Judy POV
Happy 7th-anniversary Zootopia and hurrah for the sequel finally!
I'm so close to being a police officer that I'm almost there. Graduation is going to happen in early spring. My parents and some of my family are coming. Not all of them or there would be room for the other cadet families even when multiple family members can gather in one chair. So it was decided only some family members would go. Also, the majority wouldn't since they think I'm crazy and have a death wish. I don't have a death wish. I want to make the world a better place. Being a carrot farmer isn't doing that. Growing food isn't a bad thing, it's terrific but it's something I don't want to do with my life. For the longest, I have known I wanted to help mammals. The best way I saw making the world a better place was by becoming a police officer. They just don't understand.
We're having a family reunion which happens every summer. Our family always gets bigger each family reunion. It's always fun spending time with family. I do love my family even when they can't understand me. I'm seen as the oddball in the family. I'm not the only one because my family is large. But I'm at the top of the oddballs because of my dream. Looking around and seeing that younger Hopps are running and having fun. I remember those times I had so much fun. Oh, the joys of kithood innocence. No one bothered me about wanting to be a police officer. For they thought it was a cute kit dream. That I wasn't going to take it seriously. That I was going to realize it and become a farmer focusing on raising a family and taking care of a farm. That never came true. I don't want to be a farmer. But someday I do want a family.
"Judith, it's nice to see you."
"Hello, aunt Dolly,"
Looking over to see my father's oldest sister. My father has three hundred ninety-ninety siblings. In comparison, my mother has a hundred thirty-three. In contrast, I have two hundred eighty-five siblings. As for myself, I decided to have one set of kits. That will calm down my parents and other family members. They would want me to have more but I won't. I know what I want in life and nothing is going to stop me.
"So have you found a nice buck to settle in with?" Dolly asked
"No, I haven't aunt Dolly," I say
It's always about me finding a nice buck. They want me to end up with a nice buck and start my family. To have my own farm and start raising crops. I have dated but nothing has come of it. For my relationships don't last long. A few weeks at most and then comes the breakup for I don't want rabbit life. So I'm left in the dust so they can find someone to take that role.
"Judith you have to settle down," Dolly said "It's not a good look on…you."
"I don't what they have to think I won't settle for a life I don't want," I say
I know she was going to say family Dolly always does that. Think of the family when you're doing illogical things. Or rather things that are different. Rabbits and hares stick to what they know and rarely adventure outside it. I hope that changes for the future for us can be anything we set our minds to.
"You just haven't found the right buck," Dolly said "He will show you past your illogical dream."
"You still want to be a cop? That was a kit dream for kits don't grasp the world."
"Still have a death wish don't you."
"You won't be a cop, rabbits don't do that."
"Can you even be a cop? The police academy will be strict."
It's the same old things from family members. They bring up the same old things every time. It hurts but I have gotten used to it. I will prove them wrong. Look over at one of my older siblings. Elaine is totally against my dream even when I was a kit. She never said anything when I was a kit but it was in her eyes. She's a traditional rabbit Elaine started her family after high school and has a branch of our family farm.
"Yes, I can with the Mammal Inclusion Initiative ZPD can't turn me down," I say
Mayor Lionheart created that initiative so mammals don't get discriminated against in the workforce. That makes him a great lion. He has visited Bunnyburrow before but I haven't met him. He has thanked us rabbits and hares for growing food. But I have met former assistant mayor Bushfield. He was a fantastic koala and he's dearly missed. Now I can't be turned down or ZPD will get into huge trouble. I don't have to worry, I can't wait to join the academy. I will show what I can do and I will be a police officer.
"Judy, you don't want to work with predators, they're articulate."
"Elaine leave Judy alone,"
That's Gaylee, another older sister and the same litter as Elaine. She's one of the few Hopps that believes in me. She always encouraged me and played Cops with me. I'm glad that some family members believe in me.
"Of course, you oddballs stick together," Elaine said
She said that with such vermin in her voice. Gaylee and Elaine haven't gotten along with each other for years. That was even before I was born. I would hate it if I didn't get along with Jude. I know that siblings won't always like each other. Gaylee is not bothered by Elaine's remarks. Us oddballs stick together for we get each other. Elaine gets close to her and whispers then she leaves us alone. Gaylee turns over to me and smiles.
"You will be a cop Judy," Gaylee said
Gaylee walks away slowly and heads over to other siblings she gets along with well. Elaine is so rude I will show her wrong. Then she'll eat her words and I will get the final laugh. After what she's done for Eliane has been so mean. Gaylee is right, I will be a cop.
