Tobias POV
"WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO BE HERE!" I yelled. It was our father. "I came to apologize to Miriam." He explained. " NO WAY! WE HAVE MOVED ON FROM YOU!" I screamed. Then Miriam came in. "Miriam gets back in bed" I snapped. My father walked over to her. "Miriam I'm so sorry" He apologized. "I can't forgive you," she snarled. My father then noticed her wrist. "MIRIAM ROSEN MENDELSOHN! WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR WRIST!" He screamed. "I just hurt it, why are you yelling at me like that please stop." she sniffed. Miriam then looks at her insulin pump and my father loses it. "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOUR MOM NOT TO GET THE PUMP IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE!" "WHY WOULD YOU MANIPULATE HER TO GET YOU ONE YOU SPOILED BRAT!" He screeched. 'Dad just leave please" She choked. All of a sudden my father dared to touch her wheelchair. "Please don't touch my chair, that's rude!" She scoffed. "DON'T YOU DARE SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY YOU LITTLE BRUTE!" He scowled. All of a sudden he pushed Miriam out of her chair. "LEAVE NOW!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Miriam was on the ground sobbing. I helped her back in her chair and had a stern talk with her
"Miriam you were supposed to be resting" I snipped. "I'm so sorry Tobias" She sobbed. "Now Mom will be so angry at me that I let you get hurt." I continued. "I am sorry " "just please be nice to me" She cried. "You know what, Miriam take care of yourself!" "You are so much more work now that you're paralyzed and I don't want to deal with it anymore!" I yelled. Miriam sobbed and sobbed. I only felt myself getting angrier. "YOU'RE THE MAIN REASON WHY DAD LEFT US!" I screamed. Miriam started bawling and immediately went into her room. Finally, all of my other siblings came out of their rooms. "Tobias How could you speak to her like that!" Leah snapped. I knew how wrong I was after those words from my 10-year-old sister's mouth.
Miriam didn't talk to me the rest of the night nor did Leah. When mom finally came home around 6:30. Leah came out of her room and spilled everything. "TOBIAS ADAM! HOW DARE YOU TALK TO YOUR SISTER LIKE THAT!" My mom yelled "I'm so sorry mom" I sighed. "Well sorry won't cut it this time you are grounded for the rest of winter break!" She demanded. "Yes, mother." I Obeyed. "Now go apologize sincerely to her now" She ordered. I nodded
I knocked on Miriam's door and came in after I was invited. She had her back faced next to the door and wasn't looking at me "What do you want Tobias?" She asked. " I came to apologize" I replied. Miriam didn't look back at me. "I'm so sorry Miri I was just so angry that he came back to hurt you that I wasn't thinking and then said terrible things to you," I said tearing up. " I was being a terrible brother and all of this was my fault." "I should've had Grandma or Grandpa answer it and just kept taking care of you" "I had a job and failed and I'm truly sorry" I sniffed. Miriam finally turned over. "Tobias you should be but I forgive you" She responded. I smiled and hugged her and apologized again. I told her how much I love her and left her room.
As a punishment, I had to help Mom cook all meals for the rest of the 2 weeks and had to serve Miriam first and measure her food for her. Tonight we had French onion soup and grilled cheese. When it was ready we called all of the kids and everyone including Miriam came out to eat. I helped Miriam deliver her insulin and all was good the rest of the night.
