Chapter Sixteen
The following morning, Commissioner Gordon was at the GCPD's roof with Agent Moore watching the Pax Mundi's withdrawal.
"Thank God they're finally leaving," Sophie sighed.
"Luthor has them headed to Afghanistan," Gordon explained, "The orders came in as soon as Disco Mummy's threat ended. Seems Pres. McKay has ordered the withdrawal of American forces. Following her earlier orders to pull out of Iraq it seems we're out of the regime building business for now."
"There will always be future nation-states to build," Commander Kane brought them coffee, "The Pax Mundi is replacing both occupation forces as NATO withdraws. That gives them time to build up while we draw down."
"Most of the NATO members have already pulled out," Sophie enjoyed her first cup of coffee. The mornings were already brisk again in Gotham.
"I hear the Superior Court judges are releasing the Injustice Gang and Secret Society members arrested yesterday," Kane grimaced.
"Probably a condition of Disco Mummy hiring them in the first place," Barb opined, "But how she managed it I'll never know."
"They're all gubernatorial appointees so they're supposedly immune to corruption," Kane said derisively. Gordon choked on her coffee.
"They probably paid the governor to appoint them and the legislature to confirm them," Moore sighed sadly this time.
"Commish! Ya ain't gonna believe this one," Bullock announced as he stormed up the rooftop stairs, "Guess which office opened up late last night ta issue brand new licenses to a major perp?"
"The City's new Dept. of Legal Affairs Division of Crime," Barbara said sadly.
"An' guess who bought a coupla hundred licneses? Maybe even a thousand?" Bullock asked again.
"No!" Barbara replied in disbelief.
"Who?" Kane wondered.
"Black Mask, sir," Sophie explained, "He was the last holdout."
"But Intergang?" Barbara wondered.
"He paid `em off wit' interest mind you," Bullock told them, "Zsasz himself marched Black Mask inta da offices."
"That must have taken every dime Sionis could get his hands on," Gordon chuckled.
"I don't understand, why make Black Mask pay off Hellequin and Red Alice's debt? They stole the money and we know they torched it," Moore wondered.
"Who kin explain da criminal mind?" Bullock wondered.
"Actually it's pretty simple. Intergang just wanted the money back with a token slap on the wrist. They'd even quietly offered to let the Wonderland Gang keep a small percentage of it for revealing the banks' security issues," Barbara began explaining, "Sionis put bounties on their heads with the monies coming out of the stash and he himself collecting the rest."
"No cash, no bounties to be earned," Kane immediately grasped it.
"All intended to drive a wedge between Knightfall, Intergang, and the public at large," Gordon continued.
"Meanwhile, Knightfall is playing up the fact Disco Mummy threatened the city, first with her hirelings and then directly. The Justice League and Justice Society providing a response but one that was taking longer to accomplish than the Injustice League's direct confrontation," Kane recounted for Bullock's benefit, "For which she takes full credit for."
"But it takes time for the Injustice League to assemble and transit," Barbara continued, "Which means Knightfall knew in advance what Disco Mummy's plans were and she let it happen."
"Raatko could've warned her," Kane offered, "The Injustice groups and the Secret Society have a lot of overlapping relationships."
"So do the Legion of Doom and the Injustice League given that Fear Lantern, Red Lantern, and Count Vertigo are members of both," Sophie added.
"So Nyssa could easily have advance warning because Knightfall's morning paper press release states that the Secret Society, Injustice Gang, and Legion of Doom were all approached weeks ago about converging on Gotham on the same day just to beat the snot out of the JLI and the JSA," Barbara continued.
"Which doesn't account for Nyssa's relationship with Knightfall nor for Hellequin, Red Alice, and the Wonderland Gang getting a free pass in all of this with Intergang," Kane complained.
They all knew how hard it was for him to talk about Red Alice because she in turn was his long lost, and believed dead, daughter, Beth.
"Knightfall is beholden to Hellequin, Red Alice, the Wonderlanders, and the Jokerz over the Occupation and her return to public glory," Barbara surmised, "They must've negotiated a free pass system that all district managers are equally beholden to."
