling loudly on a hot plate as it gave off a pleasant aroma that stirred the appetite.

He told Jinora to wait a moment before approaching the stall on his own. Business had died down, so he had no trouble approaching the lady on the other side of the hot plate. A few yuans were slapped down onto the small counter space as he made a request for her to surprise him. They exchanged a few lines of banter as she enquired if the money he had offered was really his, being aware of who he was. It didn't particularly matter in the end, as it was done out of jest. Money was money, and the transaction was made.

Only a couple minutes passed before he returned to the lonesome Jinora, meaty skewers in hand. It was at that moment that he saw the look on her face, a look of pure disgust and horror. It was not long after that that he came to the realisation that one simple fact had flown right over his uneducated head.

Airbenders and Air Acolytes don't eat meat.

A palm to the face was in order, but his hands were full at the moment. He ummed and ahhed awkwardly and he tried to formulate a rationale for his choice of food, too stubborn to admit he had gone by his own preference instead of considering Jinora's. Quickly, he spewed out a 'beggars can't be choosers' argument, that at this time of night fresh fruit and vegetable stores were all closed. But the airbender wouldn't budge. He tried again, this time explaining that he didn't have the money on him to buy something else. Again, Jinora was refusing. He then made an attempt at posing the question of whether all life was truly sacred enough for her to not eat. Though this only managed to offend her. He kept knocking at the gate for some time, but eventually Jinora's hunger got the better of her.

Although reluctant, Jinora took one of the skewers from Skoochy. She sat herself down at a nearby bench and inspected what Skoochy had brought her. A number of cube shaped pieces of white meat, neatly stacked on top of one another on a thin wooden stick. The meat itself was covered in a light brown sauce that gave off an aroma of nuts. It seemed her hunger was getting the better of her inhibitions. Her aversion for meat seemed to disappear more and more as she continued to stare at it. She glanced at Skoochy who had sat himself next to her. He was digging heartily into his food. The sight of him eating only spurred her hunger on further. She looked back at her food and sighed.

Here goes nothing.

Jinora bit into it. She pondered the taste for a moment before she chewed. The majority of the flavour came from the sauce, which tasted as it smelled, of nuts accompanied with a light saltiness. The meat in comparison was rather bland and lightly charred. As she began to chew, the meat broke apart in her mouth. The oil it was fried in giving it a smooth texture which seemed to melt in her mouth. It was like nothing she had ever eaten. Before she knew it, she was taking another bite. And then another, and another.

Skoochy watched as Jinora demolished her meal. The sight of a hungry child tearing into food was something he had seen many times in his life. But for the first time, there were implications behind this sight that brought amusement to him. In no time, all that was left in her hands was a thin wooden stick.

Jinora sighed as she leaned back into the bench, her hands falling to either side of her. She glanced to Skoochy beside her, only to find one of the smuggest of grins she had ever seen strewn across his face.

'So how was is, airhead?' Skoochy seemed to tease more than ask.

Skoochy was met with a frown. Jinora's cheeks were puffed in annoyance. Normally she would look at least a little intimidating, for as much as a young girl could. But the fact that sauce covered the area around her mouth only worked to throw him into a fit of laughter. Barely containing himself, he pointed the fact out to her. Jinora's reaction was all too familiar as her face became flushed in embarrassment. Quickly she wiped her mouth on her jacket's sleeve and she stood up from the bench.

Jinora stood in front of the boy as she leaned forward, hands on hips, and brought herself down to his eye level. Skoochy chuckled nervously as she leaned in closer, mustering the most menacing look she could manage.

'Just get me an apple next time.' Jinora simply demanded.

Skoochy shuffled awkwardly in his seat, scratching the back of his head as he chuckled meekly.

'I'll keep that in mind, airhead.'

So like... What's the Avatar world's equivalent to chicken?

Short chapter, but it's something. As for the next chapter, I don't know, you might be waiting over a year again. I wouldn't hold my breath.