Even with such remarks I still love family gatherings. Elaine still doesn't believe in me and tells me I won't last as a cop. That I will come home crying because I can't pawdle it. That's if I'm not killed on the job. I know I won't be killed and I know that I won't give up. I can't wait to prove her wrong.
"I can't wait to go on patrol,"
"I hope I get some action on my first day,"
"I want to make an arrest,"
My fellow cadets are excited just as I am. They can't wait to become police officers. To serve and protect to make the world a better place. I wonder what my first day as a police officer is going to be like. I hope it's going to be a great one.
"You have to get in Zootopia first,"
"True some won't be so lucky,"
They look over at me when they say that for a moment. Of course, they think I won't make it to Zootopia and that I will patrol the streets of Deerbrook County or in my hometown Bunnyburrow. I hope I don't patrol there. Or my family won't leave me alone. Especially if there's danger they won't leave me alone. Bunnyburrow does have dangerous criminals from time to time.
"My hard work will pay off," I say
I know I patrol the streets of Zootopia for I'm the top of the class. I know that hard work will pay off. I won't let that good feeling go. Soon I will patrol the streets of Zootopia and live there as well. Of course, I will live in a single room low-rent apartment that's just my starter. I'm used to a small room anyway. I got approved now. I just got to get into a precinct in Zootopia. I won't worry about it, I know I will. Soon I will be living in Zootopia and patrolling as well.
Zootopia is a city that I'm going to live in someday. It's a city where predators and prey get along that would be a great city to live in. I would live in the Meadowlands it will be like living in Bunnyburrow. I will be a police officer making the world a better place. It's not boring like being a carrot farmer. All you just grow and pull out carrots. I want to take down robbers and make them pay for stealing others. I want to make sure mammals who hurt mammals get punished and those they hurt get justice. I will be a great cop getting justice for all those who need it.
"That's a great drawing of Zootopia Judy,"
Looking up to see that Gaylee has said that. She's one of many older siblings that I have and one sibling that I get along with very well. Jude always will be the one I get along with the most since he's my twin. Gaylee is one of the only siblings that believes I can be a police officer. I'm glad that she believes in me.
"Thank you Gaylee," I say
I know that Gaylee being nice for my drawings sucks. I'm no artist and I just do it for fun. My drawings won't win any contests but I have for coloring. It was easy for everyone can do that but it was still a nice win. I still have that coloring picture because I want to keep it. I got my picture taken and it was in the newspaper. We still have that newspaper in a keepsake box. I got some ice cream from Dairy Green. That was so great because I got to enjoy a nice treat alone. We rarely get to do that since we have a big family.
"Your welcome Judy,'' Gaylee said
"So would you live in Zootopia?" I ask "I would, of course, Meadowlands while being a police officer."
Gaylee hasn't started her own family like others in her litter. She's the oldest of her litter yet she has married or started her own family. Gaylee loves kits because she kit sits a lot and loves doing it. Also loves spending time with her younger siblings. I know that she will be a great mother. I guess she hasn't found the right buck. It makes sense boys are gross other than Jude for he's great. Gaylee looks at rabbits and hares passing by we're sitting on the porch for today it's a nice sunny day. I see that she's holding her paws together.
"Yeah I would live in Zootopia," Gaylee said "It would be a nice change of pace."
I'm surprised by that answer from Gaylee is well-loved here. We don't have any family in Zootopia. We live in Bunnyburrow and other towns surrounding Zootopia. We're not city folks as my parents would state. Rabbits and rares aren't meant for city life, we're meant for good outdoors. My good friend Barbara's family is from Zootopia and they're florists. They moved to Bunnyburrow when she was a young kit. Barbara has told about Zootopia and how she lived in Tundratown. Even in the snowy and cold climate, they could grow flowers. Their flower shop is well-liked here.
"Oh that's surprising," I say "What would you want in Zootopia?"
"I feel like my buck would be living in Zootopia," Gaylee said
"Oh what about Dylan?" I say "I thought he was your forever buck."
Dylan was her boyfriend for a long time and he's a nice buck. He comes from a great family and they're family friends. Dylan had an interest in Gaylee for a long time. So they started to date and had fun. Dylan loved coming over to dinner and hanging out with us. He was a lot of fun.
"We decided that we wanted different things and broke things off." Gaylee said, "So what criminal do you want to take down today?"
"Oh, I want to take down a cake thief!" I say
"Then I will be the best cake thief," Gaylee said "I will steal all the cake in Bunnyburrow!"
