Hi, so this is my first story for this pairing and I have to admit I am liking it so far so let's see where it goes! I hope you all enjoy this story and this chapter.
Leah is criminally underused and criminally treated. She's the Rosalie of the Wolf Pack. Seriously the shit that she goes through because she's not skipping at the idea of being Emily's maid of honour (and seriously what the fuck possessed Emily to ask that? Like seriously Stephanie). So this story is a love letter to Leah.
I also have a huge amount of respect for Embry's Mom. Not sorry. Also I know she has a different name in the books to here but here she is Layla and she was seventeen when she got pregnant.
Also on Embry's father...I know a lot people assume it is Joshua Uley but somehow that seems to nice and neat, I also think it's pretty ironic, that both Jacob and Quill end up being friends with a kid who might be their half brother. So my views on Embry's Dad is that is has to be one of them and I do tend to lead towards Billy just for reasons I can't name. The council bit deciding whose parents should know and who doesn't is my own and I know it does not correlate with the books but then again this whole story is AU so (shrugs), I just think it's a fun angle to explore that everyone is terrified with who Embry's father could be.
Again, all of this is my own design, the characters belong to someone else, I am just playing in my writers box.

A First Time For Everything
Chapter 5-Sins Of The Mother
Embry sees Bella Swan as he and Seth report to the Cullen's. Sobering doesn't begin to cover it and Jacob wants answers about why Embry deflected.
He'd only been in the Cullen house once before and that time he'd been wearing jeans, a t-shirt, shoes and had the foresight to shower beforehand. Now he was half naked, covered in mud, barefoot and probably stank to boot and he was walking into what he knew for a fact would be considered his mother's dream house.
Seth walked in like he owned the place.
"Hey Edward, hey Bella"
"Hello Seth" came the low reply from Edward Cullen and as he rounded the corner into a living room that was decked out like it was a three page spread in Architect Digest to see Edward Cullen sat on the couch his wife's feet in his lap and her on her side watching them with wide brown eyes.
And it took everything that Embry had not to vomit just by looking at her.
Bella was beyond what a normal pregnancy should look like. She had ballooned enormously, her whole body dwarfed around her stomach and her body emancipated because of that. She was brittle, fragile, bones sticking out of her thin clothes and her bump which she was caressing with fragile hands was covered in bruises. Her eyes were glazed half looking at them half not and Embry was suddenly very thankful that Sam had not sent them into battle the night before because looking at Bella now there was no argument, none that could be made for her keeping that thing inside of her. Even looking at her now was utterly sickening and it made Embry want to clamp down on the vomit that he was sure was churning in his stomach. He was going to throw up he was sure of it as the glazed brown eyes met his and Bella's hand fluttered against her belly as Edward and the blonde vampire who was every man's wet dream (when you got over the whole vampire thing no doubt) helped her sit up with an agonizing slowness.
"Hey Bella" Seth said in a softer tone than Embry had ever heard him use before. "Hey I wanted to tell you that Leah and Embry have come to join us, they've decided to join Jake's pack. Jake isn't very happy about it but what can you do?" he added with a shrug and a smile that didn't meet his eyes.
"Hello Embry" Bella Swan…or was it Bella Cullen now, said softly her hand outstretched as if she wanted him to come closer but Embry couldn't have gone near her and the thing inside of her even if there had been a cash prize involved. Already it was too much and he had to ball his hands into fists in order to keep down the shaking that indicated how much he wanted to escape to the mindness, numbness that came with transforming into a werewolf.
"Hello Bella" he managed quietly but he couldn't tear his eyes off her if his life depended on it. Bella smiled at him and her hand ran down her stomach again as if she was caressing the thing sucking the life out of her and for the life of him Embry couldn't understand it. He had come here because he had believed Bella had a choice to make but now that he was seeing it in the flesh he couldn't help but think that Sam had a point. God only knows what was inside of her if it was doing this much damage this early.
Edward Cullen glared at him over the couch and Embry realised with a sudden swoop that he had heard his thoughts but he couldn't bring it in him to care he really couldn't.
Fucker should have thought about consequences before he had knocked up his human wife. Before he had even tried to sleep with his human wife. Before he had fallen in love with human wife. Why he couldn't have just turned her the first time she'd been bitten (and yes he knew that story) he didn't know.
And now they were here.
"Embry" came a voice from his left and he turned to see Doctor Cullen standing there his hand outstretched and out of good manners and nothing more Embry shook his hand and he did a pretty good job (if one did say so himself) of not flinching at the cold touch.
"Doctor Cullen"
"Call me Carlisle son please…make this easier on me…and I want you to know…" he stopped and Embry could see the exact moment that he changed tact.
