Yuna sat on the couch watching TV when Tidus walked back into the living room where she was with a cup of warm milk in his hand. He gave it to Yuna who took it, took a sip of it and then sat it down on the coffee table in front of her, looking at Tidus who sat down closely beside her. He moved a lose strand of hair away from her face, resting his arm on the back of the couch while turning and facing her.
"Yuna. . ." Tidus trailed off. "You're not actually considering leaving for good, are you? I mean, without you there that place is. . . I don't know. . . boring. It just wouldn't be the same." Yuna gave a crooked smile at that lame comment. "Well at least I got a little smile out of you." Yuna got her milk, taking a sip while propping her feet up on the couch. And while getting comfortable, Tidus scooted even closer to here to where they were only inches apart. Yuna then turned to him where she came in contact with his eyes. He was more than eager to hold her close to him like he was doing only moments ago, but would Yuna allow him to do so? He gently slipped her cup of milk from her hands and sat it aside. "I need you by my side you. Both on the force and my best friend. You can't leave. Without you, I'm nothing."
"It's just too hard, Tidus." Yuna said looking away. "Everyone knows what happened. All of the guys knows what happened and you know how some of them feel about me being there to begin with. I mean, who wouldn't jump at a chance to be your partner. You're good at your job, Tidus. You'll find someone to replace me."
Tidus shook his head. "I already gave Auron my notice"
Yuna's eyes went wide. "You what?"
"I told Auron that if you left then I was leaving as well." Tidus said.
"You can't do that because of me, Tidus!" Yuna said.
"Already done!" Tidus said. "You are my partner, Yuna. You have been from the very day you joined the force." Tidus chuckled when thoughts began to run through his mind. "Do you remember the very first day you were on the job?"
Yuna thought to herself for a minute and then actually cracked a smile and even giggled. "As a matter of fact, I still do." She giggled again. "I was so nervous when I first met Auron. And even more nervous when I found out that the one and only big shot, A class Tidus was going to be my partner."
"I was just as shocked as you were when I found out you were a woman." Tidus admitted. "I expected some annoying rookie kid to be my partner."
Flashback
Tidus sat at his desk doing paper work when Auron flew the door open. Tidus stopped what he was doing, looking up only to see his boss glaring at him.
"What did I do now?" Tidus asked
"You got yourself a new partner." Auron stated. "And not a word about the fact that your new partner is a woman." Tidus' eyes went wide, however, before he could object, Yuna stepped into view and his jaw just dropped."
"Hi. I'm Yuna, but you can call me Yunie." Yuna said with a smile. "It's a pleasure to be working with you."
"No it's not." Tidus said and Yuna frowned a bit. "The pleasure is ALL mine, my lady." Yuna just smiled.
Flashing over
Tidus and Yuna sat in his car on stake out, watching the so called bad guys across the street just waiting for the trade to go down. And was he ever fussing about what she was wearing.
"I can't believe you wore a short skirted suit, three inch heels, your nails done your hair done and even make up to a stake out. You'd think someone invited you to dinner or something." Tidus complained
"What do you care how I look?" Yuna asked "As long as we get the job done- -"
"You can't chase after bad guys in heels." Tidus said pointing at her feet.
"That's why I am a woman and you're just a man, you sexiest pig!" Yuna spatted.
"Sexiest pig?" Tidus questioned.
"Shut up!" Yuna almost shouted, covering his mouth with her hand. "It's happening! Let's move!" Yuna quickly grabbed her gun and exited the car with Tidus right behind her. She ran towards three goons, taking aim at them. "HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!" The two goons saw her and with illegal substances in hand, they fled the scene. "Oh, no you don't!" She looked at Tidus who finally made it to where she was. "Head down that back alley way and cut them off! I'll lead them straight to you."
"How- -" Tidus started
"Fuss about my shoes later, okay!" Yuna shouted. "Move!"
Immediately, Tidus headed down the back alley way behind the grocery store while Yuna gave chase. She chased the two goons down the crowded streets of Zanarkand. When suddenly, just as they ran by the alley way, Tidus jumped out, taking down one of the goons. And before the other could get any farther, Tidus grabbed his ankle, causing him to trip. The goon turned over on his back only to be greeted by the barrel of Yuna's 9mm hand gun.
End Flashback
Both Tidus and Yuna were laughing now. Revisiting the past seemed to have brought a smile to both of their faces despite things than have been said and done.
"I still can't believe you called my a sexiest pig that day." Tidus said while shaking his head and laughing.
"Just because a woman wears a skirt and heels doesn't mean she can't do a job well done." Yuna said.
"We really hit it off after that." Tidus said. "We've been unstoppable ever since."