"It was flat butt weird to see the Riddler and his gang standing up for Gotham," Sophie opined.
"It's always a deeper game with Nygma," Gordon sighed, "None of his people except for Enigma partipicated in the defense of any district already defended by another group of Knightfall's district managers."
"Except for the Narrows and Tricorner," Moore added.
"Tricorner has dem bums, da KnightsQuest watchin' over it," Bullock grated
Vigilantes fell under his watch as chief of Major Crimes.
"And once again we abandoned Devil's Square to the Jokerz," Kane grumbled.
"Our last efforts to penetrate it went so well," Moore complained. She'd led the Crows penetration into Devil's Square with little to show for it but a long list of casualties.
"We know Charise Carnes is Knightfall and Roman Sionis is Black Mask, yet can't prove either. In fact, Carnes has doubled down the public's belief that she was wrongfully accused and charged by the GCPD. And her Knightfall perosna is currently the Queen of Gotham's public trust just as Carnes is the Queen of her elites," Gordon complained.
"Neither will last," Kane promised, "Both of them will slip up in a major way. Especially given Sionis' ego. He won't take kissing Knightfall's ring very well or for very long."
"An' somewhere in da middle alla dis is Derek Powers," Bullock ventured.
"Harvey?" Barbara asked her former partner.
"All I'm sayin' is dat a lotta Wayne Enterprises folks went missin' over da last coupla months," Bullock added to the discussion.
"And Powers is notoriously jealous of the prestige and influence Carnes, Sionis, and Narayana project in this city," Kane agreed.
"Erishkigal Narayana, now there's mystery," Barbara whistled, "No public appearances to speak of yet she wields financial clout like a weapon since taking of Ryder Corp."
"Do ya buy that Ruby Ryder jus' gave her da compnay before throwin' herself outta the penthouse window?" Bullock asked.
"Not for a damn second," Barbara grated.
"Good," Bullock was pleased by that.
"And Ryder Corp was at the heart of Disco Mummy's temple in the Narrows," Kane reminded them all, "Something Narayana claimed was a perversion of her youth center."
"It also paved the way for Carnes Development to buy up most of the Narrows and the edges of the Bowery and the East End neighboring it," Gordon recalled, "Carnes sold that land to Ryder Corp."
"You're suggesting a confluence of interests?" Kane wondered.
"I'm suggesting they courted an alliance," Gordon stated plainly, "I think the deal fell through which is why they were at cross purposes now."
"Cross purposes?" Bullock and Moore said together.
"Apocryphal paparazzi sighting of Narayana match the description the JLers and JSAers who confronted Disco Mummy yesteray gave us." Barbara explained.
"You think that's why Narayana is locked away from the world?" Kane asked.
"I think that if Erishkigal Narayana is Disco Mummy, then she has no use or interest in the living," Barbara added, "And I looked into her name. Disco Mummy claims to have been a Sumerian princess cursed and mummified alive in a tomb. Ereshkigal and Narayana are Sumerian goddesses. The goddess of death and the goddess of lust respectively."
"Damn," Bullock grumbled.
"Pretty indicting," Moore agreed.
"Or her parents could've just been history buffs," Kane countered, "At least that's what her counsel will say when she lawyers up."
"So, is she named after the goddesses or are they named after her?" Sophie asked.
"We'd have to ask her," Barbara warned her, "Which I don't think would be very healthy right now."
The subject of the latter part of the conversation studied Gotham out of her window. So, the Lords of Order and Chaos were opposed to her grand plan. But Saturn Queen indicated she could enjoy success on a smaller scale. A success that would endure until the 31st Century at least and of which she could enjoy in the New Chaotic Universe Saturn Queen was attempting to bring about for the Blue Flame of Chaos. A universe in which Order would have no representation. A universe in which death thrived even as it shaped new and horrific life. A universe that would embrace Disco Mummy at long last. Saturn Queen had come to the past to enlist immortal allies and she'd found one. Now to persuade Vandal Savage as well.
