Chapter 20: Palutena's Temple + DLC: The Truth Comes Out
Music playing: Palutena's Temple
Pit hopped into the Lightning Chariot, with the Hedgehog Claws equipped, to begin his mission. "Phos! Lux! Giddyup!" he ordered the unicorns and they complied by rushing out of the door and into Earth's orbit. As he zoomed through the orbit, Underworld enemies appeared to slow him down. During all of this, Lucifer telepathically came up to his brother. "Alright, Icarus, remember the plan we talked about," he said. "Since Viridi is starting to notice what is wrong with you, she is not going to help you with the mission. I'll be guiding you through the Earth's orbit so that you can make it to Palutena's temple and then kill her." "I understand," Pit replied. "They won't know what will become of this world." He then continued to take down more and more Underworld monsters that were standing in his way. "So, you mentioned to me before about this 'Heavenly Chariot.' Right, Lucifer?" he asked his brother. "Why, yes. I did," Lucifer responded. "In fact, I already have it with me in the Void. Once you make it to the temple and destroy the barrier, somebody else will be using that Lightning Chariot to bring it back to Viridi. I'll handle with the intruder later. Focus on the mission right now." "As you wish, brother," said Pit as he took down more and more enemies. He then noticed a portal coming up. "You're about to enter the warp tunnel," Lucifer pointed out. "This will take you to Palutena's temple to destroy the barrier." "I have a question to ask you, Lucifer," said Pit. "What is it, Icarus?" Lucifer replied. "How come Viridi isn't listening to us during the conversation?" Pit questioned. "Oh, the answer is a simple one. I simply blocked her so that she won't listen to our plans," Lucifer replied. "In fact, I'll be paying her a visit right now." Turns out, he was right.
Throughout all this, Viridi has been trying to contact Pit about the mission, but she couldn't seem to get a response. "Pit? Pit, where are you?!" she called out. "Are you out there?! Why can't I contact you again?!" But Lucifer was still blocking her from reaching the angel, and speak of the Devil himself, Lucifer telepathically came up to the Goddess of Nature. "My my. You seem to be having trouble reaching to Icarus, Goddess of Nature," he said. "Who are you?! Why can't I contact Pit?!" Viridi yelled. "My name is not up for discussion, but I can say that I am the one who is blocking you from talking to your angelic ally." "You are doing WHAT?! Is that why I can't reach Pit?!" Viridi asked in shock. "Pyrrhon did the same thing to Palutena during the fight against the Aurum army," Lucifer explained. "Wait... How do you know about the Aurum?" Pit questioned. "They are my minions, you fool," Lucifer replied. "Along with the Chaos Kin, they are part of the Dark Allies. The Space Pirates also helped me with my plans, and I cannot allow you to ruin them all. Now if you'll excuse me, I must take my leave. Business calls elsewhere." "You're insane! Do you have any idea what you are even doing?!" Viridi yelled. "I'll leave you to your own devices, Viridi," said Lucifer. "Don't worry. Everything will be just fine. I'll see you soon, Second Goddess of Nature." He then left Viridi all alone. "HEY! GET BACK HERE, YOU MONSTER!" she yelled, but there was no response. "You...you..." She then sobbed a fountain of tears.
Back in the warp tunnel, Pit was still taking down more Underworld enemies. "Sorry to miss out the rest of the fun, brother," said Lucifer. "I had other business to take care of." "Is Viridi still blocked, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "Yes, but it won't be long, Icarus," Lucifer warned. "I've only blocked her for the next 10 minutes. Once time is up, I'll be leaving you with her. Don't worry, she is only going to try and 'help' you 'save' Palutena from our hands. Make sure you don't listen to her words and instead kill the Goddess of Light. After that, steal her soul." "Got it," Pit affirmed. "Palutena is not going to stand in our way." Lucifer smiled to hear that as his brother took down more and more enemies. Until... "You're almost out of the warp tunnel to go straight to Palutena's temple," Lucifer pointed out. "Brace yourself, because it's going to be a bumpy ride, brother." "Here goes!" said Pit as he zoomed out of the portal.
