Chapter 8—You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground, I'll Be The Wings That Keep Your Heart In The Clouds
Harry vaguely remembered reading a book over the summer. About a girl whose heart had been broken but then had found a new love. The girl described the hole that had been left in her heart, not repaired by the new loved, but filled. Old wounds were hard to fix, but they could be filled in by something new, something that makes the pain a little easier to deal with every day. As of now, Harry felt as if that hole was in the process of being filled. It didn't make him miss Blaise any less. It didn't make him hate Blaise any less for the things he did. And it couldn't make him forget Draco. But every day, Harry was finding something new to make it better.
Begrudgingly, Harry knew that a large part of that hole filling was due to Seamus. He had began to spend more and more time with him in the past weeks, and without him, Harry knew he'd have been in the state he'd been in a few months ago. Harry also knew that Seamus' intentions weren't 100 percent pure. That he wanted to be more than friends with Harry. This bit of dishonesty Harry could handle. He found it flattering. It also comforted him to know that Seamus would never hurt him in the way that Blaise had, they'd been mates too long for that.
It was a warm afternoon in April when Harry and Seamus were sitting with Ron, Hermione, and Ginny by the lake when everything changed. For once, change didn't seem so bad.
"Do you know why we're here?" Seamus asked them, eyes twinkling, but still attempting to hold onto some amount of seriousness.
"Because there are no classes," Ron said, sighing contently and stretching like a cat back on the grass.
"That's a good enough reason, but no." Seamus continued,
"Because it's April and gorgeous out?" Ginny said,
"Good guess, but no, not that either," Seamus then leaned forward away from Harry and towards Ron, Hermione, and Ginny whispering to them while keeping a large hand pressed against Harry's chest keeping him away.
Hermione and Ginny made "awww" noises that made Harry's stomach churn girls he thought to himself, while Ron gave Seamus a skeptical look, before nodding in agreement.
"We are here Harry, because now that I've got the permission of your best mates, we're going out tomorrow."
Harry cocked an eyebrow.
"We're doing what?"
"You, me, dinner, I walk you back to the dorm, that whole shindig, you and I."
"What if I don't want to?"
"Harry!" Hermione yelled, swatting hit across the top of his head. "Don't be an arse."
"He can't just assume I'm gonna go out with him 'Mione, what if I'm busy?"
At this Ginny snorted, "you? Busy doing what exactly?"
Harry mumbled something about homework before dropping his head in defeat.
"Fine," He said sighing heavily.
"Don't be too excited Har," Seamus said sarcastically, but he was beaming.
Tomorrow came too quickly for Harry's liking. 6:15 came and Harry was standing shirtless in front of a mirror in the boy's dormitory, appearing to be baffled by his own expression. He was transfixed to the point where he didn't notice Hermione come up behind him and say,
"So. Is that what you're wearing then?" She joked, nodding to his named torso.
Harry scowled, "And what is it was?I don't even know why I'm going it's just some stupid date that I don't want to go on."
"Please Harry, stop fooling yourself, you hang out with Seamus nowadays more than you hang out with Ron and I. You can't honestly tell me that you're not the least bit interested in going out with him."
" I just don't think I can go through with this again." Harry sighed, "this looking for something special in someone, thinking you've found it only to have it ripped out from under you." Harry rarely discussed Blaise with Ron and Hermione, they knew better than to bring it up. "I mean you look, and either you get hurt or someone hurts you and sooner or later you either settle for someone that's JUST good enough for you, or you die. I just don't think I can handle being hurt that way over and over again for the rest of my life. Not to be melodramatic over a guy, but he really hurt me."
"One date, Harry. Not a lifelong commitment. Wear this shirt; it will match your eyes." Hermione said before wrapping her arms around Harry and hugging him tightly.
Harry walked hesitantly into the entrance hall of Hogwarts, whilst chewing on his nails green eyes darting around looking for Seamus. He found him standing off to the side of the room near the hourglasses hands in his pockets, rocking back and forth and the balls of his feet. He turned and noticed Harry approaching him and grinned, Harry had to admit begrudgingly that Seamus really was cute. When Harry got to him, Seamus held out his hand frown lines creasing as he saw Harry's hands shoved firmly in his pockets.
"I won't bite unless you ask me too," Seamus said grinning cheekily.
Harry tried to stop himself from thinking that Blaise had said the same thing when they first became friends. Harry slowly pulled his hand out of his pants and placed it in Seamus'. The frown lines on Seamus' face immediately were wiped away and he happily pulled Harry out of the castle and down towards Hogsmeade.