Artemis and Nubia proved to be difficult patients. Dr. Sharon Santiago discharged them both with Nurse Practitioner Anne Allen's blessing within a few hours. The medical staff in the Hall of Justice threw a party after they'd left. Strange Visitor seemed to recover just as mysteriously as she'd been stricken. She also received a release within a few hours.
Artemis was taken out for dinner by Steve Trevor to celebrate her recovery in progress. Nubia asked for time alone to pray and a chance to report in to Queen Diana to tell her of their mother's injuries.
No official word had come from the Fortress of Solitude as of yet so no one knew how Superman, Supergirl, and Power Girl were doing. A still worried Superwoman just promised to keep them apprised.
Shayera and John took upon themselves to alert Linda Park as to Wally West's brush with mortality. Including the apparent end of the Reverse Flash's threat despite his last words as the Time Wraiths collected him. They were seen as the desperate ravings of a condemned man. Linda had seemed a Flash fangirl at the opening of the Flash Musuem but living with the Flash in her life had proven much harder than she'd ever expected. But the news of Reverse Flash's passing bolstered her spirits and enthused her into reviving Wally's.
They also contacted Captain Joe West of the Central City Police Department, who knew Wally's secret identity and asked him for a furlough to granted. West promised that Hot Pursuit, Det. Patty Spivot, could fill in until the Flash was ready to suit up again. Wally had recently been reassigned from being a deputy forensics officer to the police carpool maintenance department. He seemed happier as a mechanic than attempting to follow Barry Allen's precise footsteps. His schedule was looser and still being in contact with Joe West got the Flash to the crime scenes he needed to intervene in. With Patty as his backup if needed
Jay Garrick was less involved with neighboring Keystone City these days. widening the Flash and Hot Pursuit's area of responsibility. But a Flash team up still occurred on occasion. Shayera and John were just happy to be sending Wally off to some much needed TLC.
"Kal-El, Linda Danvers, and Galatea will make full recoveries," Kelex predicted after a nerve wracking evening, "They are all awake and anxious to see each and every one of you."
Conner Kent and Megan Morse had joined in the vigil. Megan distracted Mia with her upcoming wedding plans in Arizona. Conner kept Jonathan and Laura busy with explaining former exploits with the Teen Titans before Young Justice was formed up. The legacy of the Teen Titans inspiring the formation of both the Young Justice Program and eventually the Outsiders. Jonathan was fascinated by the stories and of those regarding how he'd met M'gann later on after his relationship with Cassie Sandsmark, Wonder Girl, had soured. Laura seemed much more...calculating.
Conner sensed a great deal of anger emanating from her. Anger was something he knew too well not to recognize it. The scary part was that she reminded him of a younger version of Kalea. The only one of Superman's children to qualify as a sociopath. At least so far she'd been the only one. Laura was schooling at the K-Star Ranch with Young Justice despite her being two years under the age requirement and hadn't displayed any powers as of yet.
Suddenly Conner had an insight that Laura was displaying powers and keeping them secret. He also had the impression she knew how to use them to a greater degree than either Jon or Mia despite their being older and expressing them sooner.
Laura had a lot of free and unaccounted for time while the Justicers were training.
He recalled Karen's stories of her training sessions and he decided to look into any disappearances or unexplained homicides in nearby Albany when they returned to the K-Star Ranch.
Mia, Jon, and the twins were delighted to see Clark sitting up in his bio bed undergoing solar radiation immersion treatment. He'd had numerous broken bones after his encounter with Bizarro. Two broken ribs had even punctured a lung and collapsed it. Without Lana Linda's intervention, he would've died.
She'd said a few tearful hellos to Clark and then left to break down completely
M'gann and Linda, who was compeltely discharged, found her and stayed with her as Lana Linda grappled with the urgency of potential loss and how much she'd left unsaid so far since Lois abandoned her family and dedicated her life to killing her husband.
Conner and Laura checked in with Karen, who was anxious to leave. Kelex had threatened to restrain her. Conner also noted the he and Laura had the most amicable relationships with Karen, who also had major anger issues.
"I'm fine really," Clark assured his children.
