I apologise for another late chapter, I had a bit of writers block when attempting to write up the court martial in such a way that it sounds correct and would like the chapters you read to be the best they can be. Chapter 8 Interrogations, Court Martials, Training and a mission to Casmir.
(0800 Hours/ 23rd August 1997/ UNSC Cruiser Lyonesse/ Location Commander 117's Office, UNSC Lyonesse, Earth orbit)
It had been a long week for John. A few days after sending down Spartan teams Red, Green and Black to UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, he received the reply to his requisition forms for the new armour plates, cybernetic arm and shield projectors. The response was that the Cybernetic arm would take roughly two months to fully construct but replacement parts in the meantime would be created and sent to allow for B-320 to be sent on the relevant operations. The shield projectors for Onyx and Gauntlet teams would take two months to create as well. The new Mjolnir armour plates on the other hand would take roughly five to six months to forge as they would require specialised moulds for the new plates and the time to perfect the forging of Titanium-A metal. The other reason things would take so long was that the factories that were needed to produce the replacement equipment for the Spartan's armour was still in the process of being set up. The smaller parts for Kat's arm could be replaced till a new and more efficient arm could be constructed. He had also been sending the Spartans down two teams at a time to get some experience with travelling through the Stargate and then dialling home using the DHD and the IDC remotes. He remembered the day that Spartan Blue team went down to UNSC Cheyenne Mountain.
- Flashback -
(1000 Hours/ 20th August 1997/ UNSC Cheyenne Mountain/ Location Briefing Room)
Spartan Blue and Gamma teams were sat in the briefing room of Stargate Command in UNSC Cheyenne Mountain. Gamma Team were wearing only the parts of their armour that was not damaged. For William that meant his helmet, chest plate, the thigh and bicep plates and the boots. Anton was wearing his helmet, chest plate, leg armour and boots. Keiichi was armoured in her helmet, chest plate, forearm plates and boots. They had been in the waiting room for roughly 5 minutes when General Hammond walked into the room from his office. The Spartans immediately spun to face him and saluted nearly in unison. Hammond who had somewhat become accustomed to the speed and synchronicity of the Spartans saluted back.
"Well, I believe the first thing we should do is introduce ourselves. I am sure you are aware that I am General Hammond. It is a pleasure to meet you all." Hammond said.
"Thank you sir, I am Commander Serra 117." The Chief introduced.
"I am Senior Chief Petty Officer Serra 104 sir." Fred responded.
"Petty Officer 1st Class Serra 087 sir." Kelly said.
"Petty Officer 1st Class Serra 058 sir."
"Petty Officer 2nd Class Serra 043 sir."
"Petty Officer 2nd Class Serra 044 sir."
"Petty Officer 2nd Class Serra 047 sir."
"Well now that I know who I am speaking to, at 1230 hours you will be travelling through the Stargate to the Alpha site. You will also be taking with you the personnel making up SG teams 10 through 14 as they will need some experience of gate travel. You will be returning through the Stargate one at a time so that you each have a chance at dialling Earth and sending through the IDC. Once through you will be given a quick tour of the SGC and then you are free to return to the Lyonesse. Are there any questions?" Hammond finished. There was shaking heads all round as all the Spartans understood how things would be done and why. "Good for now I shall have one of the men escort you to the mess hall. Chief you will be shown to the Officer's mess. Dismissed." Hammond said before standing up and heading back to his office. The Spartans were then shown the way to the relevant mess halls.
For lunch the two teams headed to the mess hall where the Spartans bar Chief would be seated with Red team who were still deployed. The group walked into the mess hall and retrieved their trays. They then were treated to either a red moon salmon curry or a garlic stir fry. There were also vegetables and custard or apple pies for deserts. John on the other hand went to the officers mess where he found a table of to the back of the room where he took his meat loaf chef's special with green beans, potato and two slices of bread with an rhubarb crumble for desert.
At exactly 1230 hours, Spartan Blue and Gamma teams were formed up in the gate room ready to head out to the alpha site. Once the gate opened, the seven Spartans had headed through the gate with the members of SG teams 10 through 14 behind them. Once at the Alpha site, The Spartans immediately spun around ready to return to Earth as quickly as possible. The SG teams went to explore the Alpha site to familiarise themselves with the site should they be directed there for one reason or another. As soon as the gate shut down William started to press the buttons to open a wormhole to Earth again. Once the wormhole was open, he sent through the IDC and waited a few seconds before returning to Earth. The same process happened for each of the Spartans. Soon all the Spartans had returned and Red team took them on a quick tour of the garrison before they returned to their pelican and returned to the Lyonesse.
- End of Flashback -
John had just finished reading the report from Leon about the progress they had with the second Stargate and the DHD from Antarctica. The Stargate had now been extracted and was being sent to a new facility that was being built in Nevada. It was to be the new location that the SGC would be operating out of. The DHD had also been extracted and was en route to the new location. Just then He received three new reports. They were from Red Team.
"Kelly, I have three new reports here. They are from Red team. Look through Joshua and Isaac's reports while I look through Vinh's and the main mission report from the SGC." He ordered sending the relevant reports over to her TACPAD.
"Understood John. Got 'em." Kelly replied quickly.
As John read through the report he got more and more worried about what had occurred on Avnil. It was clear that Captain Jonas Hanson needed to undergo a court martial. Unfortunately, his Spartans would need to testify at the trial as witnesses to some of the offences. As such he found out who was going to be in charge of the court martial. One General Alexander Harley.
"Cortana, I need you to set up a call with General Alexander Harley of the Adjutant General Corps. Tell him it's urgent." John ordered Cortana as soon as here avatar popped up on the table.
"Yes Commander. He is ready to speak with you. It's on your comms." She told him after a minute.
"Thank you. General Harley, it's Commander 117 of the Spartans I need to discuss a report that has just been filled by one of my Spartan teams that I am sure you are going to get within the next few minutes if not already have." The Chief told him.
"Commander, it is nice to finally speak to you. Your reputation precedes you. I am aware of the report that you are talking about. I believe you are referring to the report I just received from Lieutenant Connor on SG-9's mission to the planet Avnil, are you not?" The general asked.
"That is correct sir, I called because one of my Spartan teams was involved with bringing Captain Hanson and Lieutenant Baker back to Earth for questioning and trial. This means that at least one of my Spartans if not three of them have the possibility of be called up to the stands to testify. I request that you ensure that the defence and prosecution do not stray from the topic of what occurred on Avnil. This is because the Spartan Project is classified as top secret to the point where only those in the UNSC Security Council and Navy Command know only some of the details. There are some that are classified so high that nobody is allowed to know but those involved with the program in some way shape or form. It would be even better if they only had to be there to verify the video footage from their helmet cameras." The Chief told him. General Harley realised the seriousness of what he was saying by the fact that even the UNSC Security Council did not know the full details.
"Commander, I assure you that should anybody questioning your Spartans deviate from the topic of exactly what occurred on Avnil, they will immediately reprimanded and your Spartans will be ordered not to answer any questions not approved by what we agree on. I will try to have it so they only have to verify their helmet camera footage." The general informed him.
"Thank you sir. I will have my senior NCO send a list of appropriate questions to you to hand to the prosecutor and the defence. Thank you again sir." Chief replied.
"No worries Commander, I look forward to the list." General Harley replied before the call closed.
