Gon is in desperate need of a hospital.
Iason breached the surface, taking a lungful of air. His eyes searched the area, trying to find the closest part of the beach… or at least Sakura somewhere, waiting for them. He couldn't see his boyfriend anywhere, the boy panicking as his eyes continued to search the beach.
Shit… Shit… did we get too far from Sakura? Turning to face his partner, he realised his other boyfriend hadn't been breathing at all. No, no… NO! Uncaring if he'll be further from Sakura, he started swimming towards the beach.
He managed to land safely, dragging his partner's body onto the beach before he heard his name being called.
"IASON!"
"Over here!" The teen in question called his partner over, palms digging into the centre of Gon's chest. He started performing chest compressions, hoping that he can force Gon to start breathing, "Gon's not breathing…"
Sakura fell to his knees by his partners' side, mortified by the situation. Gon had done something absolutely, reckless… possibly ending his life via a stupid mistake. If he hadn't gone down there to attempt to gather the herb, his partner wouldn't have been in this situation.
"Sakura, please… try to apply the herbs to his wound. The toxin might have spread too much to the point it's seizing up his nervous system."
"But-"
"We're gonna hit him with everything. I will go to hell, and drag his ass out of there if I must… he's not going to die." The boy stated calmly, but internally, he was freaking out. Iason didn't know if any of this was going to work, but he was desperate to try anything.
He was desperate for anything that could, possibly, save Gon's life.
Sakura grabbed the salve he prepared, pushing chunks into the marks the sharks left behind on Gon's body. With each wound filled, he wished for Gon to start breathing.
It had been a minute, and Gon showed no signs of breathing.
Sakura was already sobbing, tears forming at the tips of Iason's eyes as he kept going. With each push failing to get his partner to breathe, his vision got blurrier.
Gon you can't die… you made a promise to me… you promised you were going to help me find clues to my parents… YOU PROMISED ME! He shoved one last time, the sound of a car coming towards them.
He couldn't save Gon… he promised Sakura that he'd keep trying no matter what.
Sakura hugged him; the two were crying uncontrollably at their loss. Neither one could get Gon to breathe. The slave didn't work… the toxin had spread too far.
The car came to a halt, a woman jumping off it before the driver could even park, running towards the boys "What's wrong?!"
"Gon, he saved us… protected us… but we couldn't save him." Iason muttered through a sob.
Looking over the boy's body, the woman pressed a finger against the boy's palm. There was no beat, an indication that he was still alive, "Shit…" taking a small satchel from her bag, she noticed something pressed into Gon's noticeable wounds, "Who did this…" The older female asked as she unzipped the satchel.
"I tried to make a salve using several of the plants along with the Luminous Bile, while Iason tried chest compressions… it didn't work."
"How long ago did he stop breathing…"
"Eight… maybe ten minutes ago."
Pulling a needle from the satchel, the female stuck it into a vial, "And the toxin…?"
"About twenty minutes ago, why?"
Flicking her finger against the tube, she made sure to clear out any of the bubbles.
"WHY?"
"Because the toxin forces the person bitten, to remain alive… indefinitely." Pulling he hand up, she was about to ram it into Gon's heart, only for one of the boys to stop her, "Unless you want him to die, I suggest you let go."
"You show up with zero introductions, telling us that Gon is still alive, and you're about to perform an Intracardiac injection on a kid who stopped breathing several minutes ago. Exactly, who are you?"
"Cassidy Klein, lead researcher on marine wildlife on this island." Wrenching her hand away, she glared at the boy, "I have a chance of saving him, and I get it… in your shoes, I'd to stop a random woman about to ram a needle into my partner's heart, but I'm the one chance you've got, kid."
Shoving the needle into Gon's heart, she injected the liquid, "Come on, Gon…" The woman pleaded, a finger now pressed into the boy's wrist, checking for a pulse. Fucken breath… take root, you stupid miracle.
"Wait, what do you mean by come on… you said you're our one chance." Sakura asked, fingers trembling as he spoke through constant sobs.
"I tried this on the body in the laboratory, he breathed for a second before dying on the table… the serious wounds he suffered, killed him. But Gon… Gon is still in a reasonable condition. It's a theory, a hail fucken Hail Mary at this point… but it's gotta work."
Come on… Gon, fucken BREATH! The researcher held onto her faith in her scientific discovery. Come on… work damn it! She recalled how long it took for the last body to recover. Since it was heavily infected, it took about five minutes before there was any kind of reaction.
But Gon hadn't been infected for that long…
Thinking she was about to give up, to lose faith in her ability to research and work out the best method to a perfect formula, Gon drew in a loud breath gasping for a couple of seconds.
