First Sight - September 1991
Ginny stayed beside her mother, trying to hold back tears. All her brothers were leaving her. She still couldn't understand why she couldn't go to Hogwarts with Ron. Her mum was always saying how mature she was for her age. Mature enough for Hogwarts, surely.
A loud train whistle made Ginny jump. They were halfway to the platform, Percy leading the way through King's Cross Station. He'd been such a prat all summer. After receiving his prefect badge… needless to say, Ginny was all right with a little space from him. But she would miss all her brothers because they were all leaving her! Ginny hated being left behind!
Molly gave her hand a light squeeze, drawing Ginny's attention. Her mother's smile was understanding as they moved around a hurried man in a muggle suit. "It's only one year, dear. Next year, you'll be having the best time."
Ginny wanted to argue with her, but as she opened her mouth, Molly's attention was pulled away by her sons entering the platform. It was the same thing every year: Check for Muggles, then pass through the barrier. Ginny had seen it enough times, done it enough times, to feel slightly bored by the process. So instead of focusing on her brothers, Ginny's attention drifted around to look at the other travelers.
She loved the way men in suits bustled around, not taking in their surroundings. How mothers hugged children before hopping aboard their train. And then there were the people waiting waiters. The people standing around tapping their feet to made-up songs. But one person, in particular, drew Ginny's attention.
She didn't know what it was about the boy that made her eyes land on him. His oversized clothing and small frame made him look so young but sweet. Maybe it was the wild black hair or the taped glasses. But what she knew for a fact though that his eyes held her attention.
They were bright green but with tinges of darkness that made them so unique. His eyes were wide and curious he watched her family while she watched him. His cart held a large trunk and owl and so it was obvious he was going to Hogwarts, but what wasn't clear was why he was alone. Where were his parents?
It wasn't until after her brothers said his name that it all made sense to her. Harry Potter was easily one of the cutest boys she'd ever seen. But there was something more to him that she'd seen in the one brief moment that made her all the more interested in him.
