Boring Days and shopping
Kate clicked the key fob as she headed away from the small car. She hated Mondays. Even when there wasn't a universe threatening apocalypse on the horizon, Mondays were not good days. They involved meetings with the Prime Minister - whoever that was this week, the Monarch and the head of the Armed Forces. She sighed as she retrieved a trolley, fitting the £1 coin into the slot to release it. It also meant shopping. Whatever else was going on in the Universe a woman had to eat. She just wanted to get the week over with, knowing that with any luck she would get to see her son, Gordon and his fiancé that weekend. She liked Gemma. The girl was good for her son. She shook her head as she thought of the young man, knowing that he was more like his grandfather than either of them were willing to admit.
"Bread, strawberry jam." Kate mumbled under her breath as she turned the corner at the end of the aisle. "Oh God, no." She mumbled as a very familiar voice caught her ears. For a moment she wondered if it was going to be better to turn around and leave the shop, hoping that the owner of the voice hadn't seen her.
"KATE! ELLO!"
"Oh great." She mumbled before planting a fake smile on her face.
"Kate." A pair of warm hands gripped her shoulders. "I've been looking for you. Two for one in the pop section."
"You have more than enough E numbers." Kate huffed as the Doctor smiled at her, his grey eyebrows almost hitting his hair line. His Scottish accent warmer than the last time they had met. "What year is it?" He grabbed a newspaper from the stand. "Great. Got the right year."
"Oh good." Kate sighed. "What are you doing here?"
"Do you need loo roll?"
"Focus." She glanced at her shopping list. "No." Kate fought the urge to swear as Clara appeared.
"There you are."
"Clara." Kate was relieved to see the younger woman. "Why? What is going on?"
"Doctor! Haven't you told her?"
"Not had a chance to. Not yet. Kate. Come with us."
"I can't." Kate had a feeling protesting was going to be pretty pointless. The last time he had been turned down by her the Doctor had annoyed her neighbours by playing Roy Orbison songs full blast on his Electric Guitar until the early hours of the morning until she had given up and walked into the TARDIS. "I have a meeting in the morning, Gordon is coming for the weekend and . You're not listening."
"He does this." Clara sighed. "Sorry."
"I've known him all my life. I get it." She sighed.
"That's just it. Your life is in danger."
"When isn't it?" She placed some loo roll in her trolley as they walked around the supermarket. "Really? You know what I do for a living."
"Yeah, well this time no one wants to kill you."
"Good, glad to hear it." She huffed. "Hold on." She turned to look at the alien.
"They want to stop you being born. "
