A/N: It's been quite a while, and I've missed FanFiciton. I've come to finish what I started. I apologize but I hope you're still interested in a completed story.
Bella's POV
Since what I've dubbed to be literally a period of hell in my life- Charlie's death, imprinting, Victoria nearly killing me, then Edward- life managed to calm down.
Our focus now is each other, and enjoying one another's company. We hashed out all the pain from before, so that we could leave the past where it belonged. I made the decision to move in with Jacob on the reservation, and found a job closer to home. I refused to turn into a housewife, I loved Jacob, and the Pack, but I needed something that was still me. I didn't want things to be like before, where I lost myself in a relationship. When I think about it, Jake never allows me to feel that way, he always reminds me what I bring to the table.
Jacob had recently taken over as Chief of the tribe from Billy. Plenty of changes had occurred both while I was gone, and soon after moving back. The Pack agreed it was time to tell the necessary people about being shape shifters. Only the Council and immediate family members could know, it was an attempt to create transparency and better communication between the young and old generations.
"I know it was a hard choice moving back. Thank you."
Sitting on the couch my legs propped on the coffee table, I looked up from my laptop at Jake. "What makes you think it was a hard choice for me?"
"C'mon, you were living in New York City. That'd be hard for anyone."
Moving my laptop to the table, Jake laid his head in my lap, his long legs hanging over the arm of the couch. It never failed to amaze me just how much better looking Jake got with age.
"I'll admit, I had some reservations, but in the end it was easy. You're here." Stroking his head, I smiled, because I know that Jacob is home. No matter where we lived, if we were together, we'd make it feel like home.
"Maybe we can get away for a little bit, now that things seemed to have calmed down?" Jake twirled the remote in his hands, he stared at the ceiling lost in thought.
"Yeah that would be nice… Just the two of us?" I don't even know if Jacob has ever left the Reservation for a long period of time. We've never spent a long period of time alone. The idea of a little getaway was starting to excite me. Jacob's hearty chuckle pulled me out of my fantasy.
"Of course Bells, you think I'd invite the whole Pack?" He looked at me like I have a penis drawn on my forehead.
"Well, I never know, we're never really alone, per se."
Jacob graced me with that warm smile I love so much, "Well don't worry about a thing baby, I'll plan everything. It'll be great."
With that Jake lifted his head to kiss me, and in the same movement, leapt off the couch to where ever he was going. Leaving me feeling like he was up to something mischievous.
Leah's POV
I knew after imprinting on Will, I wouldn't be able to keep anything a secret for long. Bella's sudden disappearance sort of catapulted the process of telling Will all the important facts. The fact that I turned into a wolf he believed with no problem. It was the concept of imprinting that Will seemed to be struggling with. He accepted it of course, but ever since he's seemed a little down, not as upbeat as usual.
Just as I finished getting dressed, I heard Will's truck pull into the driveway. I headed for the front door, opening it just as he was about to knock. He looked as handsome as ever, brown hair pulled back in a low ponytail, his green eyes seemed warmer today with some hazel fading out from his irises. He wore a crisp white crew neck t-shirt, burgundy colored pants, and black boots that were laced halfway. My stomach fluttered, and I had to force down a gulp I was thankful he couldn't hear. I'd never get used to this feeling.
"Hey gorgeous. How are you?" He leaned in kissing my cheek.
"Honestly?"
A confused look spread across his face, "Yeah, honestly."
"I'm worried about you. About us?" Will's eyes gave away his feelings, further validating my concerns. He grabbed my hand and walked us around to the back yard.
The sun played peek-a-boo behind the gray clouds. I was comfortable, but for a normal human being, it was probably chilly if the wind blew. We sat down on the bench swing hanging across from the hammock.
"It's not what you think." Will started, I was immediately worried about the direction of this conversation. Usually when people say, "It's not what you think", it's exactly that.
"Then what is it, because the not knowing is bothering me." I didn't want to waste time beating around the bush. Just give it to me straight, good or bad news.
"This imprinting thing… Your wolf chose me?" One eyebrow was raised while his eyes paced mine, and his lips rolled over each other.
"Yes." It's true, imprinting is based on the wolf' basic needs. I understood that, as a dominate female, I needed a dominate partner. Fortunately, imprinting fits the human's needs and wants.
"So would you have been interested in me without the imprint?" Will looked straight ahead, his hands clasped in front of him as he leaned forward on his elbows. The movement made his t-shirt tighten across his back muscles. I could feel the tension rolling off of him in waves now. My wolf paced in anxiety in my mind's eye.
"Honestly, I'm not sure. I really like what I know about you now, and my feelings grow every day I get to spend with you. The wolf is a part of me, but it doesn't control me."
He turned to face me completely, "I guess, what I want to know is that you like me, and it's not some magical voodoo forcing you to be with me."
"Will, after everything I've experienced, I can tell you that if I didn't like you as a person, I definitely wouldn't want a relationship with you. I like you Will, and I want things between us to grow." I was holding his hand by the time I was done.
The look on his face seemed relieved, and I felt his tension ease up. My own anxiety dissipated as the realization that it wasn't anything worse. I could work with this, I don't mind proving to my imprint that I actually like him. Soon he'd see it was much more than that.
"Whew, well I'm glad I got that off my chest. Now let's go have some fun." He stood up, pulling me up with him. We stood there for a minute, I couldn't help myself, so I kissed him. We were both smiling as we pulled away from each other.