John immediately turned to Kelly. "Kelly as soon as you have finished reading the reports. Create a list of appropriate questions for each Vinh, Joshua and Isaac for the trial. Then file the reports." John ordered. Kelly nodded in acknowledgement before moving onto the next piece of paperwork he had been sent. Five minutes later, John received a call from Admiral Keyes.
"Chief, I have just gotten around to reading the reports coming out of 'the mountain' about the mission to Avnil. I understand that Red team was involved and will need to testify. Do you have any ideas on how to stop questions about your training and missions?" Keyes asked him.
"Sir, I have already spoken to Adjutant General Harley who will be overseeing the trial. We have spoken about it and Serra 087 is currently devising a list appropriate questions for each of the Spartans." Chief replied.
"Should have known that the Spartans would be ahead of me. Anyway, NAVCOM will be having a meeting tomorrow. You need to be there in case the Spartans are discussed." Keyes told him.
"Understood sir. I will be there with 087 to ensure to answer any questions or allay any concerns about the Spartans." Chief replied.
"Good man Chief. I shall see you tomorrow for at the pelican taking us to the meeting. Be at the pelican in Hanger 2 for 0830 hours. Keyes out." Keyes said before cutting off the transmission.
( 0830 Hours/ August 24th 1997/ UNSC Cruiser Lyonesse/ Location Hanger Bay 2, UNSC Lyonesse, High Earth Orbit)
John and Kelly, knowing they were headed for a meeting with NAVCOM, wore their No1 dress uniforms. John's consisted of a peaked cap, a light grey tunic with a matching pair of trousers and a pair of black oxford style shoes. Kelly's was made up of the female variant of the peaked cap, a light grey tunic with matching pair of trousers and a pair of black shoes. Both of them had their medal ribbons displayed across their chests. The number of medals meant that they actually didn't have every one of their medals there, one of each of the medals they earnt excluding the major awards such as the UNSC Legion of Honour and Colonial Crosses. They walked into the hanger bay and made their way directly to the pelican that would be delivering them planet-side.
"Commander, PO1, it is good to see you." Keyes greeted to two of them. "Pilot, lets head down to the meeting." Keyes said turning to the pilot.
"Welcome to the fleet express. Sit down and strap in. Your destination is the old NATO headquarters in Brussels former Belgium. Enjoy the ride ladies and gentlemen." The pilot said over the tannoy after the ram had closed. 20 minutes later the pelican was coming into land at the rear of the building on the grass patches as close to the footpath as possible. "Ladies and Gentlemen, you have reached your final destination. Please pick up any luggage you brought with you and have a nice day." The pilot said as they landed. The three of them as well as Keyes' aid, Lieutenant Neville Lance, made their way to the meeting room.
The meeting began at 0900 hours and so John and Kelly sat down in the chairs that were obviously for them and got ready for the meeting. Five minutes after they entered the room, the meeting began with Admiral Sir Jock Slater and Admiral Jay L. Johnson sitting down.
John recalled that Admiral Jock Slater was in charge of all waterborne naval assets and Admiral Jay Johnson was in command of all naval assets in space. Currently, Naval Command (NAVCOM) was heavily slanted towards Admiral Slater's side of the Navy as most of the fleet was still of the traditional ships that sailed on the oceans and seas. However, Admiral Johnson's side of the navy was slowly growing with the slow but steady decommissioning and scrapping of the old naval assets that wouldn't be used once the UNSC Navy had transitioned to being a spacefaring navy.
"Rear Admiral Keyes, I believe you wished to raise an issue?" Admiral Johnson asked first.
"Yes Sir. The issue is that we have a ship building program that has been decided on for our future fleet. However, the fleet I brought here has battle scars and damage. I propose that the Mariner and Phoenix class ships be put on hold for a short period of time." Keyes said. This elicited a large amount of confusion from the rest of NAVCOM.
"Why would we do that? We need these ships to be able to move supplies and build a new colony." One of the admirals, who john had not heard of asked.
"I propose this because these two classes of ship will take time to build. As such while we stockpile the supplies necessary to build them, we use the two drydocks to repair the damage done to my fleet. The Cruisers Pillar of Autumn and Red Wall need repairs and as such would be sent down first to enact the necessary repairs. The Red Wall has some quite serious damage as one of her secondary reactors has malfunctioned. I argue this because what is the use in having twelve ships in orbit when most of them have sustained damage that could hamper them in a fight that may come sooner rather than later?" Keyes answered knowing that the rest of NAVCOM would now agree with him.
"I agree with RADM Keyes, these ships need to be repaired and ready for action. If that means that means they have to take up some space while we stockpile the resources for other ships then so be it. The crew and Army soldiers will also be able to get some shore leave in that case." One of the admirals argued.
"Why don't we build a shipyard up there to refit and repair the ships? Why not build it up in the Oort Cloud or above Mars?" The admiral who questioned Keyes asked. This got some interested looks but utter bewilderment from those who knew about the logistics of it.
"The reason to do the repairs on Earth is because first, it will allow us to see how strong the shipyards are and second, to be able to build them some of the parts would be manufactured in the shipyards here on earth anyway and we would then have to use the damaged ships to pull them into locations where we have less of a presence and would make the shipyards easier to attack requiring more resources to repair or rebuild them. Also as the admiral stated it will give the troops an easy way to disembark and give the crew shore leave while the ships are being repaired." Keyes argued swaying everyone to his side.
"Does the Naval Special Warfare Command have anything to discuss at the meeting?" Admiral Slater asked changing the topic.
"Sir, due to the actions of a select few from the SGC, one of my Spartan teams will be at a court martial on August 27th to possibly testify." John replied to Admiral Slater.
"Thank you Commander." Slater said to John. "Does Navy Logistical Operations Command have anything?" Slater went on to ask.
The meeting dragged on about the logistics of the decommissioning all those ships and then scrapping them as well as the need to retrain all of those crews for the new UNSC fleet. They also talked about the logistical nightmare that was setting up the factories for producing the materials necessary for building the shipyards and the ships that were to be built there as well as the ODPs that were planned.
After that Slater went on to talk about how his small squadron was meshing together to defeat these pirates and build the new aircraft carrier. Once he finished the meeting was over and John, Kelly, Keyes and his aid headed back to the Lyonesse.
(Time unknown/ date unknown/ Interrogation Room/ Location unknown)
Captain Jonas Hanson had just returned to consciousness after having been knocked out on Avnil. The person who had hit him had hit him so hard that he was out for a good long while and now he had a blind fold on so he could not see. He also was now in handcuffs and not the uncomfortable zip ties they had used on him on Avnil. All he knew was that he was sat down on a chair in a dark room.
He heard the noise of a door opening and a person walking into the room. They walked in and then he heard the sound of a chair scrapping across the floor and a person sitting in it. The blind fold was removed and a bright light was shone in his face. She then began his interrogation.
"State your name, Rank and unit." The person he could now identify as a female ordered.
"Jonas Hanson, God of the people of Avnil." Hanson replied.
"I will ask you again what is your rank and unit. If you do not answer, you will be subjected to procedures that will make you talk." The woman told him. Hanson still refused to answer.
The woman got up and walked to the door. She banged on the door and a moment later two people walked in and suddenly injected him with something.
"What is you rank and unit Hanson?" she asked again.
"Captain, SG-9." He answered. He suddenly realised that he said something and was astonished they had made him answer.
"Captain, are you aware of the charges levelled against you?" She asked.
