A young woman pulled up in her small purple spark, chocked it into park and turned the car off. She sat there for a moment before she rummaged through her purse. Once she found what she was looking for, she pulled it out. The squared white envelope only contained her name in black cursive.

Amber Wright

It had been a long 50 years since she had heard that name. Memories pulled her back for a moment.

Amber!

My Love.

The sound of a gunshot and a scream.

Amber shook her head to pull herself back into the present. It was no longer 1972…it's 2023. Fresh into the new year. She opened the envelope and pulled out a letter. The letter itself was embellished with black scribe around the edges. Tilting the paper revealed gold letters transitioning to black. An icon with "Metropolitan Public Library" glittered at the top before it continued to the rest of the paper.

You have been invited to confer with the caretaker of Metropolitan Public Library.

When she had first gotten this letter only a month ago, she had at first been alarmed. But when the contents had been revealed, relief had rushed over her. She had an excuse to finally leave her temporary abode. She also knew what this letter meant. It meant her past was coming back, maybe with answers. Within a week, she quit her job at a local grocery store, packed up what she owned into her small car, and left behind a letter and six months' worth of rent money for her roommate so she wouldn't have to worry about anything while looking for another roommate.

She set the letter down in her lap and then looked out the passenger side window from her seat. She was confused but didn't really question it when the stone building had first appeared. It really didn't look like a library. On either side of the door has a large circular stone-type adornment on the walls. It did match the little icon on her letter.

After just a moment of looking at the little building, she put the letter away and got herself out of the car. She slung her purse over her head and locked her car door, the letter still in her hand. She walked around the car and followed up the pathway towards the door. The closer she got to the building, the bigger it seemed to get. She stopped at the door and took a deep breath, then knocked on the door and waited.
