Hey, guys. The end is getting closer and closer and you can expect the suspense to rise with each chpt. And I thank everyone who has reviewed. With that said, on with the chpt.
Rikku was most certainly nervous. Her hands shook and the sweat dripped slowly from her brow. She took a nervous breath while she continued to work. Each move was more delicate than the next because all it took was one wrong move, just one slip and the entire place would go up. What Rikku's doing was extremely dangerous and she knew this, but it was a risk she was willing to take. She wiped the sweat the side of her face as she cautiously placed one wire of the other to connect it to the next, move this part to another and take another out. She continued to work while keeping an eye over her shoulder.
Few words were exchanged between Tidus, Yuna and Auron, for the dynamic duo were already on their way to Luca in search for Rikku. They had no idea where to go or what to do, but one thing they did know was that they had to save Rikku before it was too late.
Tidus raced down the road, swerving in, out and around other cars with Yuna yelling at him with every breath in her. She was totally scared out of her mind at that very moment. Never had she seen Tidus react this way.
"Tidus, slow down!" Yuna demanded.
"I'll slow down when I'm dead!" Tidus blurted out only to put the pedal to the metal, turned his sirens on, and speeded on down the road.
Rikku placed the bomb together as carefully as possible only to grab it up, run over to the nearest corner of the building and place it on the floor. She then observed her hand made remote to it, held it tightly and tried to escape the building, however, just as she ran around a corner she was tackled by a few goons that she quickly outwitted. There was one on front of her and one in the back. Rikku grinned only to run and fall to the floor, which allowed her to slide right between his legs. The puzzled goon looked down into his legs only to see an upside down Rikku give him a rude gesture with her middle finger. The other goon gave chase just as the other goon stood back up and they crashed into each other. Rikku laughed while she ran away. She ran up the stairs and only the metal stairway and just as she was about to reach the exit door, the door itself burst open, bounced off the back of the wall and nearly shut back, however, it just eased back open. Rikku felt her heart skip a beat when that happened as well. She placed her hand to her chest while she cautiously tried to look around the corner to see if anyone was standing there.
Tidus had made it out of Zanarkand in one piece and with Yuna's hair still in place, however, that was the least of her worries right now. All she wanted to do was to find her cousin and put an end to all of this once and for all. Tidus indeed felt the same way though it was more than personal with Tidus, for he wanted to take Rio on all by himself. The more he thought about everything that had happened the madder he got. He just got so angry that he grinded his teeth together and slammed his fist against the steering wheel which caused Yuna to gasp and jump from fright. Upon realizing this, Tidus looked at her only to caress her cheek.
"Hey, it's okay." Tidus assured her.
Yuna only gave him a calm smile while they gazed into each others' eyes. "Eyes on the road." she said only to guide his eyes back towards the road. "Not on me."
"But I'd rather look at you." Tidus flirted.
Yuna's smile quickly turned to a frown one a certain thought crossed her mind and she looked out the window. "You know, the boss is going to let one of us go." Tidus frowned at that thought as well, for he knew it was true. "The rule is that you can't get involved with your partner."
"I know." Tidus said.
"We made love to each other. . . and that certainly brings one of us up for termination if not both." Yuna continued. "And I don't want that to happen to either of us, but when that moment comes, I'll be the one to hand over my badge and gun."
"Yuna- -" Tidus began only to be interrupted by Yuna.
"My mind's made up, Tidus." Yuna stated firmly. "As long as I have you. . ." She reached over, placed her hand upon his and laced her fingers together with his own. "I don't need anything else." Tidus' heart skipped a beat when he heard that and he just squeezed Yuna's hand tightly.
The door creaked eerily as it swayed back at forth. Rikku could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She gulped only to reach out, grab the door and fly it open. She gasped and jumped back, expecting someone or something to try and grab her, however, there was no one there. She sighed in relief, stepped forth and eased her head around the corner of the doorway. Upon seeing that everything was clear, she stepped out of the abandoned building when she suddenly heard foot steps. Her eyes widened as she turned and saw a dark figure approaching her. She backed away slowly when the figure suddenly dashed at her. Rikku turned to run, however, tripped over her own two feet, which gave the figure just enough time to catch up with her. She scrambled to her feet and sprinted away, turning the corner only to come to a dead end. Rikku quickly looked around and saw a broken ladder nearby, jumped and grabbed onto it just as the figure made it around the corner. She squealed as the figure reached and tried to grab her ankle, however, got away just in time and climbed up onto the top of the building.
"Damn you!" the figure cursed and Rikku instantly knew who that was.
Rikku panted heavily. "Rio!" Rio then stepped into the light from the streetlights below.
"The one and only." Rio boasted.
Rikku just shook her head. "Your reign of terror ends here!"
"Oh, does it now?!" Rio asked.
Rikku held up the remote to the bomb high enough for Rio to see. "Goodbye, Rio!" Rio saw the switch, his eyes widened and mouth dropped open once Rikku pressed the button. She then dropped the remote and jumped from the top of the building.
"NO!" Rio shouted when suddenly the entire building erupted into flames.
