Risen Again

"It's snowing!" Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she ran out from the doorway, throwing her arms out and catching snow flakes with her tongue.

"Your powers of observation serve you well." He snickered and followed her out, feeling slightly unsteady in the new fallen snow.

She hit him playfully on the arm, a smile gracefully lighting her features. His breath caught slightly, and he flashed a shaky smile back.

"Something wrong?" She frowned slightly, concerned. Snow floated down from the heavens, catching in her wavy brown hair.

He shook his head, never taking his eyes off her. "It's cold." His breath clouded in front of him, confirming his point.

She smiled again, eyes lighting up as she searched the sky. "It's beautiful though." Snow drifted down, swirling directly above her head.

He smiled back, watching as the snow danced and twirled above her head. "It is." He agreed, staring at her again.

She opened her mouth then, catching flakes as the trailed past her face, giggling when they gently kissed her cheeks. The snow flew past her, getting tangled above her bent head, creating a circle, a halo.

He'd seen it before, it happened all the time. But it always surprised him, the gentle appearance of it. The way it shimmered before it came into full view. He always wondered if she ever saw it. If she ever glanced in the mirror, her breath catching in her throat, the way his did. He always wondered if she ever glanced up, eye's catching a glimpse of the light dancing above her head.

He was thrown out of his thoughts when a snowball smashed against his jacket, causing tiny snowflakes to fly in all directions. He heard a gentle twinkle of laughter coming from behind a tree.

"You better watch out. I know where you live." He tried to sound menacing, but his smile shone through. He packed some snow lightly, and quietly tiptoed around the tree. As he neared the side where the laughter trickled and taunted him, another snowball hit him again. He let out a mock cry of pain and fell to the ground.

"You've got me! My heart! Oh, you got me in my heart!" He clutched his chest, and rolled around in the snow for good measure.

She flopped down next to him. "Shut up you big baby." She sounded indifferent, but concern laced her voice.

He smiled at her while she lay staring at the sky. Her eyes roamed the sky while his got caught on the light that floated above her head, even as she lay on the white powder He watched as it danced and skipped around her head, snow catching in the circle that glimmered against her hair.

She became bored with the sky, and turned to him. "What should we do now?"

His eyes met hers, and then slowly traveled to the halo glowing above her head. "Snow angels."

She grinned then, and threw her arms out to the sides. After a few moments, she struggled to her feet, gazing at her completed angel. "It's missing something." She murmured.

He stared at her face against the white, and then at the light encircling her head. Bending down, he drew a small circle above her snow angel. "It's a halo," he explained. "Every angel has one."
