A/N: Based off the behaviors of a real Chao.

Most people don't realize how difficult it is to be a good translator. In every language there are proverbs, idioms, and general slang that just won't transfer smoothly into another language. When this happens translators will usually use their judgment to rewrite the offending line while trying to keep the essence of the statement the same. In very rare cases the line is left exactly as it is in the original language.

A case like this occurs with the Chao language in Sonic Adventure 2. After months of study, our experts have finally deciphered the meaning behind the happy exclamations of everyone's favorite virtual AI's. The results are not as adorable as the speakers. Among the possible translations for the phrase "Chao chao chao!" the most common and accurate translation is:

"All right, keep your hands where I can see 'em. Good. Now hand over the Chaos Drives nice and easy and no one gets hurt."

As you see, there is quite a lot lost in translation.

A/N: I have one Chao who has slanted, evil eyes and a toothy grin. Whenever I see him I get the feeling he's up to no good. Putting a ski mask on him didn't help either, now it looks like he wants to mug me...