Music stops and switches to: Destroyed Skyworld
The Lightning Chariot flew out of the portal and pierced right through the barrier, shattering and disintegrating it completely. "Excellent work, Icarus," said Lucifer. "Now all you have to do is to find Palutena and kill her." "That won't be a problem, Lucifer," Pit responded as he got off the Lightning Chariot. "Time to gather the soul for the ritual. Ouf!" He then roughly landed on his feet to complete his mission. He suddenly saw Dark Pit for a moment before he flew away. "I'll handle the Lightning Chariot while you go save Palutena," he said. "Don't keep us waiting for too long." But Pit didn't respond back to his dark counterpart. "Hey! A little 'thank you' would suffice," said Dark Pit, annoyed. Pit scoffed as he proceeded onwards. He then heard the voice of the Goddess of Light. "Hello again, Pit," she said. "Oh, it's you," Pit said after hearing her. "Now how did you make it through that barrier?" Palutena questioned. "It seems you're not the helpless, sniveling little thing you were before." Pit, however, didn't respond back to her. "Huh. How come you're not talking back to me?" Palutena asked. "I thought you were going to fight back against me in order for you to 'save' me." "*sigh* I guess there's no point in hiding it anymore," Pit started with a sigh. "I'm working with someone else who wants our family back. I don't need someone like you anymore. I will settle this once and for all!" Dark Pit was shocked to hear his counterpart say that. I never heard Pit say that before, he thought. Something is wrong. "So that is what you're telling me, huh?" said Palutena. "Very well. I'm waiting for you to arrive so that we can settle this. Not until you defeat my soldiers first." "Looking forward to it," Pit replied. Wait. That sounded very familiar, Viridi thought. "Icarus, be careful," Lucifer warned. "Viridi somehow found a way to escape from my prison. She's going to act more suspicious if you tell her the truth. Best to wait until the time comes. Right now, focus on the mission, kill Palutena, and bring her soul to me." "I'll do what I can for our family, Lucifer," Pit replied and continued onwards. Along the way, while taking down more centurions, he heard loud shockwaves from the sky. "What was that?" he gasped. "So, you appear before me once again, dark angel," said Lucifer. "I cannot allow you to interfere with my master plan. You'll never defeat me!" "Hah! Don't get your hopes up!" Dark Pit scoffed. "There's no way you can win once Pit brings Palutena back away from you! We must stop you from causing more chaos!" "I'd like to see you try, you foolish bastard," said Lucifer. "Dark Pit! You have to keep that monster at bay while Pit continues his mission!" Viridi ordered. "Find a way to take him down!" "That won't be a problem, Viridi," said Dark Pit. "Pit. Go and save Palutena as soon as possible. I'll take care of this monster." But, Pit still refused to reply to his dark counterpart. Something really seems to be wrong with him, Dark Pit thought to himself. "Icarus, our enemies are starting to realize what we're doing," Lucifer warned his brother. "It's best for you to wait until the time is right to reveal our master plan." Pit nodded and continued onwards. He then entered a hall, found an Exo Tank, and hopped in. "Use that Exo Tank to take down the soldiers," said Lucifer. "It might sound weird of me to say that, but it's the only way to disguise ourselves." Pit nodded and continued onwards while taking down some enemies. As he continued onwards, he decided to ask Lucifer something. "Lucifer, can you explain why we need to take down Palutena?" he asked. "We need to keep the Chaos Kin in check without having any minor slipups," Lucifer replied. "If you take down the Chaos Kin, our master plan will end up as a failure. So, kill Palutena and steal her soul for the ritual. Do not forget that." "Understood. It's time to put her out of her misery," Pit affirmed. "Good. Now to take down this piece of shit!" said Lucifer and there was another shockwave. "How dare you?!" Dark Pit yelled. "What do you expect from the Devil, Dark Pit?" Lucifer taunted. "I can hardly wait to taste that sweet victory once I defeat you." "Don't get your hopes up, monster!" said Dark Pit. Pit continued onwards after taking down more troops of Palutena's Army and went down some stairs. "Ah. This jail cell gives me memories about my past," said Lucifer. "I remember when I used to be part of Palutena's army back in the day." "You worked for Palutena in the past?" Pit asked his brother. "Why, yes. I did," Lucifer replied. "38 years ago to be exact. I built this jail cell to lock up soldiers who dare to defy me and disobey my orders. I may have also murdered them as well, but