The sounds of the guns clicking echoed through the tension in the air. Kya stepped back, her hands starting to tremble. The plan failed. She couldn't stand by and watch the others be killed. Malice was slowly taking over Seymour. "No, no. Let them go." Kya was desperate for Yuna's and her guardian's safety. She didn't want to see her uncle or her childhood friend die either. Seymour glared at his newlywed wife. "Do not interfere. Trust your husband." He says, cooly. Seymour's hatred could be felt like a growing wildfire. Shaking her head, she looked at Yuna as she smiled, stepping close to the edge of the platform. This distraction appears to work as Seymour turns his attention to the summoner. Kya slowly backed down the steps, closer to Kalani who was ready to grab her. "This is foolish. If you fall, you'll die." Seymour warns. The summoner shook her head and looked at her guardians. One more step and she will fall. The boy in strange clothes shouted, wanting to save her but Yuna only said, "Believe." And just like that, she fell.
There were sounds of communication and confusion when Kya heard a young girl shout, "Cover your eyes!" Kya was blinded by a white light when she felt someone pulling her down the steps and away from the chaos. Once her vision cleared, she saw that it was Kalani saving her again. She could keep up with the speed this time until the guardians reached a small room, leading down a flight of stairs and twisting down in a spiral. "It's too quiet. A trap?" The black mage, Lulu, had spoken, breaking the silence of the cold room. "Who cares? Yuna's waiting for us!" The boy with strange clothes nearly shouted. The group stood there as if unsure what to do when the smallest member of the group noticed a console. "What's a machina doing in the temple?" Wakka sounded frustrated and exhausted. "I suppose it comes in handy." Rikku comments. Kya noticed that this was the same girl who recognized Kalani in Guadosalam. "Is that Rikku, the girl you told me about?" Kya asked Kalani in a low voice as she listened to the complaints from Wakka, complaining about the teachings. Kalani nodded. "She may be young but she's very smart when it comes to machina."
"Hey, I heard that!" Rikku giggles, who seemed to be eavesdropping on the conversation. Even in the darkest moments, Kya could tell that Rikku tried to remain positive and upbeat. The group entered the lift as it lowered them down to the Clostier of Trails. It would seem that Yevon was full of secrets. The teachings about the forbidden machina rested inside these walls. Kya began to wonder if they were trying to hide something far more dangerous as the group tackled forcefields and the tedious task of unlocking pathways to the Clostier of Trails. She felt a sense of relief as the group finally reached the waiting room. Kya stood by herself away from the others. The teachings of Yevon start to become meaningless. All those years training to be a High Priestess so that she could help protect the people of Spira and offer advice to traveling summoners felt like it was a waste.
"You are troubled." Auron had walked over to Kya who was looking down at her feet. It felt like lately, she couldn't look anyone in the eyes, not even her own family that she had left. "I-I...it's just..." Kya struggled to find the words to speak as if she was trying to find the correct piece of a puzzle. Kya became distracted by the blonde-haired guardian who was struggling to open the door to the room of the fayth where Yuna should be. She watched the argument between him and Wakka as the Ronso joined the young male to lift the door. "You can tell me later." Auron assured. Somehow that made Kya feel slightly better while she watch Auron join the young guardian. Kya started to feel uneasy. Whatever was going on in the room of the fayth was taking longer than she would have liked. She noticed the others began to feel uneasy as well. Of course, anyone would be on edge after dealing with Seymour and his men.
"Umm..." Rikku approached Kya slowly as if she was afraid that she might bite even though they were both the same height. "What is it?" Kya tilted her head. "You're Kya right? Kalani told me so much about you." Rikku beamed with happiness. This caught Kya by a surprise. Kalani has been talking about me? I'm happy to know that I was in his thoughts as he was in mine during this entire time. Curiosity crossed her mind, what did Kalani say about her and was good or bad? "I'm glad to hear. Good things I hope." Kya chuckles nervously. "It was all good things! He even said you knew some Al Bhed and how you helped him learn how to talk to others in um-what is it called? The language the rest of Spira talks in?" Rikku scratched her chin, thinking.
"Spiran?"
"Right! That! Thanks to him and a few others, I was able to learn how to speak Spiran. So I guess, thank you? Without you teaching him, he wouldn't have been able to teach me either." Rikku suddenly wrapped her arms around Kya. She wasn't sure of the correct reaction at first but soon embraced the young girl in a hug. Kya noticed Kalani laughing softly to himself as he watched the two. Sticking out her tongue, Kya raised her middle finger to Kalani as he shrugged and did the same to her. It was a secret language between the two. Only they understood the meaning of the inappropriate joke. The wait grew longer and unbearable as Kya paced back and forth in the room. The others remained silent lost in their own thoughts. Footsteps echoed in the hallway followed by a familiar voice.
