There was voices floating around my head, a throbbing sensation at the back of my eyes which, I believed caused the ear splitting headache. There smell of expensive perfume tingled my nose and I repressed a sneeze.
"Calm down, Edward. Carlisle said she'll be okay now tell me why did she bump into a door," Alice demanded and at her words my breathing picked up slightly. Edward was here?
I creaked an eyelid open and watched as Edward and Alice stood at the doorway of a large room that was defiantly not mine. Big brown leather couches were pushed against the walls either side of the bed, large windows were placed above them, open making the windows around them whip up in the air. The walls were covered in a dark cream, that set of the brown furniture. A wooden wardrobe that seemed bigger than my room was pushed into a corner.
"Look she walked into the door, she wasn't looking where she was going," He said quietly in his velvet voice. And that's when the reason of my presence on this bed drifted back to me and without permission I blushed.
"And why was that? Were you two fighting again?" Alice pursing her cherry lips, watching as Edward turned a delicate pink. My breathing caught in my chest. Was he going to tell her?
"Well she may have been distracted by, um...," He was broken of roughly as I rolled out of bed, landing with a thud. I groaned and shook my head, clearing away the stars that were swirling around my head.
"I'm awake," I grunted grabbing onto the side dresser and tried to pull myself up. Two hands slipped under my arms and I was literally swept off of my feet as Edward stared down at me, watching my face scrutinizing.
"Are you okay? You took quiet a hard bang," he said, biting down on his bottom lip stopping the smirk. I growled and nodded, ignoring the growing pain behind my eyes, watching as his emerald lake studied me further with a worried expression. Alice popped up behind his shoulder, watching as we stared at each other, her eyes narrowed.
"Aspirin, Bella?" She said holding up a glass of water and two tablets in her other hand. I broke the contact from Edward and smiled sheepishly at her, turning scarlet. Edward chuckled and scowled back up at him.
"Put her down, lover boy," she snapped irritably and Edward rolled his eyes, leaving me back on the bed gently. Lover boy? I thanked Alice as she handed me the tablets, which I threw into my mouth and swallowed, reaching out and sipping some of the water.
"Where am I?" I asked casually, casting a glance around the room. Alice sat on the couch across and Edward sat at the foot of the bed, looking down at his lap where his fingers were entwined.
"Our house. I mean our parents house, Dad's a doctor and Edward insisted. We didn't know were you lived and I don't have your boyfriend number," Alice said smiling. I squinted at her through thick eyelashes and scoffed.
"I don't have a boyfriend," I muttered sheepishly. Alice rolled her eyes and Edward seemed to now be fully taken up by his hands, scowling down at them. I rubbed my back of my hand across my eyes, itching to scratch the pain.
"No really,"But my poor attempt for the truth was cut off as two people gracefully glided into the bedroom, one male the other female. The male was tall but smaller than Edward, his features were well defined and well angled with a straight nose and perfect cheekbones. His honey blond hair was slickly brushed back and he smiled at me, showing his glistening teeth.
The woman was smaller than Rosalie but taller than Alice. Her face was heart-shaped and rounder than the other. Her fully crimson lips were drawn up in a heart breaking smile. Her brown eye danced with delight and her brown hair fell to her shoulder in beautiful loose brown curls. Both were dressed in casual attire and defiantly no more than thirty two.
"Oh, Bella your awake," the woman said softly as the doctor came to my side swiftly while she stayed by the bottom of the bed.
"Uh, Bella this is Esme, our adoptive mother and Carlisle is our adoptive father," Edward said gesturing to each of them. I smiled politely as Carlisle smiled down at me.
"Nice to meet you Bella. How are you feeling?" Carlisle asked, concerned. I laughed jaggedly, and hastily shook my head, feeling queasy at the motion.
"Fine, fine. It doesn't even really hurt honestly. I'm such a klutz," I said with an uneasy laugh as Edward coughed nosily, obviously covering a laugh. I pursed my lips angrily.
"Manners," Esme snapped quickly. Edward stopped abruptly, heat raising to his cheeks as he glowered down at his fingers.