that's because they were so disposable anyway. Keep moving forward while I take down your dark counterpart." "That can be arrange, brother," Pit replied. "Palutena is going down." As he was almost out of the cells, there was a loud sound. "What's that noise?" he wondered. "Watch out, Icarus!" Lucifer warned. Pit got out of the cells just in time to see the Lightning Chariot in bad shape. "What the?!" he gasped. "No! I lost!" Dark Pit groaned in pain. "I'm sorry, Viridi. I couldn't stop him!" "It's okay, Dark Pit. I'll bring you back to my temple immediately," said Viridi. "I can't bring the Lightning Chariot back yet. It's going to take a while in doing so." "This isn't over yet, Lucifer!" Dark Pit yelled as he was whisked back to Viridi's temple. This isn't going very well, Viridi thought in worry. I hope Pit can save Palutena so that we can sort everything out. "Good news, Icarus. Dark Pit is out of our way for a little while," said Lucifer. "Now all you have to do is to complete your mission and kill Palutena." "Affirmative. It's time to finish this," said Pit but as he continued onwards to find a way out of the maze, he heard another voice. "Sorry I'm late! Thanks for clearing the way for me, Pitty Pat," he said and turns out, that came from Hades. "Oh, great. It's Mr. Personality," Viridi sighed. But, however, didn't say anything about him. "I just want to get this out there. The Chaos Kin doesn't work for me," said Hades. "It seems it built up quite the grudge being locked away in the Lunar Sanctum." "Well, you're not wrong about that, because it is indeed working for me," said Lucifer. "But you see, that's only going to be the least of your problems." "And what is that supposed to mean?" Viridi questioned. "You're going to have to wait in order to find out," Lucifer replied. "But enough talk. You fools still don't know what is coming to you next now that everything is going according to plan." "And what 'plan' are you even talking about?" Hades asked. "That's for me to know and for you to find out," Lucifer replied. Pit continued to take down more enemies and then obtained a key and unlocked the door to get out of the maze. "Will you look at that! The mouse made it to the cheese!" said Hades. "That's because this is only the beginning," said Lucifer. "Let's see if he can handle THIS! Take down the intruder, my soldiers!" After taking down all of the members of Palutena's Army, Pit continued onwards until he was outside with a windy path. "It's a long way down," he said. "No worries about that," said Lucifer. "It's not going to be easy anyway because of how powerful the wind is to you." "So would getting tossed around by the side winds ahead," said Hades. "My, my, Pitty Pat. Palutena must hate you even more than I do!" Pit still refused to say anything back at him. "Guess he's still giving you the silent treatment, Hades," said Lucifer. "Still acting all tough, eh Pit?" Palutena asked. "Just shut up and get it over with already," Pit scowled. Something CLEARLY isn't right at all, Viridi thought. Pit isn't supposed to act this way. This may be a hunch, but I believe it has something to do with what he did to me. I really have to get to the bottom of this soon. After making through the tough path, Pit continued onwards and found an Exo Tank. "Looks like someone left a tiny trike behind," said Hades. "It's an Exo Tank, dumbass," said Lucifer. "He's only doing that just to be annoying," said Pit as he hopped into the vehicle. "It's my motto, obviously," said Hades. "Well anyways, let's see if you can use it to take down my soldiers!" said Lucifer. Pit did so and took them all out with it. He then continued onwards though the gate. "Now let's see if you can hop over that area," said Lucifer. "You can also prove yourself my taking down the enemies blocking your path as well." Pit did so and got through the enemies successfully. "Not bad. But you're not done just yet," said Lucifer. "That's because there are still more enemies Lucifer spawned," said Viridi. "Then let's see if Pitty can handle them all," said Hades. "Oh. I'll be glad to show you, Hades!" said Pit. "I suggest you quit while you're ahead, Pit," Palutena warned. "Not a chance! I can outlast any enemy standing in my way!" said Pit. "And besides, I couldn't stop the chaos that already happened, so I'll just cause more chaos." "I'm impressed. Then I'll be waiting for you in my temple," said Palutena. "But see if you can survive this!" said Lucifer. Pit soon took down all of Lucifer's and was ready to finish this. "All right! It's finally time to save Palutena!" said Viridi. "'Save Palutena?' Don't you mean 'crush Palutena?'" Hades asked. Pit said nothing about that, drank another Drink of the Gods, and proceeded onwards to complete his mission.
