Muv Luv Total Eclipse: The Iron Curtain (Preview 3)

The sound of a tape being inserted into a VCR could be heard before the screen started to flicker. Before long, the face, the somewhat haunting black and white image of the late US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. He started to read his speech, occasionally looking down before returning his eyes to the camera.

"My fellow Americans:

Three days from now, after half a century in the service of our country, I shall lay down the responsibilities of office as, in traditional and solemn ceremony, the authority of the Presidency is vested in my successor.

This evening I come to you with a message of leave-taking and farewell, and to share a few final thoughts with you, my countrymen."

The screen was then seen glitching. The speech then continued.

"A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction.

Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peacetime, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea.

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

The screen then glitched once more, showing images of BETA ravaging cities across the world before then returning to Eisenhower's speech.

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence - economic, political, even spiritual - is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society."

-2003-

The scene then cuts to a roundtable of politicians from around the world discussing the scenario that will unfold in the coming days, following the vanquishing of the BETA during the Yukon Base incident that occured two years prior and the coverup in the aftermath.

"The Yukon Base incident cost the president much politically in the aftermath.. to the point that he had to resign in shame. We have no use for those who don't follow their orders.." one of them said, a smirk spreading across his face as smoke enveloped the room from his cigar.

"Whose orders?" one of them asked, confused by the older politician's statement. The gentleman in question simply grinned as he let out a puff of smoke from his cigar, the rancid smell filling the air in the room.

The scene then cuts to a series of Tactical Surface Fighters invading a country neighbouring the USSR. Buildings were destroyed and civillians were killed in the chaos. Scenes of shelters taking in refugees from this country from across the United States were seen. Pundits and talking heads on cable news networks across the country were seen shaming people who did not take in enough of them, regardless of their social standing or their own living situations.

"So the Soviets invaded Finland... and they're looking to expand that invasion into Sweden and Norway.." Lucy said grimly, as she looked on at the cable news on the television above him and the rest of his squad.

"The United States government will try to capitalize on this, so that shambling new president can cling onto power.. tch, typical politicians.." Camila tisked, clearly rattled by the Soviets' plans to invade her home country.

"The BETA might be gone for now, but.. we still have our oldest enemy; our own politicians. Tsk, we're just fockin' target practice to them!" Charles growled, then started thinking about his home country of Britain.

"Communism's fockin' ruining everything.. it's already spreading in Britain, it's here in yankland too!" Charles blurted, his frustration clear.

"It's ruined China too.. A blind revolutionary thought he could declare war on its' culture, customs and traditions. He also sought to change the very fabric of my country.. and he ended up killing millions." Lucy recalled, thinking about how her home country of China was influenced by The Soviet Union. Hearing all of this, Maverick in the first person perspective, looked down to the floor.

The scene then cuts to flashes of Tactical Surface Fighters taking on BETAs within the United States borders.

"I thought they were gone!" Lucy exclaimed in surprise.

-A War Of Survival And Of Loyalty-

"Fockin' hell! The Soviets were keepin' those BETA fockers all this time!" Charles yelled out before punching the wall.

"Something tells me that this attack wasn't the Soviets.." Camilla whispered to herself, looking down sorrowfully as she gripped her arm.

"You mean it might be the United States?.. But why would they attack their own people?.." Lucy wondered, asking about Camilla's assertion.

-A Coverup-

"This entire war is a lie!" yelled a Japanese woman's voice as she hit the wall. This outburst was from one Captain Yui Takamura of former Imperial Japan, who lost its' status in the two years following the Yukon Base Incident.

The scene then cuts to Alaska Governer Yuuya Bridges as he slams his hand down on his office desk.

"They're gonna use Cryska and Inia to start World War 3?!"

The perspective then shifts to Lucy as her TSF is heavily damaged from Soviet artillery fire. She is then seen stopping as she holds her side, which trickles with blood. The screen then cuts to black as the following could be heard;

"Who will destroy the world first?.. The BETA.. or us?.."