Gaylee runs over to the kitchen with her evil laugh. I place my police hat on and I have to stop the bad cake thief. She has stolen all the cake in Zootopia even from birthday parties! What kind of evil criminal does that to a kit? A cake is special and deserves to be eaten by the birthday kit. Now I just have to find this criminal and get all the cake back.
Gaylee did end up moving to Zootopia and lives in Meadowlands. She moved there a few years ago wanting something new. She met a nice buck who was a widower and they fell in love. I'm happy for her. She's also a music teacher for kits for she always loved working with them. I don't have to worry about being alone in Zootopia. Gaylee and her husband Kerry told me I could visit with just a call away. I do plan to do that Kerry is a good buck.
"Attention cadets," Friedkin said
Major Friedkin enters the room and we pay attention to her like always. She has a serious tone so she has some news for us and I know that it's good news. It's close to graduation so the news has to deal with that. We stood tall and proud Major Friedkin was over us standing as she walked over to us.
"As you know your graduation is coming up soon which means you get fitted for your uniforms." Friedkin said, "Then you will get your uniforms."
That gets talked about among us now. I will have an official ZPD uniform in a matter of weeks. I have been dreaming of becoming a police officer. It's going to be so great. Looking at the other cadets they're excited just like I am. After all, it's an exciting time.
"You will go in alphabetical order," Friedkin said
So that means I'm about halfway and it won't take long to get my uniform. We get in line and we head over to where we will get fitted for our uniform. There are fourteen I would guess it would take about an hour or so. I stand tall as the first cadet goes first. The hippo that I bounced off of and he wasn't too bothered by that. Another goes as well so there are two tailors to go to. Normally I hate waiting for it sucks. I always get bored and want to do something other than wait. I don't have ADHD. I'm just energetic and like to be on the move. Today is different for I'm excited. The line moves and I get close each time. Once I do, Friedkin looks over at me.
"You will go to the third room Judy,'" Friedkin said
"I will Major Friedkin," I say
Since I'm a smaller mammal, another mammal my size would work on my uniform. I wonder who it's going to be. I head over to the room and grab the door handle. I open up the door and head inside. Looking to see that my tailor is a fox. A red fox like Gideon Grey those much older than him. He's the same age as my parents, probably a few years older. He has an average build and a friendly-looking face. I'm surprised that he does, I know uses that to trick other mammals. He's wearing a dark blue suit with a light blue tie.
"Hello miss Hopps is a pleasure to work on your uniform," John said "My name is John Wilde,"
I thought that he looked familiar. His son Nick looks a lot like his father. His wife Katheryn was friendly and believed I could be a police officer when they were photographers for events. But they were replaced with Madelyn Wulf, a great photographer and one that can be trusted. He has respect so that's good news. He holds out what I would guess is his dominant arm and I see that he has a prosthetic arm. Even though he's a fox I can give him credit for being able to tailor with a prosthetic arm. I remember Aspen, a young red vixen with four prosthetics. Meningitis was what took them and there was a bad case of Meningitis that spread like wildfire. Some Hopps members got sick and it was a horrible time for a lot of families in Bunnyburrow. We were lucky and we didn't have serious cases. Aspen was one of the unlucky ones but she survived. She's bullied a lot and I had to tell my youngest siblings to stop calling her robot girl. It was serious and it was sad seeing her so sad. It was bad for years until she finally stood up for herself. No longer Robot girl bothered her for she felt like a Bionic superheroine. She's no longer sad around school but instead stands tall. That's good for her because bullying is wrong. Her mother and Aspen used to stop by Saturdays to get some fruit and vegetables. I was there a few times as they got their fruit and vegetables. Aspens enjoy it because she loves picking the fruit and vegetables they get. It's been a while since I have seen them.
"It's good to meet you, Mr. Wilde," I say
I hold out my arm and shake him for a few moments. Mom and dad would hate this but I can do it's not so bad. He got a good pawshake. Somehow he's a business mammal. Wow, I'm surprised that a fox could do that. Mr. Wilde is taller than me, a few inches taller than Nick. His fur is a bit darker and his eyes are a lighter shade of green. I head over to the stand. It's been some time since I have been fitted into clothes I was going to buy. The last time was my prom dress and I chose a nice navy blue dress that sparked. Still have that dress it's a nice dress to have.
"So have you done this before?" I ask
"Yes, I have, it's a good job to do," John said "I feel proud when I can tailor ZPD uniforms and even the military."
Wow, I'm surprised that ZPD and the military would hire him. They would find it too hard to trust him. He has his measuring tape and he starts measuring me. This always feels weird. My uniform won't take that long since I'm small. He measures and writes down in a notepad.