"I knew you all would be waiting here." Kinoc walked into the room, accompanied by guards. His eyes rested on Kya. "It's a shame that you would run away from your husband like that." He said with a hint of disappointment. Kya froze, glaring at Kinoc. "Wait, don't come out!" Rikku shouted suddenly, despite the Yevon breaking most of their traditions, Kya was sure that they wouldn't break the teachings of interfering with a summoner's prayer to the Fayth. The blonde-haired teenager walked out the door, carrying Yuna in his arms with Auron behind him. "There's the last of them. You are to stand trial." Kinoc orders as the guards aimed their guns toward the group. Auron chuckled as he didn't want to take his friend seriously. "I expect it will be a fair trial." This comment made Kinoc scoff. "Heh-heh. Of course, it will."
Kya felt her world start to spin out of control as she was escorted by the guards. She realized quickly that she won't be facing the trail as she watched the guardians and Kalani head towards a different path. Soon, before she realized it, she was face to face with Seymour. "I have missed you, my lovely wife." He greeted her with a soothing voice that sent chills down Kya's back. Her fight for her own freedom will soon begin. Suddenly, Kya felt stronger and more confident in herself. Was it the fact she was starting to realize what she wanted in life? Or was it being surrounded by others who lit up her world that had been surrounded in darkness all these years?
Standing tall, Kya would not back down this time. She was a High Priestess whose duty are to protect the people of Spira and guide Summoners on their pilgrimage to defeat Sin. And Kya will do exactly that even if it means being shunned by Yevon. Kya could feel Seymour's icy eyes on her body as if he was studying for a much evil purpose. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, my dear." Kya lied behind a voice of harmony to Seymour's ears, but she knew she must play the part she had been chosen. This seems to please Seymour as he steps closer to her, his long slender fingers tracing the spine of her back. She wanted to punch him. "You are tensed. Please, relax. I will never hurt you."
"Then tell me, why do you want to marry me? Actually, why did you use Yuna?" Kya snapped. Deciding she'd rather anger him with those questions than lay in bed with him. Seymour chuckled dryly as he stroked her hair, his cold stare darkening. "I must become Sin. To destroy Spira and free people of their sorrow." His voice now had a malice tone. Kya couldn't help but laugh at this. "And that's why you wanted to marry one of us? Are you kidding me?" She laughed harder, knowing this was provoking her husband. "Yet you acted like you needed to marry me although Yuna would have been just as good of a vessel as I am. You needed our-my- powers for that?" Kya began to pace the room, breaking away from Seymour who was standing silently.
"You're a High Priestess. That is your duty. To aid the summoner and her chosen guardian to become Sin. Only you can help complete the task like your mother did before you." He answers in a dark tone. Kya doesn't say anything as she stopped pacing and giggled. "You find this a joke?" Seymour glares. "I never wanted to be a High Priestess. I don't care. If you want my help to help you become Sin then good luck. I refuse." Kya warns before Seymour could act, the doors slammed open.
"Maester Seymour, we need you at the trail. I suppose your wife could join in as well." Kinoc explains. "I'm afraid she won't be joining us, she is feeling unwell." Seymour tried to inform them but was quickly interrupted. "I will join. I feel better now." Kya stormed past Seymour as she walked to the trail room. She knew she must play her cards right, Seymour's soul was slowly becoming corrupted by the hatred he had as he continued to stay unsent. Kya stormed down the dimmed-lit halls, her thoughts elsewhere. She wasn't sure how she was going to stop an unsent but she knew she would have to find a way to distract him so that Yuna can finish the sending. The longer Seymour stayed in this world, the more he would become corrupt in his dark thoughts and sickening desires.
I must become Sin.
Those words played on repeat inside her head until she reached the High Court of Yevon. "The High Court of Yevon is now in session." A deep voice echoed in the courtroom. Kya remained at the doorway for a moment, hesitating to walk inside. "We need to join." Seymour whispered, sneaking behind her. Taking a deep breath, Kya made herself move forward as the session of the trail had now begun. "The sacred offices of this court seek nothing but absolute truth, in Yevon's name." Kelk, a Ronso and Maester of Yevon was now speaking. "To those on trial: Believe in Yevon, and speak only the truth."
