A/n: Well, I made this little scene in my head after watching the ending of Serenity. Zoë was flowing in that lovely dress, and I decided to add onto it; Wash deserved more of an exit...
Disclaimer: I don't own Firefly or Serenity or anything of that sort, although I wish I did.
Spoiler: The ending of Serenity.
The sun was setting and a warm breeze began to blow. This wasn't what Zoë had imagined to be her final day with her husband. She wouldn't admit that it was over, and that he would somehow rise from the dead and fix everything, make it all shiny again. But he never did. After surviving the reaver attack, everyone was all banged up and needed repairing themselves, but not Wash; Wash was broke completely. Simon stitched her up pretty good, but even with sedatives, she couldn't sleep without Wash's body beside hers. Zoë would often visit the cockpit and burst into tears; no one had ever seen her like this.
On his burial day, she didn't speak to anyone. She just silently placed the candle on his headstone, and prayed for his safe passage, with Sheppard Book as his guide.
Suddenly, she spoke, "Everyone knows I'm a warrior, but no body knew why. Till this day, it's unspoken. He's both my weakness and my strength. And so shall it be until the day I die."
Silence enveloped them once again, until she started humming a soft, eerie tune.
"There is no one out there
Who can soar
Like thee.
Like the wind
Ever blowing;
Never ceasing
In my dreams.
There is no one out there
Who can see
The beauty
Within me.
But your flame no longer burns;
Farewell to thee,
Farewell, my love."
A/n: I tried to incorporate a mystical quality into Zoë's song, because the Firefly Soundtrack was a mix between eastern and western influences. So, I hope you enjoyed it 3