"Murder, attempted murder and dereliction of duty." Jonas answered not being able to overcome whatever they had given him.
"Good. Another charge has been levelled against you from the reports of Red Team. That charge is the forcing the local population to wok to their deaths. I have Lieutenant Connor's report on what happened on Avnil. Did you go against regulations and pose as their God?" She asked.
"I hate that word. Stop using it. I am not posing." Hanson replied angrily still believing he was the Avnilian's God.
"Well Captain, what word would you use to describe what you were doing?" She asked.
"I am their God. They need me. They believe in me. And because they believe, I will lead them out of the caves. It is better than rotting in the caves in squalor. I am building a civilisation, a great people." Hanson said passionately.
"I imagine that they would be in your image." She stated.
"Yes, they will be a great people. You will see." He said with vigour.
"How did you intend to do that with the increased UV radiation that the planet has?" The woman asked.
"The Goa'uld left something behind. The local folklore said that it would turn the sky orange and protect the people from the sun sickness." Hanson answered.
"So how would working the people that worshipped you as their god to death be beneficial?" She asked.
"Mere survival for my people will require unquestioning faith if I am to lead them to the promised land. I am merely separating the wheat from the chaff." Hanson answered.
"We will now move onto the second charge. Did you murder Lieutenant Frakes when he attempted to return to Earth though the Stargate?" She asked.
"How do you know I was the one that killed him and not one of my people?" Hanson asked noticing that whatever they had given him was wearing off slowly.
"Spartan Red team recovered an 9x19mm round and casing from the grave of Lieutenant Thomas Frakes. After inspecting the weapons that were recovered from yourself and Lieutenant Baker, we discovered that your M9 pistol had been fired recently. Lieutenant Baker's rifle does not fire that type of ammunition. You and the cloak you wore were also tested and came back positive for gunshot residue." She explained to him. "Also, if it was one of 'your' people that had killed Lieutenant Frakes, by definition you would be responsible for his death as both his superior officer and the 'leader' of those that murdered him." She continued saying 'leader' with derision.
Hanson just looked at her with no emotions on his face.
"Now, considering the fact that you yourself murdered Lieutenant Frakes, I would think that you wouldn't have hesitated to do the same if you had caught Lieutenant Connor. Would you have murdered Lieutenant Connor the same way as you did to Lieutenant Frakes?" She asked.
"They needed to be made examples of for my people. They are demons who seek to destroy all my work." Hanson said with conviction.
"What about the people, that were in the reports from Connor and the team that brought lieutenant Baker into custody, that were tied to posts and left out in the sun?" She asked letting a small amount of anger into her voice. "What about the people you tortured?"
"They did not believe in me. So, the rest of my people had to see if they would survive for seven days. If so they were allowed back into the caves. It was punishment for the non-believers." Hanson said.
The woman stood up and left the room. Hanson sat there for a minute before he saw two men enter the room with a blind fold. They put the blindfold on him and moved him to through the building to another room. Once the blind fold was off, he saw it was a small room with a single bed with a toilet, sink, table and chair. This was his prison cell.
(1000 Hours/ 27th August 1997/ Hanson and Baker's Court Martial/ Location Court of Military Appeals Washington D.C. Former USA)
It was a bright sunny morning in Washington D.C. at the Court of Military Appeals. Normally there would be the normal hustle and bustle of a city where hundreds of thousands of people would be going to work or driving their kids to school. However, today was not a normal day at the courthouse as there was a crowd of reporters outside the building. They were there for the first court martial under the UNSC. At exactly 1000 hours, four Troop-hogs drove up to the pavement outside the courthouse being escorted by two warthogs in the LRV configuration. Out of the first of the troop hogs came Captain Jonas Hanson escorted by two marines and an ODST. Out of the second came Lieutenant Matthew Baker escorted by two marines and a Spartan. The third troop hog had five ODSTs pile out of it. Two more Spartans and Lieutenant Connor stepped out of the other warthogs. Once the groups got through the door of the courthouse, The ODSTs, Spartans and Lieutenant Connor split off from the four marines and two defendants as well as the four MPs that had joined them at the door. Spartan Red team, Alpha Nine and Lieutenant Connor all made their way over to Courtroom 6 where the trial would be held. Every step of the way they were bombarded with questions from the reporters.
At 1020 hours, Hanson and Baker were escorted into the courtroom where ten minutes later General Harley entered the room as the judge for the trial.
"All Rise." Rang out across the room as the general entered.
When Harley got to his position at the judge's seat he spoke. "Be seated everyone." And with that everyone sat down but the Spartans who were stood off to the side of the room.
"Today, we are here for the court martial of Captain Jonas Hanson and Lieutenant Matthew Baker of SG-9 vs the United Nations Space Command and United Earth Government. The charges are as follows: 1st, the murder of UNSC personnel namely Lieutenant Thomas Frakes. 2nd, the attempted murder of UNSC personnel namely Lieutenant Laurence Connor. 3rd Assisting in the murder of UNSC personnel namely Lieutenant Thomas Frakes. 4th, multiple counts of torture and murder of innocent civillians namely the people of Avnil. And 5th, dereliction of duty namely posing as a god to the people of Avnil. How do the defendants plead?" General Harley asked.
"Not Guilty." Hanson answered immediately.
"Guilty on counts 2, 3 and 4. Not guilty on counts 1 and 5." Baker answered. This caused a stir amongst the people watching the trial whether they were in the room or not.
"You pleads have been recorded. These will be taken into consideration if you are sentenced. The defence can make their opening statements." Harley responded.
The opening statements for the defence were based around prior service and the fact that they had been on a planet with high UV radiation levels for many weeks. The Prosecution did admit that over exposure to that much UV radiation would have lasting health problems but not to the extent that people would murder, torture and pose as a God. "Stop using that word I hate it!" Hanson shouted angrily from his seated position. This caused a ruckus from the crowds. "I am not posing. It is a matter of definition; my people need me. They believe in me. And because they believe, they work and fight for me." Hanson said calming down.
"Is that a confession in respect to charge 5?" Harley asked Hanson's lawyer.
"I am unsure sir." He replied.
"I am not posing as their god. I am their God." Hanson proclaimed.
"Confession to charge 5 by defendant Jonas Hanson." Harley announced to the courtroom. "The defence my begin its case." He continued.
The defence lawyer for Hanson, Lieutenant Aiden Miller, stood up. "I will first direct your attention to defence exhibit A. This is the evaluation of Captain Hanson for his suitability for his inclusion into Stargate Command. One passage reads - Captain Jonas Hanson has performed admirably in command of small elite units operating with limited equipment or communication with command. He has shown a strict following of protocol and shows no signs of mental instability. It is recommended that Captain Hanson is transferred to Stargate Command and assigned a team for off world missions. - This shows that Captain Jonas Hanson was a dedicated officer. I call Dr Freya Barrett to the stand." He spoke. A lady in her mid-thirties made her way over to the stand.
"Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help you God?" Miller asked.
"I do." Was her succinct response.
"Dr, according to the report from the Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe known as the 'MALP', the atmospheric conditions had a high UV radiation level. Would this have an effect on a person to the point of mental instability?" Miller asked.
"Well, the scientific answer is that it would cause sickness and maybe delirium. However, to cause the condition you are describing in Captain Hanson, there must have been other factors as well. One of those factors would be a need for control. This is evident in psychiatric cases of some people believing themselves to be some form of God." She answered. At the beginning of the explanation, miller had a slight smile on his face. Now he was frowning. Miller had based his entire case around someone who was affected by their time on Avnil. Now it looked like he had to base it on someone who was not mentally unstable for more reasons.