"I want you to know how deeply we appreciate this, please know that our home is now your home, if you wish to use any of the facilities including beds, showers, the kitchen etc then please feel free. Likewise if you would like to tell your parents where you are then please feel free to use one of our phones, I would hate for your mother to be worried…please…if she wishes to come to the house to check on your wellbeing then she is more than welcome too"
Embry nodded though in truth it was more politeness than anything else. He was a little stunned to tell the truth. He had not been expecting this.
Seth chatted away completely at ease with the vampires and explaining in great detail what was happening now and what was going to happen next. Embry couldn't help but stare at Bella in between Seth's talks. She wasn't looking at him but he was hyper aware that every move and indeed every thought that he was thinking. Suddenly it was all that he could do not to transform. He did not know what to make of this but he knew it wasn't good, wasn't natural. There was nothing about Bella Swan in this moment that he could admire and though he knew that there was a very good reason why Leah had refused to come into the house he suddenly wanted her at his side with every fibre of his being.
(And what that meant he didn't dare even try to pick apart right now.)
"Err…I should go and see Jacob" he said quietly. He couldn't describe his desire to get out of this room but…there was one more thing.
"I should warn you Doctor I kinda half expect my Mom rolling up her at some point shotgun in hand and that ain't gonna be pretty. Or I have to call her and—"
"Would you like to do that now?"
"Absolutely not"
Carlisle Cullen chuckled once. "Alright" he said quietly "But you should speak to your Mother at some point Embry. I would hate to be the cause of her worry"
Embry nodded and fled.
That was the problem he thought as he walked down the steps and sat on the ground next to the river, Doctor Cullen was far more human than all other people and it was a hard juxtaposition.
"You seen her?" came a rough voice and he turned to see Jacob walking towards him.
"Yes" Embry said flatly. "Give me ten minutes and I can help Leah with her patrolling—"
"Nah she's good. She's so ecstatic that she's escaped from Sam that she's good doing it on her own. I'd stay away for a bit, the happiness is enough so that you could choke on it"
"Don't" Embry said quietly. "You don't know what it's like for her"
Jacob raised an eyebrow sitting down next to him. "Since when did you defend Leah?"
Embry shrugged.
"She's reacting to a specific set of circumstances" he said quietly. "So did you. Shoot me if it's nice not to dream of slitting Emily's throat or fucking Bella Swan"
Jacob shot him a look and then he deflated.
"Yeah I guess I did screw you on that one" he said finally. "And…and I'm not completely heartless. I always did wonder why someone as nice as Emily would think it's a good idea to make Leah her maid of honour"
Embry ripped out some grass and then put it down again feeling like a dick. For all he knew the Cullen's had some special lawnmowing thing going on.
"You know they offered us beds, showers etc"
"Yeah the Docs funny like that"
"Makes me feel bad for trying to kill him"
Jacob smiled and this time it was a genuine one.
"Yeah well…I think he'll survive" was all he said quietly. "What was that about your Mom? I overheard it but I wasn't listening that much"
"I told her before I left, on a voicemail"
Jacob stared at him for a second and then whistled lowly. "Bloody hell Embry"
"Yep" he said popping the p. "I'm guessing at some point she's going to show up with a bottle of vodka and demand the explanation, that's if she hasn't cut Sam's balls off beforehand for all the lying"
"Wait…" Jacob said his brow furrowing. "Sam let you tell your mother?"
"Oh no"
"I thought after the wedding that was a shoe in—"
"It was until Sam told me the council—" and here he was spitting the words out bitterness coating his tongue like a foul tasting thing.
"Had made an executive decision to not widen the circle as he called it."
"And my Dad went along with that? He was all for telling her last time I spoke to him"
"Yeah well…talking the talk and walking the walk are two very different things" Embry said finally. "And you know why don't you? You know what they are all afraid off"
"No I don't"
"Jake come on"
"Embry contrary to popular belief my Dad doesn't come home from those meetings to give me a play by play account of what happens, I don't know what's going to happen next but if whatever happened has made you come here then—"
"If she knows then she's going to tell me" Embry said quietly. "It's why I don't want her showing up here"
"Not the hoard of murderous vampires?"
"Ah you've met my mother Jake, she can handle the murderous vampires. What she's going to do with Sue when she finds out she's been looking down her nose at her having known what was going on all these months is another story"
Jake snorted and then...
"What's she going to tell you"
Embry looked at him because surely Jacob could not be that dense?"
"My Dad" he said finally. "She has to tell me who he is doesn't she? And that's something that the council don't want to know. It's either Old Quill's son, or Joshua Uley and believe me Sam doesn't want to know if we are half brothers or—"
"Or my Dad" Jacob said finally.
