It wasn't one heartbreak after another, though. Between Sabo's death and the discovery of Luffy's cancer, there had been several great years. Things had been really good.

But when Ace turned sixteen, Luffy had started getting sick.

It started out with some headaches, which were easily brushed off. Then he started sleeping more, which didn't seem alarming. But then he started to get bruises from the slightest of touches, bruises that weren't healing.

He caught a fever one night and Garp took him to urgent care. And then Luffy ended up in the hospital.

And then he officially had leukemia.