"So what you are saying is that Captain Hanson must have had some mental instability prior to his arrival on Avnil?" Miller asked.
"Correct, this could be caused by numerous things. They include people they have had bad experiences with of or locations where something bad happened among other things." She answered.
"Would working alongside your former fiancé cause mental instability?" Miller asked hoping for a good answer and being able to place blame on the SGC for what Hanson did.
"That could be a cause of mental instability yes. However, they would have to be working alongside them continuously for an extended period of time and it would have had to have been a particularly messy break up between the two people for someone to be mentally unstable to the point where high level UV radiation exposure would cause a case as severe as Captain Hanson's." She explained.
"Thank you Dr." Miller said somewhat annoyed that he had someone who was mad.
Dr Freya Barrett then left the stand. Lieutenant Miller went and sat down, knowing that sending Hanson up to the stand was suicide for him, as Lieutenant Emma Langley stood up as Lieutenant Baker's defence.
"I call Lieutenant Baker to the Stand." She stated. Baker then stood up and made his way over to the stand where he sat down and made the same oath as Dr Barrett did before him.
"Lieutenant, you have plead guilty to attempting to murder a UNSC officer, assisting to murder another UNSC officer and the torture and murder of innocent civillians. Are you able to give a reason as to your actions before we move onto the fifth charge as the third exonerates you of the first charge?" She asked Baker.
"Ma'am, I was following the orders of my superior officer at the time. When SG-9 arrived on the planet Captain Hanson suggested that we play along with them believing that we were their gods. When he ordered that those who did not believe were to be left out in the sun for seven days, I knew I had to follow his orders or be put outside with them. When Hanson ordered that the natives were to work in shifts day and night, I protested and tried to defend them. Hanson was adamant on his course of action and was still sentencing people to be left out in the sun. As such I followed orders to preserve my life so I could try to fight their cause the next time and try to convince Hanson that working them to death was not the way forward." Baker said. "My reason for assisting in Frakes and attempting to murder Connor were based on the fact that I was afraid to be hunted down and killed alongside them." Baker continued.
"Now moving onto the fifth charge. Do you deny posing as a god to the people of Avnil?"
"Yes, Only Hanson believes himself a god to the people of Avnil. I was merely the enforcer of what Hanson ordered."
"Thank you Lieutenant." She said finishing her line of questions.
The prosecution, captain Elliot Chambers, then stood up. "The prosecution will call Lieutenant Laurence Connor to the stand." He proclaimed. Lieutenant Connor left the side room where he had been kept, as to not have to see the man who murdered his friend any more than needed, and took the stand. He swore the oath and sat down.
"Lieutenant Connor, I want you to describe what you remember about your time on Avnil." Captain Chambers told him.
"Well sir, as stated in the report, SG-9 arrived on the planet and met the locals. They initially thought we were gods. Hanson said that it would be best that we let them believe that. Frakes, our team's anthropologist agreed with his assessment. On our fourth or fifth week there, one of the children wondered out of the caves and went missing. Hanson went after the child. He was away for two full days before returning with the child, in his arms, barely alive. After that things changed. Hanson had begun to believe that he was their god. The small number of people we spoke to and began to question him were tied to stakes and left out in the sun. They were out there for seven days. The ones that did not die outside just died later on in the caves. The natives who were tied up had open blisters all over their bodies. The medical equipment to hand would not do anything to help them other than to ease their suffering. After that Frakes and I ran for it and tried to make it back to Stargate Command to tell them what had happened. During our run to the Stargate, Frakes was hit by a dart from the locals. He ordered me to leave him and get to Earth. Just before I was going to enter the Stargate, there was a gunshot. It sounded like a 9mm subsonic shot. I hid in the trees until I was rescued by Spartan Red Team. I headed to where Frakes fell down only to find a pile of As and his identification disks. The leader of the Spartans then ordered me back to the SGC to brief General Hammond." Connor recounted. There was a stunned silence from all who listened to his account of what occurred. Some had tears streaming down their faces from the gruesome deaths of the natives and Lieutenant Frakes.
"Lieutenant, are you saying it was the sun that was the cause of the change in Captain Hanson?" Chambers asked him.
"No sir, there must have been other factors that contributed to the change. The long exposure to the sun was just the final straw." Connor answered coldly.
"What was the role of Lieutenant Baker in this?" Captain Chambers then asked.
"Baker was the one who ensured that the work was done and nobody freed the ones tied to the stakes while the temple was being built." Connor relayed to him.
"Thank you Lieutenant Connor. You may leave." Chambers told him. As Connor was getting up and leaving, Chambers turned his attention to the mission reports that were given. "Each of these mission reports, logged as exhibits 3A to 3I, say the same thing. That is to say that the accused was using the natives as a slave army to build a temple and attack UNSC personnel. All nine reports include that people were tied to stakes and left to burn, that Baker was out there with his rifle beating people who didn't work, that Hanson had convinced them that he was their god. I now turn to exhibit 4A. This is a recording from one of the Spartan's helmets that will show what happened on the 21st and 22nd of August 1997. If you would please turn your attention to the screens." Chambers said. Everyone turned to the screens above the judge. Harley turned to the screen on his desk.
What they saw was shocking. They saw Frakes' ashes, Hanson's camp as the natives worked to death. They also saw the natives attacking the Spartans during the night and during their escape with the prisoners.
"Exhibit 1A and 1B are the transcripts of the interrogations of Captain Hanson and Lieutenant Baker. 1A is effectively a confession to charges 1, 2, 4 and 5. Exhibit 1B is also a confession but to charges 2, 3 and 4. Exhibit 2 is the results of the gunshot residue tests done on Hanson his cloak and pistol as well as an examination of the bullet that was used to kill Lieutenant Frakes and Captain Hanson's pistol. They show a match between the bullet and pistol as well as positive for Captain Hanson's fingers, his cloak and the barrel of his pistol." Chambers said presenting the evidence to the judge and jury. "The prosecution rests it's case." Chambers said with near surety that the two would at least get charged with at least one of the five charges.
A recess was called for the judge and jury to go and review what they had heard and reach a verdict. It took 20 minutes for a verdict and punishment to be reached for each of the officers. The group walked back into the courtroom and sat down.
"The defendants will stand." Harley ordered. "Captain Jonas Hanson is found guilty on all counts excluding count three and is sentenced to death by hanging. Lieutenant Matthew Baker is found guilty on counts 2, 3 and 4 and is sentenced to forty years imprisonment in a military prison and after his time is served, dishonourable discharge." Harley said to everyone before banging his gavel off of the block three times. "This court is adjourned." Everyone left the court house and returned to their duties. Alpha nine and Spartan Red team returned to active operations and Lieutenant Connor was given the time till he was off to UNSC Lympstone off on personal leave.

It had been three days since SG teams 1 through 7 had returned from training at UNSC Lympstone. SG teams 8 through 14 were sent by albatross to UNSC Lympstone for their two weeks in hell. SG units 10 through 14 had been formed by the UNSC as to increase the number of teams that the SGC were able to field and deploy should a team go Missing in Action. SG 10 was made up of members from the now defunct Joint Task Force 2. SG 11 was made up from soldiers of the French Commando Marines. SG 12 was made up from personnel of the 47 Commando (Raiding Group) of what was the Royal Marines. SG 13 was made up of members of SAS and SEAL soldiers. Their training would take slightly longer as they were to by trained on the usage of ONI's covert operations equipment. SG 14 was to be made up of soldiers of Gebirgsjäger bataillon 233 from Germany.