"Yeah and if my Mom tells me—"
"Then it gets out and you've got a brother"
"Yeah that doesn't bother me, it's…having to look either Billy or Quill in the eye and know that they could have…that we could have…that we didn't have to struggle so much during my childhood. It's the whole seventeen year old girl while they were married men. It's everything else. No offense Jake but I think right now I'd punch your old man clean out if it was him"
Jake said nothing for a second and then.
"I asked him once you know? Rachel asked him once too. I think that might be why she left the last time but…but I asked him, he didn't give me an answer. Quill won't ask his Dad. And you know the reality of it is that it is probably Joshua Uley. With his reputation there's probably a smattering of half wolves all up and down the country"
There were times when Jake could be quite intuitive.
"Yeah well…I couldn't stay after that. Leah understands all of that, she understands a lot of it and we should be nicer to Leah too"
"NICER TO LEAH?"
"Shout a little bit louder Jake I don't think the Cullen's heard you and yes. She's not…she's not the antithesis of evil you know"
Jacob shot him another long look and then…
"Yeah well this will be over soon, she can't hold out much longer and then it's over…then it's all over" he finished that on a strange note and Embry opened his mouth to ask just what the hell Jacob had done (a lifetime of friendship had taught him to recognise the signs of Jake in crisis) but before he could Jacob had clapped a hand on his shoulder and forced a smile onto his face which had nothing to do with Embry and everything to do with the girl on the couch giving up her life to what had to be some kind of demon child.
"For what it's worth Embry I'm really glad you're here. And…and I really wish you were my brother sometimes, I know what that means for my Mom and Dad but…but sometimes I wish it was Billy you know?"
"Yeah" Embry said leaning into the hug. "Cause Billy's the one I wish for"
They stayed in that little embrace for a while until they heard footsteps and they broke apart.
It was Seth who cheerfully walked into this deep moment without a care in the world as to what was happening.
"It kicked out another rib" he said smile dimming somewhat and Jacob groaned and it took Embry a second for his brain to catch up.
"It's breaking ribs everytime it moves?"
"She calls it stretching" Jacob said into his hands. "She can't eat because they don't know what to feed it, it's starving her from the inside out and she's just…she won't let them touch her."
"How?"
"You remember Blondie?"
"Rosalie Jake—"
"Whatever Seth, she's parked herself in front of this like a protestor at a bank and she won't shift. Emmett won't let his wife be taken apart and put back together like a jigsaw puzzle and so it goes on and on and on with no end in sight until her heart gives out. Though if you ask Bella she's strong enough to make it work just a little longer, just a little while longer" he shook his head and Embry looked at Seth who shrugged as if he too didn't know how to make this better.
And there was no other way to make this better.
Not for the first time since she had crashed into their lives Embry wished he could shake Bella Swan until her teeth rattled. The woman just had no fucking clue. It was like Leah said but even he had to admit that Leah would find what was happening to Leah very hard to defend.
Maybe that was why she wouldn't come in.
And the smell.
Christ the smell.
"What do you want us to do Jake?" he asked softly and Jake looked up at him for a second and then the heartbroken sixteen year old was gone and the alpha was back.
"I need you to start patrolling with Leah, Seth can you show them what we have now in terms of a route?"
"Course"
"We take shifts or we were…the Docs right if you want to use their house may as well."
"They do have a pretty good shower, comes with a massage wand and everything"
That was Seth and they both turned to look at him and he shrugged utterly unrepentant.
Thank God Leah was not here Embry thought with a wry grin getting to his feet and folding his jeans into a neat little pile.
"You coming Jake?" he said softly and Jake nodded face falling back into lines of misery, shoulders bowed as if ready for the blow.
It was a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body Embry knew that, his mother had raised him to believe that it was gospel but he couldn't help but think as he transformed that maybe just this once Edward Cullen had the right of it and that Bella Swan had been dancing with the immortal for too long and that it had finally come to bite her in the ass.
Problem was it was never just her. They were all on this hell ride with her and as Embry began to ran he thought he had no idea where all of this was going and that…that was what frightened him the most.
And yeah, the Bella thing needed to be said both in this chapter and in many others again because she is all of those things but the decision to carry on her pregnancy was her choice and I respect that if nothing else. I do think she was unbelievably cruel to Jacob in Eclipse but Eclipse is a write off for me just because of how she is treated by Edward so I tend to skip that entire nightmare that is a book. But yeah that needed to be said, as did the Emily/Sue/Leah debacle because I just hated how that turned out. Seriously Emily, Maid of Honour? Ugh.
Next Chapter-As the Pack begin to defend the Cullen's Embry finally calls his mother braving the inside of the Cullen house to do so. It goes as well as he expected it to.