"You almost died," Mia scolded him. A far cry from when she set out with Lois to kill him. But now she was convinced that Kal-El would never become Kal-L, her father, Lord Superman. Jon couldn't get over the fact that Bizarro had done this to him. The ruined clone had at least shown some restraint in the past. Carol and Jane were just pleased that Pappa was all right and that they were with him again.
Lana Linda made a reappearance and the kids gave them space.
"Linda, I know what you're going to…" he managed to say before she kissed him.
"Or maybe not," he confessed after the kiss hungrily ended.
"Don't you dare die on me," Lana Linda advised him. She'd lost an entire universe and didn't know if she could bear losing the man she'd loved since she was a child.
"Please, please don't die. I couldn't take losing you too," she admitted to him.
"Then I guess I'll have to make a full recovery, like Kelex said I would," this time Clark initiated the kiss. Peeking in through the half way closed door, Mia, Jon, Carol, and Jane watched with mixed feelings. But mostly they just were happy for their father and Lana Linda.
M'gann and Linda joined Conner and Laura sitting with Karen.
"Please tell them I can go now," Karen begged the new arrivals but particularly Linda Danvers.
"I'm sorry, Karen. But Blackstarr nearly killed you," Linda explained what Kelex had been able to deduce.
Karen settled down after that, "I do feel lousy."
"Mary will watch over Starrware," M'gann promised her.
Mary Bromfield was Karen's lieutenant at Starrware and its chief investment officer. Mary had an eye for emerging technologies to invest in or buy out.
"I know," Karen sighed, "I just feel so...useless just laying here."
"The world will go on without Power Girl for a few days," Conner promised her, "M'gann and I will make certain of it."
Superboy and Miss Martian were Young Justice graduates. They were only with the cadets as peer level instructors and mentors. That and as field exercise supervisors.
"We will, I promise," M'gann pledged. Karen knew then that Superboy and Miss Martian would take Power Girl's place in the JSA while she recuperated.
"I'm sorry this will slow your wedding plans," Karen said remorsefully.
"Not at all!" M'gann enthused, "I get to select my human dress and I wanted to do so in New York City anyways!"
"So my injury is convenient for you," Karen smirked.
"Karen…" M'gann scolded her.
"You'll be at the ceremony," Conner assured her. It would take place at a scenic vista in Arizona and officiated by J'onn J'onzz in his guise as John Jones, the Maricopa County Sheriff and licensed justice of the peace. Sheriff Jones had applied for the license just for this ceremony. Ma and Pa Kent would be there along with Clark and the Kent family with Lana Linda and Lana Lang and Cassie Sandsmark and Cissie King-Jones. Even Caitlin Fairchild would attend along with the Danvers sisters.
To round out the former Teen Titans attendees, Gar Logan and Rachel Roth were coming. Special provision was made for Beryl Hutchinson, Rose Wilson-Worth, Jason Todd, and Jason's plus one: Oracle, to attend without being arrested.
Mia Deardon and Conner Hawke were battling AIDS but they'd already recorded a video message to be played for the bride and groom.
"Kalea will be there," Laura made the surprise announcement. Even Karen was stunned by that.
"She'll find the time?'M'gann was uncertain about this development.
"She's making the time," Laura pledged.
"Then I guess Kalea will be there as well," Linda was also uncertain as how having Superman's rogue daughter present would affect the ceremony.
"As long as she behaves and no one tries killing her or us, I'll be happy to have her," Conner confessed.
M'gann telepathically linked with Conner and saw he was pleased the entire House of El, save Empress-in-waiting Thara Kal-El, would be present. In the Prime reality, Kalea and Thara had been Clark's only children since everyone else had been born of Lord Superman and Clark had inherited this family in the Rebirth New Universe. Whether through spite or ignorance, Glorith had retained both families in the New Universe.
Rebirth had tried fusing the histories but it got extremely messy. But Saturn Queen had restored the Kent family's memories of the Multiverse. Except those deranged enough to have always remembered it. Such as Kalea and Laura.
"Master Kal-El, a spacecraft has landed before the Fortress' entrance. A woman with a child is petitioning to enter," Kelex reported.
"Who are they?" Clark wondered.
