"Morning Maggie," I said politely, as I walked past her desk. She waved and pointed to the phone making a funny face. I grinned and kept walking on. I sat down at my desk and began shifting through the stack of papers in front of me. Just typical.
"Hi, Bella," Angela's timid voice came. I looked up and smiled at her. She was probably a bit scared of me after yesterday. I smiled at her and she brushed a strand of hair back behind her ear.
"Hey Angela. How are you?" I asked, my voice gentle. She shrugged and cast a look at my bandaged arm.
"How's your hand?" She asked softly. This time I shrugged, chuckling. She looked at me confused, and I realized I must have been a real piece of work yesterday.
"It okay doesn't really hurt. Ah, I should apologize about yesterday I was kind of a…bitch," I said, biting my bottom lip and squirmed in my seat, uncomfortable. She stared at me for a moment before bursting into laughter but quickly stopped and blushed a furious beetroot almost as red as mine, but not quiet that scarlet.
"No you weren't. I understand. Your hand and meeting Lauren and Jessica would put anyone in a bad mood," She smiled and twisted the silver band on her fourth finger.
"Who's the lucky guy," I asked politely, leaning foward onto my elbows. She got a far away look on her face and grinned
"His name is Ben. He just proposed to me last night," She gushed. I laughed as she placed her hand in mine and I examined it closely. A twinge of envy tugged at me but I quickly shook it off.
"Well congrats!" I said, smiling at her genuinely. She smiled and said goodbye quickly. A familiar vibration in my thigh made me pull out my cell and flick it open. Reading the message I rose an eyebrow in confusion before laughing softly. Trust Emmett. I had half the message finished when it was snatched from my grip.
"What the hell?" I snapped, at his grinning face. He looked at the message and coughed, obviously confused.
He quoted it.
"That's what she said,"
Hearing him say it was funnier than the message. I chocked back my laughter but ended up choking and turning a nasty red. Edward smirked before throwing it back onto the table and walking back into his office.
"Jerk," I said, grabbing a pen from my case. There was a slight shuffling inside his office before the door opened again.
"I heard that,"He chuckled softly and shut the door. I stared open mouthed at the door and a string of profanities escaped my mouth, this, I wish he had heard. But the door didn't open. Coward.
The day passed slowly. The occasional call that I had to call Edward out for but other than that I didn't speak or see him for the rest of the day. But my mind was flooding with him. His arrogant, smart assed comments and his annoyingly good looks. But mostly the fact that I had to hold my hand still because my hands twitched at my sides, needing to touch him.
"Good afternoon Alice what is it you need today?" Maggie asked. I sighed and played with the pen that I had given up on hours ago. I knew there was still plenty of ink but yet the stupid thing wouldn't write.
"Hey, Mags. Top of the morning to you," She laughed, her laughter tinkling. Maggie grunted and said something to her quietly.
"So how's the boss?" She asked deviously.
"Good. He got laid," Maggie smiled. Alice scowled and rolled her eyes. I laughed at their reaction. Obviously he had a fan club and a hate club. I wonder which one I belonged to?
"So how's the secretary? Another love sick teenager?" Alice whispered lowly but I still heard it. I scoffed lowly under my breath and cast a look at Edward door. It was agape a margin and a dark shadow was evident looming over it. I smiled to myself an idea forming. Edward must have seen because he slammed the door shut exiling himself once more to his room.
"Asswipe," I hissed, loud enough for him to hear. Hearing laughter at the other side of his door, I glowered.
"To be honest Alice, she's only been working here awhile and they're at it like cat and dog. She absolutely loathes him and he her, at least that's what it looks like. I don't know why but they do.... I love her!" She laughed and Alice joined in with her tinkling laughter.
I raised an eyebrow and shook my head. I didn't loath Edward. I just wished he didn't look at me like he had seen me naked. But loath was close enough to my relationship with him.
"Bella," Maggie's voice came clearing, laced with her Irish accent. I wasn't expecting to be called and jumped up in surprise, knocking my pile of unfinished work on the ground. I cussed under my breath before bending down and gathering them up. A pair of small, pale hands shot in front of me and helped me collect some of the documents.
