A/N: An idea that I've had in my head for a while, I just had to write and post.

Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Born Lucky

A Princess. A Prodigy.

Was that really what she was?

She did what was expected of her. It was in her blood. She was supposed to act as though her heart was made of coal.

Oh no, wait; she did not have a heart. And after a while, it was no longer an act.

She did what was expected of her. And she didn't mind that. She didn't mind that at all.

She was the model Fire Nation Princess, cruel, strong…just like her father. Like father like daughter they should say, or the apple does not fall far from the tree.

She was the apple of the Fire Lord's eye.

She was the best, an elite, a prodigy. A wonder of the entire nation. Of the world.

Or she would be.

But she still was not good enough. It was his destiny. Not hers.

She would have to change that.

She wanted it so much that she could not stand it, could not stand it when it was all for him. Her weak, pathetic, unworthy brother. He had it all.

She had to be content with second place.

Bah! She had surpassed firebenders three times her age when she was six and had earned the rank of master before she had turned thirteen! Whereas he still struggled with the basics.

He was not worth the throne, the country, or the love of uncle…or mother…

She was superior.

She was unstoppable, invincible.

She was the true fire incarnate. She was fire. She was the one who had really earned it; she was the one who deserved the honor of being heir to the throne. Not him. Never him.

But then why could she not have what he had?

Her hands balled into fists and she glared at the ocean. It spread out towards the horizon from the capitol's harbour, meeting the setting sun as it cast its reflection over the water. Turning it yellow and orange. Turning it red.

That was why she had smiled when her father had scarred him.

And that was why she was going after him: to kill him, torture him, take it all away.

After all, she had been born lucky.

OoO

A/N: Very short little oneshot, I know, but I hope you liked.