"That's great for you," I say
It's nice that they are giving him a chance even though he's a fox. He does some more measuring and writing down more information. It shouldn't take much longer. This isn't so bad after all. I can't wait to have my uniform.
"Yeah it's great and it must feel great being the first rabbit officer," John said
"It feels amazing it was a difficult journey but it was worth it," I say
"That's good to hear," John said
Mr. Wilde removed his measuring tape, which didn't take long. In a few weeks, I will get my uniform. Maybe getting altered if it doesn't fit right. I get off the stool and place the notebook in a box.
"Well you'll get your uniform in two weeks," John said "You're top of the list."
"That sounds good," I say "It was nice to meet you."
"Agreed Miss Hopps," John said
I walk out of the room and walk for a few minutes. Mr. Wilde comes out with his things and I watch him walk away. Other cadets stare at him as he walks out of the academy. He stops for a second as if he sees someone before he leaves. I walk back over to the sleeping quarters. There's no one else here so I'm alone. So I head up to my bed and sit on it. I take out my phone to take some time for myself. I head to Fieldbook and look around at some posts. Just regular posts that I like seeing. As I scroll I look to see posts about friends and family having more kits. I have seen a lot of those posts.
"As always so many kits," I say
I have a smile on my face and I always love seeing young kits. I looked at Elaine's post and she had another set of kits five this time. Three boys and two girls all of them look so cute. Of course, Elaine posts that she's so blessed. There's a smile on her face. I look to see that Gaylee is tagged mammally and so are other family members. I give a love reaction to not crash any drama. I scroll past more posts and react to posts that I like.
I look to see a post from Demetrius with his kits. They are spending time outside and had a lot of fun in the snow. I see many snow rabbits. There are sleds in the background so they went sledding as well. Meadowlands would have a lot of fun hills to sled on. There are huge smiles on their faces. Snow time is a lot of fun. I head over to the comments and they're mostly good comments. Like from ex-wife Savannah they're on good terms. I do see a few that judge them for being divorced. Including Eliane of course, would say that. She doesn't believe in divorce and thinks those who have them are failures.
Judy Looks like you had a lot of fun in the snow. I remember those days as so much fun.
I type that out and post it a few moments later. I do get a love comment from Ceres and Demetrius a few minutes later. I look at some more posts. When I get done with what I wanted to see and react to. I pick on the post to make a post and I begin to type my post.
Today I got fitted into my ZPD uniform and it was a fantastic time. It means that I will be a police officer soon, That I will patrol the streets and make the world a better place. #I'malmostapoliceofficer #Topartolandmaketheworldabetterplace.
I post my post and I know it's going to get different reactions. That's what always happens. I knew that was going to happen and I dealt with it. I head out of Fieldbook and just lay on my bed. I'll be heading off to dinner soon. Tonight is baked potatoes. You make your own. There are some salads and bug-related dishes for the predators. I'm going to have baked potatoes and a large salad. A few minutes later I get on Fieldbook again and I see that I have a lot of notifications. I look at the reactions. It's a mix of like, haha, angry, and a few love reactions. There are a good amount of comments as well. Most are congratulations even when most don't truly mean it.
Ceres That's great Judy
Demetrius, Soon you'll be a cop
Gaylee That's fantastic Judy you're almost there
Elaine, It's a waste of fabric you're not going to be a cop. You won't be able to pawdle it. Rabbits or hares are not cops! Get to reality Judy before you hurt yourself. ?
Stu Oh deer it's getting closer.
Bonnie We hope that you're not going to Zootopia but staying here for you will be safe and sound. Then you can find the right buck and settle down.
Catherynne You got this
Barbara Yes that's great Judy
Shara, I hope your dream comes true soon
Devin Wow still at it I thought you would let go of that pathetic dream of yours. Rabbits are not cops and never will be. You're crazy doe I'm glad we broke up.
I'm glad that I got some supportive comments that make me feel good. I knew that Elaine was going to be harsh and Devin was one of my boyfriends. He never supported my dream and made fun of it. So the relationship didn't last long. Of course, dad would be worried and they would want me working at home. I know that won't happen for I will be living in Zootopia.
"Sorry, mom and dad it won't happen," I say
I will be patrolling the streets of Zootopia. I can feel it. Now it's just a matter of weeks. It's still going to be so great. I look at the time and see that it's dinner time. For dinner, it goes from six to eight. You can take your time eating dinner because there's a lot of chatter. They have talked to me some. They were first shocked to see me.
