Author's note: English is still not my first language and unfortunately, it will never be. And I also still don't have a medical degree or any kind of clue how to treat injuries. So if you know how to do it, please just laugh (or fuss) about how dumb this is but don't tell me ;) and remember it is fiction and we love whump.

The crime scene was in the middle of nowhere.
A hiker had found a body – less than 24 hours dead.
Max had just finished his first examination and the team was searching the perimeter looking for clues and possible evidence.
There wasn't much to go on though.
It was a rough terrain with trees and knee-high plants and grass.
It seems like no-one had been here recently but the governor's task force searched the area nonetheless.
Suddenly Steve stopped walking.
"You found something?" Danny asked.
"Thought I saw movement – two o'clock."
Danny looked up but couldn't see anything. Then he looked back at his partner and said "You sure?"
"No. Could have been a branch or something as well."
They continued their search until they suddenly both noticed movement out of the corner of their eyes. They looked up and saw a head.
It wasn't clear if it was a man or a woman but it was definitely a human.
Whoever it was turned around and ran.
Steve took off after the person yelling at Danny "Go. Block the path."
Steve didn't really think the fugitive would take that route but you'll never know what was going on in them and he wanted to give the stranger as few ways as possible to escape.
Steve was faster than the person running away from him – a man he was sure now – and he was just about 10 yards away when Steve's run came to an abrupt halt and he crashed to the ground.
Something was holding him by his right ankle. Steve yanked but nothing happened. Then the pain came. Despite of it he yanked again. Then the real pain came and then he screamed.
