Chapter 6: Wedding Day (Pt 1)
The big day was here, everyone was running around the mayors house, A.K.A the venue, making sure everything was delivered and set up on time. Klaus was with his brothers and the other groomsmen in the grooms dressing room, Kol was trying to teach Finn some sort of new game he'd bought while everyone else was either chatting or checking over their suits. He'd managed to avoid his family for the rest of the week, which he was happy to do after the disastrous dinner, even skipping out on the rehearsal dinner the night before.
He knew that was a cold thing to do, but he was still a bit sore at Elijah for his words from the dinner. It honestly made him start to rethink about going back to D.C after this, suddenly life started to look a bit grey for Klaus. Deciding he needed some air, Klaus slipped out of the room quietly heading out to the backyard where the servants were setting up the isle and large tent for the reception.
As he neared the doors a familiar voice shouted from the yard, "no, no, no! The bar is supposed to be set up inside the tent, no ones going to be drinking before the ceremony!" Klaus couldn't help but chuckle, she hadn't changed a bit. He quietly snuck up behind her, her hair was pined up save for a few tendrils framing her face, and she was dressed in a pair of baby blue satin pajams with a matching robe. She looked stunning, he thought.
"I see you're still barking out orders." he finally spoke, Caroline whipped around startled. She quickly recovered turning back to party planning mode, "yeah well, no ones doing anything right around here and as maid of honor its my duty to help make sure Hayleys special day is perfect. And like hell I'm going to let it be ruined." she vented sucking in a breath.
Klaus couldn't contain his amusement, Caroline saw and frowned. "Don't laugh at me!"
Klaus raised his hands in surrender, "I'd never laugh at you love." he chuckled.
Caroline huffed unamused, "I have more thing's to see to." she turned to walk over the isle for inspection. Klaus followed after her, this might be his one chance to get to speak to her. "Caroline, wait." he called after her, but she kept walking. He rolled his eyes at her childish behavior, getting a few steps ahead of her he managed to cut her off standing infront of her. "I have thing's to do Klaus, move out of my way." she tried to bypass him but he blocked her path, she let out a frustrated huff, "seriously!?" she exclaimed crossing her arms in annoyance.
"I just want to talk." Klaus said, his eyes were silently pleading.
"About what? Theres nothing to talk about Klaus, so If you'll excuse me." she tried to step around him again.
"Like hell there isn't, I haven't seen you in years and now you're treating me as though I am a stranger to you!" Klaus sharply said.
Caroline narrowed her eyes, "and who's fault was that!? You were the one who left! Do you know how hard that was for me to leave you on that runway, knowing that I might not ever get to see you again." she shouted at him, turning a few heads nearby but neither party cared.
Klaus took a step back, it was true, he was the one to leave her. In technicality he did send her away, but it was all for the sake of her safety. And not a day went by where he didn't regret saying goodbye to her on that runway, everyday he wished he could go back and change it. Caroline sighed rubbing the side of her head, she shouldn't let herself get worked up, especially on a day like today.
"Look, I'm sorry for shouting at you. I was mad, but, I've moved on now. Stefan is a great guy, and he's great with Lizzy. Thing's are going really well, and I can't just drop it all for some guy from my past, that's not how it works." Klaus swallowed hard, was he mistaken or did her words indicate that she would consider getting back together with him? He pushed back the thought not wanting to get his hopes up.
"Yes, I've heard all about your boyfriend. He seems like a lovely chap, how did you two meet?" he tried to make the question sound as innocent as possible, Caroline was smarter though and knew what he was trying to do.
"I have to get back to making sure everything is perfect, see you at the ceremony Klaus." she turned away walking across the yard to the giant tent, Klaus watched her leave before returning back to the dressing room.
