'We take you live to general hospital, where last night at approximately 11 pm an attempt against the life of former New York ADA Rafael Barba took place. Barba had already fallen victim to a previous attack where he was ambushed and shot, putting him in the hospital. Daniel has more on the incident.'

The squad stood around the television, watching the news report. The phones rang unanswered as they focused on the screens.

'As we know Rafael Barba was the former DA for the Manhattan division. Recently seen taking high-profile cases from New York to California. A few days ago as he was seen driving past a light, a dark SUV crashed into him. He was ambushed and shot 12 times. He was then rushed here to general hospital, where he miraculously survived his injuries. Please be advised that what we are about to show you is disturbing.'

The footage of the ambush began to play. Showing new footage of Olivia and Barba arguing outside the bar. Followed by the crash and shots.

Olivia pulled her phone out dialing Fin's number. "Find out how they got that footage."

'We have identified the woman in the footage to be Captain Benson from the NYPD. We are unsure of what the argument was about, but it seemed pretty bad.'

Barba snorted. "It wasn't that bad. All I heard was nagging." He chuckled at the slap Olivia gave his shoulder. "Ow!"

'It seemed Barba was on his way to recovery when the unfortunate happened last night. At approximately 11 pm last night a gunman fired upon Barba and Captain Benson in his hospital room. Unfortunately, Barba succumbed to his injuries moments after being shot. There is no word on Captain Benson's condition at the moment. All we know is that she too was injured in the shootout. Now detectives have two suspects in custody at the moment, but have not yet revealed the identity of said suspects.'

Walking into the apartment, Marcos jumped at the loud crash. "Ma?!" Running into the living room, he came to a skidding halt. A cup of tea was spilled on the floor. The cup and plate shattered from the impact. "Mami?" Lowering the bags in his hand, he approached her with caution. The moment she was within reach he caught her from falling to her knees. "Mami que tienes?!"

"Rafa."

Marco had to strain his hearing just to hear her. "Rafael? What about him?" Looking towards the tv he paled. "Shot? Wh-what are they talking about? Dead?"

"Mi niño." Lucia raised a trembling hand to her lips, shaking her head. "No. No! I don't believe it!"

"Mami." Marcos tilted his head with a slight nod. "That's what they-"

"No!" She slammed her fist into his chest. "He is not dead! My son can not be dead! Not Rafael!"

'We have a statement from the captain Craigen.'

'It is with a heavy heart that I say this. Rafael Barba was declared dead at 11:34 pm last night. Doctor Shepherd and his staff did everything they could, but unfortunately, that was not enough. Rafael risked his life saving the life of Captain Benson from the shooter moment before the shooting occurred. Captain Benson is in critical conditions at the moment and will be moved to a secure location where she will hopefully recover in time.'

Marcos held his mother as she wailed against him. He was hearing the words, but he couldn't believe them. "He's gone. He-he's gone."

"Don't!" Lucia grabbed a fist full of his shirt. "Don't say that! He...he's not gone!"

"He's gone." Marco choked on his words. "He's gone."

Lucia shook her head stumbling backward. "He's not. Marcos tell me he's not. That it's not true." But all she got was a weak nod. That was the last draw for her. Falling to her knees she covered her face, rocking herself back and forth. Marcos fell next to her, pulling her into his arms. "Rafael!"

'Our deepest condolences to the Barba family in these darkest of times. We will not stop until we have everyone responsible behind bars.'

Barba felt the tightness in his chest at the mention of his family. "This is going to kill my mother."

Olivia took his hand squeezing it gently. "Do you want her to know?"

The selfish boy in him wanted his mother there. But he would never risk putting her in danger. "No." It was bad enough he was dragging Olivia into this. "If I end up dead I rather not have her go through this twice."

"We are going to be fine." Olivia glared at him, daring him to contradict her.

"You sound pretty sure." Barba glanced at their joined hands. His thumb lazily drew circles over hers. "Why?"

"Because you have me." Olivia follows his gaze to their hands.

"No, I meant why are you doing this?" Barba asked. "You're leaving everything behind. Your life. Your job. Noah."

"I-" She thought her next words carefully. "I don't want to lose you."

Looking over at him, she met his green eyes. 'Have they always been so bright?' At that moment. Looking into his eyes, she realized just how blind she'd been. So much time was lost over ridiculous things. All because she couldn't see past her idolized view of Elliot.

'How could I have been such an idiot.'
