Chapter one

Diluc woke to the sound of someone knocking on his bedroom door. His disgruntled response was muffled by his pillow, so he flipped over onto his back and lay with his arm draped over his closed eyes.

"Master Diluc, are you awake?"

Ah, Elzer. "Yes, what's wrong?" He cleared his throat slightly, still half-asleep.

His respectful assistant responded through the thick oaken door. "Nothing is wrong, Master Diluc. I just assumed you might want a bit of time to prepare for the day."

Diluc flung his arm off and blinked at the ceiling. Prepare for the day? What…? I don't have any meetings planned for today. This was supposed to be a rest day after clearing out that Abyssal domain last night. He winced and lifted his hand to rotate his wrist. At least my wrist is feeling better despite spraining it slightly during the battle last night. But back to today… "Elzer, please remind me of the schedule for the day."

"You offered to assist Miss Lumine by joining her adventure team for a week, I believe."

Oh.

Right.

oOo

Noelle hummed to herself as she brushed the last of her silvery hair and set her comb down. "Today's the day! I can't believe it's finally here!" She spun away from her mirror, eyes sparkling. Half-dancing across her room, she scooped up her bundle of hand-made roses and began attaching them to her armor.

A knock at the door made her look up as she settled her belt around her waist. She answered in a chipper voice, "Just a moment, please! I'll be ready to assist you as soon as possible!"

"No worries, Noelle! It's just me, Amber!"

The maid ran to the door and threw it open. "Amber! Have you heard? Jean is letting me out of the city!"

Amber laughed. "I know, I'm soooo excited for you! I came to help you get ready for your big outing!" She entered the room as Noelle stood back. "Do you have everything you need?"

A tiny frown wrinkled Noelle's dainty nose. "I think so… I have extra food, bandages, Pyro and Cryo potions, my greatsword, my roses, my armor… what am I forgetting?" She brushed a finger across her mouth in worry. "OH! My Vision!" She dashed to the bed and scooped up the enormous Geo Vision laying on the pristine blankets. "Could you help me put it on, please?"

Amber cheerfully obliged, using the dark pink ribbon to secure the Vision to the back of Noelle's dress. "Your Vision is so big! It must be because you have such a big heart for helping people, Noelle."

Embarrassed, Noelle clasped her hands and looked down shyly. "Oh, but I like helping people! That's not a bad thing, right? I mean, that's what a dutiful maid is supposed to do… right?"

The Outrider finished tying the bow and clapped her friend on the shoulder. "Of course! And a good Knight, too."

Noelle blinked at her. "But it's morning!"

"No, haha, I didn't, haha, I didn't mean goodnight, I meant a good Knight helps people, too," Amber managed to say before dissolving into giggles.

Catching the accidental pun, Noelle broke into giggles too. "Oops, I misunderstood you," she gasped between chuckles.

Amber helped Noelle with the last few preparations before ushering her out of the Knights' Headquarters. "All right, now go have fun! Enjoy yourself and stay safe! I expect a full report on all your exciting adventures when you get back!"

Noelle waved to her friend as she broke into a run. I'm really getting to leave the city on an adventure! Hooray!
