Trigger warning: Contains gas lighting, manipulative behavior, and mentions of abuse. I'm trying to keep this light, but these are integral to the story.
For fans of the show, I picture this taking place between the episodes Prodigal and Fever in Season 2.
I own nothing. Who is shocked?
I hope you all enjoy. I pretty much have it planned out where this is going, but I'm open to comments/feedback.
Big Brother
Chapter One
Clark Kent brushed his teeth for the tenth time that afternoon. He fumed as he scrubbed as hard as he dared without breaking the toothbrush.
The day should have been perfect. He had finished all his chores early so he had the entire afternoon free to do homework. It didn't sound exciting, but he had a study group planned with Lana Lang, the girl of his dreams. Originally his other friends Pete and Chloe were supposed to join them, but Pete's brother had gotten last minute tickets to a basketball game and Chloe's cousin made an impromptu visit.
That left an entire afternoon free to be with Lana. Alone. It sounded too good to be true. And in a way, it was.
Lana was the manager, and part owner, of the Talon, the local (and only) coffee shop. She had the afternoon off, so Clark agreed to meet her there. The date (or study date he had to remind himself) was going well. They were studying, drinking coffee, and Clark even managed to get Lana to smile her sweet smile and laugh at one of his jokes. Lex had even dropped in, but when he saw Clark and Lana tucked away studying in a corner, he only gave a small nod and ordered his coffee without coming over, giving Clark the privacy he desired. Lex was another of Clark's friends even though he was in his early twenties. Because of their age difference, Clark couldn't help but think of Lex more as an older brother at times.
The afternoon took a turn for the worst when Clark took a sip of his newly topped off coffee and Lana looked at him horrified. Apparently, the waitress on duty had put a trick potion in his coffee which turned his teeth black. The crime was solved quickly when a bunch of laughter came from Fitz, a jock of Smallville High. His girlfriend was the waitress and clearly he asked her to do it for a laugh.
Lana went straight into manager mode, reprimanding the waitress. Since Lex was there, he became involved as well since he was the other owner and main investor. The waitress became upset learning she would receive immediate termination. The staff spiking customer drinks was not an image Lana nor Lex wanted to promote. Everyone's attention then turned to the girlfriend throwing anything she could get her hands on at Fitz's head. This allowed Clark to sneak out without any more people laughing at his black teeth.
What's so funny about black teeth anyway? Clark thought as he rinsed his mouth out. He grinned into the mirror and sighed as they remained a dull grey.
If only Clark was on the football team. Or basketball team. Or any sport. Then he could get some respect at school. He could be the best player the school had ever had if only he was allowed to play. But his Father wouldn't permit it because it would not be fair.
Clark was actually an alien who arrived on Earth during a meteor shower that devastated the entire town. Lives were lost and changed that day. Some for the better, like his parents who found him in a cornfield and took him home where he became the son they always wished for. Some for the worse, like Lana who lost both her parents that day. And some lives just changed. The meteor rocks sometimes had weird effects on people, giving them superhuman powers. The people infected often went crazy and tried to hurt at least one of his friends, but Clark so far had managed to keep all of them safe. Being an alien, Clark had some superpowers of his own. He was faster and stronger than normal people. In the past two years he discovered new things he could do; like see through walls, cause things to burst into flames just by looking at them, and apparently, he was bulletproof.
Clark sighed again and put away his toothbrush. Clearly he would be making no further progress on his teeth. He still had homework to do.
It was almost suppertime, so Clark first stopped off at the fridge to get a snack to hold him over. His parents were spending the night away in Metropolis. His Mother had stocked the fridge with pot roast and apple pie for him.
Just as Clark was about to open the refrigerator door, he felt himself double over in a familiar pain. This was how he felt when meteor rocks were nearby. Just as he was about to turn his head and look around, Clark felt a small pinch at the base of his neck. Then he felt so tired. So tired it would not hurt to close his eyes for just a few moments.