"Sorry, mom," he murmured coyly. I felt my jaw go slack as Carlisle asked Alice dubiously about the door. She nodded her head and grinned, shooting me an apologetic look, which I didn't even register as I watched as Esme roll her beautiful brown eyes and crack a smile at Edwards arrogance
"Not me, Edward," She said tilting her head towards me. I watched as his head raised slowly and turned to look at me glaringly. I pushed my lips out and swiftly turned to look out the window, heat rising to my face.
"I'm sorry.....Bella," He scowled sourly and I realized he wasn't a person for being told what to do by anyone but it seemed Esme had him pretty damn whipped. Momma's boy.
I snickered violently under my breath and smiled tauntingly at him before smiling at Esme innocently, who apologized for Edward generously. I shook my head dismissively. Carlisle smiled and asked me whether I had taken an Aspirin, which Alice replied I had and with a polite goodbye he excused himself back off to work.
"You'll have to excuse me. I also must dash off. Work," Esme exclaimed, walking over and bending down to give my hand a small squeeze and I smiled back at her, genuinely upset she had to leave.
"Thank you very much, Esme and do tell Carlisle I thoroughly appreciate him coming to see me," I said quietly and she winked, kissing her children goodbye before leaving.
"Bye," I called clearly, while she briskly exited. My head snapped over to Edward and as impulse my eyes narrowed into dangerous, narrow slits, my mouth turning down into a prompt grimace.
"You called your dad," I snapped, glaring at Edward. He sighed, running a hand through his auburn locks. Alice watched me and then her head swiveled to see Edward response.
"So?" He retorted haughtily. Alice rose an eyebrow and turned to watch as I answered in a demanding voice.
"So? So?! Why?" A pucker appeared between Alice's eyes and she turned to watch Edward sigh indignantly, pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and middle finger.
"As you seemed to have forgotten, Bella. I am your boss. It's in my own interest that I make sure you are okay. You know, brain damage, swelling, amnesia, which I think Carlisle may have missed," He said dourly, shrugging his shoulders.
"But why did you bring her here," Alice input theatrically, turning to meet Edward's glare. She stood up and leaned against the bed post, her tiny physique scrunching over.
He rolled his eyes disconcerting.
"Dad's the best at what he does. I wanted you to have the best," He said while kicking Alice's leg, shaking his head warningly. She grinned and opened her mouth to ask another question but I broke across her briskly.
"Why?" I queried lowly, watching him curiously as he rolled his shoulders, blinking twice and smirking wryly.
"I may be rich and respected but a law suit from a employee, who stupidly was to taken up with me rather than looking out for the door, would damage my reputation," he said casually.
Alice glared at her brother and bit her lip. I stared coldly at him, holding back the string of profanities threatening to escape at the self accusation. What did he think I was? A money grabbing whore? Though I should have shrugged of his allegation I couldn't help the coldness seeping into my veins. Did I give of that impression?
I adverted my gaze, hating the moisture gather dangerously in my eyes. Both from anger and sadness from where nice Edward and mean Edward quickly changed places and from the cruel prosecution.
"Mother fucker," Alice snarled under her breath, slapping her brother over the head roughly. He sighed as he watched her saunter over to my side and sit at my head, obvious who she was siding with.
" Well, get well soon Bella. I expect you in on Monday. Goodbye Ali," he murmured with a reluctant stare before raising fluidly to his feet and scattering out the door.
"I'm sorry for him. he didn't mean it," she said apologetically. I wiped a hand across my eyes and made a strange noise at the back of my throat as I nodded.
She bashed him for a few minutes, trying to make me chuckle and to humor her I gave two or three really fake ones. She then started on about her job and then she offered to make some dinner. I volunteered to help but she scoffed, skipping out of the room.
I didn't enjoy the feeling of loneness even if Alice was just in the next room nor the feeling of sickness at Edward's statement now and I was alone with no one to preoccupy myself with I felt suddenly overwhelmed.
I reached into my jean pocket and withdrew a small silver cell phone. I flipped it open and quickly dialed the only person who I could think of. They only took two rings to pick up.