I'm finally here at the academy. A part of my dream will finally come true. I wish it came earlier but it's better late than never. I didn't have to go far because the academy is in Bunnyburrow. I'm going to stay at the academy because it's not worth the trouble to keep traveling back. I'm used to bunking with others. But this time it will be different since they're not family. Also that they will be predators and bigger than me. It's going to be strange sleeping with them.
"I'm finally here!" I say
I'm so excited that I am finally here and I will prove to them that I can be a police officer. I will make the world a better place. The academy is amazing and more so in mammal. So many police officers are trained here and soon I will be one of them. My name will be on the wall of cops. I will prove that rabbits can be more than farmers or florists. That we can be more than large families.
"What is she doing here? A rabbit doesn't belong."
"She must be one of the cooks,"
I look at the wall of names and soon I will be on that wall. I walk over to the room where we have classes we're supposed to meet there. It doesn't take long to find it because there's a sign pointing the way. The door is open so I don't have to open it. I head inside the room and I see that others are there. Both predators and prey and none are the size of me. Darn, I wish there was prey my size even if I would take a predator.
"Hey, rabbit, the kitchen is on the other side of the academy."
"I hope you know how to do bug dishes."
That stops me in my tracks; others were like that. I was to focus on seeing the wall of names. They really think that one of the cooks. I knew that I was going to get comments like that. But this feels harsher than I imagine. I tap my right foot on the ground.
"I'm not the cook I'm a cadet like you," I say
"A rabbit trying to be a cop that's crazy. You're not going to last rabbit go back home,"
I hear laughter and snickers from them, I knew it was going to happen and I have heard it before. It's so annoying that they do that. How can mammals be so small-minded? I will keep my emotions in control. I won't lose them in front of them. I will show them I am capable of being a police officer.
"My name is Judy Hopps and I will show you all," I say "I'll be a cop and patrol the streets of Zootopia"
"Dream on Judy you're not going to last a week."
"A week that's putting it nicely she won't last a day."
Watching them agree with each other and talk with each other. I shake my head. I will last and I will show them all. I head to a long desk behind them and I get on the chair. Of course, the chair is too big for me. I can barely see over the desk. I can deal with that for now. Other cadets come in and they whisper about me. They have the first laugh but I will have the last laugh.
I did have the last laugh because I became the top of the class. It was harder than I first realized but I did it. I get off my bed and head over to get some dinner. I walk over to the dining area and most of the cadets are there. Luckily for me, there's no line so I head to get my food. I chose two baked potatoes that are good for me. I cut them with a knife. I add some butter, cheese, different peppers, chives, cilantro, basil, guacamole, and sour cream. I also get a medium size salad and some apple cider. Taking a seat at the small table for mammals my size and I don't mind eating alone. I have grown to like it no more elbows bumping into me. I take a sip of the hot apple cider and it's great. I take a bite of my baked potato and it's great. I enjoy my meal and I hear chatter among them. They have talked to me more.
"So Judy, what made you want to become a cop?"
Looking over to the table and seeing a group of cadets sitting together. This is the first time they asked why I wanted to be a police officer. I have heard their stories and they are good stories. I hoped that they would want to find out why I wanted to be a cop.
"It happened one day when I was a young doe," I say
School is a lot of fun and I'm learning a lot. I have heard a lot of things about school from my older siblings. It was either good, bad, or somewhere in between. Jude and I think that school is a lot of fun. We get to learn, play, eat, and take naps. I hope it's like that for all our school years. We have to go to school for twelve years. Even more, if you want to go to college. That's forever to learn and don't know how the brain keeps it all. Jude and I sit with Sharla who's a friend of ours and Steve who's a deer. There's a meanie named Gideon Grey and his friend Travis who sit in the back. We sit at a small table of four. They're colorful tables and chairs. We sit on a blue one. Our teacher is Mrs. Besty Shellstone, an armadillo. She has purple glasses, wears a blue and white blouse, and a blue skirt.
"Today class we're going to talk about our future careers for your book," Besty said
We have been making a book about ourselves and we do it on our own. Having help if we need it. Making this box has been a lot of fun. Jude and I have been having a lot of fun. Our sibling page was filled since we have so many siblings. We couldn't fit them all. It's hard to do when you have over a hundred siblings. I take out a marker for writing with a marker. It is a lot of fun. Jude writes with a crayon.
"I want to be a carpenter since I'm a woodchuck."
"I want to be a trash collector since I'm a raccoon,"
"I want to bake with nuts since I'm a squirrel."
I look at my paper and I don't know what to write. It's hard to do and Steve has written down what he wants to be. Besty is walking around and helping out classmates. I hear her walking over to us.