"The Lady Maxima and your daughter, Thara Kal-El," Kelex explained.
"Maxima is alive!" Clark was so overjoyed that it caused Linda Lang to be jealous, "Of course they can enter."
"I shall bring them forthwith," Kelex pledged.
Maxima entered, not as the proud Empress she'd been before she'd abdicated, but as a penitent, "Kal-El, I...we, need shelter."
"Of course you can stay," Clark promised, "For as long as you want or need to."
Maxima caught the look in Linda's eyes, "Hopefully it won't be necessary for long."
"I didn't know you were still alive," Clark confessed.
"Kalea explained about that and a great many other things. We can talk later when I've had some rest and you've fully recuperated," Maxima allowed.
She turned, "And these must be your other children. Mia, of course. Jonathan Lane, Carol and Jane. But where is Laura? Kalea has told me so much about her in particular."
Mia and Jon exchanged "what the futz?" shrugs. Laura rushed in and hugged Maxima tightly, "Kalea told me you'd be coming. Is this Thara?"
"Of course it is, Laura. Meet your sister, Thara," Maxima coaxed the drowsy infant
Clark had never seen Maxima so maternal before. But the demands of state had detached her from Kalea. For which she paid the price of her throne...twice. Three times ultimately in the Prime Universe.
"Kalea helped you get Thara out. Didn't she?" Laura beamed proudly, "She said she would."
"Kalea felt the obligation since she placed Thara in the new government's hands to begin with when we both refused to be puppet empresses," Maxima explained.
"But she didn't kill you, obviously," Clark interjected.
"Kalea still remembers it that way too," Maxima told him, "She almost fainted when I contacted her. Poor girl looked as though she were staring at the specter of death itself."
"But Kalea helped?" Clark wanted to hear it again.
"She's...tidying our exit stratgey up after penetrating Almerac's palace grounds and liberating Thara. Would you like to hold her?" Maxima offered.
for the first time in over a year, Clark got to hold Thara Kal-El, his youngest daughter in any universe.
"Kalea told my Lois has your powers and is trying to kill you now. You'll have to catch me up on the drama later. But for now, Thara and I need rest and plenty of it. It's been a harrowing escape," Maxima stated.
"Kelex will stow your ship in the launch bay," Clark instructed the AI servitude.
"Of course," Kelex complied. The present avatar led Maxima and Thara to their guest suite.
"So that's Maxima," M'gann understated.
"That's Maxima," Linda Danvers agreed.
"There'll be hell to pay when Lois finds out," Karen had managed to walk to Clark's room with Conner and M'gann's support.
"We need to have a very specific chat," Lana Linda warned him.
"I'll go back to my room now," Karen volunteered, "Mia, Jon, why don't you bring the twins to my room? That includes you, Linda."
Unlike human domiciles, the fortress guaranteed privacy even from those with super hearing. Lana Linda and Clark needed to have a heart to heart Determine The Relationship talk. One that would affect the rest of their lives. Maxima's presence just complicated the DTR as much as it necessitated it.
In a former universe, Clark was going to spend the rest of his life with Maxima.
So what would he intend to do now that he remembered that choice and Maxima was suddenly returned from the dead? But then, this Maxima didn't remember any of those details. Her life had been strangely similar to the Prime Universe's Maxima but the details were vastly different. She'd had three affairs with Kal-El. two of which resulted in childbirth.
Lord Superman had been a total slut...especially with Lana. But Clark's personal kryptonite had always been Maxima. So Lana Linda wanted to know exactly where she stood in this new balance of relatiosnhips, as was only fair.
Wesley Dodds dreamed an Endless dream where he was met by both Morpheus and his sister, Death.
"Is my task done?' Wesley inquired.
"No," Morpheus replied, "I've shown you how your task ends."
"It ends when I say it ends," Death warned him, "You serve both of us. My needs haven't been fulfilled yet. So you're staying on task."