"Till now." Yuna said and their smiles faded to frowns once again.
"Yuna, you can't leave." Tidus secretly begged from his heart. "Not after all we've been through."
Yuna saw that look pleading look that Tidus was giving her and she shook her head, standing up and taking a few steps forward." I can't, Tidus. I'm sorry." Tears swelled up in her eyes once again. "It's just too hard."
"Yuna, come on!" Tidus said, standing up and placing his hands upon the back of her shoulders. "You can't leave." Yuna slid away from his hands, moving away from him. "Why are you pushing me away?"
Yuna turned and faced him. "Don't you get it at all, Tidus? No matter how much I want you to hold me right now, I cannot stand for a man to touch me not alone even look at me. I feel like the garbage that lays in the back of a dump." She then signed. "Don't give me that pity look, Tidus. I don't want you to feel sorry for me."
"Then stop drowning in your own pity, Yuna." Tidus said and Yuna's eyes widened. "What happened to you was terrible, but you can't lock yourself inside your home and hide from the rest of the world." Yuna just looked at him, searching for the right words to say though finding none. He then eased towards her. "Get dressed."
"Why?" Yuna asked "It's almost 1 am."
"Because I am gonna take you out." Tidus said. Yuna opened her mouth to say something, but Tidus shook his head. "You're not getting out of this one. Now go get dressed." Yuna just raised her eye brows at him, placing her hands on her hips.
The lackey continued to swing back and forth and Reggie looked on in terror, for there was only one whom could have done such a thing in the dead of night and it go undetected till morning. Foot steps were heard approaching his cell. One step after the other they echoed down the silent hallway. And with each step that was taken, Reggie knew that he was one step closer to certain doom when suddenly Reggie was face to face with the dark hooded figure and he leaped back to the back of his cell.
"These bars will not protect you from me, Reggie." the man taunted.
"What do you want?" Reggie asked "I haven't told them who you are."
"But you thought about, didn't you, Reggie?" the man asked, grasping the cell bars. "The very thought entered your mind."
"Thinking it is one thing, but doing it is another" Reggie used as a counterattack.
The man shook his head. "All in all it's still the same to me."
"Did you come to kill me, too?" Reggie asked
"I'm not here to kill you. . . yet. . . Reggie." the man said "I have other plans for you. But, however, Neester hanging over there had it coming to him." He turned at looked at who was his top lackey. "He did the very thing I warned him not to do and let Qualm take the blame for it." He then looked back at Reggie. "He touched the woman I secretly desire to have."
"Why do you want that girl?" Reggie asked "You'll just use her and then when has served her purpose, you'll do her in just like the e ones before her."
The man shook his head. "No. There is something about her. Something so innocent and pure." He then sighed. "I can't place my finger on it."
"Well, Neester made sure that she lost her innocence a few nights ago." Reggie said.
"And in doing so, he lost his life." the man hissed. "And anyone who touches her will suffer the same fate."
"What of Tidus?" Reggie asked. "It's obvious that he has a thing for her."
"Hmm. He is a threat to me in more than one way then. He seeks to bring me down and yet steal my girl away in the process." the man said, taking a few steps forward.
"What are you going to do?" Reggie asked.
"Leave him to me." the man said and then left as silently as he appeared.
An hour later. . .
Tidus sat waiting patiently for Yuna to come out of her room. And at last the door opened. He looked on in excitement, however, frowned once he saw Yuna wearing baggy jeans and a grey sweat shirt and he shook his head. Yuna shrugged her shoulders, not understanding what the big deal was. Then suddenly, Rikku appeared behind Yuna, snarling her nose up at her outfit.
"Yunie!" Rikku squeaked and Yuna jumped. "That will not do at all!" She then forced Yuna back inside her room. "Get in there!" The door slammed shut and Tidus laughed when he heard Rikku say she was gonna call the fashion police on Yuna.
After waiting about another 30 mins, Yuna stepped out of her room looking like a totally different person. Her hair hung in spiral curls, parted in the middle with her bangs pinned back. She wore a blue velvet halter top with a plunging neckline and a diamond pendant resting at the bottom midst her chest, black too super low rise jeans with a diamond accented belt to match the pendent and black sandals with three inch heels and diamonds accenting the weaved straps on top. Her make up was flawless. All she needed was that pretty smile of hers to finish her look. She looked breathtaking and she surely took Tidus' breath away.
"Wow!" Tidus said, approaching Yuna. "You look. . . stunning."
Yuna smiled. "Let me get my purse and we'll get going." Tidus nodded his head and Yuna went to get her purse and that's when Rikku approached him.