"A carrot farmer," Besty said
"But I don't want to be a carrot farmer. Why do I want that? Is it because I'm a rabbit?" I say "What if I can be a chef, a paramedic, or a lawyer."
"Judy, some mammals are better at things than others. Like rabbits are fantastic farmers." Besty said "When I was your age I wanted to be a firefighter but armadillos don't pawdle pressure. Think about it after recess."
"Recess!" Jude and I say
Recess is a lot of fun because we get to play. Of course, classmates love recess. We all quickly walk over to the playground. We have a good one and it's a lot of fun.
"I will race you to the lemur bars," Jude said
"You on Jude," I say
Jude and I love racing each other. As for winning it seems to be close. I win then he will win and so on. Sometimes we will tie. We go off after a few moments and we run. I run as fast as I can and Jude does as well. I run so fast and I touch the lemur bar first. Jude just barely misses and we high-paw each other.
"Great race Judy," Jude said
"Thanks, Jude and it was," I say
I climb the lemur bars and begin to climb across. I'm so good at the lemur bars I can skip bars, hang, and go backward. Jude loves hanging on the lemur bars and hanging upside down. Those mommy and daddy don't like that. They think it's too dangerous. Jude and I enjoy the lemur bars. By going across a few times and hanging on the top.
"Oh look a crowd is gathering," I say
"Let's go," Jude said
Jude and I jump down; we don't do that in front of our parents. They would freak out if they saw us doing that. We head over to the crowd that's gathering. Jude and I see that Bobby Catmull is struck in the tree again. Gideon and Travis laugh quietly.
"Call the police!" Besty said, "Bobby, you can climb down like last time."
Mrs. Besty Shellstone runs over to the tree in a panic. She does this when something serious happens. Well, it doesn't happen a lot. Looking back at the tree, Bobby has climbed higher. How did he do that? I guess he's really good at climbing trees just not getting down.
"That branch is unstable."
Jim is right, the branch he's on is a weak one. Bobby holds onto the tree but he would still fall. I heard a rumor that cats can always land on their feet. I think it deals with their long tails. Even if he did that would hurt a lot. The branch cracks and Mrs. Besty Shellstone has fainted and I see her laser pointer. She uses that to point to stuff and I can do that. I take it and point to each different branch. Bobby climbs down as he sees how to. The weak branch snaps moments later and it will fall whenever it's windy. It takes a few minutes to get Bobby down.
"Judy, that was amazing!" Jude said
"Thank you Judy I was so scared." Bobby said, "Once I knew where to go I wasn't scared."
"You're welcome," I say
"Good work Judy, that was great work. You helped someone out today and that's what a great cop does."
Looking up to see a police officer and she's a lynx. I have seen around Bunnyburrow and she loves pawing out stickers. We love getting stickers are so much. I do like keeping them on paper. She paws me a fake badge that says a junior police officer. I wear it with pride. I know what I want to do with my life. I want to be a police officer.
Bobby helped with the music in our little play and he does music for his job now. That was some day I went in not knowing what I wanted to be when I grew up knowing. I was doubted when I said I wanted to be a police officer. I didn't stop my dream and I'm here now. I take a few bites of my baked potato.
"That's a good story,"
"Yes, you were a hero that day."
"Thank you guys and it was a great day," I say
I'm glad that they're accepting me now and they do mean it. Working with them would be great and some will be working in Zootopia. I take a bite of my salad. Thinking about that story I can't wait to protect and serve. My career as a police officer is going to be great.
I can't believe that today is the day I graduate and become a police officer. I have been waiting for this moment since I realized that I wanted to be a police officer. Today is going to be a great day. Soon I find where I will patrol and it's going to be great. I will be living in Zootopia. Some of my family is in the crowd. Demetrius and Ceres are in the crowd as well and we're going to meet up tonight for a nice dinner. Gaylee and her husband will join us. It's going to be a great meal.
"As of tomorrow, I will be a police officer," I whisper
Today is a nice early spring day and perfect weather to have an outdoor ceremony. It's a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. The weather is warm and the sun is shining. I stand tall wearing one of my police uniforms which I wear for something like this. I also have mine that I will wear when I patrol the streets. I will make the world a better place. Mayor Lionheart gets on the podium wearing a navy blue suit, white dress shirt, and red tie. He heads to the microphone stand. There's the assistant mayor Dawn Bellwether, a sheep. It's nice to have a prey as mayor and it balances it out.
