Momo, now 16 years old, lived with her mother, Juli Mizrahi, and Ziggy, who watched over them making sure they were safe at all times. Momo worked at Scientia now, so she couldn't do many things she wanted to after her work had been finished. Though Alby made her days a little better by making her laugh and smile. Little moments like these aside, she wasn't pleased with her life completely. She felt there were a missing piece in her heart, and that she could not live without that piece. Jr. had left her recently, going along with Shion and Allen. The battle that was fought previously rested in her mind and she thought about it everyday. Why did so many people have to die? She thought one night over restless tossing and turning. They didn't do anything wrong. Countless people risked their lives for their famalies. Shouldn't that be enough? Her mother urged her to make the best of what was happening now in the present, but she refused to accept that many people's lives were taken for no reason. Everyone there at Scientia also tried to cheer her up, because she was a good friend to a lot of the people there.
This morning she would get up, get dressed, and go downstairs for breakfast. Her mother always made her favorite: bacon, eggs, and her mother's famous buttermilk pancakes with syrup. This time she put two strawberries dipped lightly in sugar on top of her pancakes.
When Momo jumped down the stairs pulling down her shirt a little, her mother called out to her. "Momo, breakfast is ready."
"Thanks, but I'm not really hungry," she said plaintivley. She didn't lift her head to speak to her mother, she simply grabbed an apple that was placed on the counter. She closed her eyes and sank her teeth into the delicious apple.
Juli stood by watching her daughter thoughtfully. "Is there something wrong?" she asked.
Momo swallowed the earlier consumed bite of apple and shook her head. "No." With this, Momo grabbed her things and walked towards the door.
"Are you sure?" Juli said finally. Momo stopped. Her hand was almost placed on the doorknob, stopped in mid-air. Without turning around Momo spoke softly.
"It's okay, Mom. I'm fine." She grabbed the doorknob forcefully and closed the door behind her.
Alby swung around the kitchen counter and barked sharply at Juli. The startled her.
"Alby? What do you want?" Alby raised his head in pride and wagged his tail rapidly. "Oh," she laughed. "You're hungry, aren't you?" Alby barked.
