He never thought he'd see Sakura again, at least not so unexpectedly, so far from the battlefield and Konohoa and all his other conflicts. It was in a rural village, in a small inn, the 2nd floor, in a hallway between the staircase and the guest rooms.
They stood there in silence for what seemed like forever, staring at each other and wondering what the other was thinking and who should make the first move. Sasuke could stay like this forever, just staring into her bright green eyes. But Sakura's patience seemed to wear thin; she had dinner plans with someone that she wasn't supposed to miss.
"Sasuke," she whispered while pushing past him and averting her gaze. Sakura didn't bother to wonder why her heart was skipping beats; she knew exactly what it was. She also knew it was unrequited.
"Congratulations," he said, nodding toward her engagement band.
"Oh, arigato." Wow, didn't those words sting? They were so familiar.
"Who is he?" Sasuke asked. 'This can't be happening.'
"Naruto," she whispered again, bowing her head.
"Hn. Lucky dobe." He said. She raised an eyebrow at his reply. 'Lucky?' Sakura was about to walk down the stairs when she asked, "You're never coming home, are you?"
"No."
"Oh, Ok," she said while fighting back the teary voice she knew was about to come along with the crying and begging and his usual "You're annoying."
"I have no reason to now. You're taken."
She gaped at him for a second before gliding over to him and into his arms. "Sasuke-kun…"
That night, when Naruto came back to the hotel room, he had a strange cloud hanging over him. Sakura never came. They had dinner reservations at a nice restaurant, but she never showed. He had waited hours in vain. She had a lot of explaining to do.
But when he walked in, he did not find his paink-haired fiancé; instead he found her engagement band on his dresser along with a note reading "Gomen."
Off in the distance somewhere, there was a young couple standing before a preacher, ready to get married. They were smiling.I know its reallly short and all, but go easy on me. This is my first fic!