"As mayor of Zootopia, I'm pleased to announce MY Mammal Inclusion Initiative has produced its police academy graduate," Leodore said
Wow, the mayor is talking about me and I stand more proud. It's thanks to this selfless mayor that I was able to become a cop. I'm glad that it's working out for him. I hope others like me find success and follow their dreams. Everyone should follow their dream and being a certain mammal shouldn't stop them.
"Valediction of her class, ZPD's first rabbit officer….Judy Hopps." Leodore said
I walk over to the stage and I hear cheering for me. It's like my high school and college graduation but this is much better. This is the greatest graduating feeling. I stand on the stage lost in the moment. Lionheart and Dawn stand before me.
"Assistant mayor Mayor Dawn Bellwether her badge."
"Oh! Yes right," Dawn said
"Thank you," Leodore said
Dawn does have my badge in her right paw and she heads over to me. Placing my official badge on me. It feels so great I'm another step closer to being an official police officer. Soon I will patrol the streets.
"Judy, it is my great privilege to officially assign you to the heart of the city Precinct One, City Center," Leodore said
Oh my gosh oh my gosh this is a dream come true I get to work in Zootopia. It's even greater that I get to work in the heart of the city. Now making the world a better place is going to be so great. Even with the loud noise, I can hear my parents' shock. I know they weren't expecting this. I wasn't either so it's why I'm so gleeful. They wanted me to stay at home.
"Congratulations, Officer Hopps," Dawn said
"I won't let you down. This has been my dream since I was a little kit." I say
"Ya, you know it's a….It's a real proud day for us little guys." Dawn said
Dawn and I hold paws and that's true. It is also a proud day for smaller prey and predators. For a moment like this is an uncommon event for us. I hope that I give the courage for prey to follow their dreams. Just like I did.
"Bellwether make room will ya? Come on." Leodore said, "Okay, Officer Hopps. Let's see those teeth!"
Photographers are here and I give them my best smile. I got ready for this because I knew I was going to be in the spotlight. It was weird and still feels weird. Just seeing so many lights and cameras is strange. Lionheart stands next to me and so does Bellwether.
Alright, everything is packed up and I'm ready to go. I don't have a lot because I'm moving into a small apartment and will add more stuff later. I'm taking the train because that's what I wanted to do. Gaylee, Demetrius, and Ceres were fine with that. Now it's official that my next trip is going to be to Zootopia. A place I'm going to live in and patrol the streets. Keeping Zootopians safe and making the world a better place. My family is here to see me off.
"We're proud of you, Judy," Bonnie said
"Yeah. Scared too." Stu said
"Yes," Bonnie said
"It's a proud scared combo. I mean, Zootopia. It's so far away and it's such a big city."
"Guys I have been working for this my whole life," I say
I have a not-surprised look on my face. I knew this was going to be like this. My parents are predictable. It does get annoying but I love them. Zootopia isn't that far away it's two hundred-eleven miles away from Zootopia. It takes about three hours to drive there and a train is faster and doesn't have to deal with traffic.
"We know. And we're just worried, a little excited for you, but terrified."
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself," I say
That's one of my favorite quotes and I stand by it. For it's a good quote to stand by. I remember hearing the quote for the first time in middle school and I decided to stand by it. There are other quotes that I stand by as well. Looking at my dad I can see his fear.
"And also bears. We have bears to fear, too. To say nothing of lions and wolves," Stu said
"Wolves?"
"Weasels,"
"You play cribbage with a weasel," Bonnie said
"He cheats like there's no tomorrow. You know what pretty much all predators and Zootopia's full of them." Stu said
"Oh Stu," Bonnie said
Mom scolds dad for his rudeness. Well, there's more prey than predators in Zootopia. More than half are prey and the rest are predators. While here in Bunnyburrow prey outnumber the predators. The majority of the prey are rabbits and hares. He does play cribbage once a week with prey and predators. He does enjoy playing.
"And foxes are the worst," Stu said
"Actually, your father does have a point there. It's in their biology. Remember what happened with Gideon Grey?"
"When I was nine Gideon Grey was a jerk, who happened to be a fox. I know plenty of rabbits who are jerks."
I knew that they were going to bring up foxes and I was waiting for that moment. Also, I knew that they would bring up Gideon Grey. I did write down a police officer in my book those it was badly paw-written since I didn't know how to spell police officer. Then in third grade we did that play and I announced it to the community. Gideon was just a jerk and it had nothing to do with him being a fox. I know rabbits and hares that are jerks.
"Sure. Yeah, we all do. Absolutely. Just in case we made you a little care package to take with you."
"And I put some snacks in there," Bonnie said
Dad drops a pink bag and I won't be taking that. I know what's going to be in there. Sure I will take the snacks but not what else is in there. I won't be needing them. I want to go but I will have to hear dad out. Dad begins to pull them out.