Music stops and switches to: Boss Fight 2
Pit arrived at the heart of Palutena's temple where he faced the Goddess of Light herself, approaching him. "So you're here to fight me, Pit?" she asked. Pit, however, didn't respond to the question and instead got into a battle stance to answer it anyway. "Heh. So this is the answer I'm receiving, huh?" said Palutena. "Very well. Come at me, Pit. Show me how determined you are!" She soon got into her battle stance as well and the battle began. Palutena started the fight by attacking Pit, but the angel dodged them. "The Chaos Kin is close by. I can feel it," said Viridi. "You have to locate and destroy it. However, be sure not to hurt Palutena." Suddenly, she began to feel a dark energy force coming close to her. "W-What the?!" she gasped. "What's happening?! Why can't I fight back this-!" Before she could do anything, she was suddenly silent and Pit couldn't feel her anymore. "Don't worry, Icarus. I've managed to block Viridi for a short while," said Lucifer. "Don't listen to her words and instead follow my orders. Be careful not to attack the Chaos Kin. Sometimes it will come out from its hiding spot to attack you which is part of the distraction. Instead, focus your attacks on Palutena. Make her weak and then we will be ready to kill her for good." "Got it," Pit affirmed as he continued to dodge Palutena's attacks. Just then, the Chaos Kin got out of its hiding spot and attacked the angel. "My my. Pitty Pat sure is having a rough battle," said Hades. "It's going to be rougher later on, Hades," said Lucifer and to prove his point, Pit didn't attack the Chaos Kin and instead performed a melee combo on Palutena. "Oh my!" Hades gasped. "Good. Just like that, Icarus," said Lucifer. "Show no mercy and weaken her." "So that's how you want to play, huh Pit?" said Palutena. "Then I'll just have to make things more difficult for you." She then launched more light projectiles at the angel to attack him, but Pit still dodged them. "It'll take more than that to defeat me, Palutena!" said Pit. "Try dodging THIS!" He shot a charged shot at Palutena to deal big damage and stun her. Then, he furiously let loose a big melee combo. "What the?!" Hades gasped in shock. "I've never seen Pitty Pat this furious before!" Hehehehe. It's all going exactly as planned, Lucifer thought. Speaking of which, I believe it's time to release that goddess from her prison. He then released the dark energy force that was capturing Viridi, just in time for her to witness Pit giving Palutena the finishing blow and defeating her. "Aaaagh!" she cried in pain as she collapsed to the ground. "Pit! What have you done?!" Viridi yelled in disbelief.