It was when Seamus was in the middle of a story involving walking in on Neville trying to learn how to operate a muggle hair straightener, Harry at this point in the story had tears streaming down his face when he looked up for a second and saw Draco Malfoy sitting two tables behind them, gray eyes locked on him. Harry froze, all signs of laughter had been wiped away from his face and he was now glaring behind Seamus right shoulder at Malfoy.
"Harry, what's wrong you look like you've just seen a ghost" Seamus said as he turned around to look at Malfoy, "It's just Draco don't let it get to you."
Harry mumbled something about needed the loo, before standing up grabbing Malfoy by his shirt collar and dragging him to a dark corner of the restaurant.
"Why are you watching me?" Harry hissed, finally releasing his grip on Draco's shirt collar.
"Why Harry," Draco purred, "If you wanted some alone time, all you had to was ask."
Harry shoved at Draco'schest distancing themselves further, "don't act like I don't see you wathing me, you mde you're bed now lie in it and leave me alone."
"Harry," Draco pleaded, he grabbed Harry's wrist whirled him around and smashed their lips together. Harry instinctively wrapped his arms around Draco's neck and pulled them closer. After a few seconds however, he came to his senses and pushed him away. He reached up and slapped Draco across the face.
"We went through this before Draco, and we'll go through it again. You're messed up. I know it's hard for you to think beyond your own nose, but you REALLY hurt me. You never really apologized for it and you can't take it back. Even if you apologized now, it's too little too late. I'm over whatever I felt for you, and I don't what to be spoken to by you or any of your stupid lackeys. Including Blaise. I feel nothing for you and you need to stay away from me."
Harry turned to leave and took a step when Draco whirled him around and whispered in his ear, "If you feel nothing for me then why did you kiss me back?"
Harry pushed him away, and stormed back towards Seamus.
"You're sure you're all right?" Seamus asked for what felt like the umpteenth time.
"I'm fine," Harry assured him putting on a strained smile, "Just Malfoy's usual bullshit, 'your parents are dead' and all of that nonsense, I don't want to talk about it."
They had begun to walk back through Hogsmeade when Harry felt it. Training with Dumbledore made him aware of when he was being watched. He turned around and saw Draco watching him, Harry smirked. Not so subtly he grabbed Seamus' waist mashing their hips together and started whispering in his ear. He ended it with a seemingly innocent kiss on the cheek.
Laughing, Harry watched as Draco made an audible exit out of Hogsmeade. However, Seamus did not look so pleased to see that Harry was using him. The look in his eyes betrayed his voice as he tried to keep steady.
"You're not just using me are you?" Seamus asked, his eyes filled with hurt. "You're above that shit Malfoy and Zabini pull."
"Shay, I really like you, it's not just because I'm angry with him." Harry said earnestly. "I just loved showing my new boyfriend?" Harry questioned, "off to everyone in Hogsmeade"
"Ay, boyfriends are we then?" Seamus said looking at his shoes and blushing up to his ears.
"Boyfriends." Harry said, and with closure he grabbed the collar of Seamus' shirt and brought him down to eye level, kissing him softly. It wasn't a long or intense kiss. Sweet and new, hesitant as they both tested the new feeling. It was almost as if the scene with Malfoy in the back of the restaurant had never happened.
Almost.

So some of you might have noticed, then again some of you might have not that there was no quote in the beginning of the chapter just a title. For those of you who didn't notice it's cool, I said it earlier the quotes are more for me than they are for you (I would recommend checking the songs out though, it really is great music). Anyways the title of this chapter is actually the name of a song by Mayday Parade, the lyrics in the song itself don't actually fit the theme of the story, maybe later it will because its kind of an angsty breakup-ish song. Anyways I felt the need to use the song for this chapter because I don't know about you guys but for me the song title is actually one of the most beautiful combinations of lyrics/words/prose that I've ever heard.
You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground, I'll Be The Wings That Keep Your Heart In The Clouds.
The title just holds such an amount of beauty that I think in one sentence can describe love. Like a partnership, it's a give and take. If you'll be the anchor that keeps my feet on the ground I'll be the wings that keep your heart in the clouds. It describes so well what this story is about. How love is work, a balance, and how when one person works harder than the other the balance fails. However when two people work equally love is a beautiful thing. That's what the song says to me. While not to pat myself on the back, I do see an amount of beauty and thought about love in this story, but theres also a lot of sick manipulation, hence the lyrics at the end of this chapter. Anyways, sorry for the rant.
I REALLY hope you guys liked this chapter. I love all the support I've been getting for TGWP
