A desperate tenderness
In your hands & in your voice
As you held me tight
While I cried that fateful night
My parents were dead
You had lit their pyre
I should have hated you
But there was no point
Hate wouldn't bring them back
Nor give me working legs again
And seeing the anguish in your eyes
How could I hate you?
Dark eyes that burned with fire
When you promised to be my brother
So I'd never be alone again
I nodded, not knowing why
At first, it was a struggle
Yelling or talking, which did we do more?
In time we learned to love & to care
We became the other's redemption