"He's…" Sakura broke out into a smile. Their partner had pulled through, and the medication admittedly worked. However, right after drawing in a breath, their partner had fallen silent. Gon remained unmoving… unwilling to open his eyes.
Gon was supposed to be okay, but he still wasn't, "No-No-NO!" Sakura fretted, gripping his partner's wetsuit tightly within his grasp, "You're supposed to be okay!"
Cassidy pulled the boy's hands away, "It's okay…" She shifted her attention to the other, the one whose attention was still on her. She could tell he was still worried, but he was angry about the whole situation.
Whether it was due to his lack of ability to assist or the fact he had to depend on someone he had barely met, he was frustrated with how the whole situation had turned out "He's breathing… he has a pulse. He'll be fine."
"What exactly happens now? He clearly, isn't fine…" Iason frowned once he realised Cassidy refused to remove her fingers from Gon's wrists. She was still making sure their partner was still breathing.
"We'll need to bring him to my lab to recover and be under constant watch. As I said, the last patient I tried it on, died. So how Gon reacts to recovery is pretty much unknown. My question is… how did you know I was administering an Intracardiac injection?"
"My older brother is studying to be a doctor. He rambles a lot… and I tend to listen."
"You're a smart boy…"
Several other cars came speeding along the beach, all the same type as the one Cassidy and the man came in on. There were no ambulances or a type of car to transport anyone that was hurt, stopping in their vicinity… at least what he could spot from a glance "It still doesn't explain our situation."
"The same could be said for you two…" A man hopped out of one of the cars, stopping near the two boys "Where's Steffelor?"
"Dead…" Iason admitted flatly, "He died pushing us out of the way of the shark's attack."
"Fuck…" Crossing his arms, Geoffrey stood his ground. How the hell are they going to deal with the situation? One was seriously wounded, and the other is dead. Even if they do get assistance, nobody would want to take on this case, "What about the shark?"
"I… don't know. Gon managed to hit it with a Nen-filled punch. It stopped moving… but I wasn't in a position where I was going to check if it was still alive. Pulling Gon out was my main priority."
"Fuck…" He turned to the rest of the guards, "I want multiple divers and boats out scanning this whole side. I want this thing found. We need to be confirmed whether it's dead or alive. If it's alive, we pull out… I want nobody else sacrificing their lives. If it's dead, I want it removed…"
"Yes, sir!" multiple guards confirmed.
"I can tell you its last location…"
"Huh?" The man stood there, surprised by the situation. The boy didn't know if it was alive or dead… but he managed to remember the last location he saw the creature.
Iason pointed a finger out to the ocean, gesturing in a single line "It's about one hundred and fifty meters deep, around three-hundred and twenty-two meters out if you go in that direction."
"You, stay…" The man gestured to Iason, "I want you to show us exactly where-"
Cassidy stopped her father, "NO! He's going to stay. We're going to need to get these three boys in a Hyperbaric Chamber. Going through that depth in a short time would've put their body at severe risk."
"No… it's fine." The boy was quick to stop the woman, "Leaving the shark out there is a serious hazard. Sakura, you go with Gon, both of you should be recovering."
"No, Gon should be fine if we leave him with Cassidy. I should be-"
"I know you want to come with me…" The boy held his partner's hands, "but I won't put myself at potential risk. Isn't that right, Mr leader?"
"The name's Geoffrey Klein and you'd be right. I won't put you in serious, danger. I just need the exact location, then we'll let the professionals take over. Also… about that shockwave…"
"That would be Gon."
Geoffrey whistled, "For a kid who couldn't use Nen until recently, that was a massive amount of Nen which must have been dispersed for kilometres. The fact it shook the island was a cause for concern… while there was no serious damage, luckily, the fact I felt it concerned me… Exactly, what did he do?" He knelt next to the boy, "Because if it ain't dead from the initial impact… it must be seriously wounded by now."
"He focused his remaining aura into his fist, before attacking the creature with a head-on collision. It was reckless… dangerous, but even after Gon was knocked out from the dispersion of his remaining aura, the fact is the creature was harmed in the act… the problem like I said, given how many times Gon hit the creature before that last desperate move… it remained unaffected. So I don't know if it's dead or alive…"
Geoffrey stood up, humming over the knowledge. It was risky going down there without confirming the creature's death. But the fact is if it is dead, they needed to remove the body and contain it so they can ship it off the main island to be studied at least.
A toxin that is dangerous needs a permanent cure… Also, the body can not continue to remain on the resort, given that the bodies affected by the infliction of the toxin tend to leave an undesirable smell behind.