Palutena slowly woke up in pain and saw Pit standing right in front of her. "P-Pit... Why are you doing this to me?" she asked him. "I protected you ever since you were a young little boy. W-What caused you to be this way?" "I'll give you the answer to the question, Palutena," said a sinister voice and a portal opened up to reveal Lucifer coming out of it. Palutena gasped in horror to see him. "It's you! What are you doing here, Lucifer?!" she yelled. "It's been a long time, Palutena," said Lucifer. "I'm here to enact my final revenge on you after what you've done to me!" He then took out the Sword of Death. "But before we can begin the execution, there is something all of you need to know," he continued. "My brother, Icarus, was working with me for our master plan the whole time." "WHAT?!" everyone yelled in shock. "Being with you foolish enemies was an inside job," Lucifer continued. "It was the only way to create a diversion and kill different victims of ours in order to complete our ritual. That's right. While you were fooling with our pawns, Icarus and I have defeated many of our victims and collected their souls for the ritual to open up a portal." This made Palutena cry in tears and Viridi furious. "You monster! You mean Pit was double crossing all of us?!" she yelled. "I...can't believe you would do this to us, Pit!" Palutena sobbed. "You've got to snap out of it! Lucifer is just using you for mass murder!" "Shut up! You don't have authority anymore, Palutena!" Lucifer snapped. "What better way to prove our point than to let your own angel murder you right on the very spot. Here you go, brother." He gave Pit the Sword of Death and the angel took it in his hands. "You know what to do, Icarus," he said. Pit nodded, walked up to the injured Goddess of Light, and raised up the weapon. "Please don't do this to me!" Palutena begged. "I want the same angel 'son' I know and love 28 years ago back!" "Don't listen to her, Icarus," Lucifer warned. "You should know that you're not her 'son.' Our REAL parents were murdered by her sister's hands. Kill her and show her no mercy." "Pitty Pat. I never thought I say this, but this is going too far!" Hades gasped. "In fact, that guy is the same prisoner who escaped from the Underworld! Don't listen to him!" "Never thought I say this either, but Hades is right!" said Viridi. "Think of another way to settle this! We can still change everything!" "SILENCE!" Lucifer yelled. "Icarus, kill her NOW!" Pit looked at Palutena with cold eyes and lowered the sword deep within her chest. "AAAAHH!" she cried in pain. Pit then gave out more and more stabs on Palutena while Lucifer sinisterly grinned. Viridi and Hades watched in shock and disbelief to see this happening. "*cough* P-Pit!" Palutena coughed. "Please! I'm begging you! S-Snap out of it! *cough* He's u-using you!" But it was no use and Pit gave her the final fatal stab to finish the job. The goddess screamed in pain as her vision begins to blur out. "Have you got any last words, immortal?" Lucifer asked. Palutena looked at the Devil and angel with tears falling from her sockets. "T-There is still hope! *cough*" she coughed. "Everybody else will stop you no m-matter what. You'll...n-never... *cough* w-win..." With that, she closed her eyes and died. Her body slowly faded away into dust and all that was left was her soul. "It it done," said Lucifer. "Now take the soul, Icarus, so that we can prepare ourselves for the next step of our master plan." Pit nodded and took the soul in his hands. "There is one crucial flaw, though," Lucifer added. "This soul is too powerful for the ritual, so we must perform a different one within the Chaos Vortex. Chaos Kin! Open up the portal to take us there!" The Chaos Kin flew right past the brothers and opened the portal to the Chaos Vortex. It then flew right into it. The angel brothers soon walked up to the portal, but did not enter it yet. "Before we go, there is something you need to know, Viridi," said Lucifer. "What do you mean?" asked the said Nature Goddess. "Icarus was the one who killed your commanders, Viridi," Lucifer explained. "We stole their souls for the ritual and now there is nothing you can do to stop us! We will be unstoppable! We will become a better group of rulers for the new world! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" He and Pit soon flew into the portal while Lucifer began to close it. "Y-YOU BACKSTABBERS!" Viridi yelled in sadness, with tears pouring out of her eyes. "Someone stop them! Anyone! Don't let them get away!" The remaining centurions tried to break open the portal, but it was too strong and small for them to go through. Suddenly, they heard another voice. "Out of the way! Coming through!" he said. It was Dark Pit riding the Lightning Chariot, and he used it to slam into the portal to split it open. He held onto the chariot tightly to avoid falling off. "AAAAHHH!" Lucifer and Pit yelled as they flew backwards after the impact. "Take us back, Viridi!" said Dark Pit. "We have to stop them before they destroy everything else!" "You're right. I'm bringing you back right now!" said Viridi as she opened up a light pillar and whisked both Dark Pit the chariot back to her temple.