Hammond had told SG-1 that they would have a few days off due to a major mission that would be conducted in a few days' time, the team split up and started projects that they wanted to complete. Daniel had decided to try and speak to the Spartans and ODSTs while they were on base and try to learn about them. Teal'c had decided to meditate and learn more Earth culture. Jack went home to Colorado Springs to relax. Sam on the other hand had spent the last two days couped up in her lab trying to figure out a way to enhance the deuterium nuclear fusion reactors that powered UNSC facilities with Naquadah, after finding out about Hanson's court martial and sentence.
She only left the lab to eat and sleep, which she got little of either because she was so focused. At 0600 she was still in her lab holding liquid Naquadah and having a set of plans on her desk still trying to figure out the science. She had tried multiple experiments which all ended the same way. Utter failure. The latest of those tests almost detonated which would have destroyed the lab and possibly the building. Luckily for her, her lab was in a separate building away from anything that might be highly explosive.
At that moment Colonel O'Neill walked into the lab through the door behind her. She was so engrossed in her work that she did not notice him. "Hi Sam, what are you workin' on?" he asked in a somewhat curious manner. In doing so he scaring her out of her skin causing her to almost drop the liquid Naquadah. She spun round on her chair and glared at him fiercely. "Oops, sorry." Jack apologised.
"I am just trying to work out a way to incorporate Naquadah into the reactors that we are now using." Sam explained simply knowing that if she went into detail, she would confuse him and he would lose the little interest he had. A few moments later Teal'c walked into the room. "Captain Carter, Colonel O'Neill." He said giving each of them a small bow. "Hey T, what were we meant to be doing again?" Jack asked confused. "General Hammond requested that we retrieve Captain Carter and Lieutenant Jackson from their Labs and bring them to the main briefing room." Teal'c explained politely. "Oh yeah, come on Sam, we are back on mission today remember. Apparently, it's a big one." Jack said with boyish excitement that was lost on the two.
(0700 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Main Briefing room/ Location UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, former USA)
When the three of them arrived at the briefing they were met by Daniel, SG teams 3 and 5 as well as an African American man in a marine BDU (Halo 2 design), another man in an ODST BDU and ten 7" Spartans. General Hammond walked into the room moments later. The room immediately came to attention and saluted.
"Be seated Ladies and Gentlemen." Hammond said and everyone except the Spartans who remained standing. Commander Carter moved off to one side of the table slightly while the chief took the direct centre opposite Hammond.
A portable holo-emitter, that the Master Chief brought with him thanks to Dr Halsey, came to life displaying Admiral Keyes at the other end of the table next to the ODST Commander, while sitting in a chair. While in the middle of the table Guardian appeared to be walking on the table.
Commander Carter did remove his helmet and place it on the table for the meeting while the Chief's remained on his head.
"Now that everyone is here, let us begin." Hammond said. "I have been told that one of you Spartans will be leading the mission so I hand the briefing over to you." He continued.
The Master Chief took a half step forward. "Sir, first I feel it is best if you know who you are working with. This is Sgt Major Johnson of the Marine Corps, Gunnery Sgt Buck of the ODSTs, my fellow Spartan is Commander A-259 and I am Commander Serra 117. The reconnaissance probe that was sent out to the planet Casmir or as the SGC calls it P3X 7758, recorded a Goa'uld outpost and has counted roughly 1000 Jaffa with a minor Goa'uld leader. Our limited data suggests that this Goa'uld was a lesser Goa'uld und Ra and fled to Casmir with a Cheops class warship and roughly 1000 Jaffa. This operation will be in two phases. The Marines will be split into two groups with two ODST squads, two Spartans and an SG team accompanying them. They will attack the base's outer perimeter from two flanks. While this happens, SG-1, a mixed Blue and Noble team will board the ship, collect data from on board and if the other half of the plan works with little to no casualties, the Marines, ODSTs and SG teams will board the ship for an asset procurement operation." The Chief said with no emotion. "The force leaders will be as assigned. Flank Force One will be led by Colonel Makepeace and Sgt Johnson along with. Flank Force Two will be led by Major Castleman and Gunnery Sgt Buck. Boarding Force will be led by Myself and Colonel O'Neill." The Chief finished.
"Co-ordination between the groups will be the key to this operation. The boarding force must get onto the ship. If one of the Flank forces is struggling the boarding force can detach two units of two Spartans at max. Insertion will be at 1000 hours and Flank Forces will begin attack at no later than 1100 hours. This operation should take no longer than four hours if we stick to the basic parameters and do not attempt to capture the ship. Admiral, do you have anything to add?" Hammond finished.
"Nothing from me General other than good luck and bring my Spartans back safely. Halsey will kill me if one of them is severely injured or worse killed." Keyes joked. Most of the table laughed at that except the Spartans who knew that what he was saying was likely true.
"Are there any questions from anyone here?" Hammond asked.
"Yes Sir, why is Commander 117 in charge of the operation and not one of our officers who is higher ranked such as Colonel O'Neill or Colonel Makepeace?" one of the SG team members asked.
"Because Sgt Russell, he has seen more action and won more medals than any many in the history of the UNSC in both realities. He as every single decoration a soldier can get not including the POW medal. As such, he is one of the most experience soldiers we have on our side." Admiral Keyes said with conviction while everyone's eyes trailed over to the Master Chief. As if somehow knowing that the question about him being in command would arise, he walked over to a sizable box on one of the side tables picked it up and deposited it on the table so everyone could see the content. Within was an array of medals so vast that it put the General and Admiral to shame never mind anyone else.
This left a gaping audience of those who did not know his track record.
"Well then ladies and gentlemen, have a full breakfast and if need be, catch some sleep. Briefing dismissed." Hammond said ending the meeting still somewhat humbled by the number of awards that were given even when there were multiple of some awards.
The SG teams left the room whispering between each other trying to figure out how he could collect such an array of medals. Sgt Johnson and Gunnery Sgt Buck walked behind them sniggering to each other at the bewilderment of them. Carter and the Chief left the briefing room to return to the Spartans who would be on the mission.
(0950 hours/ September 5th 1997/ SGC Gate room/ Location UNSC Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Former USA)
SG-1 had met up with the other SG teams in the Corridor to the Gate room. They also met up with some of the Marines who they found out created the first Marine battalion and began to chat with them. SG-1 went straight to the Gate room to find twenty-four ODSTs, another person with an ODST helmet but different armour and ten Spartans. The group went to speak to the Spartans.
"So, Commander as we will be operating with you on this mission. Can we know who we are working with?" Jack asked curiously to Commander Carter.
"Well Colonel, you know me Commander Carter also Noble One, this is Noble Two Lieutenant Commander Kat B-320, The one in green is our sniper, Noble Three Jun A-266, the one with the Kukri is Noble Four Emile A-239, the Big-man is Noble Five Jorge S-052 and the one who still has his helmet on is Noble Six B-312." Carter finished.
"Nice to meet you all, I am Colonel Jack O'Neill, this is Captain Samantha Carter, the one with the staff is LTJG Teal'c and the one with the glasses is LTJG Daniel Jackson."
"If you don't mind me asking who are the other four and what's with the letters and numbers?" Daniel asked.