"Just lay back and dream the future, Wesley Dodds. You will be shown your part. As Sandy Hawkins, Lyn Hall, Nimue Inwudu, Vivienne Inwudu, Morgaine Inwudu, John Constantine, and the Enchantress will be shown theirs," Morpheus commanded, "The War of the Realms is beginning and Earth must stand prepared for Renfri the Evil Queen's forces. Just as Dorothy Gale, Snow White, and Rose Red play roles even I cannot foresee as of yet."
"And Goldilocks, Alice the Mad Hatter, and Tinker Bell," Death reminded her brother of three of her favorite pawns.
Delirium entered in, "It's almost time. Renfri is preparing her forces to converge on the Earth and the New Universe. I feel her madness growing within her. It's a delight."
"Business will be booming," Death agreed.
"Then let us prepare the humans for what is to come from the besieged Realms of Existence already fighting against the Evil Queen's forces," Morpheus pledged.
"Aw, you're concern for them is touching, brother. But they are finite. More so then most," Death replied.
"But they're deliciously chaotic," Delirium tittered.
"Which is why they are a focus of the Lords of Chaos and Order. They possess the Divine Spark and therefore champion either Order or Chaos even in the smallest choices they make," Morpheus spoke proudly, "Can the mortals, the fey, or other beings of other Realms of Existence say the same?"
"And the humans have displayed insane courage against a foe that even the Lords of Order quake before," Delirium laughed.
"They've been the only Realm and race to stand against her ambitions," Death agreed, "Which is why her ego demands she commit all of her unholy and twisted forces against them now."
"Tell the humans that, Wesley Dodds. Warn them of what is to come. Unite the Inwudu sisters. They may be banished from Avalon but they are still High Fae cursed to seem mortal. But Renfri is still only Unseelie despite her slaying all of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts of Faery to break the curse and unlock her core magic and release her from the Wild Hunt's death mark," Morpheus commanded, "This will end your task on earth Wesley Dodds. And then you can return to your eternal reward."
"And you might mention that Renfri unlocked Valhalla and Nifelheim. So the warrior dead and the damned of the Nine Realms walk amongst human kind again," Death added, "Just an FYI."
"Gudra and Brunhilde will lead the Valkyrie in the Last Ride at the side of the Fourth Reich," Delirium giggled, "The new Masked Leader is one of my disciples."
"I will warn them," Wesley promised.
"Do more than warn them, Wesely Dodds. Rally them. You are the Sandman in my stead," Morpheus instructed, "Now rest and slumber peacefully. Your task begins anew when you wake."
Wesley's night afterwards was spent dreaming of his long dead wife. How she would've loved his latest mission and knowing he'd rejoined the Justice Society he'd helped found beside Green Lantern, the Flash, the Hawkman of that time, the original Atom, Dr. Fate, the Specter, Starman and Wildcat. Later, Dr. Midnight, Wonder Woman, Johnny Thunder, Mr. Terrific, Hawkwoman, and Black Canary would join them as well. They would become legends that would inspire Superman amongst others. But for now, Wesley enjoyed dreaming of her, feeling as though she was with him.
In every Realm the Evil Queen invaded, she replicated a variation of her original Castle of the Blackest Night she constructed with dark magic in the Realm of Fables where she'd usurped Snow White's throne. Renfri understood that the foolish governor she'd left in her place had failed her and Snow White and Rose Red had finally liberated the Realm...for now. Her forces still occupied neighboring Oz, Wonderland, Neverland, the Realm of Faery, and extended into the Shadow Realms, Limbo, and with forays and positions in all of the Nine Realms once ruled by Asgard. Olympus was hers to hold as well. The Land of the Nightshades was under attack while an occupation force was entering the wreckage left behind by the Light in the Fourth World.
There they found Darkseid laid out and slumbering before the Tower of Pain. He'd awaken in a thousand years. Until then, Apokolips was a gutted ruin to scavenge from as was New Genesis and Supertown. It was Renfri's merging of science with sorcery, warping spirit and flesh that had her cursed by the Seelie and Unseelie Courts of Faery. Unable to tap her inborn core magic but still able to shape and bend magic to her will.
