A knock sounded at the door and Amber looked up. She had been on the bed just chilling and having some isolation time.
"Come in," Amber called out.
The door opened and Jenkins popped his head in.
"Oh, hi." Amber was surprised to see it was him. She figured he wanted the chance to ask more questions she wasn't ready to answer.
Jenkins opened the door and stepped in. The door closed behind him, and he sat down on the only place he could, the other end of the bed. They stared at each other for a moment. He looked around.
"I see you've already settled in," Jenkins commented.
"Yeah, I don't really own a lot of things," Amber replied.
She put her phone aside, "So…I assume you're here to ask more questions?"
Jenkins looked at her, "Yes and no. I promised you I wouldn't and I'm not going to ask. But I did speak to Mr. Carson and Colonel Baird."
"You told them?!" Amber exclaimed. "That was mine to tell."
"I know, and I'm sorry. Truly sorry. But this is bigger than just you. It affects more than just you. This affects me. I have no memories of those six months you say we knew each other."
Amber looked away, upset. She could understand why he did what he did. But this was her life, her history, and even her memories. She was the only ones who remembered all of this. He didn't. Jenkins let her have a moment to think.
She looked up, "Okay. I can't blame you for telling. Even though I'm still not happy about it but…you're right. What do you need from me?"
Jenkins sighed relieved.
"Flynn found an artifact that takes away memories and stores them. There's a chance that it holds my memories." Jenkins explained. He looked at her, "There's also a chance that I did this. That I purposely took those memories away to forget you."
Amber was speechless.
"But the artifact can also restore it. Unfortunately, I can't do this on my own. I must have the thing I forgot for it to work."
She looked down at her hands. She couldn't believe there was a chance that he did this on purpose. Her heart clenched and tears filled her eyes. She never thought he'd done this. She wiped her face before any tears could fall and looked at him.
Jenkins felt for her. He could see what she was holding back and wished he didn't have to do this to her. But he needed this.
"Okay, I'll help," Amber said.
Jenkins sighed in relief. He took her hands and thanked her. She nodded as she pulled her hands out from under his. She couldn't do this with him touching her. Jenkins pulled back; he could tell she didn't want him touching her.
"Will you come with me?" Jenkins asked. "I'm sure by now they may have found the artifact."
"Yeah," Amber replied then got up from the bed.
Jenkins got up as well and led her out the room. Together they went to their destination in silence. When they entered the room, they were greeted by Eve and Flynn.
"Ahh, I presume you found it?" Jenkins asked.
Flynn picked up the object. It looked like a little lantern. Black but with a little blue flame inside.
"That's the Memory Storer?" Jenkins looked at it in confusion.
"Yeah, it doesn't look much but this is what it is."
Amber stood by Jenkins as they peered into it.
"What's the blue flame?" She asked.
Eve replied, "According to the book, that's the stored memory."
Jenkins looked up, "this is my memories?
Flynn nodded.
Amber and Jenkins looked at each other.
"And it's been here for the last 50 years? Hidden away?" Jenkins asked.
Amber could only stay silent. She wanted to ask a bunch of questions. She looked at Jenkins as he examined the lantern. Were those six months really that bad that he had to remove his memories? Was she that bad? Did he not really love her?
Eve could tell she was beating herself up. She took Amber's arm and pulled her aside.
"Are you okay?" Eve whispered.
Amber shook her head, "Not really, no."
Eve sighed, "I know this is really hard."
"It's hard when the man you loved is standing right there and he has no clue who I am. Who I was to him. I don't know if I can do this," Amber said.
"You can. I don't even know you and I can tell you can do this. You're strong. You were given those visions and if you weren't strong enough, you wouldn't have them. I don't know what happened between you two but maybe this is a chance for you two to reconcile. Help Jenkins get back what was lost."
Amber nodded, "thanks."
Eve gave her a hug. They both then went back to the table where the men were. The men looked up at them. Flynn gave Eve a look and she shook her head. Jenkins looked at Amber and she gave no indication of anything to him.
"Okay, so what do we do? How does this work?" Amber asked.
"Well, the book doesn't say anything so we're just going to have to figure it out on our own," Flynn replied.
"Of course," Amber said. "Nothing could ever be this easy."
She took the lantern by the handle to examine it closer. She fiddled with the little door that as on it and opened it. Jenkins made a noise and put his hand on the handle to take it back, he didn't want to accidently break it.
But the moment his hand touched it, the blue flame lit up so brightly that it nearly blinded the two and then they disappeared.
"Whoa! Jenkins?!" Flynn cried out in surprise.
Both Eve and Flynn looked around but there was no one else with them. Jenkins and Amber had disappeared.
