Hello, so here I am again with another story again for Rosalie and Emmett a criminally underrated couple. This time we are in a New Moon setting for a smaller story of about 17 chapters all taking place from the Volterra arc. So yeah an AU but only a little bit.
(As if that makes a difference!)
A side note on the relationship with Alice. As I have previously stated as I grow older I find that I struggle with the character of Alice the most. I do see her actions sometimes as toxic and while I don't believe Stephanie intended for her to be written that way sometimes I just want to reach through the pages and shake the vampire until she understands certain things. This was a way of getting all of that out. If you love Alice and think she can do no wrong this might not be the best story for you. Her relationship with Rosalie and how she and Edward treat Rosalie is something I have addressed many a time throughout my fics and stories but I hope that you enjoy nonetheless. This is not intended to be an Alice bashing fic, this is just for me to have my say as an ardent Rosalie fan. For all Alice lovers out there I hope that you understand and I am hopeful that one day I will learn to re-like Alice again.
This is not one hundred percent cannon, if you are looking for word for word perfect scenes out of the book then I am not the author for you, this is my interpretation of these events.
There will be trigger warnings for this story and keep in mind a hell of a lot of swearing for what is in the books, also some interpretation on Rosalie and Emmett's past. This also might turn into an M Rated story depending on how I take it. Again something to keep in mind as we progress.
Some events might be missed from the book as well but the bare bones of it still remain.
Also spelling/grammar etc...not my strongest point. Again something to take note off.
Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.
Please Read and Review.
And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know.
Spheres Of Influence
An AU of New Moon in which for reasons beyond her comprehension a very unwilling Rosalie finds herself in Forks checking up on Bella and somehow ends up in Volterra trying to save Edward. Rosalie/Emmett pairings.
Chapter 1-Things Meant To Be Bent Not Broken
"Damaged people are dangerous. They know they can survive" Josephine Harper.
A sweater.
That was all it was that started this entire thing, a bloody, lousy sweater.
The irony was that she could have just gone and bought another one but this was one was soft and well worn and the softest pink and call Rosalie sentimental but she wanted to keep it. So much had been given already for this new life, her clothes were not something she was willing to compromise on.
She had said she was going back to the house and immediately everyone had looked at her as if Edward was going to kick down the door and demand things. Rosalie personally thought Edward had demanded quite a bit of them already and so she very plainly told Carlisle she would be there and back in two hours, touch as little as she could at the house and not be seen.
And really? She had wanted to say, what else would she do? She was hardly going to march over to Charlie Swan's house and see if his daughter had moved on with a new boyfriend like Edward was so desperately clinging to was she? She had hardly shown an interest when the silly little girl was with Edward, she was hardly going to do it now Edward had realised that he was a danger with every second he stayed by her side.
So that was how she ended up in Forks while the rest of the family were in Denali with Tanya and her family. Or if you were Jasper and Alice you were…well…Alice wasn't exactly saying but Rosalie knew they were trying to track down the remnants of Alice's past.
Personally Rosalie thought James was very lucky that Jasper had not figured it out while he was destroying him. Otherwise his death might have been a lot more painful and a lot more prolonged.
She checked her phone as she left the house and saw that Emmett had sent her a series of emoji's. With each phone upgrade they got he delighted in sending her the newest things even though they made absolutely no sense whatsoever and she delighted in sending him the eye roll one back alongside a love heart.
He had wanted to come with her but she had not seen the point. Emmett missed Bella, had viewed her the little sister that made his brother happy. With Rosalie it was a lot more clinical. She had not hated the girl per say but she had wanted to shake her and her simple outlook on the world, on love, on life, on their life.
She wondered for a second if Edward had ever bothered to tell Bella in an informed, educated way what she would be giving up. Maybe that would have helped instead of blanketly refusing to even have a discussion. Nothing set stubbornness in a teenager than outright refusing them no.
Even Edward should know that. He was a child of the war after all.
She had just been about to step into her car when her phone rang.
Alice.
She answered it more out of habit than anything else. Alice was quite capable of ringing until someone picked up and when that didn't work she'd have Carlisle do it and it was a lot harder to ignore Carlisle no matter what state their relationship was in.