"This is fox deterrent," Stu said
"Yeah, that's safe to have," Bonnie said
"This is fox repellent," Stu said
"Okay, the deterrent and the repellent. That's all she needs." Bonnie said
"Check this out," Stu said
Dad pulls out a taser where did he get a taser? That's something that a normal mammal shouldn't have. It's too over the top and should only be used to take down a criminal that's not listening and is causing trouble. I don't need any of this. But they won't be quiet if I don't take anything.
"Oh for goodness sake. She has no need for a fox taser Stu." Bonnie said
"Oh, c'mon when is there not a need for a fox taser?" Stu asked
"Okay….I will take this to make you stop talking." I say
I take the fox repellent I knew that they weren't going to stop talking. At least mom has some common sense. I take the snacks as well which are in a small bag. I hear the train come up. It's almost time.
"Terrific! Everyone wins!" Stu said
" Arriving Zootopia Express!"
"Okay I got to go," I say
I can't believe that it's finally time to go to Zootopia. To go to my future as a police officer and to make the world a better place. I head over to the train holding my head high. Okay, this is it Judy your truly almost there. It's going to be so great. Other mammals walk out of the train and get on as well.
"Oh look at her Bon living her dream," Stu said
"Oh, she's coming back., Bonnie said
As I walk emotions come to me and I know mom and dad are holding back their tears. It's nice knowing they know I'm living my dream. I didn't hug them and I should do that before I go. I stop at the train and run back to them and giving them a hug.
"I love you guys," I say
"Love you too!" Bonnie said
We have one more squeeze and I'm going to miss them. I'm going to miss my family a lot. Not so much as the harsh ones. It's going to be strange sleeping and living alone. I head on the train.
"Oh cripes here comes the waterworks., Stu said
"Oh Stu, pull it together." Bonnie said
"Bye, everyone!" I say
"Bye Judy. I love you!"
"Bye!"
"Baby!" Stu said
"Okay. hon let it out." Bonnie said
"Our baby! Molly is on the train! Dad, take the kits home and watch out for Timmy he's a biter."
"I'm not changing any diapers," Pop-Pop said While holding Timmy as he nibbs his arm
"Judy oh!" Molly said
The train moves as I see my family pass by. I shouldn't be saving this but my favorite niece waves goodbye as she walks. Soon I will be in Zootopia and Judy has no idea what's going on outside. Watching Bunnyburrow pass by and the sign with the growing population never stops. I take out my iPod and I begin to listen to Try Everything. I'm lost in my own world. Molly fell onto the train looking around.
Meanwhile Bonnie and Stu were having their own adventure chasing down the train with the Hopps truck. Bonnie drove the truck with surprising skills while Stu was worrying. But still saving the dad as Bonnie was digging in her bag for her phone. Saving them from almost hitting Gideon as he drove his company truck eating a pie. Judy had no idea that Molly and her parents were having a crazy adventure to Zootopia. Not answering her phone because she was lost in Try Everything. Bonnie drove and Stu went on top of the train trying to get Judy's attention. Even crazier as they got to Zootopia. As Stu experienced each district and was saved by umbrella and Bonnie as she drove. They went over a jump as they got to the train station. Molly still following Judy was almost crushed and pushed to where a train was coming. Molly was saved by Stu and Bonnie at the last moment. Then once again Molly went on a train heading back to Bunnyburrow. Bonnie and Stu were ready and Bonnie put on a blue carrot bandanna and they ran. Until Stu's back became sore and Bonnie help him back to the truck without a hood. They would have a story that wouldn't be believed but did happen.
Author note, Hello there been some time for life got in the way again. Don't worry life won't always get in the way. It has just been crazy for me. I can't believe that it's been seven years so I had to watch Zootopia again. We finally got a sequel and it's going to be great. It's going to be the first animated movie I will see in theaters if they still exist in a few years. Gaylee is the same character and will always be in different stories. It's easy to tell what's Gaylee story and why she's treated differently by some rabbits and hares. I wanted to that element to my stories. Trying to show different ways of life. Judy's story of wanting to be a cop is based on the deleted opening scene. I liked it and changed it to what it is in my story. Adding my own element to it. I really liked Judy saving Bobby from the tree. Lemur bars are monkey bars obliviously. Added the graduate scene to add Judy's thoughts and train scene with the "canon adventure with Bonnie, Stu, and Molly. I just did the summary of it and wasn't going to write out a ten-minute short. One of the few bad things about the shorts. Until next time readers.
