The Heart

Chapter 1

Searching and Wondering

Lava stood on the dark tiled roof, looking out over the houses of Okinawa, Japan. The grey morning light was coming and the sun would soon show itself, dismissing Lava into the darkness.

"Shiina," Lava called. A pink bunny-like creature appeared on his shoulder.

"Yes?," Shiina asked.

"Can you find her?" Lave asked. Ignoring the obvious strain in Lava's voice, the bunny-like creature lifted its left ear and did full circle in place on Lava's shoulder. Searching the world with its revealing eye, it couldn't even find Miyu.

"I can't find her, Lava," Shiina said unhappily, "You didn't find anything of hers?"

"Only these." Lava responded, withdrawing a red ribbon and a flute from inside his cloak to show Shiina.

Miyu woke up in darkness and feeling her heart beat in her head. She reached a small hand up to the back of her head and it came into contact with a thick liquid. Miyu smelled it strongly, she'd drunk it her whole life, but this was her own blood.

Upon that thought her dark guardian came to mind. Miyu looked around in the pitch darkness. Her golden vampire eyes grew anxious, she didn't recognize where she was. Miyu was inside some kind of hole. The circular walls surrounding her were stone with earth filling in the gaps between them. "Lava?"

Drip, drip, was the only response she received. Miyu grew frightened. Feeling defensive, held up her hand in front to conjure up a small flame. "Lava!"

Once again there was no response except for the dripping of the water in Miyu's unwanted confinement. She looked up only to see criss-crossing bars blocking off the entrance.

Miyu floated up, when her hand came in contact with the bars her flame went out. She felt a hard force push her back down fast. Slamming into the cold floor pain shot through Miyu's body like thunder.

Out of the darkness Miyu heard the sound of an old door creak open and a small shedding of light came halfway down her prison wall.

The clear voice came cutting through the silent ice of the present twilight. "Good morning, Princess Miyu. So much noise so early in the morning is not appropriate behavior for a princess."

Miyu wanted to respond, but found herself unable to. She was in pain, but it was as if another strong force was keeping her from uttering a word.

Miyu heard footsteps move towards her caged cell of weariness, then she was met with a fainting darkness.