"Well, the one in green is Blue One the Master Chief Commander S-117, the one with the blue armour is Blue Two Senior Chief Petty Officer S-104, The white armoured one is Blue Three Petty Officer 1st Class S-087 and the one with the sniper rifle is Blue Four Petty Officer 1st Class S-058. The letters for these guys donate which Spartan company they come from so Carter, Jun and Emile were part of Alpha Company and Kat and Six were Beta Company. The letters for Blue Team and myself donate that we are Spartan twos. The numbers identify which Spartan you are talking to." Jorge explained to the group.
"So, if you are Spartan twos are the other five Spartan threes then?" Sam asked. This gained a nod of the head from the Spartans.
Just as they were about to continue the Chief walked onto the ramp and addressed the assembled group.
"For insertion, Blue Team and Noble team will go first to secure the gate and eliminate any possible resistance. One minute later the ODSTs, Marines and SG teams will come through. Marine Second squad will take up positions around the gate to secure our exit. We will then split down into the already assigned groups and move into position. Clear?" The Chief asked.
The marines and ODSTs shouted "Yes Sir!" in reply while the Spartans gave affirmative nods. With that the Chief turned to Sgt Walter, who was still on gate controls. "Proceed with insertion Sgt."
General Hammond walked up behind Walter and said through the mike "Good Luck ladies and Gentlemen." And with that the gate powered up, opened the wormhole and the Spartans ran through the gate.
(1001 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Stargate/ Location P3X 7758 [Casmir])
The Jaffa on the other side of the gate were startled to begin with when the gate powered up and then terrified as ten 7" walking tanks ran through the gate and began to tear apart the position. In less than a minute the entire gate garrison was dead and fifteen seconds later UNSC Marines, ODSTs and SG teams crowded into the encampment. The SG team were astonished by the speed it took ten men and women to eliminate close to sixty Jaffa.
Sgt Johnson and Gunnery Sgt Buck quickly snapped them out of their trance and had nearly organised the marines and ODSTs into their two flank forces. There were twenty-five marines and twelve ODSTs per flank team. Colonel Makepeace quickly organised SG 3 into the force with Sgt Johnson, Noble Three and Noble Four while Major Castleman got SG 5 organised with Gunnery Sgt Buck's force with Noble Five and Blue Four.
SG-1 was pulled out of their trance by Carter walking up to them and getting them together with Blue Two, Noble Two and Noble Six.
"Once you are in position Radio me using the Callsign Mission Leader. Do not start your attacks until I give you the go ahead. Remember, stealth is key to this operation. So, don't alert the enemy to your presence until I give you the word to attack." The Chief said. "Colonel, Major move out and good luck. See you on the other side soldiers." The Chief finished. With that the groups began to move out stealthily. John and Kelly followed the Spartan/SG-1 team a point and then climbed a hill to get to a good vantage point for directing the operation.
With Flank Force One, Makepeace and Johnson were moving to the opposite end of the canyon using flanking animal paths while being careful not to be spotted. "So, Sgt, what's the deal with the big green guy?" Makepeace asked Johnson.
"Well, during the war he was on the frontline for nearly every single battle. During that time, he watched as or heard about seven of his siblings being killed by the covenant not to mention the trillions of civilians and soldiers who died whether that be in space or on the ground." Johnson replied earning the Chief a lot of respect from SG-3. The same conversation was going on between Major Castleman and Jorge. Unknown to the SG teams, Marines and ODSTs who were listening to the conversations, the Chief heard them. He decided that it was best to let them have a few moments before they became engaged by the Jaffa and Goa'uld.
(1100 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Boarding Force/ Location P3X 7758 [Casmir])
The Spartans and SG-1 had been trekking for about fifty-five minutes before reaching the site they would launch their raid from. Three minutes later, the Chief radioed the other teams.
"Flank Forces One and Two, do you read me? Over." The Chief asked into the built in microphone.
"This is Colonel Makepeace, Flank Force One is in position and read to strike." The heard the Colonel answer down the radio.
"This is Major Castleman; we are in position and ready for immediate assault." Came the second reply.
"This is mission Led to Flank Forces One and Two. Begin your attacks." The Chief ordered down the radio. Two seconds later there was the sound of small arms fire coming from both their left and right.
(1100 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Jaffa Northern guard camp/ Location P3X 7758 [Casmir])
The Jaffa in the Northern guard camp had been sitting around in their camp for close to a year now. Since Ra had been killed in orbit of Abydos, this group of Jaffa under the command of their God Adad had retreated to this out of the way planet. The Jaffa believed that they were doing nothing worth their time and wanted to go back out into the galaxy and fight Ra's enemies.
Suddenly there was a cacophony of bangs and many of the Jaffa began to fall. They had two turrets which were now unmanned as the people attacking them had killed the gunners first.
On the opposite end of the gunfire, Colonel Makepeace and Sgt Johnson had ordered the troops to push forward into the enemy encampment. By this time of the 200 or so Jaffa that had originally been stationed there, on about ten had survived and were retreating back to their ship.
(1110 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Boarding Force/ Location P3X 7758 [Casmir])
The Boarding force had just seen roughly 260 Jaffa exit the Northern exit to the ship and were fairly sure that considering the ten that had returned five minutes earlier, they were the reinforcements going to the Northern Camp. Doing the Maths incredibly fast, the Chief had estimated roughly forty Jaffa were left aboard the ship.
"There should only be forty enemy contact aboard now, not including the Goa'uld that is in charge. Now is our time to strike." Chief radioed down to the group from his overwatch location. "Blue Two, Colonel O'Neill and Lieutenant Teal'c will be with me. Noble Two, Noble Six, Captain Carter and Lieutenant Jackson will move off to gather the necessary data. The teams will be Serra Bravo made up of Noble Two, Noble six Captain Carter and Lieutenant Jackson. My team is Serra Alpha." Commander Carter said quickly assigning orders.
By the time the group was moving down the hill, Fred and Six had drawn their knives and had made their way down to the sentry posts. Within seconds of their arrival at the sentry post, both the Jaffa guards were dead and the team's route was open. There was a slight gurgling sound as they died but no other Jaffa were alerted to the Spartan's and SG-1'S presence. Immediately after neutralising the guards, Fred and Six waited for Carter and Kat respectively.
"Prepare to breach." Carter ordered. Everyone went and stacked up behind Carter before he entered into the lower hanger bay.
As they entered Noble Six and Blue Two covered the left and right flanks respectively as Noble two covered their entry point once SG-1 was through the door.
"Remember to clear the corridors before you run down them. Use any and all cover available to you. Move out." Carter instructed before the two teams split off. Serra Alpha was the first to make contact with an enemy patrol. It was a four Jaffa strong patrol. This meant that there had to be roughly seven other patrols wandering around the ship with two on the bridge, two guarding the bridge and two guarding the other entrance.
"Take them out." He ordered quickly over the COMM. Before they knew what was happening, the four Jaffa were dead on the floor. "Quickly. hide the bodies so they don't get any suspicions that we have infiltrated the ship." Carter ordered. Teal'c and Jack carried a body between them while Carter and 104 moved a body each and quickly moved the other body into the store room they had found.
"Serra Alpha to Serra Bravo, be warned that there are Jaffa Patrols going through the ship. I estimate roughly seven other patrols not including the one we have just encountered. Over." Carter informed them over the COMM
"Copy Commander, we will keep our eyes open for any more patrols and radio you if we find and eliminate any. Over." Came Kat's voice over the COMM.
