Sometimes, he wished his friends weren't such good friends. If it weren't for the gang (as in Yuugi & Friends, not the idiot preschool gang he'd been a part of), he probably would have dropped out of school. Not that he wanted to jump headfirst back into the life of a miscreant, but he was sore tired of sitting in a classroom listening to someone drone on about how important learning about square roots was. In a few of his classes, he had a girl sitting in front of him. Which generally pacified him (he stared very closely, just in case there was a random panty shot. He didn't want to miss it.). But it was hard to take this hum-drum life day-in-day-out. It was boring him to tears.

So he'd called Anzu to tell her he was sick today, and just skipped. He reasoned that one day wasn't going to kill him, and Anzu would tell everyone he was at home, so no one would worry. He was free, at least for a couple hours, as long as no law enforcement caught wind of him. Doing something against the rules like this always made him feel more alive – which was probably why he'd joined that gang in the first place. The problem was he was always getting in trouble for it, which totally killed the buzz. So he'd have to do it again.

He sorta felt bad for ditching his friends -- they were always together, it seemed. But for once, he wanted to strike out on his own. He'd been out on the town for maybe, a good two hours when he decided to stop for a snack. Jou wasn't the only one with an enormous appetite, but he at least kept it in better check.

He'd gotten a snowcone, the girliest snack he could think of, looking back, with blueberry flavoring. He still had that childish habit of licking coloured things to make his tongue change color. He was enjoying his treat when he felt a hand on his shoulder, and the 'Oh, shit.' thought echoed in his mind. He glanced to the side and saw a cop glowering at him, and he dropped the snow cone, giving up the meek explanation of, "I'm sick?"

When the cop hand-delivered him to his classroom and he sulked into his seat, Anzu looked over at him, looking amused and annoyed all at once. "I see you're feeling better." She whispered to him, and he rolled his eyes. What a great time for Anzu to develop a sense of humor.
