A/N: I chose Romance as the genre because it seems like it fits the best. I apologize in advance for spelling and grammatical errors if there are any. I wrote this immediately after watching the entire season in one night. This anime was just so good!

Her First Letter

Dear Major Gilbert Bougainvillea,

Her room fell silent as Violet's fingers froze over the keys.

What was she going to write to the Major? What did she want to say?

Violet's fingers creaked, but didn't have the strength to press down on a key.

She knows how to write a letter. She had written countless letters for many other people! Oh, why was it so difficult to write her own?!

Violet had many things she wanted to say to Major Bougainvillea. Dozens of thoughts shot through her head at once like bullets amidst a chaotic firefight, something she was far too familiar with. Her fingers creaked into a fist as she once again remembered all she had done during the war. Honestly, everything was so much easier back then. Disgustingly easy, even. Taking orders, following them without question, and executing them like a mindless weapon.

Now, with absolutely no guidance, no chains to restrain her, Violet felt as if she was imprisoned by her own free will.

A feeling she had felt once before in the presence of Major Bougainvillea.

That time on that Thanksgiving Day when he asked her, "What do you want?"

"You couldn't write it?" Claudia asked the next morning. He and Cattleya gave Violet puzzled looks.

Violet nodded. "I have...feelings," she said softly. "I had them...even back then. I just didn't know what they were."

"And what's troubling you now?" Cattleya asked warmly.

"I just don't know," Violet continued. "I just don't know what I..."

"You don't know what you want to say to the Major?" Cattleya asked.

Violet nodded.

"Violet," Claudia said. "The deadline is tonight. But if you write it by tomorrow morning, I will take it to the office myself. So just make sure you write one. Even if it is something short, okay?"

Violet walked back to her room after her visit with Major Gilbert's mother at the Bougainvillea Mansion.

She sat at her desk. Her fourth and, albeit short, draft of her letter with an introduction of Dear Major Gilbert, still sat at in her typewriter. She removed the paper and replaced it with a fresh sheet.

Metallic clacking filled her room as she began her fifth draft.

Dear Gilbert,

Thank you for all that you've done for me

Violet's fingers paused before slowly typing the next three letters.

and

Her fingers froze once more.

She could feel a small sweat as her heart started racing.

Violet swallowed the lump in her throat.

I love you, too.