They'd also placed a death mark on her name. Whenever it was uttered, the Wild Hunt would be dispatched to kill her. For fourteen billion years, this went on as Renfri traveled the Realms and expanded her knowledge of both sorcery and science. Always traveling under an alias. But her identity would always be discovered or betrayed by lesser fey. But in her travels she met those as disaffected as she was and they pledged their lives to serve her. So began her conquests
some Realms and lands within them she took through brute force.
Others through guile as she had the High King of the Realm of Fables. There his daughters, Snow White and Rose Red led the inevitable rebellion against her rule
to dissuade them and baffle their efforts, Renfri perpetuated the lie that the Evil Queen had been slain by the Dark Lord Saron. Some didn't fear the name of Saron and came out of hiding, to be captured or slain. Others, such as the Princesses, dug in deeper and mounted a greater resitance against Saron's forces. The third camp were those that relaxed their guard.
These gullibles were ripe for the plucking until her machinations in Wonderland sent the White Queen's illegitimate daughter, Alice the Mad Hatter, set forth against the Realms. Alice traveled one step ahead of the Evil Queen's armies and always left a Realm on a war footing, therefore prepared for the Evil Queen's, or "Saron's" invasion. But they didn't fear Saron as they had the Evil Queen so despite Alice's intervention, they sold themselves into Saron's slavery. Only to find the "Dark Lord" was every bit as cruel as the Evil Queen "he'd defeated".
Things took a bizarre twist wnen Alice reached Neverland. There, the "Dark Lord" had persuaded Peter Pan and Captain Hook to join forces and rule together in "his" stead as Saron's regents. Princess Tiger Lilly led the resistance when Alice arrived
the pixie named Tinker Bell aided Alice's struggle against Pan and Hook.
Together, they killed everyone. But Tiger Lily kept up the pretense through the palantir Pan had been given to report to Saron of his and Hook's victories over any and all resistance.
Tinker Bell set forth to depart Neverland by Alice's side and they continued Alice's mission together, united in mind, body and soul. So it was they eventually married
but they made implacable foes in the process. Mamie Mannering, the first human girl Peter brought to Neverland and transformed into an immortal like him, was lost saying goodbye to her family in 1840s London. It took her over a century and half to rediscover which "second star to the right" led to Neverland. Arriving only to find Pan dead and his Shadow seeking vengeance. So they set out to achieve that goal together.
In Oz, after Alice and Tinker Bell terrorized the Realm, Ozma and the Wizard concocted a desperate plan over Glinda's dissent. They would liberate Dorothy Gale, the last Wicked Witch. Dorothy had sacrificed the others to achieve immortality through drinking their blood. The girl meant to save Oz became its worst nightmare. So they'd locked in the deepest dungeons beneath the Emerlad City. A hell hole so severe people forgot why they were even there or who they were in their suffering. But Dorothy retained her mind and her desire for revenge. The deal was simple: her freedom and banishment from Oz in exchange for killing Alice and Tinker Bell
Dorothy took up the hunt and eventually met Mamie and Pan's Shadow on the same quest. So they allied themselves together in a common cause. A cause that ironically led them to Earth. So there, all the players were gathered.
Renfri having relocated her base of operations after being defeated by the Justice League, the Outsiders, and the Justice Society on three occasions already. The Evil Queen had never lost to anyone before. Vanity demanded that she win at all costs and that she lead the victory herself. So the Evil Queen conjured a Castle of the Blackest Night at the height of the Andes Mountains, obscured from prying eyes
but even so, located once by the Wicked Witch. Their enmity sealed by that meeting.
The Evil Queen's cruel smile only grew as her force s gathered. Snow White was said to have abdicated her throne to hunt Renfri down. Her spies told her Snow had made it to Earth. So all of her greatets enemies were gathered on one world within one Realm. How could she lose?

Origins
The Iron Knife is a superhuman African warlord. He murdered his way up the ranks of various Congolese militias , eventually forming his own small army. Some time ago he claimed parts of Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Cameroon, and Gabon. He named this territory the Iron Country and appointed himself president.
Africa's greatest heroes; Kwango Joe, Great Power Tyson, and the White Warlord, have all tried but have not yet been able to defeat the Iron Knife in combat.
