Chapter 1: The Grand Arrival

The air was warm and salty as the ocean waves crashed gently into the boat as it moved closer to the pier of Luca. People were gathering for the game of blitzball, it was the only time people could forget of the chaos and sadness caused by a monster known as Sin. Summoners trained and visited the temples in Spira to gain the aeons. Once a summoner reaches the city dead for a thousand years, destroyed by Sin known as Zanarkand, they'd call forth the Final Aeon and defeat Sin. For a temporary period of time, the people of Spira can rest easy in their beds knowing that they are safe. A petite blonde haired female named Kya, standing at the railing was only five years old at the time of her parent's death due to Sin. She was eight when Sin was defeated and when her uncle went missing. Her childhood memories have been in a blur since. Somehow, she met half-guado, Seymour and have been living with him since.

Ten years later, she never imagined she'll be traveling with a maester or even the leader of Spira, Maseter Mika. Finding herself lost in those thoughts, she took a deep breath and looked out into the ocean where the horizon was soon greeted by the city of Luca. Among of it all, she could see the blitzball stadium but she knew she must contain her excitement as she was now a High Priestess but deep down, she wasn't sure if it was in her heart. "Lady Kya." A gentle voice brings her back from her scattered thoughts, turning around she smiles at Seymour. Flipping her hair, she scoffed. "Lady? Please don't be so formal, Mister Seymour." She says with a tease, causing Seymour to frown. "My apologies but you must keep your focus on your chosen path. Don't let the excitement of this game distract you from your goal, understand?"

Kya sighs, feeling disappointed in Seymour for reminding her that she was no longer able to be herself. Kya returned her attention back toward Luca and noticed the crowd gathering at the dock. "Yes, I understand." Kya replies. This seems to please Seymour as he nods before walking away. "I also understand that I have to die of boredom." She mumbles before deciding to join the others for the grand arrival. Kya wanted to put her blonde hair into a ponytail and tear off the formal dress that she was forced to wear because it was 'appropriate' for a High Priestess. No more sword fighting, no more cursing or throwing punches at those who made her mad. No more being herself. She felt her stomach tie into knots as the boat approached the dock, squeezing her fists she took a deep breath. Kya was going to be introduced as High Priestess along with Seymour who recently received the title of Maester. Her duty was to protect the people of Spira and offer guidance to traveling summoners that were going to defeat Sin. Kya felt as if the title shouldn't have been offered to her but as Kinoc reminded her, it would have made her family proud. It was in her blood. Kya hadn't been so sure of what that meant but she never asked either. She wanted to turn to Seymour to know what to do next as the boat was docked but instead he walked down the ramp not acknowledging her. Following behind him like a lost child, she turned to bow as the crowd followed.

Kya hadn't been paying much attention until she heard Maester Mika introduce Seymour as a new Maester of Yevon and Kya the High Priestess of Yevon. Turning around to face the crowd, she could tell the audience wasn't sure about the announcement of a High Priestess. However, in the distance she thought she saw a familiar face but she shook her head. No, he died ten years ago. He wouldn't have disappeared without a trace like that. "Kya, pay attention!" Seymour whispered loud enough for her to snap back into reality. She had spaced out again. Bowing once more, she followed the Maesters to where they would be watching the game. "Kya, you are a High Priestess now. You can not be staring off into the distance like that. Haven't you learned?" Seymour scolded her in his usual gentle tone but she could sense he was growing impatient with her. "Sorry, I just thought." Kya paused for a second then shook her head. "Never mind."

"Thought what, Lady Kya?" Kinoc, who was walking ahead, happened to overhear the conversation. "Nothing, okay? Forget it." Kya snapped, not wanting to talk about it anymore. It was time to act formal, it was time to throw away the past of the little girl who used to follow her uncle around begging him to teach her how to sword fight. "Soon, once you are older." He always assured her by ruffling her hair. "Pinky promise?" Little Kya smiled with a huge grin as she looked up at the man in red. "Always, Kya." That last memory was the one she cherished the most. It was the day she had met Lord Braska and Jecht who said he was from a city that was destroyed thousand years ago. She remembered her uncle explaining that he must have gotten too close to Sin's toxin. However, that was the least of her worries back then. "Uncle, don't go!" Kya wrapped her small arms around his waist, squeezing with all of her might. Although there was plenty of warning about the day where they must depart, Kya believed if maybe if she begged hard enough, maybe he would stay but that day was the last day where he would hug her tightly. "Don't worry, I will teach you how to fight with a sword but stay close to Yuna okay? I love you, kiddo. Stay strong."

Kya found herself thinking about that day instead of focusing on the blitzball game until she heard screams in the audience. "Fiends?" Kya stood up to check out the communication but Seymour quickly stood in front of her. "I'm not a little kid." She warned, but she realized what he was doing as he called forth the aeon, Anima. He wanted to prove himself worthy to Spira. Kya noticed that he was smiling for the first time in a while as the people began to cheer and thanked him for saving them from the fiends. The people were in awe as they saw that Seymour, despite being young, had such power. Kya was in awe as well but truthfully, she was also frightened. The aeon looked like a beast, its wings trapped in chains and its face looked as if it had been nearly ripped off. The terrifying part was, it looked almost human. Kya wanted to cover her ears when she heard its demonic growls. Kya remained frozen as she watched Anima destroy the last fiend that was flying towards them. Seymour looked over at Kya. "Come. Stand by me, Lady Kya." He smiled, his hand reaching out towards her. Kya was hesitant for a moment, it wasn't like him to seem affectionate towards her. She began to wonder if he was doing this for the views of Spira. Taking his hand, he pulled her by his side as she heard the people chant his name.