"Roger that, we will inform you if we encounter any more patrols. Over, out." Carter said finishing the conversation.
The first objective they reached was an armoury. "Plant C-12 charges into the room and set them on a detonator." Carter ordered but not before Teal'c picked up something in the shape of an 'S'.
"What you got there Teal'c?" Jack asked.
"It is called a Zat'nik'tel Colonel. When used the first shot will stun a person, the second will kill them and the third with vaporise them." Teal'c explained. Not a minute after, the rest of Serra Alpha had picked up a 'Zat'nik'tel and left the room after planting the C-12. Teal'c stopped and shot the door release on the armoury to ensure that nobody could enter the room.
"Serra Bravo to Serra Alpha, we have found and eliminated a patrol by the entrance to the engineering and machine space of the ship. Over." Kat said over the radio.
"Copy that Serra Bravo, make your way to the nearest armoury and pick up an S-shaped device. They are weapons that will allow you to vaporise the bodies of that and any other enemy patrol you find. Over." Carter informed the other group.
"Copy Sir, I will make my way there to pick up some for the team. Over, out." Noble Six responded.
They moved on from armoury to armoury, climbing through the ship, planting C-12 and then shooting the door release. As they did this they ran into two more Jaffa patrols and used the 'Zats', as the Colonel had come to naming them, to vaporise the bodies to ensure their stealth was not lost.
As they got closer to the bridge, they were eventually spotted. The remaining four patrols had been ordered to converge to 'protect their god'. Because of the amount of plasma flying down the hallway, the two members of SG-1 were forced to remain behind cover. Carter learned the hard way that a few blasts from a Staff Weapon would deplete a Spartan's shields quite quickly. The volume of fire taught him this as his shield fell very quickly from the concentrated barrage of Staff weapon fire on his location. Luckily the enemy was so inaccurate that only enough shots hit to deplete his shields but not do any damage to the armour or the Spartan inside. This left them pinned down in a narrow hallway.
(1230 Hours/ September 5th 1997/ Commander 117/ Location Hill overlooking the battle P2X 7758 [Casmir])
The Master Chief was never used to sitting around off to the side of a battle. Normally he was right in the middle of it but, this time he had to stay off to the side as to be able to manage the considerable number of soldiers that he was having to command. Cortana and Kelly were up on the ridge with him looking at a holo-projection of the battle. He and Kelly were watching the projection and also the actual battle to ensure that as many of the soldiers under his command came out of this battle alive.
"John, the massive waves of enemy infantry are close to engaging the two distraction forces." Cortana informed him.
"Colonel Makepeace, Major Castleman, you have large contingents of enemy reinforcements charging down through the valley towards you. Get dug in and prepare to ambush them. Remember, stay out of the lines of fire of the warship." John radioed to the Flank Force commanders.
"Copy Mission Leader, what is the strength of the enemy reinforcements?" Colonel Makepeace asked.
"The strength of the enemy reinforcements is roughly 250 enemy troops for each of the flanks." John informed the two.
"Chief, new intel. I have found out that each of the reinforcement groups is led by a 'Serpent Guard'." Cortana informed him urgently.
"Understood Mission Leader, digging in now." Major Castleman reported.
"Foxtrot One and Two, Cortana has found out that you each have a serpent guard headed your way." Chief relayed to Makepeace and Castleman.
"Copy that Mission Leader. We will pay special attention to him when he rears his ugly head." Castleman informed him.
"Solid copy Foxtrot Two. Serra team, what is your status?" Chief asked the Strike Team.
"Alpha 259 to Mission Leader, Serra Alpha is en route to the bridge and Serra Bravo is extracting the information from the ship's systems and is ready to power down the ship if you wish to begin an assault." Carter informed him quickly.
"Copy Alpha 259. Bravo 320, how is the download process going?" He asked Kat.
"Sir, Captain Carter and Lieutenant Jackson are nearly finished with the download." Kat answered.
"Understood. Over, Out." Chief responded.
Back with the Flank groups, the Chief had warned them about the 250 or so Jaffa with a Serpent guard leading them headed their ways after they had cleared out the encampments. The groups had just enough time to entrench themselves before the waves of Jaffa warriors charged into the camp and was enveloped in a crossfire. Noble Four and Five had charged into the middle of the defensive lines and began to blast away at the Jaffa. Noble Three and Blue Four were at the top of the hills firing down into the valley attempting to take out as many as possible to relieve the pressure on the main force.
(1300 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Flank Force Two/ Location P3X 7758 [Casmir])
Major Castleman and Gunnery Sgt Buck had managed to force the remaining forty or so Jaffa of the 253 strong counterattack back to their ship with only five wounded personnel. Once the fighting had died down mostly with their assigned Spartan fire support team, Blue Four and Noble Five, they began to assess the possibility of assaulting the ship.
"Foxtrot Two to Foxtrot One, what is your status and location? Over." Castleman asked through the radio.
"Foxtrot One to Foxtrot Two, we have pushed back the enemy reinforcements and are ready to assault the enemy warship. Over." Colonel Makepeace relayed.
"Affirmative, we are in the same position on the south side of the Warship." Castleman reported to Colonel Makepeace.
"Foxtrot One to Mission Leader, all forces ready for imminent assault on the warship. Shall we proceed? Over." Makepeace asked the Chief.
"This is Mission Leader to Foxtrot One and Foxtrot Two, advance and engage the remaining enemy forces and secure lower levels of the enemy warship. Captain Carter and Lieutenant Jackson will be en route to link up with you. Lieutenant Commander B320 and Lieutenant B312 are to hod the reactor so the enemy cannot use the anti-ship and point defence weapons to force our troops back and cause heavy casualties. Serra Alpha, Myself and S-087 will be linking up with you soon so we can press our assault on the bridge. Blue Four and Nobles Three, Four and Five are to continue to assist the Flanking forces. All units move out." The Chief ordered.
Within moments, the two flanking forces converged on the main entry point for the warship and began to annihilate the Jaffa forces within While the Chief and Kelly shot down the side of the hill and down to the entry point that the strike team had used. They then quickly moved up the decks of the ship eliminating a patrol that Serra Alpha had not run into and linked up with Serra Alpha in the middle of a fire fight.
During that time, Kat and Noble Six held their positions at the ship's reactor as so they enemy couldn't switch the power back on to use the ship's weaponry on the ground forces. Once they were sure that the flank forces had breached the ship and had arrived to support them, they made their way to the bridge.
"The Bridge is just up ahead Chief." Kelly said knowing John wouldn't want his name splashed out over the radio.
"10,4 Blue Two." The Chief said.
Once they arrived at the bridge, the found that the doors were locked down and had to be pried open with brute force. For this job Jorge was told to open the door. As soon as the door was slightly open, six managed to get a good look inside the room.
"Chief, there are six guards in their as well as the boss. These guys look more deadly than the other Jaffa. Their armour matches that of Serpent guards." Noble Six informed the team.
"We will have to open the door slightly and use overwhelming fire to take down at least a few of them before we storm the room and capture their boss." The Chief said.
With that John, Fred, Kelly, Carter, Kat, Six, Jack and Teal'c lined up their weapons so they could eliminate as many as possible. The door opened and they immediately fired a volley into the room killing four of the guards.