Meanwhile in the Chaos Vortex, the brothers slowly got back up to their feet on a floating platform. "Ugh... That useless dark clone of yours broke open the portal," Lucifer grunted after standing up. "The good news is that we've just collected Palutena's soul for the ritual. We're just getting closer to finishing our master plan." "And what's the bad news, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "The bad news is that Palutena's soul is way too powerful for the ritual," Lucifer continued. "Not only that, Dark Icarus is going to arrive soon to stop us from completing our plans. Which is why we need to perform another ritual to control Palutena's soul." "Care to explain a little more about it, Lucifer?" Pit asked. "You see, this ritual involves the human souls Chaos Kin collected via its massacre in the Overworld," Lucifer explained as the Chaos Kin appeared next to him. "But since Dark Icarus is going to get over here as fast as he can to stop us, we need to act quickly before he ruins everything. Which is why I came up with a backup plan." He then snapped his fingers and multiple clones of their fallen foes appeared around them. "These incomplete clones of our previously fallen foes were created by me and the Chaos Kin," he continued. "They will be useful to slow down our target. If they fail, I will be handling the target. You'll be waiting for me at that area over there." He pointed his finger to a giant floeating arena far away from where they were. "Once we've defeated your dark counterpart, we'll perform the ritual and then place Palutena's soul in the ritual circle to be one step away from destroying the universe," he continued further. "Nothing will be able to stop us. Not even the foolish Underworld army! Are we clear?" The Chaos Kin nodded its head. "Yes, brother," Pit replied as he nodded as well. "Good. Now get everyone ready, Icarus," said Lucifer. "It's time to begin the execution of Dark Icarus." Everyone soon left the floating platform to begin their plan of attack.
Music stops and switches to: (M)TMB ARC Extended Music: Conflict
Meanwhile in Viridi's temple, the Goddess of Nature herself cried in Dark Pit's arms, ever since Lucifer revealed his master plan and Pit was, and still is, working with his evil brother. "I can't believe he would do this to all of us!" she sobbed. "Now I know why he abused me after I told him about the death of my commanders! He killed them with the help of Lucifer! *sniff* We can't let them commit more massacres to all of the innocents any longer!" Dark Pit had his arms and wings wrapped around Viridi with his right hand patting her head. "Don't worry, Viridi. I'll be heading over to the Chaos Vortex to put an end to their plans," he told her. "Nature and mankind will be avenged and Lucifer will be put in his place where he belongs! We'll bring Pit back home and tell him to start over a new life together with us!" But this made Viridi stop crying and opened her eyes in shock. She quickly let go of Dark Pit's embrace and stood back up. "Are you crazy?! You're going to get yourself killed!" she exclaimed. "After what happened to my commanders, I don't know what to do without you!" "Have you forgotten that I have Pandora's powers absorbed within me?" Dark Pit replied. "I'll be giving out an endless flight all the way to our destination. Besides, Lucifer will be the one going down and I'll bring Pit back here to help him reconsider his actions. He'll come back safe and sound. I promise." Viridi reluctantly nodded in agreement. "I-If you put it that way, then let's take a rest for the rest of the day," she said. "We have to get ready to stop Lucifer once and for all." Dark Pit nodded and the both of them went back to their rooms. But Viridi was silently crying in her room. I don't know about this, Dark Pit, she thought to herself. I hope you're right to bring Pit back home and convince him to join us again. This is our only chance. Let's hope we can stop both Lucifer and the Underworld.