"Bella? Where the hell are you? I'm at your work with Rose and Emmett. Dinner tonight, remember?" Jasper said worriedly. Hearing his voice, laced with anxiety I suddenly felt terrible. I should have rang.
"I'm sorry, Jas," I said, my voice jagged just above a whisper. I heard a sharp intake of breath on the other side.
"What's wrong," he demanded and I sighed. I heard a dish clatter in the kitchen and was at my feet quickly but Alice quickly yelled that she was fine.
"Is that Alice? Where are you Bella," I sighed and looked out the marginally wide window and caught a glimpse of a sign post out on the street.
"Twenty third on main. I had a bit of a bit of a fall and Edward brought me to his dad's house, he's a doctor, to get checked out and then we had a....spat," I sighed and then I heard Rosalie in the background.
"Bella, what did he say," he said calmly.
"Nothing. Just, implied some things," There was a silence and I hoped he had dropped the subject and then I heard low mumbling and a feminine hiss.
"What did he say, Bella," Rosalie shouted in the background and I sighed, wishing I had just kept my mouth shut.
"Nothing," I snapped irritably.
"Fine. If you won't tell me. I'll just ask him myself, cause you know what, this guy is annoyingly causing me and mostly you aggravation. It's damn well time I talk to him," Jasper said menacingly and before I could plea with him he hung up. I slammed the cell on the table, cursing my friends bitterly. Alice popped up in the doorway waving, looking frazzled.
"Okay we have...day old microwave able curry or week old casserole. Both fully equipped with out of date goodness. We usually go out," She smiled waving them in the air. If I wasn't so edgy about Jasper I would have laughed and taught her to cook. Without out of date goodness. Yuck.
"Alice do you have a car?" I asked, my voice wavering as I grabbed my coat from the chair. She sighed sadly shaking her head.
"I had one but it got towed, I was shopping and forgot the time and I really want this new yellow...," I interrupted curtly, smiling apologetically as I did so.
"Alice. My friends, they get really...pissy when I get upset and, um, kind of aggressive, especially Rose, and I rang Jasper when you were in the kitchen and they're at my work place, waiting for Edward to ..'talk'. What's his number," I said in a rush, whipping out my phone again.
She stared at me blankly for a moment and bit her bottom lip and shrugged. I watched her for a moment and contemplated shaking her. I really liked Alice, already I felt really close to her, but, gee, did I want to smack her silly right now.
I dialed Jasper but he cancelled me and then Rose and Emmett who had coincidentally turned their phones of too. I cried, panicked and turned to Alice.
" A taxi will take to long..," I murmured to myself. "Do you have any form of transport?" I asked. She nodded dubiously, dropped the out of date food on the bed, grabbed my hand and towed my through the hall and out into the garage where in the corner, covered by a blanket of ominous darkness lay two small glittery scooters with curled strings coming from the sides of the handlebars.
"So, are you sure a taxi won't suffice?" She said, throwing one leg over and grabbing the handlebars, throwing up her hood, secluding her appearance as she leaned over and pressed the garage door button on the wall.
I wanted to shake my head, to laugh and head back into the house but I knew my friends, more accurately I knew Rose and even though I had let my mouth run to Jasper, I didn't want Edward to be hurt...Maybe a small bit wouldn't hurt him but I would let him be hurt because of me.
I sucked in a deep breath and nodded, throwing my left leg over my the side and twisting the key in the ignition, kicking myself off at the same time as Alice and I suddenly appreciated all the times I spent in La Push with Jacob.
Alice beamed, her eyes tinted with worry for her brother and we immerged into the sunshine.
"Scoot, scoot," Alice screamed at three children playing with dolls on the pavement and I seriously hoped with some determination that I could get to him before Rose and the others got to him.
There we go! I like this chapter oddly, not really funny but you gotta love Alice on a Barbie scooter shouting scoot, scoot...Priceless...I am back to Mean Edward..He's a moody guy ain't he?Anyways will they get to Edward before the others see him, hmm?? Please Review!!