"Thanks," I muttered, my cheeks tinted pink. She laughed and I looked up to see who had helped me. I stared in shock at her, she was stunning. Her face was gorgeous, perfect cheekbones, petite nose, full rosy lips, alabaster skin and a crop of black spiky hair. Her eyes were the most captivating thing though. Her green eyes shone like diamonds, so beautiful and perplexingly familiar.
"I'm Alice," She giggled, her voice musical. I shook my head and smiled at her.
"Bella," I smiled, trying to make up for my dorky gape at her. She stuck out her free hand and grasped my own.
"Sorry about Maggie. She can be quiet...abrupt at times," She said, rolling her eyes. I laughed awkwardly, not saying anything about my boss in case I was heard.
There was a thud inside Edward's office and a cuss. Alice rolled her eyes and got up. I followed her lead and left the pile of documents far in on the desk as did Alice.
"Edward Cullen, do you really think me so dense," She sang, her voice accusing. I watched, confused as Edward came out of his office, hands up and a sheepish look on his face.
"Hey, Ali," He said softly, talking to her as if they were old friends. I cocked my head to the side as Alice sat on the corner of my desk and not until then did I notice how small she was. Her feet hung in mid-air.
"So, how's work going?" She asked, casting a look at me. I looked between the two with a risen eyebrow.
"You know him, Alice?" I asked, horrorstricken. Alice nodded and held up both hands.
"Don't hold it against me, Bella," She laughed. I sighed, and laughed once without humor.
"I'll try," I said sourly. Edward looked at the both of us and then glowered at me.
"Already on first name terms. Fabulous," Edward muttered dryly. Alice scoffed and I glared, out of habit.
"So how do you know each other?" I asked, genuinely confused that Alice, who I had only known for two minutes, was related to Edward. Edward rolled his eyes and pointed to Alice then back to himself.
"Pixie, is my big sister," He grumbled. Alice beamed and I stumbled backwards in shock. Edward's hands shot out and caught me before I fell backwards. He steadied me, and let me go but not before Alice told him to, oddly I didn't mind. Ugh.
"I guess that was pretty stupid of me," I laughed, my voice breaking. Alice smiled and Edward shrugged looking intently at the ground. Two hands wound around my face and covered my eyes.
"Guess who?" The gruff voice came. I smiled and pivoted, smacking the big oaf in the stomach.
"Aw, Bells," Emmett groaned, wincing in pain. I smiled up at him angelically and grabbed his big hand, towing him over to the others.
"Em, this is Alice and this is Edward, my boss," I introduced them, ignoring the death glares Emmett was sending Edward, who was looking sullen.
"Nice to meet you Alice," He boomed. Alice smiled, her eyes twinkling with fun.
"Same. You guys make such a cute couple," I coughed on that and Emmett's eyes widened.
"We're not together. She's my best friend," He shouted, unaware he was in a quiet place, for working. I stamped on his foot and raised a finger to my lips.
Edward looked at us sourly.
"You seemed pretty cozy the other night," He retorted. I glowered at him, resisting the urge to stick out my tongue. Edward looked at me unbothered by my look.
"Even if we were going out, which, were not, it isn't any of your business," I hissed, dropping Emmett's hand and standing closer to Edward. He bended over and clenched his jaw.
"I'm your boss, I'm just looking out for my employee," He sighed, exasperated. I went on the ball of my feet to make myself taller.
"Don't," There was a pregnant silence. Me, glowering at Edward and him, staring blandly back. Someone coughed behind me and I stepped away.
"I'm going home," I said, blunt. I waved to Alice and gave one last glace to Edward. Something turned in my stomach and I had the urge to say sorry but without a doubt decided not to. I walked quickly towards the elevator, Emmett at my side. I caught the elevator, with no one inside, thankfully, and leaned against the back.

I sung. Emmett looked at me oddly. I shrunk into the corner away in embarrassment. Since when did I sing in front of people?
"What are you? Mary Poppins?" He scoffed. I laughed and shook my head, but disturbingly I couldn't shake the image of Edward, which worse I didn't want to. Ugh, infuriating man.