"Okay… there are some serious risks, but I need confirmation."
The man pulled a radio to his mouth, "George, what's your ETA?"
"About two minutes…"
"Good. Everyone else, gear up we're going down there."
"Wait…" Iason stopped the man, "If you hear a roar down there, get everyone out of there. It lets off this screech if it's in the area. Gauging how far it is, is difficult. But if there's a scream, it's alive… and it's on the prowl."
"Thank you for the knowledge."
Sakura grabbed Iason, pulling him into a hug "Don't make any reckless moves like our idiot partner…"
"I won't…" The boy returned the hug, stroking his partner's hair, "When I'm back, I'll try to help Gon's recovery… so try to explain the situation to Cassidy."
"I will… I'll watch him too."
"No…" Iason gestured to his partner's hand, "You're gonna have Cassidy look at your palm. While it isn't deep… I'm sure you're already infected."
Cassidy ran up to Sakrua, grabbing his hand.
Twisting the palm so it faced her, she looked over the wound. There was already yellow pus seeping through the fabric. The boy was already infected, but given that it was a small wound and they hadn't seized up, means they were still in the early phase of the toxic infection, "You should've told me sooner."
As the boat arrived, a couple of the divers got onto the boat.
Running back to her kit, the woman grabbed another needle, a vial and a piece of cotton. She returned to the boy, prepping the location.
At this moment Geoffrey pulled Iason away, leading the boy to the boat. He looked at Sakura one last time, catching Danny loading Gon onto the car. Now that he wasn't worried about his partner as much, he noticed the car was one of the main island carts designed for transportation around the island.
It wouldn't be suitable for someone unconscious, but Iason didn't believe they had proper ambulances that could traverse the beach, at least not the kind that could be called on a dime. But given that the boy was knocked out… he was sure his partner wouldn't mind the non-luxury transportation, let alone proper transportation.
"You'll be fine, Sakura…" Iason muttered comfortably under his breath, turning away to face the boat, "Gon will be fine too." The boat left, transporting them across the water to the location where the shark could be found.
"~"
As the boat left, Sakura watched the boat leave with a yearning, wishing his partner could've stayed behind. Gon needed him as much as he did, but he could understand that his partner knew the last location of the shark, which would be helpful to Geoffrey and his crew.
It'll limit the amount of time wasted trying to find the creature.
Cassidy looked at the boy with concern, "You know my father wouldn't put your partner in jeopardy's way. He's a good man… Iason will be safe "She felt around for a vein, trying to find a spot on the young boy that would be good.
"I know… but he has… a way to help Gon recover?"
"Nen? No need to skirt around the topic… I'm aware of its potential."
"I wasn't too sure… it should be considered hush, hush… at least that's what my partner tells me."
"He's right… in the wrong hands it can be dangerous." Finding a juicy vein, she pressed the needle in, the young boy wincing, "But you're lucky…" Pushing the liquid into the boy's body she continued, "After what I've witnessed, not in person… luckily, I can tell both of your partners care enough about you to involve themselves in dangerous situations." Removing the needle, she pressed the cotton to the spot "Keep your thumb on this while I get a band-aid for you."
"I know…" The boy looked once more at his partner who was out cold, still unmoving "I just wished nobody got hurt."
Cassidy put the band-aid on the boy, "Now let me know if you start to feel a numbing in your body. Given the injection and the location I put it, I was hoping it didn't spread further along your body. You should be fine, but I still need to be cautious."
"Right…"
"Danny, take us back to the lab, I'll get Gon and Sakura into a Hyperbaric Chamber. Given how quickly they rose from a deep depth, I will rather be cautious than unconcerned." With a nod, the security guard started the car, driving off. Sakura held onto Gon, making sure his partner didn't fall off the cart…
Still worried about his partner Iason. Please be okay…
"~"
Divers found the shark, the creature unmoving. They set the gear up, wrapping the creature up tightly. Cranes were set up, ready to pull the body out from the depths of the underwater forest.
"Alright, pull it up…" A diver radioed back to the boat, unaware of the creature's limb twitching slightly.
"Bring it up!" Geoffrey called out, the cranes moving to pull the creature out.
Kevin prepped a bag just in case, given the body smelt horrible after being dragged out of the water, he could only imagine what the creature that produced the stuff smelt like.
"You'll be fine…" Geoffrey remarked, pinching his nose in preparation for the smell.
"Try saying that, without pinching your nose." The two chuckled, the whirling of the machine continuing in the background.
"What exactly will you do with the discovery?"
"Well… considering that Gon was the one who saw it and lived…"
Iason frowned, "Sakura and I also saw it… and lived."