"Alice?"
"Rose…Rose…Rose"
It was a good thing that she hadn't started the car because if she had she'd have rammed it into a tree perfect vision be damned. She felt something crawl up inside of her sending venom pooling into her mouth with the force of an intended threat.
Alice sounded terrified.
And coming from Alice who saw everything before it happened that was saying something.
"What?!" she gasped trying to get numb and ironically bloodless (in every sense of the word) fingers to work turning the key in the car but yet she couldn't get them to move. For a vampire this was oddly embarrassing but she couldn't help but think that something had happened….something so terrible that it had made Alice sound like that and her first thought went to her husband.
"Alice what is it Emmett? Has something happened, to him? Is he okay?"
Seriously why wouldn't the woman answer her?
And then just when she was sure she was going to have to cause some kind of disturbance Alice spoke and the second the words hit Rosalie's brain a hybrid of emotions crashed into her and there was nothing she could do but ride the wave until the end.
"It's not Emmett, Emmett's safe in Denali they all are. I just had a vision, it's Bella…she's dead"
Rosalie sat back on the leather seat and blinked.
Wow.
Well…not wow, not really, humans were disgustingly accident prone and Bella was accident prone times one hundred. If there was any scenario in which Bella Swan was going to die she supposed an accident would probably be best. God knows it made sense to her. She didn't quite understand why Alice was acting as if it was the end of the world, surely everyone would have known that this was coming when Edward had refused her the bite? But she would fully admit that she had never been one to understand the obsession Alice had with Edward's little human.
"Okay" she said finally.
"OKAY?!"
Christ did Alice have to be so fucking shrill?
"Okay Alice" Rosalie said evenly. "She's human, Edward wanted her to stay human. That's why we uprooted and left remember? I don't know what you thought was going to happen but at some point we were going to be here—"
"She killed herself"
Rosalie blinked temporarily stunned into silence.
Her first thought, God help her, was, really? Because of Edward?
What that said about her as a person was something else but Rosalie had admitted a long time ago that she was fundamentally flawed and not in a good way.
"Okay" she said again and before Alice could shout she interjected quickly.
"Look! I don't know what you want me to say, I don't know what you want me to do either. She's dead Alice, she's human it was always going to happen"
"I need you to go and check on Charlie"
For a second Rosalie was genuinely so stunned she couldn't speak.
"Are you for real right now?"
"Rose I can't see…I can't see him I just…I'd go myself but Jasper thinks we should leave well enough alone and I can't get a plane where I am and—"
"Jasper's right Alice, don't you think we did enough damage to Charlie Swan and his daughter when we were here? It wasn't like we were very cautious"
And that was the royal we speaking. She'd have had Bella Swan fall down the stairs the second Edward saved her from that car wreck but then again since when did anyone listen to her opinion on the truly important stuff.
"Rose for once in your life will you just do something for someone else—"
"Fuck off" she said viciously down the phone wanting nothing more to do than to sneak through it and wring Alice's scrawny neck until she was headless.
"I have done many a thing for this family I don't want to Alice. If what your saying is true then the man's just lost his daughter and how much do you want to bet that he's going to blame Edward for what happened? The last thing he's gonna want to see is me rocking up on his doorstep with the flowers and the family condolences"
"Just do it please" Alice said and there was a tone in her voice that promised a thousand nightmares if Rose didn't capitulate which she thought was real fucking unfair. Alice had to make things so toxic sometimes she thought viciously, it was always Alice and Edward and what they thought was right against what the rest of them thought and Carlisle would always capitulate against his more talented children. Emmett and her were by comparison normal and she thought that sometimes that was a great sense of disappointment to him.
Maybe she was reading too much into it but she couldn't help but feel it. Her…feelings for Carlisle were complicated on a good day, so mixed up in blame and pity and love and hate and a need to please him in the same way she had felt the need to please her own father.
"Alice I think this is incredibly unfair to do this"
"Yes well I thought it was incredibly unfair to not be there when Edward brought Bella to the house for the first time but you managed didn't you?"
