A/N: Hey! Alright... I will get around to finishing this thing... or continuing it or whatever. In fact I'm working on it right now. Woohoo. I may edit this first chapter, as I'm not completely satisfied. hmm... Anyway, I like feedback! cough cough. I don't care if it's negative as long as you back up your claims that something's not right or ooc with evidence or reason. yup!

Disclaimer: I just noticed I didn't have a disclaimer on this thing. I don't own FullMetal Alchemist. Don't sue me-- I don't understand the legal system.

They were sitting in silence, Edward was driving and Alphonse was trying unsuccessfully to sleep. Every time they hit a bump (which was often), Al was jerked awake rudely.

"Sorry Al," said Edward loudly, over the noise of the car and the road, and not really sounding that sorry. "We'll be off this bumpy road in about an hour."

Al sighed and sat up. They sat in silence for a little while longer, most likely both thinking of home. Both of them preferred not to speak of it out loud, Amestris occupied their thoughts often, and speaking of it didn't help any. But today, something tugged at the back of Al's mind, something he wanted to ask his brother about.

"Brother… do you… d'you think that there might be another way home? Besides that gate we went through, I mean."

Ed had thought about this a lot, despite attempts not to. Both brothers were here now, and Edward was determined to try to be happy here. But it still was such a tempting thought. Home… with Winry and Pinako and just… faces he knew, and places he was familiar with.

"I don't know," he said, keeping his eyes unnecessarily on the long, straight road.

Alphonse continued speaking, tentatively, "Because, I've been thinking about this, and I really think that there might be a way back. I mean, you got here differently. There didn't need to be an opening on both sides for you to get through."

"I was doing human transmutation, Al. It was equivalent exchange."

"No, I don't think it was," said Al, turning in his seat to gaze earnestly at Edward. "I got my body back, and you lived. Then we both came here, with no consequences to ourselves whatsoever!"

Edward smiled slightly, and turned to look at Al too. "Okay," he began, but then Al grabbed his head and forced him to look at the road. "Watch the road! Not me!"

"Okay, okay. So, I've been thinking about it a lot as well. And I agree; equivalent exchange doesn't make sense. So how do you think we should go about this 'getting home' thing?" said Ed, watching the road carefully now.

"Well, we're both prodigy state alchemists. That has to count for something. And maybe it would help if we researched what this world has to offer."

"I tried that. I don't think rockets or science are the way, Al."

"No, I mean, what if we try looking at the alchemy this world had studied centuries ago? They obviously didn't get anywhere but they might have been going somewhere."

"Okay. Good thing we're heading somewhere with a great library on that sort of thing."

"Oh, is that why we're going there? Brother! I thought you just wanted a break from city life!"

"Well, I actually wanted to check out some of the alchemy they have here. I didn't want to get your hopes up, Al. But it looks like it's already too late for that."

Al crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows. "You made me think I would have to convince you. Why did I get stuck with such a mean older brother?" Ed laughed and Alphonse uncrossed his arms and laughed with him. Al loved having his body back, but most of all, he loved having his brother back.

Food for thought: How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