"I'm talking about the first sight, Steffelor is gone… so he frankly can't, make a verbal claim, but I'll make damn sure he's involved in its discovery notes. That being said, Gon will get to name it… we'll ship it off to a better-prepared laboratory that can handle the… putrid smell. They'll get to work on discovering not only the type of toxin but a more isolated vaccination that doesn't involve plants found on this island."
The man shifted his attention back to the cranes, "While I'm sure my daughter would love to be involved in the discovery… However, I think it's safe to say, that the smell isn't something she wants to endure…"
"What if she doesn't care about the smell… that she wants to be involved in the discovery of a vaccination?"
"Then she's free to go, I will not force her to stay here because I demand so. She's an adult… and she's free to do whatever, provided she does complete her assigned tasks."
"Which are…?"
"The lead nurse. While the Island is mostly safe, there are still the odd trip and fall scenarios, accidental cuts on a rock and whatnot. This creature is probably the most difficult situation not only she, but we've had to deal with." The water began to part, the man looking down as the creature was dragged out of the water, "speaking of which…"
Metal creaked as the water shifted, the man now looking worried. He pulled out the radio, "What's going on?"
"THE CREATURE IS STILL ALIVE!"
The shark wiggled about, Kevin hurling over the side of the boat from the smell. Its putrid scent even made Iason's stomach churn. It was disgusting, but that was the last of his concerns, given that it was still moving.
"GET OUT OF THE WATER!" As he made the demand, the creature's eyes fluttered about, looking at every individual on the boat. It couldn't move as much as it was more of a sea creature, unable to weave through the air.
Plus the binding made it impossible for it to wiggle around that much.
But the eyes stopped moving, falling straight on Iason. Even though it clearly couldn't see him, it may have recognised his shape, "Uh… we have a problem."
Geoffrey took a step forward, the creature's eyes now snapping towards him. It tried to shift its body, to face him but all it could do is keep its eyes remained on the man.
Geoffrey smirked, "So the little beast can only move underwater…"
"I wouldn't taunt it…" Kevin remarked, vomiting once again over the side of the boat.
"I'm not taunting… merely observing a fact." Shifting his hand to his face, he thought about the situation. There's no way this creature can continue to remain alive. Although, killing it while it's above water is not a great option.
Nor is transporting it while it's alive an equally advisable option.
Gon's attack managed to knock it out at least for thirty minutes, give or take… and that attack would've been felt for kilometres. Maybe a direct impact could stun it, although he highly doubts he could strike a creature without getting hurt… or making it vomit up its last contents… in this case, Steffelor.
They only have a few hours before residents will start to wake up, so he needs to make a decision.
Iason stood up, "What are we going to do… we have it captured, but alive. Isn't that risky…"
"It is, but knocking it out again is even riskier. I could probably kill it… the only problem is given its putrid excretion, that may be a risky move."
The shark started to move around again. It was seriously risky to keep it awake… "I'm gonna need to knock it out before it starts to move around recklessly. I'll need to kill it once we get back on land."
Upon hearing his words, the creature shifted, roaring, loudly from its situation.
Geoffrey brought his fist back, aura flowing into his palm "Fuck it…" swinging his palm up, he smack the creature's stomach, aura flowing from the fingertips straight into the monster's body.
It stopped moving, "Alright let's get this-"
The creature shifted once more, letting off another roar that could've been heard from a distance. The man's eyes widened in shock. The creature was far sturdier than he initially thought.
"Take it fucken out!" Iason swore loudly, stumbling as the constant shifting of the boat made it harder to remain still.
The metal crane started to shift, bending and warping under the weight of the creature's ministration.
"Fuck it…" A pulse of aura reverberated throughout the man's arm as he got his ability ready, "Everyone gets down, now!"
Iason could see it, the same kind of flow around the manager's arm, it was similar to how Gon did it… but the way the man was redirecting his aura was much different. It was refined and focused on a single body part.
"One-palm strike…" He swung his arm up, hitting the creature directly in the stomach. All the aura which had been focused into his arm shot up like a buckshot, flowing into different parts of the body "Meteor Impact."
The creature froze, vomiting up a body in the process as its eyes dulled. The sling shook, metal warping from the impact of a single strike. The moment its body stopped moving, all eyes fell onto the thing the creature vomited up.
A half-digested body… caked in toxin.
One thing was certain, even if there was no indication, the body must belong to Steffelor.
Kevin hurled once more, the stench too strong for his body to handle.
A\N: Juicy vein is a joke I've experienced multiple times. As someone who's dating a nurse… all his nurse friends who met me… all do the same thing. Twist my arm around once they notice my veins and say that's a juicy vein…