"Carter, Kat, Colonel, LTJG Teal'c take out the guards. 087, 104, Six, with me and capture the commander." Within seconds of the door fully opening Kelly had bounded across the room to the Goa'uld while Carter, Kat, Jack and Teal'c were taking down the remaining Serpent guards. Less than a second after Kelly reached the Goa'uld, John, and Six had joined her in wrestling the guy to the ground. Fred was moments behind and quelled any resistance she may have had left.
With that Emile, Jorge and Six were ordered to escort the Goa'uld back to Earth with the SG teams. Fred accompanied Six down to Emile and Jorge before they left for Earth. Fred then returned to the bridge.
(1500 hours/ September 5th 1997/ Ship's Bridge/ Location Cheops Class Warship, P3X 7758 [Casmir])
Captain Dare arrived on the bridge. "Commander 117 what's the situation?" She asked while removing her helmet.
"The ship is fully under UNSC command and the enemy Commander has been captured Ma'am." The Chief said whilst saluting. She saluted in return.
"Ma'am, as you are the senior ONI officer here. May I suggest yourself and the ODSTs remain behind to hold the ship till we can either send people for a scrapping operation or a retrieval operation as we could use the resources to build more ships." The Chief said.
"Good idea Master Chief. If you return to Earth and request instructions from Admiral Keyes, we can get a team of technicians and a small crew to fly her back to earth for both a full examination and eventually scrapping." Dare ordered the Chief.
"Yes Ma'am." The Chief said with a salute before making his way retrieving the remaining Spartans and Marines and taking them back to the Stargate.
(1700 hours/ September 6th 1997/ UNSC Cruiser Lyonesse/ Location Hanger Bay, UNSC Lyonesse, High Earth Orbit)
Captain Samantha Carter had just arrived aboard the Lyonesse. Captain Clara McFarlane and Commander 117 met her as she disembarked from the pelican that brought her there.
"Captain Carter, I am Captain McFarlane of the Lyonesse and, as you are aware, this is Commander 117 who is in command of the Spartans." She announced.
"Captain McFarlane, permission to come aboard?" She asked in response.
"Permission granted Captain Carter. I believe you have a class to prepare to teach tomorrow. Ensign Liam Purcell will guide you to your quarters for your stay aboard the Lyonesse." McFarlane replied before nodding and heading off to the bridge as officer of the watch.
"Good Afternoon ensign, how are you?" Sam asked greeting him.
"Fine thank you ma'am. I will show you to your quarters. You will be quartered near the Spartans for the duration of your stay. I believe you will also be eating in the Spartan officer's mess." The ensign responded.
"Thank you. May I ask how long you have been with the Navy?" She asked.
"Little over four years now ma'am. It has been hard for those of us here knowing that we left our families behind and Earth to fend for herself." He answered with a small amount of despair.
"Ensign, think of it like this. Though you have left so much behind, you have the chance to stop any of what happened to the UNSC and UEG from happening again here." She responded. This made him smile at the thought of being able to defend Earth even if it was not the same version of Earth he remembered.
"Thank you ma'am. Here you are. This is your key card for entering some of the doors on the ship. There will still be restricted section but most of the ship is still open to you. If you get lost, just ask a crewman or find a map on the wall. They will send you in the right direction." He told her as she entered and began to unpack her gear.
"Thank you ensign, I will keep that in mind."
(1300 hours/ September 8th 1997/ UNSC Cruiser Lyonesse/ Location Spartan Classroom, UNSC Lyonesse, High Earth Orbit)
Captain Carter had been surprised by conduct and demeanor of the Spartans. She had been up on the Lyonesse for two days now and had all but Spartan teams Red and Omega in a class room learning the physics of the Stargate. They had grasped the physics so quickly that it had surprised her immeasurably. This meant that she had much more time to spend with the Spartans in a less formal setting than the classroom. The Spartan commander and Spartan 087 had been locked up in his office most of the time they were not in the classroom. She had found out that the Spartan II had a familial bond and as such were extremely capable with working in teams composed of whoever was available. The Spartan IIIs on the other hand were also a familial bond but near exclusively to their teams as they were from different companies and she found out that most of the members of Alpha and Beta companies were destroyed in operations Prometheus and Torpedo respectively.
Each meal she sat in the small officer's mess that was designated for the Spartans. She had been treated to very good food on the ship as she remembered the Chocolate cream pie she had on the first day for desert. She tried to sit with as many of the Spartan officers as she could. She remembered talking to Commander Carter about sitting with the Spartan IIs.
- Flashback -
"Commander, do you mind if I sit with you and your officers?" She asked politely.
"Sure Captain, you're more than welcome to sit with us." He answered.
"Thank you, I was hoping to learn a bit about the ship's power source as well as the armour's as I am an Astrophysicist and Engineer. But I would also like to get to know you Spartans as we will likely be working alongside each other at some point." She explained.
"We Captain, if you want to learn about the ship then the chief engineer, Lyanna Griffiths, is the person to ask. The armour is classified but you could ask Dr Halsey as she might be looking for a protégé. As you Know I am Carter, the one with the metal arm is Kat, the one in green is Jun, the one with the helmet with a skull carved into it is Emile and the other one is Six. Jorge is over with the Chief." Carter explained pointing over to the dark corner of the room where the outlines of two massive people were sat talking and eating.
"I would like to speak with Commander 117 at some point about things other than work related things." She said expressing her desire to talk to him.
"Well that would be a bit of a problem. The Chief and most of the Spartan IIs are reclused to the Spartans when not on combat operations, in meetings or in a classroom setting. Jorge is the one of the few that will happily talk to non-Spartans.
"Okay. Thank you for the information. Perhaps I should speak to Jorge about learning a bit more about the Spartan IIs." She said, the last bit to herself.
- End of Flashback -
She was just waiting for the Spartans to finish the test, that she had done herself about the physics concerning the Stargate program, that she had given them to see how much they had retained from two days of classes.
Within about a minute of the first Spartan finishing, the rest of them all finished the assigned test. After she gathered the tests in she spent two hours marking them. At the end she was astonished yet again. "How the hell did they remember everything to answer all of the questions perfectly?" She asked herself. Remembering something Jorge told her about their augmentations making it so they could remember everything, she chalked it up to that and sent the results off to Rear Admiral Keyes and Commander 117.
She then returned to the hanger bay where she had arrived two days prior and boarded the pelican designated to return her to the SGC. She would then have to give the same lessons to Spartan Red team while they were there at the same time she had a spare moment. She had also sent the lessons to Commander 117 for when Omega team returned from their extended mission.
Note a few episode from Season one will be missed out for various reasons. These are Cold Lazarus, Brief Candle, Fire and Water, Solitudes and Politics.
Cold Lazarus will be missed out because firstly, Jack is not back at the SGC to go on that mission to touch the crystalline entity which is the main focus of the episode.
Brief Candle will be missed out because the only difference is that the SGC and UNSC would be able to work out how to reverse the nanites faster because of Dr Halsey.
Fire and Water would basically be the same episode and I would not want to bore you with a repeat of the same story.
Solitudes will be fixed by Omega team having recovered the other Stargate from Antarctica by that point.
Politics will be missed out a it is a discussion on whether or not to keep the Stargate running and as it is now a part of the UNSC HIGHCOM and instrumental to the offensive and defensive capabilities of Earth, will not be shut down.
If you disagree please post where I may be wrong and I will review them and see how the chapter plays out, with your input, in my head before deciding on it.
