Fair Maiden

Two Boys were leaning over something. Well it was more of a someone, or according to them, a nobody.

The person they were leaning over was heavily bruised over their tiny body. The boys continued began their assault on the poor girl. Punching, kicking, and even punching her with brass knuckles now and then. The girl in the middle was crying waiting for them to stop, knowing no one was going to help her.

How wrong she was.

A boy looked at the scene, inwardly wondering what to do. Should he help or leave her alone. He had his own share of bullying, just because he wasn't as good as everyone else.

He had decided.

He began to walk up to them. Each step a little hesitant, but he kept going. It was too late to turn back now.

"Stop it! Leave her alone!" He said in the loudest voice he could muster. Even though, they heard it.

"Says who? You?" One mock asked.

"It can't be him, he would never stand up to us." The other added.

"Yes, me, and I can do whatever I want! I want you to stop bothering her!" He shouted, or at least tried.

"Oh so the Loser finally got some courage." The first one said.

"Well to bad!" The second one shouted.

"What has she ever done to you? Nothing. You just like to pick on people just to make yourself feel big. I think you guys are the cowards." He said his voice rising with each word till he was shouting.

The bell rang. Saved by the bell. The two boys looked at each other.

"We'll get you later Loser, you to Ugly." One said as the both walked off.

The boy made sure that both were gone before helping the girl up.

The girl had been watching the boy stand up for her. She was pretty sure that she had seen him getting beaten up too. Why would he help her? Her mind was going a mile a minute so of course she didn't notice the hand he offered her.

This was just going to make it worse. All he did was make them angry.

Using her hands to push off the ground, she ignored the hand and got up. She winced.

'This is going to be harder to hide.' She thought.

Noticing that she had already gotten up he dropped his hand to his side.

"Are you okay?" The boy asked.

"You know what will happen, right?" The girl asked as she stared at the ground. Her bangs covered her face.

"What?" He responded. He was confused, what will happen?

"The beatings. They'll just get worse. You shouldn't have interfered." She said, her face still looking at the ground.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Will you at least tell me your name?" He asked.

Her face shot up. He actually wanted to know her name? No one ever cared enough t ask her name.

"It's-" She began.

"Oy, you two get to class!" A teacher shouted from the front doors.

The boy looked at the teacher, when he looked back the girl was gone. He looked in every direction, trying to find her. He spotted her, but she was already half way to the school.

"Goodbye, fair maiden." The boy spoke with a hit of sadness in his voice.