Oh great, Alice was getting snippy. That meant within three second her phone was going to buzz with a text from Jasper. Christ the man was so whipped it was almost comical.
Except when it wasn't.
"If I say yes will you stop bitching down the phone at me?" she said finally.
"Yes. Come on Rose after the way you were with her it's the least you can do. Besides…think of me, I have to find a way to tell Edward."
Rosalie opened her mouth to comment that she couldn't figure out why Edward would care considering everything he had put the girl through and considering that this was the endgame to his little experiment but she closed it. If she had been a human her head would have been buzzing with a headache. Even now she felt like she needed to lie down on the floor and just breathe in the stilted air and the dust motes.
"Alright" she said conceding (with Alice there was nothing else you could do). "Alright I will extend my condolences but that's it"
"Get me some details about the funeral"
"Alice! If your right—"
"If?"
"If your right then the man's daughter has just died and he's probably only just been informed. Somehow I don't think funeral arrangements will be on the cards and I certainly do not intend to help him plan one. For God's sake you can see the future can't you, figure it out"
She hung up before she could say anything that Carlisle would make her apologise for and threw her phone into the back seat. She had flown here instead of running. Air travel had been a new thing for her when she had been human, planes just gracing the sky and she found she liked the feeling of being up in the air even if it meant those pesky little passports. For all the world she should have ran. She'd have been halfway home by now and unable to turn back.
She thought about calling Emmett…he had been exceptionally fond of Bella after all but she didn't want to ruin the bad mood she was in with her husband's gentle way of viewing the world. She didn't want to tell her husband that the reason she didn't want to see a father in grief for the death of his daughter was because she was sure that her father had never shed so much as a tear for her. It had been part the times and part her father who had never shown much emotion towards anything or anyone apart from his slavish loyalty towards the King's and their son.
She threw the car into start and went down the driveway onto the freeway and back towards town. She would give the man her condolences and then she would go, chances are he wouldn't want to see her, probably wouldn't know who she was and that worked fine with her. She'd do this, let it shut Alice up and then go back to deal with the prissy little bitch that Edward was going to be when he found out Bella broke her promise.
She opened the window and let the fresh air hit her and then rolled it back up immediately. Seriously had someone opened a kennel or a sewer or something? Whole town of Forks reeked like wet dog.
Ironically it never occurred to any of the Cullen's that Alice could have been wrong. As it was said they did rely on her too much. She had always been right, there had never been an exception to the rule.
But that was before Bella Swan, before Jacob Black, before their second return to Forks and as Rosalie dithered in the car watching the sky turn black and steadfastly ignoring messages from Alice as to just what the fuck she was doing she thought for the briefest of seconds that if Edward had done what Carlisle had done and not asked permission this would have been a whole different ball game.
But she got out of the car at the fifteenth phone call and she left the phone buzzing away. The stench of wet dog was strong around the house as she broke in and she wondered briefly if Bella had gotten a pet to get over Edward.
It stirred something in her as she sat on the couch in the nicely furnished living room breathing in the two scents (she did not count the dog at all). A memory once long forgotten but…but there was no way in hell that, that could be happening again.
Edward, Alice…they would have seen it or heard it.
She realised then with a shock to the system that she had never asked Alice how Bella had committed suicide.
Well…did it matter?
No she supposed thinking hard, it didn't really matter all things considered. Dead was still dead. She of all people should know that. There was no second chances no matter what happened. Once it was over…it was over. No point in wishing that the genie could be put back in the bottle was there?
Rosalie leaned against the couch and wished her husband was her with her, holding her hand and stopping her thoughts from getting too dark.
Emmett would know what to do.
Emmett always knew what to do.
She thought of him her eyes closed, and she saw his dimpled smile and she let herself drift and dream (the closest thing she got to sleep anymore) and that was where she was when the scent of lilac and freesia that she thought had been eradicated hit her and someone opened the door.
And there you are, I hope you enjoyed this one.
Next Chapter-Rosalie and Bella both get the shocks of their lives but the hits keep on coming when Rosalie realises just who Jacob Black is related too and then receives a phone call from Alice.