"Thanks for doing this for her." Rikku said and Tidus turned towards her. "She doesn't want you to know this, but I thought you should know. Don't say I told you or she will kill me." Tidus nodded her head. "But for the last three says she has done nothing but cry. She thought that you hated her and blamed her for it happening. She wanted YOU and when you didn't show, she almost broke down. She laid on that bed and just cried herself to sleep. I am at my wits ends, Tidus. You may be her only hope if we want the Yunie back we both know and love. Don't push her any farther than she is willing to go tonight, ok? She is still very scared to even go to of this house. She hasn't slept for fear of them coming for her and the nightmares aren't helping matters much either. Why not see if she'll let you stay here tonight with her. Maybe she'll get some rest then."
Tidus' eyes went wide. "Are you nuts? If I asked her something like that she'd slap me into next year."
Rikku just giggled. "Well, take her to your place after your date is over."
"This isn't a date, Rikku." Tidus said offensively
"Sure it isn't" Rikku said.
"RIKKU!" Tidus said through clinched teeth.
"Whatever, Tidus!" Rikku said. "But we both know what you're up to." She then headed back for her room.
Twenty mins later. . .
Tidus and Yuna had arrived at a nearby club, which was the last place Yuna wanted to go, however, after much reconsidering from Tidus, she gave in and went inside with him. They pulled up a seat near the dance floor that was off to itself a bit. Yuna kept looking around and it was evident that she was very uncomfortable.
"Do you want something to drink?" Tidus asked and Yuna nodded her head. "Okay. Be right back." He got up and proceeded towards the counter when he felt someone latch onto his arm. He quickly looked. It was Yuna.
"Don't leave me alone." Yuna said through pleading eyes.
Tidus just smiled. "You're never alone, Yuna. Not as long as you have me. You'll never be alone."
They proceeded towards the counter where Tidus ordered up two mixed drinks for them. Yuna took a few sips of her drink, however, Tidus didn't, for he was too busy admiring Yuna. A slow song began to play, the lights were dimmed, giving off a romantic feeling. Tidus watched everyone getting together out on the dance floor and then looked at Yuna.
"Do you wanna dance?" Tidus asked. Yuna's eyes went wide and didn't answer him. "Come on." He took her drink, sitting it aside. He then took her by the hand and led her out on the dance floor. Sliding his hands around the small of her back, Tidus pulled Yuna very close to him. She instantly tensed up, placing her hands upon his well toned body and breathing nervously. "It's ok." he whispered. He looked into her mix matched eyes and saw the fear within. "Are you scared of me, Yuna?" Yuna didn't respond. "Yuna?"
"Let's dance, ok?" Yuna asked looking down at the floor. And with a nod of his head, their body's began to sway with the rhythm of the music.
After a few moments, Yuna began to relax. She found his touch soothing and even comforting. She rested her head upon his shoulder and they embraced fully. If anyone who didn't know them saw them at that very moment, one would assume that they were a couple deeply in love, which in secret, they were.
Just then, shots were fired. A woman screamed and everyone in the club began to panic. Tidus and Yuna broke from each other only to look and see the goons jump through the windows. With the glass shattering and scattering everywhere, they began to shoot up at the lights randomly, however, didn't shoot anyone.
"IT'S THEM!" Yuna cried out in fear.
"If they're here, then we know someone else isn't too far away." Tidus said. "Quick! Out the side door!" They began to fight their way through the hysteria of the crowd, exiting out the side door followed by several other people. Angered that her date had been ruined, Yuna withdrew her small hand gun and Tidus' eyes went wide. "You were carrying your gun?"
Yuna looked at Tidus after checking the ammo in her gun. "A lady is always prepared, Tidus. You should learn to take notes."
"Wha- -"Tidus trailed off.
"Go around the other side." Yuna said. "I'll check things out back here."
"Yuna, I don't think- -" Tidus began.
"Just do it, Tidus!" Yuna ordered and without a word spoken, she headed around the back of the building while Tidus headed down the front, towards the other side.
Quickly taking aim, while jumping out from the side, Yuna listened carefully for the slightest sound. All she heard was the sound of her own feet when suddenly she heard something behind her. She turned, took aim, though nothing was there. She then turned back around only to come face to face with a goon. Instead of firing, Yuna dropped her gun and stood there frozen with fear, for the guy she was looking at was the one that held her down while the others tried to have their way with her. However, before he could do anything at all to her, he was tackled to the ground from behind, punched in the face and knocked unconscious. Yuna quickly ran to him, throwing her arms around his neck.
"Thank goodness you came when you did." She waited for him to say or do something, however, nothing happened and she immediately pulled away from him. "Wait! You're not Tidus!" She immediately back away. "Who are you!"
Without a word spoken, the stranger whom she thought was Tidus, began to approach her.
